  • Getting a Target to run BEFORE anything else runs when building from Visual Studio

    Hi, I'm trying to get a one-time costly target to run only when building a certain top-level project (that has many dependencies). I have no problem on getting this working from plain msbuild / command line build. I do this with setting and InitialTargets on the project, or alternatively with < BeforeBuild /. The tricky part is with Visual Studio. When I build the same project from VS. VS runs the dependencies before even invoking my .csproj, so my target (which affects how the other projects are built) doesn't get to run until they have already been built. Is there someway to force VS to run a target before invoking the dependencies? I'm currently working around this, by running the same costly target from my most low-level project (the one that get's always built...) by using: Condition=" $(BuildingInsideVisualStudio) " Any ideas on how to get this done "properly"? Again, I'm looking for a solution that will work FROM VS.

  • How to change out-of-focus text selection color in Xcode?

    Okay, I'll bite. I've got really pleasant code/window colors set up in Xcode. Ordinarily, my selection color is very visible. When I am doing a project search and iterating through the results, however, the results list stays in focus and the found text remains out of focus, using a different background color. This color is extremely hard to detect, especially when the text is embedded in a larger code block and the view is shifting around as it scrolls to the results. Here's an example: Left side is in focus (just normal selection), right side is out of focus (during project find) Often it takes a few seconds to find where the heck the selected text is. Unless I'm just missing it, Xcode seems to offer no way to change this particular selection color. Interestingly, it also doesn't seem to follow the selection color from the Appearance panel. Does anyone know a way to change this color or force it to be more visible, short of changing my entire color scheme around?

  • Make a steady automata in javascript

    I'm working on a javascript game and I've got an automata system controlling game time and sprite animation as well as giving a hand to the path finding system for timing and such. My problem is on slow browsers the javascript loop I'm using for counting the time is not very accurate. It tends to jump around a lot. I there a way to force the loop to run consistantly at 30 fps? The automata can drop frames if it needs to catch up so if the solution requires droping frames thats ok.

  • Java Heap Overflow, Forcing Garbage Collection

    I've create a trie tree with an array of children. When deleting a word, I set the children null, which I would assume deletes the node(delete is a relative term). I know that null doesn't delete the child, just sets it to null, which when using a large amount of words it causes to overflow the heap. Running a top on linux, I can see my memory usage spike to 1gb pretty quickly, but if I force garbage collection after the delete (Runtime.gc()) the memory usage goes to 50mb and never above that. From what I'm told, java by default runs garbage collection before a heap overflow happens, but I can't see to make that happen.

  • Xcode: code loses syntax coloring

    I find that in various situations Objective-C code in Xcode 3.1 (Leopard) can fail to get appropriate syntax coloring after typing or lose coloring that it had. This isn't just a "refresh" issue with new custom symbols -- but affects Cocoa framework symbols as well. Sometimes CMD-a to select all text on the code page will make the coloring (re)appear, sometimes double-clicking on a line to select it will work, sometimes I have to add/delete a space in a symbol to get that symbol to (re)color. Rebuilding, or closing/reopening the project may or may not work. Is this a known issue with Xcode? For something so annoying to me, I'm not finding the plentiful discussions of it on SO and elsewhere I'd expect. And is there any command to force global syntax recoloring?

  • Way to get VS 2008 to stop forcing indentation on namespaces?

    I've never really been a big fan of the way most editors handle namespaces. They always force you to add an extra pointless level of indentation. For instance, I have a lot of code in a page that I would much rather prefer formatted as namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } and not something like namespace mycode{ class myclass{ void function(){ foo(); } void foo(){ bar(); } void bar(){ //code.. } } } Honestly, I don't really even like the class thing being indented most of the time because I usually only have 1 class per file. And it doesn't look as bad here, but when you get a ton of code and lot of scopes, you can easily have indentation that forces you off the screen, and plus here I just used 2-space tabs and not 4-space as is used by us. Anyway, is there some way to get Visual Studio to stop trying to indent namespaces for me like that?

