Hello. My C++ turn-based game server (which uses database) does stand against current average amount of clients (players), so I want to expand it to multiple (more then one) amount of computers and databases where all clients still will remain within single game world (servers will must communicate with each other and use multiple databases).
Is there some tutorials/books/common standards which explain how to do it in a best way?
<b>OSOR.EU:</b> "Public administrations that consider using open source software may need advise on how and why public agencies can acquire such software."

<b>Datamation:</b> ""All video codecs are covered by patents," Jobs said in the e-mail, according to Roy. "A patent pool is being assembled to go after Theora and other 'open source' codecs now"
We can all recognise good-quality database code: It doesn't break with every change in the server's configuration, or on upgrade. It isn't affected by concurrent usage, or high workload. In an extract from his forthcoming book, Alex explains just how to go about producing resilient TSQL code that works, and carries on working.
In the second part of Phil's series of articles on finding stuff (such as objects, scripts, entities, metadata) in SQL Server, he offers some scripts that should be handy for the developer faced with tracking down problem areas and potential weaknesses in a database.
Ignore your archive logging function and your Oracle database will soon become crippled and unusable. Learn how to pay attention, starting with ensuring that Automatic archival is Enabled, how to switch into archive log mode if it's not enabled and how to locate where redo logs are archived.

If you run a Windows shop, you may think Apache, FreeRADIUS and FreeNAS are off limits. Think again. With a few simple choices, any of these popular open source servers can be deployed in a snap.
Thanks to everybody who did attend at my DOAG Conference session in Nürnberg this year "Seven Flavor of Database Upgrades" (or in German: "7 Wege zum Datenbank-Upgrade - Geschichten, die das Leben schrieb"). And thanks for your patience staying with me in overtime as well
In case you'd like to download the slides I've presented at the session please download them via this link or from the download section to your right.
Today's server hardware is so powerful that quite often we find stand-a-lone SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing Machine) servers in different clustered and non-clustered configurations. Learn how to expand this type of system with additional hardware and DB2 UDB EEE database partitions.
Many Oracle database administrators would not only like to report on (ORA-) errors but also manage the alert log itself--saving and/or trimming the alert log, aka alert log rotation. Oracle's new ADR with command interface can easily be used to help rotate Oracle's alert log.
I'm on an AMD graphics card. When I use the open source xserver-xorg-video-radeon driver, Gnome shell works fine but my screen resolution can't be set higher than 1024x768.
However, when I'm on the closed source fglrx drivers, the screen resolution works fine, but gnome shell doesn't (it goes to gnome classic for some reason).
Does anyone know how I can either get gnome shell to work with fglrx, or how I can set my screen resolution with xserver-xorg-video-radeon?
<b>Linux Beacon:</b> "Although OpenOffice.org Writer and AbiWord top the list of open source software for those who write for work or fun, they are not the be-all-and-end-all of writing tools. In fact, there are quite a few other nifty applications that can help you to collect ideas, manage notes, edit documents, and even improve your writing."

A DBA's huge workload can start to threaten best practices for data backup and recovery, but ingenuity, and an eye for a good tactic, can usually find a way. For Tom, the revelation about a solution came from eating crabs. Statistical sampling can be brought to bear to minimize the risk of failure of an emergency database restore.
<b>Netstat -vat:</b> "The first public release of the BIND 10 open source DNS server is now out. But don't rush to update your servers just yet -- it's still years away from being ready for production use"
