• Python string manipulation

  I'm trying to split a string into a int list for further processing. But somehow I can't remove certain whitespaces in between elements of the list. The string x is supposed to have a length of 1000 instead of 1019. I tried reading the documentation for python and saw the function strip() for stripping whitespaces from strings. However, it only works for trailing and leading whitespaces. How should I go about removing these whitespaces and also how do I convert a str list to a int list? • Grails and PermGen issue with g:link and g:render

  I've been running grails for sometime without any issues but recently after an upgrade to Grails 1.1.1, I've encountered the dreaded PermGen errors. Prior to the upgrade, no such issue. The error seems to be happening when the <g:link> and <g:render> tags are used in a GSP although I'm not sure it's indicative that this is the issue but more of the fact that it ran out of space when these tags were being rendered. Typically, everyone who encounters PermGen errors recommend increasing your java environment options -- but what maybe the source of the issue? Is it a Grails 1.1/hibernate/spring problem? • AppDomain.CurrentDomain.DomainUnload not be raised in Console app

  I have an assembly that when accessed spins up a single thread to process items placed on a queue. In that assembly I attach a handler to the DomainUnload event: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.DomainUnload += new EventHandler(CurrentDomain_DomainUnload); That handler joins the thread to the main thread so that all items on the queue can complete processing before the application terminates. The problem that I am experiencing is that the DomainUnload event is not getting fired when the console application terminates. Any ideas why this would be? Using .NET 3.5 and C#

• How do you build a Request-Response service using Asyncore in Python?

  I have a 3rd-party protocol module (SNMP) that is built on top of asyncore. The asyncore interface is used to process response messages. What is the proper technique to design a client that generate the request-side of the protocol, while the asyncore main loop is running. I can think of two options right now: Use the loop,timeout parameters of asyncore.loop() to allow my client program time to send the appropriate request. Create a client asyncore dispatcher that will be executed in the same asyncore processing loop as the receiver. What is the best option? I'm working on the 2nd solution, cause the protocol API does not give me direct access to the asyncore parameters. Please correct me if I've misunderstood the proper technique for utilizing asyncore.

• Scite Lua - escaping right bracket in regex?

  Hi all, Bumped into a somewhat weird problem... I want to turn the string: a\left(b_{d}\right) into a \left( b_{d} \right) in Scite using a Lua script. So, I made the following Lua script for Scite: function SpaceTexEquations() editor:BeginUndoAction() local sel = editor:GetSelText() local cln3 = string.gsub(sel, "\\left(", " \\left( ") local cln4 = string.gsub(cln3, "\\right)", " \\right) ") editor:ReplaceSel(cln4) editor:EndUndoAction() end The cln3 line works fine, however, cln4 crashes with: /home/user/sciteLuaFunctions.lua:49: invalid pattern capture >Lua: error occurred while processing command I think this is because bracket characters () are reserved characters in Lua; but then, how come the cln3 line works without escaping? By the way I also tried: -- using backslash \ as escape char: local cln4 = string.gsub(cln3, "\\right\)", " \\right) ") -- crashes all the same -- using percentage sign % as escape chare local cln4 = string.gsub(cln3, "\\right%)", " \\right) ") -- does not crash, but does not match either Could anyone tell me what would be the correct way to do this? • 2 AudioQueue questions

  I am learning to use AudioQueue. I wish to generate an audio stream programmatically. I have 2 issues that I cannot account for. I am getting audio when I run in the simulator, but not on an iPhone. (Other apps do produce sound on the phone). I get about 20ms-long gaps of silence between buffers. In my testing, I generate an audio buffer on startup and repeatedly enqueue it without modification. I don't spend any processing on filling audio buffers at runtime, not even copying them. Ari.

• Producer/consumer in Grails?

  Hi all, I'm trying to implement a Consumer/Producer app in Grails, after several unsuccessful attempts at implementing concurrent threads. Basically I want to store all the events coming from a clients (through separate AJAX calls) in a single queue and then process such a queue in a linear way as soon as new events are added. This looks like a Producer/Consumer problem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Producer-consumer_problem How can I implement this in Grails (maybe with a timer or even better by generating an event 'process queue')? Basically I'd like to a have a singleton service waiting for new events in the queue and processing them linearly (even if the queue is loaded by several concurrent processes). Any hints? Cheers!

  Drawing a blank on this, and google was not helpful. • Ajax loader image: How to set a minimum duration during which the loader is shown?