    I can't touch the html theme but I have access to the css files. <div class="photos"> <img src="a.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="b.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> <img src="c.jpg" alt="" align="left" /> //align makes the images wrap </div> Unfortunately I can't remove align="left" from the images otherwise this CSS snippet would have done the job .photos{ white-space: nowrap; } .photos img{ display: inline; vertical-align: top; } Any ideas? Is it even possible to make these images line-up horizontally without using the force of a table and only with CSS? Many Thank in advance!

    Am rather new to this world of htaccess redirects.Am trying to force all redirects in my Zend MVC to my https but I get a requested URL not found error on requests that dont go though the index controller Example https://www.example.com/auth/register gives a requested URL /auth/register not found error. However if I remove the https redirect rule it works fine over http. If I adjust the URL to https://www.example.com/index.php/auth/register it works fine. The URL https://www.example.com/index/faq works just fine since it goes through the index controller.   • Can a CWinApp be placed in a DLL?

    I'm updating some legacy apps to Visual Studio 10 and am in linker hell. All of these DLLs derive classes from CWinApp and use AfxGetApp() to get access to the object. When I link the DLLs I get unresolved externals that look like global static objects that would get pulled in by a normal app's main(): Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CException::classCException" (?classCException@CException@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static struct CRuntimeClass const CFrameWnd::classCFrameWnd" (?classCFrameWnd@CFrameWnd@@2UCRuntimeClass@@B) Shell.lib(SHELL.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol "public: static class CRect const CFrameWnd::rectDefault" (?rectDefault@CFrameWnd@@2VCRect@@B) My current combination of ignore default libraries and additional libraries (the method you can easily google to find the answer to linker hell) is: msvcprtd.lib,mfc100d.lib,mfcs100d.lib,libcmtd.lib When I add nafxcwd.lib (the mfc library), these three external symbols resolve but I end up with a bunch of other duplicate symbols (requiring the use of /FORCE:MULTIPLE) and in end __argc and __argv become unresolved. So the basic question is: Can you link a DLL containing a CWinApp in VS10? How do you setup the linker to do it?

    According to various documents and discussions this used to be possible: you needed a block something like this in your script: try tell me to «event ascrgdut» end try tell me to doTheFunkyNewThing The event corresponds to hidden event with the undocumented C constant kUpdateAEUT (see here for the declaration of the constant) which should force the scripting additions to be reloaded. I've written a scripting addition and played around with this method of getting it to load but I have had no luck at all. I can only make it load by starting my script after the extension has been installed. Does anyone know if there is a way to make this work? Has this functionality been disabled in more recent OS X releases? I'm using OS X 10.6.2 FWIW.

  • Any Way to Further Customize Embedded Google Calendar?

    I'd like to embed a few Google Calendars for my client's web site. The "Google Embeddable Calendar Helper" provides very few customization options. Updating the hex code for the background color in the generated source only works if you pick one of the ~70 standard Google Calendar bg colors. (I can tweak the "border" selector because at least it's in an actual statement.) A "view-source" on the rendered page shows a CSS file loaded from the iframe, but I obviously can't change anything in there. And I assume I can't force an override of selectors with my own CSS file because I have no way of "injecting" it into the iframe. Does anyone know of a (non-API) way of tweaking the colors, fonts, and other CSS thingies in an embedded Google Calendar? Thanks in advance...

