• Android AVD With GoogleApi, Not Getting Network Connection

  I am working on a Windows XP Machine. When running AVDs out of Eclipse, I am getting "No Network Connection" when I am plugged into my company's network and using an AVD that was built with the "Google APIs by Google Inc., Android API 7, revision 1". If I use this same AVD (Google API) and connect to the internet through a Verizon Wireless card, the AVD gets an Internet Connection. If I use an AVD built with "SDK Platform Android 2.1, API 7, revision 1", and connect through my company's network, the AVD gets an Internet Connection. Any ideas what might be blocking this? I am guessing it is something in my company's network, but why only with the AVD created with the Google API?

• Splitting android application in to two 'branches', free and paid.

  I've developed an android-application that I'dd like to put up on the marketplace. However, I want to split it into two separate applications, one free (with ads), and one paid (logically without ads). How would I go about doing that? I'm not wondering about adding ads (I've alreaddy managed that), but how to take one existing android-application (eclipse-project) and split it into two without having to create a new project and just copy-paste every file one by one (or in batch for that matter). Is that possible? Btw, I use GIT for SCM, so I've made two separate branches, one master and one free, but I need to set some cind of config-value that makes shure that the market separates them as two different applications. Also, when a user 'upgrades', is it possible to copy the db from the free app to the paid one?

• Embedded ZXing - what am I missing?

  Hi all, Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am trying to make an application that will include the ability to scan barcodes on Android. I'm looking at using ZXing as the library, however, I want to embed the scanner in my application so that the user doesn't have to have the ZXing barcode scanner installed to use my application. From the description of ZXing, it sounds like this is possible. I've gotten as far as building ZXing, linking it into my project in Eclipse, then creating a new reader instance. However, I'm lost when it comes to starting the barcode reader and implementing the callbacks. IMO, this is when the documentation here gets hazy. If someone could explain how to use ZXing properly, that would be of great help. Cheers!

• Problem -- My Android "Hello World" App Won't Say 'Hello"

  Hello, I hope that I have come to the right post for a beginner’s question abut Android programming. If not, please feel free to direct me to a better forum. I created a hello world application, and the system generated most of the Android language below. When running the app without the system.out statement, there is no “hello” in the emulator. Then, using the Eclipse tutorial, I read that I can add the system.out.println statement to main. Again the app runs, but there is no output. • Jython 2.5.1: "ImportError: No Module named os"

  I looked through the other posts and bug reports and couldn't figure out what's causing this. I'm using Jython 2.5.1, in a Java project in Eclipse (Ubuntu 8.10). It has been added to the project as a standalone .jar file (I just replaced the old Jython 2.1 jar with this one). I'm running a script that uses the threading.py class. At some point the statement "import os" is evaluated from linecache.py and I get this error, which I can't seem to figure out how to fix: 'Execution failed. • Unable to Push source code to Bzr/Bazaar

  I am having issues pushing my codes into my Bazaar repository. It worked earlier for my first commit but not it does not work at all. Everytime I try to push my codes, I get this exception Error while executing push [Error 5] Access is denied: 'c:\\users\\benjam~1.won\\appdata\\local\\temp\\tmpj2hcal.pag' Any idea how I resolve this? I have even deleted the repo and .git folder and tried again but I keep getting this error regardless of the branch I guess. I am using this as my machine : Windows Vista Business 32 bit 4GB RAM Eclipse + Aptana

• How to combine library with my jar?

  Ok so i wrote a program that makes use of a 3rd party open source library and i want to package it with my program in a single jar. I'm using netbeans 6.8 and everything I've tried java always spit back the error: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: libraryname; off topic:also i would like to know how to make an executable-jar(exe) through netbeans if it is possible. (ive seen programs that were written in java but were an .exe) EDIT discovered a plugin for eclipse called FatJar which can do what i want, but i cant find something similar for netbeans, is there such thing?

• Java Web Service - Faulty Services - ClassNotFound Exception

  My Project has 2 java files (A.java and B.java in same package). A.java uses methods in B.java. And, an external jar has been added in the project build path. In order to create a web service (bottom up) from the class, I created a new Dynamic Web Project in Eclipse with axis2 as the runtime platform, and imported A.java and B.java source files. Next, since all my methods that need to be exposed are contained in A.java, I right click on it and created web service using the standard settings. When I deploy the web service on my apache, I get "Fault Service" and a few ClassNotFound Exceptions for some of the classes in my external jar file (I have already imported it as an external jar). Does the external jar needs to be imported in another way?