  I am using Jquery for Ajax functionality, and using a loader icon to indicate to the user that data is being retrieved. However, I want the user to see the loader icon for at least 1s, even if the data takes less than 1s to retrieve (if more than 1s is required, the loader icon should remain for the entire duration. • differences between using wmode="transparent", "opaque", "window" for an embedded object on webpage

  when embedding a Flash object with the <object and <embed tag, there is an attribute called "wmode". It seems that most of the time, wmode="transparent" is the same as wmode="opaque" as the Flash doesn't actually have any transparent color so that the bottom HTML element is to be shown. As a result, "opaque" should be faster than "transparent" since it require less processing for transparency, yet most of the time i see Flash object embedded with "transparent" instead of "opaque". "opaque" is needed so that other HTML element won't be covered up by the Flash object. (such as a menu item that pops up an extra sub-menu won't be covered up by the Flash object). By the way, is there formal documentation for wmode's "opaque", "transparent", and "window"? I was only able to find blogs that describe it but not the formal documentation. thanks.

  I'm maintaining a Windows CE app built with the .NET Framework that has about 45 forms. There are 5 'sections' which lead to the function you want. The application is 100% full screen and it is important that it can't be minimized. Since there are so many forms, it's difficult to keep track of which form should be displayed after one is closed. For this, I'm setting the form owner property before showing it, and showing the owner when closing it. I've also been advised that it is best to instantiate all forms when the application loads, and not dispose them to save processing time. I'm not sure about this. My question is, what is the best way to go about showing, hiding forms where you want any 1 form to be in front, full screen all time?

  I'm processing an IMAP mailbox and running into trouble parsing the dates using the mxDateTime package. • Detecting a image 404 in javascript.

  After a user uploads a file we have to do some additional processing with the images such as resizing and upload to S3. This can take up to 10 extra seconds. Obviously we do this in a background. However, we want to show the user the result page immediately and simply show spinners in place until the images arrive in their permanent home on s3. I'm looking for a way to detect that a certain image failed to load correctly (404) in a cross browser way. If that happens, we want to use JS to show a spinner in it's place and reload the image every few seconds until it can be successfully loaded from s3.

Initially I get a sting (from a file stored on the server) between #DATA# and #END# using: function getStringBetweenStrings($string,$start,$end){ $startsAt=strpos($string,$start)+strlen($start); $endsAt=strpos($string,$end, $startsAt); return substr($string,$startsAt,$endsAt-$startsAt); } I do some processing and based on the details of the string, query for some records. If there are records I need to be able to append them at the end of the string and then re-insert the string between #DATA# and #END# within the file on the server. How can I best achieve this? Is it possible to insert a record at a time in the file before #END# or is it best to manipulate the string on the server and just re-insert over the existing string in the file on the server?

  My project is a computer vision java application which should implement the following : A web interface through which the form entry+images(for example a student data) will be stored into a database(Mysql) & images into directory common to my java application. Then the data & images can be retrieved from my java Gui application and I can perform the following operations of image processing through OpenCV. Actually,I want to run the face detection on images retrieved and discard the false entries(no proper face). Also the application user/admin can search an image based on text search(By Id) or By another reference image using face recognition. I am well familiar with Java but the problem is that I need a guidance on how to organise it in a stepwise manner(links appreciated).OpenCv,Php and mySql are really messy.I know doing the openCV stuff within java is real overhead but i really want to do it.But If there is any suggestion to do it elseway please guide me.So any kind of help is a ray of hope for me. • How to validate HTTP request headers before receiving request body using WCF

  I'm implementing a REST service using WCF which will be used to upload very large files. The HTTP headers in this request will communicate information which will be validated prior to allowing the upload to proceed (things like permissions, available disk space, etc). It's possible this validation will fail resulting in an error response. I'd like to do this validation prior to the client sending the body of the request, so it has a chance to detect failure before uploading potentially gigabytes of data. RESTful web services use the HTTP 1.1 Expect: 100-continue in the request to implement this. For example Amazon S3's REST API can validate your key and ACLs in response to an object PUT operation, returning 100 Continue if all is well, indicating you may proceed to send your data. I've rummaged around the WCF documentation and I just can't see a way to accomplish this without doing some pretty low-level hooking into the HTTP request processing pipeline. How would you suggest I solve this problem?

I would like the string to have the same information as my floating point variable contains, since I use the output for further processing (even if it means that the string will be very long and readable). • a loading screen for a c# wpf listbox

  I'm using a list box where there are on average about 500 thumbnails (items) that can be sorted and searched. Since I'm using default databinding and search descriptors (which I've heard are slow due to reflection) the list takes a noticeable pause of a few seconds loading, sorting, and searching (the list dynamically updates based on the contents of the search box so the first one or two letters typed are really slow). I don't think I can fully do away with reflection give the timeframe for the project, and speed isn't super essential, but I'd like some kind of graphical indication of the delay so it doesn't confuse the user. How could I do something like a website video loading screen where the listbox grays out and some kind of loading circle indicates it's processing until the list is ready? Or even just grayed out with the words "Loading..." for a few seconds could work. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!!!
