• dns service on OS X Snow Leopard Server

  Hello all, I have a Mac Mini (1.83GHz, 1.5 RAM) with a fresh install of OS X Snow Leopard Server and I want to use it for DNS and web hosting. What I have done so far is to go to the domain registrar and configure a new nameserver (ns.domain.tld) to point to my static IP. This Mac Mini is behind a DI-524 router and I have forwarded ports 53 and 80 to the Mini. I have also added the domain name to the DNS configuration pannel (as in the attachment), but intodns.com gives the following error (among others, and obviously the site is not working): "Mismatched NS records WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records."   Search Crawling is error out on my MOSS 2007 installation. I get the following error for all the web apps I have following error in Crawl logs. http://mysites.devserver URL could not be resolved. The host may be unavailable, or the proxy settings are not configured correctly on the index server. The Application Event log also has the following corresponding error The start address http://mysites.devserver cannot be crawled. Context: Application 'SSPMain', Catalog 'Portal_Content' Details: The URL of the item could not be resolved. The repository might be unavailable, or the crawler proxy settings are not configured. To configure the crawler proxy settings, use the Proxy and Timeout page in search administration. (0x80041221) I'm using Windows 2008 server. I tried accessing the site using the above mentioned url and its available. I did the registry setting for loop back issue found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 still not luck. Any Ideas?

  The title of the question might be misleading because I'm not an expert and I'm trying to learn the proper terminology. That being said, I'm wondering if it's possible to setup a wildcard DNS record for any number of dot separation in domain names and have them all point to the network root. This is for WordPress multisite, users will have the option of choosing a mapped domain name, I want to configure my DNS so that both mysite.co.uk.network.com and mysite.com.network.com are valid (I realize this is a but ugly, but WordPress multisite requires that each site have a unique site_url and I'd prefer to preserve the period-delimited appearance if it's possible).

  I'm trying to configure IIRF 2 on IIS 5.1 running on XP Pro, so that I can run the Zend Framework. I've managed to get the filter running on a second website that I setup using one the IIS admin scripts. When I goto iirfStatus I get this: The problem is the .ini path for the site is pointing to c:\windows\system32\Irif.ini rather than the site root. If I try creating an IIS application under IIS-Website Properties-Home Directory then iirfStatus stops working entirely. Any ideas how I can set the ini path correctly, or will I only be able to get away with this on a proper server edition of IIS?

  IIS 7.5 FTP IIS Manager Users Login Fail (530) I'm trying to set up a FTP site on IIS 7.5 that allows IIS Manager Users to login. I'm following this guide: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/321/configure-ftp-with-iis-7-manager-authentication/. After set up, I cannot login to the FTP using an IIS Manager User account. The client error I got was 530 User cannot log in. Win32 error: Unspecified error. Error details: An error occured during the authentication process. I tried both with or without a virtual host. A Windows account login fine. The only strange thing I noticed was that when setting up Read permission for Network Service, there was an access denied error when setting up permission for "%SystemDrive%\Windows\System32\inetsrv\config\schema". Any thoughts? Thanks!

• ISA forms authentication problems after installing moss sp2

  Guys I have a problem that's flared back up after installing WSS and MOSS service pack 2. The problem centers around the users being prompted to enter credentials when interacting with office documents. This problem came up before and I was able to go into ISA server and configure a persistent cookie on the web listener. As we all know when configuring a cookie you have two options use only on private computers or use on all computers. If I select use on all computers I can't even log in to Sharepoint from the forms page however if I select use only on private computer I'm able to log in and also I don't get prompted when opening office documents. So I would like to ask has something changed with Sharepoint service pack 2 because that’s the only change that’s been made to my environment.

• Broadcom NIC Teaming with Hyper-V R2

  I have read a few contradictory articles regarding support or at least configuration with teaming of Broadcom NIC's and Hyper-V. I have a pair of Dell R805's with 4 Broadcom 5708 NIC's in them. I have teamed them up (one team for public connections and one for private connections) and I have installed Hyper-V. I am getting some intermittent connection issues though and I'm concerned that it might be due to the teaming. Basically I am wondering if anyone has successfully setup NIC teaming in the parent partition and used the teamed adapters through the Hyper-V switch. If so, what is the configuration/proper steps that you used to configure this. I have the server running Windows Server 2008 R2. Right now the server is in test mode, but my concern is that we won't see any issues until we move it into production and get some heavy traffic on the ports.