    Hi, I have been googling to figure out how I can customize the Date format when I use jax-rs on apache CXF. I looked at the codes, and it seems that it only support primitives, enum and a special hack that assume the type associated with @ForumParam has a constructor with a single string parameter. This force me to use String instead of Date if I want to use ForumParam. it is kind of ugly. But, if the same WCF service reference is added in an ASP.Net project, is generating code with SOAP Serialization attribtues. Can anybody let me know what could be the cause for it, and how can I force reference to generate SOAP Serialization?     Hi guys, I just lost 5 hours looking for a answer which i haven't been able to find :p First, I'd like to force a trusted application (i need to access the file system) to display into the browser. Based on what i found on google a trusted application must be installed and launched as a desktop application (also called out-of-browser application). So, i want to have an installed application on the client side but meanwhile, the user must also be able to start this same application into a browser window when he goes on my web site. Is this possible ? Second, I'd like to give to the user the possibility to start the application from the browser. To be clear be the application is installed on the client computer but i want a button on my web site which starts the desktop application. How can i do that ? Thanks

  • WCF reuse types in referenced assemblies does not reuse the ServiceContract Interface

    I have three seperate projects: -MyUserControl (Needs a reference to a service implementing IMyService) -MyService (Implements IMyService) -MySharedInterfaces (IMyUserControl and IMyService) -MyWebApp The user control needs to be dynamically loaded at runtime. This implements IMyUserControl and has a property of type IMyService which will be set at runtime. The trouble is even with the option to reuse types the WebApp isn't reusing the IMyServiceType, it always generates it again from the Service Reference. This wouldn't be an issue if I could cast it to MySharedInterfaces.IMyService (which I can't understand, since it should be exactly the same). The user control is expecting something of type IMyService, is there anyway to either cast the WebServiceReference.IMyService back to MySharedInterface.IMyServiceReference or force the WebServiceReference to reuse the MySharedInterface.IMyServiceReference? I'm a complete novice with programming and I'm trying to get started with this Ruby on Rails tutorial (http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book?version=3.2) I have been trying figure this out for about 7 hours now and since I don't have any hair left to pull out I'm turning to these hallowed pages. I have searched for solutions here again and again. System: Mac OS X 10.7.5 Leopard, Xcode 4.5.2 I installed homebrew and have updated it multiple times I used homebrew to install rvm and have updated it multiple times I installed git The standard ruby on the system (checking with $ ruby -v) is 1.8.7 My problem is that every time I try to use rvm to install a new version of Ruby ($ rvm install 1.9.3) I get the following error: Ruby (and needed base gems) for your selection will be installed shortly.   • Perl unit test - start a tcp server & continue

    I am trying to write a unit test for a client server application. To test the client, in my unit test, I want to first start my tcp server (which itself is another perl file). I tried to start the tcp server by forking: if (! fork()) { system ("$^X server.pl") == 0 or die "couldn't start server" } So when I call "make test" after "perl Makefile.PL", this test starts & I can see the server starting but after that the unit test just hangs there. So I guess I need to start this server in background and I tried the "&" at the end to force it to start in background & then test to continue. But, I still couldn't succeed. What am I doing wrong?     I have the following xaml for a toggle button: <ToggleButton Margin="0,3" Grid.Row="3" Grid.ColumnSpan="2" Command="{Binding DataContext.SelectAllCommand, Mode=OneWay, RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type UserControl}}}"> <ToggleButton.Style> <Style TargetType="{x:Type ToggleButton}"> <Setter Property="Content" Value="Select All"/> <Style.Triggers> <Trigger Property="IsChecked" Value="True"> <Setter Property="Content" Value="Select None"/> <Setter Property="Command" Value="{Binding DataContext.SelectNoneCommand, Mode=OneWay, RelativeSource={RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType={x:Type UserControl}}}"/> </Trigger> </Style.Triggers> </Style> </ToggleButton.Style> </ToggleButton> But the IsChecked property never gets updated when clicking the button. If I use snoop and force the IsChecked to True then the trigger kicks in.

    Recently, I got a task of building a P2P file sharing system. There is one requirement : the system should have a document ranking algorithm so that it could be used help users find more valuable files. Several strategy might be useful : force user to give a score to a file before it was downloaded The documents containing certain key words would get higher rank Manager could modify file ranking manually the more a file was downloaded, it would get a higher rank. Do you know any other strategy or methods that also appropriate? Or is there any real world example?
