• Why is my spawned process still causing IntelliJ to wait?

  I'm trying to start a server as part of an Ant artifact. Here are the relevant lines: <exec dir="." executable="cmd.exe" spawn="true"> <arg line="/c c:\Java\james-2.3.2\bin\debug.bat" /> </exec> If I start it with ant from the command line, a process is spawned and I get a command prompt and everything seems fine. However, if I start it from IntelliJ 6, my IDE, the build stays alive until I kill the server. Either way, I have only limited control over what IntelliJ does. My question is: how does IntelliJ even know the process is running? The Ant process is long gone. Is there a way to start a subprocess in a more sneaky way, so that IntelliJ won't even know there's anything to wait around for? The build window always stays up until I kill the server. Any ideas?

  Specifically, I want to use Point-to-point Message Queue but because I am still using legacy codes in eVC++ 4 and it only support until PocketPC 2003SE SDK, I cannot find CreateMsgQueue and friends in the headers (the port to newer VisualStudio is still in progess) I am using the Message Queue to do IPC with apps developed with WM-6.5-DTK (VS2005). Update: I am using the following code (taken from msgqueue.h) to store function pointers and load CoreDLL.dll using GetProcAddress() and LoadLibrary() respectively. • NHibernate.MappingException (no persister for) weirdness

  The weird part being that I have other tests that validate the mapping and even the method being called (Nhib session.SaveOrUpdate) that run just fine. The entire exception is below. Here is some debug output from a test that does work: Item type: Domain.Model.Projects.Project item: 007-00-056 ATM Machine Replacement Is transient: True Id: 0 NHibernate: INSERT INTO Projects (Code, Description) VALUES (@p0, @p1); select insert_rowid();@p0 = '007-00-056', @p1 = 'ATM Machine Replacement' Here is the same debug output before the exception: Item type: Smack.ConstructionAdmin.Domain.Model.Projects.Project item: 006-00-023 Refinish Casino Chairs Is transient: True Id: 0 The two tests are different in that the one that works is just testing the repository, and saving in memory test data. The failing one is saving data that has been converted from a legacy db (which has it's own session). The repository is also a replacement design for a different IProjectRepsitory that worked fine doing this, so the new repository is also a likely suspect here. Does anyone see what I'm missing or have some questions to narrow it down? • How to pass touch from a UITextView to a UITableViewCell

  I have a UITextView in a custom UITableViewCell. The textview works properly (scrolls, shows text, etc.) but I need the users to be able to tap the table cell and go to another screen. Right now, if you tap the edges of the table cell (i.e. outside the UItextView) the next view is properly called. But clearly inside the uitextview the touches are being captured and not forwarded to the table cell. I found a post that talked about subclassing UITextView to forward the touches. I tried that without luck. The implementation is below. I'm wondering if maybe a) the super of my textview isn't the uitableviewcell and thus I need to pass the touch some other way or b) If the super is the uitableviewcell if I need to pass something else? • NSXMLParser: how do I wait until loading has finished?

  Let's say I'm using NSXMLParser to load a level (stored as an XML document, obviously) into my iPhone game. NSXMLParser works by assigning a delegate and sending it messages at key moments. How do I ensure that my entire level is loaded before doing anything else? I know I can make my main class the delegate and implement parserDidEndDocument, but this feels very hacky. My main class shouldn't have to know anything about the way the parsing is done! On the other hand, if I make a separate class/delegate for parsing my level, my main class has no way of knowing when the parsing is finished, unless it queries the parsing class continuously or the parsing class sends it a message. Either way, the main class would be tied to the implementation of the parsing class. Can I hide all this event-driven business from the main class and simply make the parser return the level object when it's done? (i.e., newLevel = [[GameLevel alloc] initFromXML:xmlfile], which would in turn use NSXMLParser to load the level and then somehow return when finished.) At the moment, I'm using an external DOM parser, but I'm curious how this would be done with NSXMLParser. Sorry if this is a stupid question -- I'm a bit new to this!

• How should clients handle HTTP 401 with unknown authentication schemes?

  What is the proper behavior for an HTTP client receiving a 401 Unauthorized response that specifies only unrecognized authentication schemes? My server supports Kerberos authentication using WWW-Authenticate: Negotiate. On the first request, the server sends a 401 Unauthorized response with a body containing an HTML document. The behavior that I expect is for clients that support Kerberos to perform that authentication and for other clients to simply display the HTML document (a login form). It seems that most of the "other clients" I've encountered do work this way, but a few do not. I haven't found anything that mandates any particular behavior in this situation. There's a brief mention in RFC 2617: HTTP Authentication: Basic and Digest Access Authentication, but is there anything more concrete? It is possible that a server may want to require Digest as its authentication method, even if the server does not know that the client supports it. A client is encouraged to fail gracefully if the server specifies only authentication schemes it cannot handle.

  I'm trying to connect to an FTP server that uses TLS on port 990. Unfortunately, the server uses a self-signed cert. What FTP clients for Windows handle this type of connection securely, such that I can securely verify the cert before continuing with the connection and logging in? (The server admin has supplied me with the expected certificate thumbprint to look for.) As an example of doing it wrongly, Core FTP LE 2.2 presents a dialog with basic information about the cert presented, inviting me to accept-once, accept-always or cancel. The dialog does not include the cert's hash/thumbprint and without that thumprint, I can't verify if the cert I'm being presented is the right one.

