  Can someone please help me in using WEBMIN to setup virtual hosts. My current domain www.MYDOMAINLOLFAKE.com currently functions. Settings are as follows - Apache - Handles the name-based server www.MYDOMAINLOLFAKE.com on all addresses Address Any Port 80 Server Name www.MYDOMAINLOLFAKE.com Document Root /var/www/html BIND DNS Server - Master Zone MYDOMAINLOLFAKE.com ns1.mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE - works ns2.mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE - works mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE - works www.mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE -works mail.mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE - works ftp.mydomainlolfake.com IPHERE - works What I need - something.mydomainlolfake.com -- CANT GET THIS TO WORK What I tried - Create new virtual host Handles the name-based server something.mydomainlolfake.com on something.mydomainlolfake.com Address Any Port 81 Document Root: /var/www/vhosts/something What happens - I create the new VHOST and then ALL address try to go to that new Document root. • How do I run Cisco Packet Tracer 6.0.1?

  I have a problem running Packet tracer 6.0.1 on Ubuntu 13.04. I have a downloaded file from Cisco Netspace - this file had not extension. I added the extension tar.gz to this file and I could unpack it to a location with other folders and files, there was a file install too. This was a .bin file and I used sudo chmod +x on this file and I used ./filename and installation has been launched I had to accept licence and so on. After successfully installation I tried to launch Packet Tracer and nothing happened. Please help me, how can I correctly install and run Packet Tracer. Note that I'm new in using Linux.

Its focus is on combining the power and high performance of C and C++ with the programmer productivity of modern languages like Ruby and Python. Special attention is given to the needs of quality assurance, documentation, management, portability and reliability. Do you think it has got a future? I really would like to try it but somehow the thought that I'm the only person on earth programming D discourages me to try it.

• DDD / Layers and legacy systems

  I have to refactor a complex C# app (many dialogs, mixed logic and so on). There is a part managing the communication with special hardware equipments (sending commands and receive data via asynchronous c# callbacks). The code is "spaghetti" with mixed UI/Logic/Communication/etc and my task is to split the layers in a DDD sense. So, to which layer belongs a callback driver routine? The callbacks are creating "bubbles" in the system, up to the UI layer and because of this I cannot enforce the essential principle that any element of a layer depends only on other elements in the same layer or on elements of the layers "beneath" it. • 11.10 had sound, 12.04 doesnt. Acer Aspire One D257

  I'm wondering if anyone else has had this same problem, because if so it might be worth while for me to file a bug, but it might also be chaos monkey so I wanted to check first. I have an Acer Aspire One D257 and the sound worked in 11.10 by default, but after doing a fresh install of 12.04 there is no sound. There used to be a speaker icon on the menu bar but now there isn't, and volume up and volume down hotkeys now do nothing, which leads me to believe it isn't detecting the sound card properly anymore. Googling for sound problems on an Acer Aspire One D257 on 12.04 isn't showing any helpful results, so I'm wondering if it's just me. Does anyone have an AAO D257 on 12.04 with the sound working, and if so did you have to do anything special to make it work?

• How do I keep the Thunderbird profile in sync between multiple computers?

  I'd like to find a definitive solution to automatically keep my Thunderbird profile in sync between my laptop and my desktop computer. I'm using IMAP, so keeping the e-mail itself in sync is not an issue I can use Ubuntu One for the contacts, so that should not be an issue, either. However, there are a bunch of other files and folders in the Thunderbird profile, and I'm not sure which ones I should keep in sync and which ones I shouldn't bother about. Ideally, I'd like to use Ubuntu One to mark the required ones for syncing, but I would appreciate any help in deciding which ones exactly need to be synced.

• Consistency vs. Usability?

  When designing an API, consistency often aids usability. However, sometimes they conflict where an extra API feature can be added to streamline a common case. It seems like there's somewhat of a divide over what to do here. Some designs (the Java standard library come to mind) favor consistency even if it makes common cases more verbose. Others (the Python standard library comes to mind) favor usability even if it means treating the common case as "special" to make it easier. What is your opinion on how consistency and usability should be balanced?

• How do I accomplish fading texture trails in UDK?

  I would like to know how to leave a fading texture/material trail in udk. For example (I'm not sure if there is a special name for this effect): A character may leave footprints that fade after x number of seconds Or, a tank may leave a tracks trail as in Civilization IV. • Dropbox icon dissapears right after login

  Even though Dropbox's app indicator dissapearing from the tray area seems like a recurrent enough problem, my issue is a litte different. When I login, I can see the app panel populating, and the dropbox icon does indeed appear (config'd as startup application), but after some other icons show up (bluetooth, battery, etc.) it's gone. It's still running though. I'm guessing it's having issues with staying pinned, and I don't know how to start addressing this problem. I have tried many if not all solutions provided here in the forums for the "icon missing" questions. So far: I've whitelisted everything regarding panel Uninstalled-reinstalled (with and without rebooting in between) Overwritten current installation Purged installation from terminal Installed from Software Center and from .deb file batch deleted every "dropbox" ocurrences from terminal (files and folders) and reinstalled Ran sudo apt-get install libappindicator1, it installed, but didn't solve anything I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS - 64 bits. Any insight would me much appreciated!