• What can I do with Java for Blu Ray or BD-J?

  I have a Blu Ray player which can connect to the internet to play media from netflix and youtube. I am intrigued by the possibilities of BD-J and wondering just how far the technology can be taken. For instance: Could I write a twitter, facebook, rss reader, or email client? Can I write a game which would allows people to play each other over the web from their own tv? Could I write a DVR app which stored tv shows on the thumbdrive plugged into the player. Can I run my applications from a thumbdrive or do I need to put them on a Blu Ray disk? Does anyone have real experience with BD-J? How do you like it as a development platform? How would you recommend getting started? Can I develop in BD-J using open source tools like Eclipse, Maven, etc...

• NoSuchPortException using RXTX Java library on Windows?

  I have followed the instructions to setup rxtx on windows from http://www.jcontrol.org/download/readme_rxtx_en.html. What I did exactly was copy rxtxSerial.dll to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\jre\bin" and copied RXTXcomm.jar to "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\jre\lib\ext" (my JAVA_HOME variable is set to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_07\jre) I also added RXTXcomm.jar to my eclipse project. But when I run it, it still says "NoSuchPortException" Devel Library ========================================= Native lib Version = RXTX-2.0-7pre1 Java lib Version = RXTX-2.0-7pre1 java.lang.ClassCastException: gnu.io.RXTXCommDriver cannot be cast to gnu.io.CommDriver thrown while loading gnu.io.RXTXCommDriver gnu.io.NoSuchPortException at gnu.io.CommPortIdentifier.getPortIdentifier(CommPortIdentifier.java:218) at TwoWaySerialComm.connect(TwoWaySerialComm.java:20) at TwoWaySerialComm.main(TwoWaySerialComm.java:107) In my java file, I tell it: try { (new TwoWaySerialComm()).connect("COM4"); } and I've also tried the Java Comm API. Both cannot recognize my serial port but I am sure I followed the instruction correctly. There files are there. Does anybody have any idea what it could be?

  Hello I am completly new to eclipse, liferay and ANT. I tried to set up a development environment and just finished the ext-anvironment (I also executed ant clean start). Now I've to execute "ant build-ext", following this tutorial: http://www.liferay.com/web/guest/community/wiki/-/wiki/Main/Setting%20up%20the%20Extension%20Environment D:\_liferay\ext>ant build-ext Buildfile: D:\_liferay\ext\build.xml But I receive the Message: BUILD FAILED Target "build-ext" does not exist in the project "ext". • CSS Redundancy checker for GWT

  In my project i have a lot of css styles. Some of them are never used (not anymore). I check this manually with eclipse: i select text and then with "Search - Text - Project" i can find, if this style occurs only in the stylesheet or also in java files. Is there better way to check, which styles are currently used in my GWT project? edit: @Igor,Keith: thanks for the hint, but i'm not using the CssResource to insert my css file. Instead i use my index.html. And i want to remove the unused styles just for better overview. CssResource is not exactly, what i'm looking for.

  Do you know of any text editor that can be used with a spell checker which is smart enough to ignore XHML/CSS and javascript tags? The requirements would be: It must run in Linux; It must be free and open source; It doesn't need to have WYSIWYG capabilities, but they would be welcome. It must have built in "tag skipping" capabilities or be configurable to skip (X)HTML tags, CSS and embedded Javascript; It doesn't need to have a HTML validator, but if it does it will be a plus; I've tried to use spell checker plugins for Kate, HTML validators for Firefox, Eclipse's HTML editor, but I couldn't find a solution that have a speel checker that ignores hml tags. • "read lock failed" at cvs annotate

  I am trying to use cvs annotate. This is the what I run: cvs -d /mycvs/cvsroot/ annotate "projects/dg/SomeClass.java" However, I get the following error: cvs annotate: failed to create lock directory for `/mycvs/cvsroot/projects/dg^M' (/mycvs/cvsroot/projects/dg^M/#cvs.lock): No such file or directory cvs annotate: failed to obtain dir lock in repository `/mycvs/cvsroot/projects/dg^M' cvs [annotate aborted]: read lock failed - giving up What does this mean? How can I overcome this problem? Could it be related to the ^M character I see at the error message? When I use eclipse to do the annotation it works. I checked and the directory `/mycvs/cvsroot/projects/dg' exists. The error also occurs when I'm logged in as root, so probably it's not a permissions issue either. I am using CentOS

• Ubuntu: What gcc to use when crosscompiling for the STM32 (Cortex-M3)?