  I have an external HDD which I would like to "safely remove". Unfortunately, my system (Windows 7 x64) complains that "the device is currently in use". Using Process Explorer I discovered which process is holding a handle on the device: Obviously, System is not a process that I can just kill and be done with it. I've done a bit of research and this seems to be a common problem, but no solution has been found so far (except for rebooting the machine, which I'd like to avoid if possible). I have a tab bar controller with 5 navigation controlls, in one of the navigation control, i have a view, with a table view inside, and when i click that item i push a new view, that view have view -webview -view i create that second view(is transperant) because i need to handle a single tap to hide my toolbar and navigation bar, and the webview was eating all the touches!   I have noticed that Google Toolbox for Mac replaces several SQLite built-in functions (LOWER/UPPER, LIKE, GLOB) with its own versions that handle string locales better. So, question to everyone who has SQLite experience: have you ever had any problems with non-English locales in SQLite? Does one really have to do something to properly handle non-English alphabets? What kinds of problems are expected if I use SQLite APIs as-is? (I'm going to use SQLite on the iPhone, but I guess it's the same across all platforms. I've been using Core Data previously and never had any problems, but this time I want to switch to non-ORMed db access.)

• What is the maximum number of virtualhosts Apache can handle?

  Hello. What is the maximum number of VirtualHosts Apache can handle on a single machine (I don't mean anything related to load, let's suppose it's irrelevant for the question). And we take only Apache without any proxifying things like nginx. I am asking because on one forum one guy reported that his Apache works unstable with the number of sites more than 400 on a single machine. If you have a config, that handles more than 400, please tell me here. Thanks.

  So it looks like on RoR, when Ajax (using form_remote_tag) returns a success code, Javascript is also returned to handle the visual effects. Is there any other ways to use static Javascript already loaded with the page? Must it be just raw Javascript and use the Prototype's Ajax success response to call the static Javascript code, or can it be some Rails mechanism related to RJS?

• How to handle request-wise DB transactions in ASP.NET MVC?

  I'm using SubSonic 3.0 (SimpleRepository) to handle database access in my ASP.NET MVC 1.0 application. It would be nice to handle a transaction for every web request, committing if everything went smooth and rolling back in case of exception. Is this possible? If so, how? I know this topic has been discussed many times, but I just couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I have built my own solution (create a TransactionScope in the controller, then commit/rollback in OnActionExecuted), but it turns out to be very unreliable.

• What kind of router do I need to handle multiple external I.P addresses?

  I have 3 dedicated I.P addresses going to a location with a few servers, and 1 RVS4000 router. Right now, only one I.P is being used. I would like a router that can use all 3 I.P addresses and I can make rules like this: IP1:80 goes to ServerA IP2:80 goes to ServerB What kind of router/device with what features do I need to handle this? I will need to set 30-40 rules to forward certain ports to certain servers. Only a couple ports will need to go to IP2 or IP3. Thanks

  I'm setting up an nginx - apache reverse proxy where nginx handles the static files and apache the dynamic. I have a search engine and depending on search parameter I either directly forward the user to the page they are looking for or provide a set of search results. I cache these results in memcached as key:/search.cgi?q=foo value: LOCATION:http://www.example.com/foo.html and key:/search.cgi?q=bar value: CONTENT-TYPE: text/html <html> .... .... </html> I can pull the "Content-type...." values out of memcached using nginx and send them to the user, but I can't quite figure out how to handle a returned value like "Location..." Can I?

• How to handle concurrency control in ASP.NET Dynamic Data?

  I've been quite impressed with dynamic data and how easy and quick it is to get a simple site up and running. I'm planning on using it for a simple internal HR admin site for registering people's skills/degrees/etc. I've been watching the intro videos at www.asp.net/dynamicdata and one thing they never mention is how to handle concurrency control. It seems that DD does not handle it right out of the box (unless there is some setting I haven't seen) as I manually generated a change conflict exception and the app failed without any user friendly message. Anybody know if DD handles it out of the box? Or do you have to somehow build it into the site?

• How do large companies handle software updates for users without administrative rights?

  I just started working for a small-medium size company doing IT support. Maybe 150 or less users. Right now every user has administrative rights to their own machine. This allows them to install updates or whatever else they would like to. I'm tired of getting on user's machines that are bloated with crap they put on themselves. So my first thought would be to take away administrative rights to their computer. This would also have other advantages such as preventing a lot of drive-by malware on the web etc. The problem arises that users are unable to install updates. (Even though I find most ignore these anyway) How do large companies handle software updates on all client machines? EDIT: Windows environment. Most servers are Windows Server 2003 Enterprise. Clients are all Windows. Win XP, Vista, and 7.

• Fullcalendar doesn't render color when using eventRender

  When I set-up fullCalendar and set eventRender function callback, I want to set the color of the event depending if LeadId is null or not. The event has all my properties returned for the event off the server. element is just the DOM element for the event. When I drag/move the event to somewhere else in the calendar, the event turns red, and if I inspect the event object it now has color set to Red. So the question is why isn't it applying on the 1st render, but on subsequent renders (i.e. after move) the colour gets applied?