• Can't resolve localhost on Mac OS X Server

  I have a server running OS X Server 10.5 and it can't resolve localhost to 127.0.0.1. When I try ping this is what happens: ping localhost ping: cannot resolve localhost: Unknown host SSH and web browsers get similar results (uknown host). If I try using 127.0.0.1 or the ip address assigned on the LAN all of the above work. Here's the contents of my /etc/hosts file: cat /etc/hosts ## # Host Database # # localhost is used to configure the loopback interface # when the system is booting. Do not change this entry. ## 127.0.0.1 localhost 255.255.255.255 broadcasthost ::1 localhost fe80::1%lo0 localhost I have no local DNS service running. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening or how I can fix it?

• OpenSUSE Yast permissions for user

  I have an OpenSUSE 11.4 box with Kde 4.6. I am currently working to create a sandbox environment for the user, let's call hime bob. Bob isn't allowed to do much in the system, but I'd like to let him configure certain things in yast. I have dektop shortcuts for particular yast modules, e.g. the shortcut executes xdg-su -c "/sbin/yast2 lan" to launch yast lan configuration. Now, I do not want Bob to have to enter password to launch this configuration (just please don't tell me it's insecure - I know this, in this particular setting it is going to be OK). I wanted to do this with setuid, but obiously setting it on *.desktop shortcut doesn't work. There is sudo approach, but I would have to allow Bob to use all yast modules. So, is there anything more fine-grained to set the permissions for exact yast modules? Thanks in advance!

  Ok, I'm having the exact same problem as in this question http://serverfault.com/questions/59635/outbound-ftp-on-server-2008-r2-stalls but the accepted answer didn't help me much... I followed the third step of this http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/309/configuring-ftp-firewall-settings/ guide in order to configure my firewall for FTP, and I am able to authenticate, however, the data channel doesn't seem to be passing through the firewall. If I disable the firewall, everything works fine. Hope someone can help me, as this is really starting to annoy me. Best regards, x3ro

• How to log the actual output in apache?

  I am doing LAMP development for a mobile platform. However, the client browser does not allow me to view the source code of visited pages. I consider the source code to be of huge importance for debugging, so I would like to configure my web server so every time a user makes a request, in addition to sending the client a response, that response (the actual contents of the returned page) is also stored in a file with a filename I can cross-relate with access_log (maybe ip-timestamp-filename? or maybe a unique ID in an additional column in access_log?). I've searched quite a bit, but haven't even gotten close to finding what I'm looking for. Has anybody been able to do this?

  I'm trying to configure SVN server on OS X 10.6.2 via Apache2. Whenever I enable the module in Wev - Settings - Services then try accessing the site, it fails. So I attempted an apachectl configtest and I'm getting a crazy amount of errors: httpd: Syntax error on line 132 of /private/etc/apache2/httpd.conf: Cannot load /usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so into server: dlopen(/usr/libexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so, 10): Symbol not found: _dav_add_response\n Referenced from: /usr/libexec/apache2/mode_dev_fs.so\n Expected in: flat namespace\n in /usr/livexec/apache2/mod_dav_fs.so When I attempt disabling the related services and enabling then one by one (dav_fs_module, dav_module, dav_svn_module and authz_svn_mod each seems to fail. • Can I install Microsoft Visual Web Developer w/o a SQL Server Express installation?

  When I attempt to install Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, it forces an installation of SQL Server 2008 Express, which is okay. However, it forces it to have the instance name SQLEXPRESS instead being the default instance. I tried installing SQL Server 2008 Express first, but the Web Platform Installer 3.0 still wants to download and install the named instance, which then I have to uninstall. I'm putting together a guide that several others in my group will follow, so I'd like to not have to tell them to "install, then uninstall". So, is there any reasonable way to either (1) install VWD w/o SS, or (2) install VWD but configure SS do use the default instance?