  Hi I'm trying to get started with the STM32 (Cortex-M3) and my plan is get this working from Ubuntu (9.04 / AMD64). To start with I got the Olimex stm32-h103 header board and the Olimex ARM-USB-OCD jtag, and on to of that I will probably use OpenOCD, gcc and Eclipse. But right now I'm looking into what version of gcc to use and how to setup that to be able to crosscompile the code. There seem to be some arm projects out there but I don't know what to start with, can somebody push me in the right direction? Thanks Johan Update: There seems almost to be what I want from codesourcery, but they seem to focus on IA32 and not AMD64. However in the supported devices I find the Cortex-M3 ARM EABI, ARM M-profile Simulator -mcpu=cortex-m3 -mthumb Update: There is a possibility to install IA32 on AMD64, so maybe the marked answer is obsolete already. I'm developing an application with Hibernate 3.5 and Spring 3.0 Pros: Good documentation Easy configuration and helpful logs Popularity - wide community Some extensions to JPA Some additional Tools - JBoss Tools for Eclipse, hbm2ddl, generating static metamodel etc... Cons: Bugs! (Sequences, collections etc...) Lots of reatures are doubled with "pure" Hibernate. There's a mess in legacy Hibernate and JPA annotations. I'm considering to switch to EclipseLink. What do You think ? Edit: I've tried EclipseLink and have very bad experiences. It seems like EclipseLink needs LoadTimeWeaver and likes to run on OSGi platform rather than simple Jetty or Tomcat environment. I just don't have time for all this configuration stuff.

• Why do people still use Vi and Emacs?

  This is not a subjective question. I am genuinely looking for techinccal reasons to do so. I will risk offending some folks (not intended as an offence – maybe as a goad) by saying that I have been coding for 30+ years and used to be religously attched to each of them, but as soone as I saw editor-cum-IDE which seemed to offer more, I moved on. Is there any compelling reason, in this day and age, to choose Vi / Emacs over – say- Eclipse for code editing? Even Notepad++ for win-doze users seems to offer more. Just sayin'

• What's the best JSF implementation?

  Hey everyone, I currently have a medium size Java web application sitting on top of Spring MVC. As much as I like (no sarcasm) coding straight HTML, CSS and JS, it's not possible for me to develop as fast as I'd like. I'm looking at different RAD frameworks to speed up my development. I'm looking at JSF implementations and component libraries, Flex, GWT and a few others. As of now, Apache MyFaces (with ICEFaces) seems to be the front runner in my mind, but I'm curious to find out what you all think of that specific implementation and if the Sun implementation is any better? What's important to me is something that is stable, has an active community and that it doesn't look like there is another technology in the near future that is going to eclipse JSF (which would drive me to use a different RAD framework). • How to use Mahout in a Windows environment?

  I am trying to use Mahout in an application running on Windows. I want to build clusters from a lucene index using k-means. As soon as I have to create sequence files (creating vectors from a lucene index), I get a Hadoop-Exception, since Hadoop makes command line calls to programs unknown in a Windows environment (e.g. chmod). Running in Cygwin is not an option, since I want to be able to run the App from eclipse. So my question is is there a way to avoid having to create sequence files to retrieve my vectors from a lucene index? or is there a way to create sequence files in a Windows environment?

• Install app on Motorola Backflip from AT&T

  I'm trying to test an app out on the Motorola Backflip with AT&T as the carrier. I checked USB debugging on the phone's Development screen. Using Eclipse, how do I get the app to load on the Backflip so I can test it? DDMS shows a device with a bunch of question marks and unkown. Seems that it only gives me the option to load the app on the SD card which doesn't do me any good. I searched and found a Motorola driver which I'm supposed to install to the adb folder. Where is that folder? I've checked the phone and on my development machine. Maybe I need new glasses?