• Why can't I get to a shared folder from Windows

  I want to access a folder on my new Ubuntu 12.10 box from any machine on my network without the need to provide credentials. My machine name is Ubuntu1 I have a 2TB disk that formatted NTFS that has media on it The mount point is mount1 I have numerous folders on the disk and I want to share each of them individually I have enabled folder1 and folder2 for sharing I have enabled shared access, Allow others to create and delete files in this folder and guest access is allowed. The folder icon now has arrows so I assume all is good. From windows I can see under network Ubuntu1folder1 Ubuntu1folder2 When I click to open the folder from windows I get the error "You cannot access \Ubuntu1\folder1 You do not have permission to access \Ubuntu1\folder1 I have them both on the same workgroup. Your assistance would be appreciated

• Need multiple sound outputs to multiple speakers

  How do I play 3 different music tracks at the same time on my computer, such that song1 is played in speaker1, song2 in speaker2... Is this possible programatically? What additional hardware will I need? Do I need 3 seperate sound cards? Given that the hardware is in place, how would I "route" the sound output for a particular song to a particular speaker. Alternatively, is there a special hardware that can handle multiple inputs and outputs? Appreciate your expert opinions.

  I need to run a few perl scripts from a Java GUI application. I am using Runtime API to do that. However, few of the perl scripts need to run under a specific user account to have special credentials to access specialized resources (e.g. Database, Files). I have heard of alleviating user access using UAC. But till now I am not able to find the solution. Please help me on how to run a process under a different user login. Is there anything similar to c# impersonization in Java?

• Can I use a desktop as a network server?

  Pardon me if I'm asking the wrong question. But I am a newbie in networking and I'm not sure what direction to go on this. I have just setup an Ubuntu Desktop. I am planning to convert it to a network server without losing the GUI interface (again, I'm a newbie) and use it to manage and monitor user access to a network with a small number of network terminals all running on Windows. My purpose is to use the new server to filter sites accessed by each terminals, monitor sites being visited by employees and grant access to both group and user-specific folders based on their IP address. Is this possible? What server software do I need to install? How do I structure the hardware? (I have a router, a hub, the Ubuntu server and the network terminals) How do I assign privileges to users and monitor them at the same time? Thank you in advance for your replies.

• Auto completion (using the Tab key) on the new Ubuntu 11.10

  Earlier, when I used tab to auto-complete filenames (using the tab key) and if the filenames contained blank spaces or certain special characters, the name would be listed with backslashes '\' thrown in so that it could work with a preceding command like ls or rm. eg. Earlier if I had a file name called "The Four Seasons- Spring - Allegro.mp3" and this was the only file name starting with "The", when I typed "rm The" and Tab, it would complete itself to "rm The\ Four\ Seasons-\ Spring\ -\ Allegro.mp3" and I could subsequently press Enter and remove the file. However, lately what happens when I press Tab is the following: "rm The Four Seasons- Spring - Allegro.mp3" and if I now press Enter, it returns a bunch of errors because it thinks I want to remove a bunch of files (named The, Four, etc.). Does anyone else encounter the same problems and if yes, is there a good way to resolve this problem? Thanks!

• Bring the Windows 8 'Start Menu' back!

  I've been using the the Windows 8 RTM from MSDN for a week but the more of my normal software I load onto the machine the more awkward it becomes using the new 'Metro' (yes I know that name is now not used) 'Start' screen. Yes, you can oraganise your programs in groups, or you can add them to the Quick Launch bar, or you can create alphabetic folders on the desktop but sorry Microsoft, none of these are as logical as the alphabetic Start menu of previous Windows versions.Fortunately the good people at Stardock have a solution in 'Start8', which brings the Start Menu we know and love back to Windows 8. It's still in Beta and the current one runs out in October. I'm looking forward to the final release and like lots of other users, I'll be happy to pay for this.Lets hope Microsoft either reinstate the Start Menu in the first service pack or gives us a usable alternative. • Make Apache encode or replace quotes instead of escaping them?

  In the dcoumentation I read Format Notes For security reasons, starting with version 2.0.46, non-printable and other special characters in %r, %i and %o are escaped using \xhh sequences, where hh stands for the hexadecimal representation of the raw byte. Exceptions from this rule are " and \, which are escaped by prepending a backslash, and all whitespace characters, which are written in their C-style notation (\n, \t, etc). In versions prior to 2.0.46, no escaping was performed on these strings so you had to be quite careful when dealing with raw log files. This is a problem for Analog which is still the handiest analyser I use. I get .... "GET /somerequest?q=\"quoted string\"&someparm=bla" in the logfile and it is of course flagged as corrupt since Analog expects .... "GET /somerequest?q=%22quoted string%22&someparm=bla" or similar. I realise I can pre-process using something like perl -p -i.bak -e 's/\\"/%22/g' logfile But I'd rather not have to add this step to these files which are 50-90MB zipped per day Thanks for any pointers