  I can connect successfully to my database using tsql when I bypass the freetds.conf file, like so: % TDSVER=8.0 tsql -H 10.100.102.202 -p 1086 -U sa After I enter my password, I am presented with a 1> prompt, and it is ready for my commands. However, if I try to connect using the definition in my freetds.conf file, like this: % tsql -S Millie -U sa after entering my password, it seems to be trying to generate a prompt, but it just keeps counting. I will see 1, followed by 2, etc, without ever displaying a > character. Here is what I have for my freetds.conf: [global] # TDS protocol version tds version = 8.0 text size = 64512 [Millie] host = 10.100.102.202 port = 1086 What could be causing this anomaly? • Windows performance monitor new instances

  Hi all, I am trying to configure performance monitor on 2003/2008R1&R2 to capture new instances of the counters without any luck. For example if I select counter Process\%Processor time (to monitor processor time per any instances of the process) everything works fine until I open or close any application. If in the meanwhile new application is open it will not be included in the monitoring processor, and old application instance will display zero for % processor time. The problem is performance monitor is not refreshing instances of the new applications/users/new terminal session/ or any other metrics that changes instances in the meanwhile. The solution is to stop/start log file, but I don't want to do that every sec and the logging will be split into two files. Anybody knows how do I accomplish to add all new instances? Any help greatly appreciated

• ifilter not working with MOSS 2007, cant crawl .pdf

  Installed ifilter and followed the guides: http://msmvps.com/blogs/sundar_narasiman/archive/2008/02/06/configuring-moss-2007-to-search-pdf-documents-install-and-configure-pdf-ifilters.aspx and the accompanying link to the MS hotfix.. I have initiated multiple crawls that don't show any .pdf documents, let alone the contents of the .pdfs (I did constantly upload test documents with real content). In the 'file types' menu of the shared servies, it didn't show the pdf icon as I think it was meant to, it also lists 'pdf' as filetype 'AcroExch.Document', is this correct? Any ideas anyone?

• HP ProCurve GVRP Setup

  I'm trying to setup GVRP on my 4 ProCurve switches. Currently I have a Layer 3 3500yl-24G (J8692A) which is connected to 3 Layer 2 2510G-48 (J9280A). I have three trunk ports setup on the 3500 connected to the 3 switches and currently everything seems to be working, the devices are talking to eachother and GVRP is pushing its configurations from the 3500 to the 3 other switches. My question is, once GVRP is setup, how exactly do I configure the ports on the 3 L2 switches to use the correct VLAN? I'm new to ProCurve network equipment and this is much easier to setup on Cisco equipment.

• Cisco 877 as a VPN server?

  I have a Cisco 877 router which connects my network to the Internet using an ADSL line, a single public IP address and NAT; the IOS version is 15. Everything is working ok, but I'd like to configure this router to be a VPN server, to be able to connect to the network from the outside. I've tried looking for documentation, but everything I can find is related to having the 877 act as a VPN client, or to site-to-site VPNs; I can't find anything about letting single remote computers access the internal network, which is something I can do quite easily using Windows' RRAS or ISA Server. Can the Cisco 877 act as a VPN server for remote client computers? (Looks like it should, but just to be sure...) Which type of VPNs does it support? Do they require some special software on the client machines, or can they be used by standard out-of-the-box Windows computers? And, finally: how to set up this?

  My present DNS configuration for my website's A record is as below Name Value --------------------------- example.com 67.45.xx.xx www.example.com 67.45.xx.xx In above configuration user can open website either by example.com or by www.example.com. One of my SEO team-member argues for single point access. According to him search engine’s crawler see 2 different name with same content. It is not good and we should configure domain in such a way that if user open example.com then browser automatically get redirected to www.example.com. Now I have 2 questions Does above argument is valid? If yes then what changes I need to do in my DNS?

  My Configure Command doesn't say anything about jpg, nor gif/png, but I can see gif/png support in the output of phpinfo(). I built PHP with --with-gd, but only GIF Support and PNG Support are in the output of phpinfo(), how do I enable JPEG Support? UPDATE I got this problem when compiling : Sorry, I cannot run apxs. Possible reasons follow: 1. Perl is not installed 2. apxs was not found. Try to pass the path using --with-apxs2=/path/to/apxs 3. Apache was not built using --enable-so (the apxs usage page is displayed) The output of /usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs follows: cannot open /usr/local/apache2/build/config_vars.mk: No such file or directory at /usr/local/apache2/bin/apxs line 218.
