• how do you authenticate a user between two services, if they are both using a common third-party oauth service?

  I'm currently experimenting with oauth logins on a website, using google oauth2. While I set that up without too many problems, I saw that there isn't some kind of permanent token, which only google and the authorized service know about a user. Also, from what I gathered, if I were to create a companion app on android, the preferred way is to go with AccountManager, which seems to handle giving oauth2 access tokens for google accounts. But if I authenticate myself from the anroid app using a google account, how do I now link that user to the same one in the web app? One way I think this can be done if the user also logs into the web app as well, so that the server receives a fresh access token, and the android and web one are compared. But that seems like a huge hassle, and I haven't seen many other apps do that. Another is to use a refresh token on the server, but that would require extra permissions which might put off any potential visitors. So what is the general workflow for achieving this? Or am I thinking the wrong way?

  For each ad, I allow users to choose up to 5 tags. Right now, in my database, I have it like... Posting_id TagID 5 1 5 2 5 3 6 5 6 1 But i was thinking if I should make it like... Posting_id TagID 5 1 2 3 6 5 1 Then first option is much easier to insert and retrieve data. But if I have 100 posts with 3 tags each, that's 300 rows...so ALOT more rows The second option requires using explode() impode(), etc but it is much cleaner. Which option should I do and why? thanks!

  I want to ?reduce? the CPU usage/ROM usage/RAM usage - generally?, all system resources that my app uses - who doesn't? :) For this reason I want to split the preferences window from the rest of the application, and let the preferences window to run as ?independent? program. The preferences program ?should? write to a Property file(not a problem at all) and to send a "update signal" to the main program - which means it should call the update method (that i wrote) that found in the Main class. How can I call the update method in the Main program from the preferences program? To put it another way, is a way to build preferences window that take system resources just when the window appears? Is this approach - of separating programs and let them talk to each other (somehow) - the right approach for speeding up my programs?

  I have a web form that has 2 radio buttons, depending on which one is clicked it displays a hidden element This works fine in all browsers except for IE6, which, after I click on the radio button, I have to click again (anywhere on the window) and then the element is displayed...has anyone had behavior like this before? I tried to not use jQuery and do straight getElementById() but I get the same behavior...   How do I model having multiple Addresses for a Company and assign a single Address to a Contact? Contacts belong_to a Company. A Company has_many Contacts. A Company also has_many Addresses. • What do I do about a Java program that spawned two instaces of itself?

  I have a java JAR file that is triggered by a SQL server job. It's been running successfully for months. The process pulls in a structured flat file to a staging database then pushes that data into an XML file. However yesterday the process was triggered twice at the same time. I can tell from a log file that gets created, it looks like the process ran twice simultaneously. This caused a lot of issues and the XML file that it kicked out was malformed and contained duplicate nodes etc. My question is, is this a known issue with Java JVM's spawning multiple instances of itself? Or should I be looking at sql server as the culprit? I'm looking into 'socket locking' or file locking to prevent multiple instances in the future. This is the first instance of this issue that I've ever heard of. More info: The job is scheduled to run every minute. The job triggers a .bat file that contains the java.exe - jar filename.jar The java program runs, scans a directory for a file and then executes a loop to process if the file if it finds one. After it processes the file it runs another loop that kicks out XML messages. I can provide code samples if that would help. Thank you, Kevin

  Question: Is there a mechanism in the .NET Framework to hide one custom Type from another without using separate projects/assemblies? I'm using C# with ASP.NET in a Website project. Note: I'm not talking about access modifiers to hide members of a Type from another type - I mean to hide the Type itself. Background: I'm working in an ASP.NET Website project and the team has decided not to use separate project assemblies for different software layers. Therefore I'm looking for a way to have, for example, a DataAccess/ folder of which I disallow its classes to access other Types in the same ASP.NET Website project. In other words I want to fake the layers and have some kind of security mechanism around each layer to prevent it from accessing another. Obviously there's not a way to enforce this restriction using language-specific OO keywords so I am looking for something else, for example: maybe a permission framework or code access mechanism, maybe something that uses meta data like Attributes. Even something that restricts one namespace from accessing another. I'm unsure the final form it might take. If this were C++ I'd likely be using friend to make as solution, which doesn't translate to C# internal in this case although they're often compared. I don't really care whether the solution actually hides Types from each other or just makes them inaccessible; however I don't want to lock down one Type from all others, another reason access modifiers are not a solution. A runtime or design time answer will suffice. Looking for something easy to implement otherwise it's not worth the effort ...

I can do: (select #(and (>= % x) (< % y)) xs) But this is inefficient - O(n) when it could be O(log n), I expect the number of elements returned to be small. Using take-while and drop-while would let me exit once I've reached y, but I still can't jump to x efficiently.   Me again. I have a users table and a users_banlist table. On my registration form i want to check all in one query whether the username someone entered on form exists in the users table and see if it also exists on the users_banlist table. I can do them on there own in individual queries but would rather do it all in one. However, some of the included data to be inserted in the html is in another encoding.   Hi! I'm working on a little fitness tracker in order to teach myself Django. I want to graph my weight over time, so I've decided to use the Python Google Charts Wrapper. Google charts require that you convert your date into a x coordinate. To do this I want to take the number of days in my dataset by subtracting the first weigh-in from the last weigh-in and then using that to figure out the x coords (for example, I could 100 by the result and increment the x coord by the resulting number for each y coord.) Anyway, I need to figure out how to subtract Django datetime objects from one another and so far, I am striking out on both google and here at the stack. I know PHP, but have never gotten a handle on OO programming, so please excuse my ignorance.   I am currently making a temporary download page for website visitor. The page includes a form, after the visitor fills the form up, the site will take them to the pdf download page. In the download page, there are some pdf files download links (I am just using a tag.). However, i wanna make a onclick event to those links, once they have been clicked, the page will refresh automatically or redirect to other pages. <a href="/file.pdf" onClick="window.location.reload()">The File</a> I have tried the jquery way as well. <a href="/file.pdf" id="FileDownload">The File</a> <script> $("#FileDownload").click(function(){ location.reload(); }); </script> But all the them are not working.   I have a rails app that is working fine except for one thing. When I request something that doesn't exist (i.e. /not_a_controller_or_file.txt) and rails throws a "No Route matches..." exception, the response is this (blank line intentional): HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Thu, 02 Oct 2008 10:28:02 GMT Content-Type: text/html Content-Length: 122 Vary: Accept-Encoding Keep-Alive: timeout=15, max=100 Connection: Keep-Alive Status: 500 Internal Server Error Content-Type: text/html <html><body><h1>500 Internal Server Error</h1></body></html> I have the ExceptionLogger plugin in /vendor, though that doesn't seem to be the problem. I haven't added any error handling beyond the custom 500.html in public (though the response doesn't contain that HTML) and I have no idea where this bit of html is coming from. So Something, somewhere is adding that HTTP/1.1 200 status code too early, or the Status: 500 too late. I suspect it's Apache because I get the appropriate HTTP/1.1 500 header (at the top) when I use Webrick. My production stack is as follows: Apache 2 Mongrel (5 instances) RubyOnRails 2.1.1 (happens in both 1.2 and 2.1.1) I forgot to mention, the error is caused by a "no route matches..." exception

Does anyone know if the following... size_t div(size_t value) { const size_t x = 64; return value / x; } ...is optimized into? size_t div(size_t value) { return value >> 6; } Do compilers do this? (My interest lies in GCC). Are there situations where it does and others where it doesn't? I would really like to know, because every time I write a division that could be optimized like this I spend some mental energy wondering about whether precious nothings of a second is wasted doing a division where a shift would suffice.
