• joomla 2.5 : list links to articles in 2 columns

  I have a Joomla! 2.5 website, and I have to add a lightbox popup that will contain links to all articles from a specific category(+subs). If anyone can suggest all-in-one solution, that will be great! But generally I'm asking, how to list links to all articles from a specific category and its sub-categories in two/three columns? I know I can set Category blog View to output only article links, without full/introtext, but in this case links will all be in one column. I need at least two. A possibility of grouping article links by subcategory would be great as well (but this is the thing I can live without). How can this be done? I'm looking for: a standard way of configuring this Template override (I'm using T3 framework) Custom extension any other method ...

  I am looking for a (best open-source or free but also commercially available) CMS platform that is built similarly to bulletin boards (for example phpBB) but instead of text posts, registered users can upload files that can be rated, commented etc.) I am aware of the number of board CMSes that have file-database plugins, but that is not what I want. I want to have a system that focuses on the files rather than on the postings. Or do you have any alternative ideas on solutions to the problem? • Blogger Dynamic template sometimes broken

  In all browsers (IE, Chrome, etc.) in my office and in all Blogger blogs using the dynamic template, I'm having this strange problem: No menu on the right side (except for the Subscribe button - other buttons are missing) plus no layout selection bar (top row). This problem is occasional, not happening reliably; any ideas? Update: whenever I get the menu problem with dynamic templates, I also seem to get a broken page (in Chrome, IE, etc) with simple templates - see second screenshot. Does anyone having this issue?

  Today i work through a theme to get a better understanding of wordpress and templating. I discovered this <?php printf( __('Designed by %s', 'Anyword'), '<a href="http://www.blub.tld" target="_blank">Blub</a>', '' ); ?> I know it shows "Designed by Blub" (Where Blub is linked) But what does the __ mean or why is there a string insert? • google analytics - real-time user stats vs audience overview user stats

  When looking at the real-time analytics reporting for our app, it shows around 150-180 users, say around 10AM (our peak usage time). When I look at the Audience Overview report for the same day (hourly breakdown), the number of users shown for the 10AM hour is over 1000. I'm sure this has to do with some sort of aggregation, but I would like to know more about how these two numbers are calculated in order to understand it.

I've already tried to use x10hosting and 000webhosting, but they don't support utf8 mysql queries (got mojibake). The default encoding of mysql in both sites is latin-1, and you're not able to change that. Is there any other free host that fully supports utf-8?

If I register the domain at other top level domain names (eg. example.co.uk, example.nor etc.) and then just mirror the .com site to those other domains, will I be penalised by search engines for having duplicate content? Has anyone else faced a similar problem and found a way to capture the global search engine? Thanks.

• Google analytics - drop in traffic

  Bit of a general question here. We are in the process of converting a number of our clients from older web sites to new ones. The problem we are getting, and sorry for being so general here, is we are getting a sharp decline in traffic as reported on Google Analytics. It's not a gradual decline, it seems to hit almost as soon as the new site goes live. I've just got a few questions to see if there is something we are doing wrong: a) We are using the same analytics accounts going from old to new site. Is this a bad idea? b) The actual analytics code is integrated into the pages using a server-side include. IS this a bad idea? c) We structure our sites differently to our old site. IE. The old sites would pretty must have all the web pages in the root directory, and hyperlinks would be linked to the page files: EG. <a href="somepage.aspx">Link</a> Our new sites now have a directory structure that pretty much reflects the navigation structure, and hyper links link to the pages directory instead of the actual page: EG. <a href="/new-items/shoes/">New shoes</a> Is this a bad idea. I'm really searching for a needle in a haystack here. Would appriciate any help or advice as to why we are getting such a sharp and sudden drop in traffic. Again, so this is such a general question. • Pointing domain away from google

  I've already asked this question on google apps support, didnt fet an answer yet, and I am in a bit of a hurry. Need to have that website up by monday. Question: We have a domain registered at 101domain, we used a domain just for google apps, for email, and some services, and domain was never used for website. Now we pointed domain to the local hosting service, set everything like it should be, and pointed back to google from hosting service for gmail and gmail works perfectly. Problem is that we tried to set up a website at hosting service but domain still points to google apps login. Everything looks like it should, we recently bought 2 more domains that are set up the same (we use google apps on them too), the only difference tha I can think of is that we didn't use for apps first. Could this be because CNAME lags behind DNS server change?

• Page Load Time - "Waiting on..." taking ages. What part of page request process is hung?

  I have a new cluster site running on Magento that's on a development server that is made up of 2 x web servers and 1 x database server. I have optimized the site in all areas I know (gzip, increasing php memory limits, increasing database memory limits etc) but sometimes the page loading gets stuck on 'waiting for xxx.xx.xx.xxx' (Chrome and other broswers, chrome just shows it that way). It can sit there for 40 + seconds, sometimes it just never loads and I close it in frustration. What part of the page loading process is this hung at? Is it a server issue, database issue, platform issue? I need to know where to start or whether to push the hosting provider about it.

