I am going to be administering a small network of linux based workstations for a charity institution (not all have the same distro- some are ubuntu and some are fedora). Is there something in Linux that is similar to group policy in windows?. For example I would like to standardize the wallpapers - have only firefox as a browser - default VLC as the media player etc etc.
Thank you, any suggestions are very appreciated.
I have a Kubuntu system which I stream amateur radio sound to via a flash interface. I want to be able to record the sound that the flash player is making at the press of a button. I also need the capability to do (hopefully real-time) spectrum analysis on the sound. I need a program (a firefox add-on would be ideal) that can do this for me.
When I start Apple QuickTime (regular non-pro version), it comes up with this page of content including "Hot Picks", "Quick Hits" and other advertising, which I assume it is getting from the internet.
How do I turn this off? I just want it to open the blank player, ready for me to play a file etc and not connect to the internet.
I am looking for a way to replicate the "Dim out" or "Turn the lights off" feature (that can be seen on various video sites on the web) into Windows ? This will darken (dim out) the active window.
It could be a windows shell extension/plugin or a video player plugin that has this feature.
The reason for I am looking for this is that I have a rather large monitor and doesn't use the whole screen when watching movies.
Vista start menu shows your most frequently used apps, which is great, I love it.
However, there are some apps which I use frequently through shell or such, that I do not want to appear on that menu. Winrar, Media Player Classic, Infranview...
I can right click on it to remove it, but it'll return to the menu shortly, how can I set it so that those apps never appear on the start menu.
Thanks.
I'm running Metasploit from Win 7 x64, and I've set up my Metasploitable 2 virtual machine on VMware Player. I can ping Metasploitable's IP address from the Metasploit console, however if I use nmap it says:
Note: Host seems down. If it is really up, but blocking our ping probles, try -Pn
I try it with the -Pn switch, it says
Nmap done: 1 IP address (0 hosts up) scanned in 0.64 seconds
I've disabled my Windows firewall and I'm running Metasploit as admin. Why can't I nmap my virtual machine?
By accident, I recently removed some videos from my phone. I tried to restoring them with Recuva and TuneUp Utilities and the results were "undf" files.
I tried to open with VLC, Media Player Classic and other video players to no avail. Where/how do I find out the codec for these files?
I would really love to be able to watch these videos again.
I've a stack of music VCDs which I'd like to be able to listen to on my mp3 player.
Any suggestions for the best tool to do the conversion? Preferably on windows, and free or open source.
I have Mini DV tapes, Hi8 or something lol. I have a camera that will not play them back, too choppy and cleaning has no effect. Is there a player, or adapter that can just read them into a computer? Thanks.
I want to conduct a contest, in which contestants are required to code in java/c and design AI or gameplay. The game should have a visual simulation so that the players could enjoy their designs (AI or gameplay) graphically as well.
A possible example can be soccer, in which contestant have to design the ai of the players and decided upon the team-play. Also, they play over the network in such a game against some other player.
How can i go about it?
hello, I'm watching video from one server via Windows Media Player, is it possible to record this video while I'm watching it? thanks in advance, I tried with download master but it doesn't work, thanks in advance
I have a new installation of Red5 on Ubuntu linux. We are using JW Player for clientside. We can pause and skip ahead when streaming FLV files. However when using mp4 files if you pause and then press play again it starts playback at the beginning. If I try to skip ahead it just plays from the beginning.

I have a promotional DVD from a client, and they want to put clips from it on their website.
I'm in a Windows environment, so I'm looking for a decent video editor program, free would be preferred. Then I guess I'd have some kind of flash-based player to embed in the website...
What do you recommend?
I have just installed the Xubuntu. And I feel that to use it play a mp3 is like kill myself twice.
I try to play it with Exaile, the boxed player with Xbuntu. But it says I need to install some mpeg codecs.
I found so many depends with sudo apt-cache depends.
How to install them? one by one?!
Many thanks.
I cannot seem to get a headless FlexUnit build to run in Hudson CI + xvnc plugin on Ubuntu 9.04. Here is what I have tried:
compiled using -use-network=false switch
added Global Flash Player Trust file
/var/lib/hudson/.macromedia/Flash_Player/#Security/FlashPlayerTrust/security.cfg (with the content /)
commented out the last line "twm &" from /var/lib/hudson/.vnc/xstartup
Context:
Windows 7
Wired mouse and keyboard
The Windows 7 Photos screensaver intermittently fails to kick in after 2 minutes. The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens.
I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists.
I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.
Yes, I really am asking how to turn down the volume. But first, some more detail:
My headphones are http://www.edimensional.com/product_info.php?cPath=22&products_id=122
They are really loud. I usually have to keep them on the lowest setting. If the source material is louder than average, I have to lower the output volume in the player software.
Is there a way to can adjust the Windows 7 volume settings so that my normal listening volume is around 50% instead?
Hi everyone,
i'm looking for a service that will provide live football/soccer statistics (match and player stats, preferably) over API or RSS (or whatever), or maybe just provide easily parsable stats.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Martin