After that i have tried: v=spf1 include:_spf.google.com ~all as described in http://support.google.com/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=178723 but I still get the same result. How can I solve this and prevent "via server" showing?

  this may be kind of an odd question. My friend has challenged me. So somehow, he change the "port" of his site to 31337. If you just go to domain.com, you get redirected to google, to access the real site you go to domain.com:31337. He is going to change it again and he is challenging me to find out which port it is. • Using another domain with Google App Engine

  I'm trying to change my google app engine domain (domain.appspot.com) to the domain I bought from 1&1.com (mydomain.com). I went into the google app engine settings and added the domain. After making a Google Apps account, I was asked to verify my domain. The directions say that 1&1 doesn't allow me to create TXT records, so I can't use that method for verification. Their alternative is to upload an HTML file to my server, but I didn't buy hosting with my domain, I just bought the domain. My files are on domain.appspot.com. How can I make mydomain.com point to domain.appspot.com? I've added the ns1.googleghs.com as my nameservers in my 1&1 DNS settings, but I still can't verify my domain with Google Apps.

• Will Google crawl session based website

  I have a website, it is split into 3 categories but using PHP its an all-in one kind of style. When a user chooses a category on the home page a session is set, this is then used to set the style and contents of the website. Would Googlebot and other bots be able to still scan my website? If a page is accessed and no session is set then the user is sent back to the home page. I have created special links, that set a session but go straight to the contact page. Even this page doesn't seem to be showing up. Any ideas if a sitemap with specially crafted links (to set the session) will help Google?

  I migrated my WordPress blog to a new server, and everything seemed to be working fine until it started giving me the error when entering the admin area: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4864 bytes) in /home/neworder/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php on line 729 The line 729 has: $protected = array( '_wp_attached_file', '_wp_attachment_metadata', '_wp_old_slug', '_wp_page_template' ); I had installed the maintenance-mode, and I have suspicions that this is what broke the forum. If I remove the plugin it then gives another error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 19456 bytes) in /home/neworder/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 1158 And that line has: $content .= '<p class="hide-if-no-js">' . esc_html__( 'Remove featured image' ) . '</p>'; } I tried to restore the blog file-system from the old server and also to restore the database from the old server (2x), but still it gives me the same error.   Use Case: Photos are organised in a folder structure by date (by software lightroom/picasa) Want to run a local webserver to host a web gallery from (already know how to run lamp etc) I want to be able to attach metadata to the photos (probably through a database not residing in the photos folder) such that they can be tagged/categoried/albumed without affecting the original photos I want to be able to assign permissions to different albums to set users I want the software to watch the photo source folder for changes so that new photos are indexed ready for applying metadata and albums. I'd like the software to handle the rendering of numerous file types (photo formats) as well as video formatts I am language agnostic so php/python heck even c#, just want software that forfills the requirements. The main reason I am asking this question here as I am unsure what this software would even be called so google searching is quite difficult! Thanks for reading.

• Not allowed to upload .HTML files to my own DNN Site: Is it normal?

  My Question: Our webhost provider wont make it so we can upload .html files to our DNN site trhough the DNN File Manager page. Is that normal, should I push them to allow me to do this? We have recently transferred our website to a Dot Net Nuke run website. We originally had our website on a Linux server with Python scripts handling the backend. Obviously we now have a Windows server running .NET with ASP .NET code on the backend. Our webhost is a local Australian company. And they are saying we cant upload any .html files to the main part of the server, ie, www.ourdomain.com/Portals/0/. They are saying that the only place I can upload .html files is via FTP to this folder *www.ourdomain.com/Portals/0/html_content* This is a major problem for me because I am trying to upload my own skin which means I need to upload a main.html file to www.ourdomain.com/Portals/0/skins/myskin/ but they wont let me?! I guess what I am asking is, is this normal practice, why would they not allow this? As an experienced web admin for Linux servers and as someone who is used to being able to do whatever I want on my OWN server this is someing that really pis$%s me off!

• How do I change pages registering as 404 to 200

  I have this problem. After relaunching my site: http://www.kgstiles.com, traffic dropped immensely(about 60%). After troubleshooting for a week and a half - losing thousands of dollars off of lost traffic in the process, I found that Google was getting a 404 error at the end of many of my 301 redirects(so it wouldn't index the new pages). Most of of the pages, though, would register in my browser. They registered as a 404 error in Google's index as well as a 404checker. So my first question is: could this be what's causing my loss of traffic? and second: how do I fix it? I'm desperate!
