• viewing fbx files in windows via xna 4.0

  I've made some models in Blender and exported them in Autodesk fbx format. I'm trying to view them using XNA 4.0 Refresh. Loading them isn't much an issue, but I'm not familiar enough with XNA 4.0 to, well basically I want to load in the model at say the origin (0,0,0) world coordinates, and then rotate and/or zoom the camera about the world coordinates origin as well so that I can test the model. Typically the mouse, and maybe some arrow keys for zooming/rotating the camera. Anyways, this seems like a simple task and I shouldn't have to re-invent this, isn't there a skeleton code somewhere for this kind of thing for XNA 4.0? I couldn't find a solid example for this on the web. I found a couple that seemed like they might work for xbox, but I'm trying to do this on windows only. Anyways, just looking to be pointed in the right direction on this one, thanks.

  I've just started a programming job where I'm applying my 'How to code' knowledge to what I'm being taught of 'How to Program' (They are different!). As well of this I'm taught how to capture requirements from clients, so as to start a new project. How do I do this for a nebulous personal project? I say nebulous, as I often find halfway through programming something, I want to expand what my program will do, or alter the result. Eventually I'm tangled in code, and have to restart. This can be frustrating and off putting. Conversely when given a fixed task, and fixed requirements, it's much easier to programme from a - b. So how do I plan a personal programming project?

  We need to generate a release in 3 weeks, and for the planning we are doing today we don't have coherent logical user stories from the backlog tasks. Is valid to match say each development task is equivalent to an user story? Methodologically what is the correct way of handling this?, because anyway we are going to have standup meetings and we are going to control the progress of the project against those development tasks. • Is someone aware of any multi threaded unrar program?

  I was searching in the past (past few weeks) for a program/software which is multithreaded and it is able to extract rarparts using multi threading. What software's i've already tried? unrar, unrar-nonfree, rar, 7zip It seemed to me that none of them is multi threaded and therefore they are all slow. The solution would be needed in cli format so if not necessary the no gui. Is someone aware of something like this? • What's the best way to add some particle or laser effects to an already animated character?

  I just purchased some rigged and animated robot characters from 3drt for a game I'm making in unity. I would like to be able to add some weapon effects to the characters. For example, I would like for the robots to be able to shot lasers out of the hands at enemies. I have know idea where to even start with this task as I'm more of a programmer than a graphics guy. • Where to start for writing a simple java IDE?

  I would like to start working on my own custom IDE. The biggest reason I want to work on the IDE is to help me gain an even greater, more intimate understanding of java (and other languages I add into it.) I don't want to do anything super fancy or revolutionary, I'd be happy if I could create something as compact as the BlueJ IDE I used in high school and be content.   So what I wanted to do. comperes(7zip) and split 600MB folder into 199MB parts but sadly when I tried to do this task with archive manager it gave me an error, but I know that if I use terminal it will work. I looked this up in askubuntu and found out about this commend 7z a -v5m -mx0 ubuntu.7z I understand that v5m will split it to 5 mb parts and -mx0 means that it will not comperes it but I want it to comperes so what should I write instead of this -mx0 pleas note: I am using .7zip because I most probably will use this file on windows pc thank you in advanced

• Problems running Ubuntu 12.10 in VMWare Player 5

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu 12.10 in VMWare Player 5. My pc is running Windows 7. The installation seems to go okay, but when I boot up ubuntu, although it starts up and I see the desktop, I can't see any task bar or basically anything other than the default wallpaper in the background. When I move my cursor across the screen towards the edges, the desktop flickers and extremely distorted and pixelated objects appear momentarily. I've tried uninstalling everything, downloading it all again and reinstalling, but I get the exact same problem. Does anyone recognise this issue? Is there a more stable pairing than Ubuntu 12.10 & WMWare Player 5.0.1, perhaps?

If I supply username as root to create my VMs, am I creating/enabling the root user, or just creating a user named as root? p.s.: any better ways to achieve my task are also welcome. But I don't want to manually meddle with each VM after its creation

• Really weird situation with Swap that refuses to work

  So I decide to move my Swap partition to another HDD to make hibernation more fast, I create a partition with a liveUSB, do swapon, and then hibernate just disappears I go into the terminal, reactivate hibernate (so the button shows) for some reason the swap wasn't "on" so I do swapon again. Still not working. I go back to the terminal and edit the file with the UUID of the new swap partition. The partition shows as swap on gparted, it's on, the file has the right UUID, even the task manager shows a swap area of 10GB, and there is a hibernate button on the shutdown window. But it-wont-hibernate! What's going on?

• Ubuntu doesn't start and I can't login

  My ubuntu 13.04 doesn't boot anymore. Eternal black screen. If I press ALT+CTRL+F1 I see that it's stucked on "Checking battery state [OK]." I'd like to try to go with sudo apt-get install gdm but I can't login on terminal tty2, tty3 etc. They correctly ask for my nickname, then they make me wait a lot, ask for password and make me wait again. After a lot of time (... a lot) the best I could achieve was visualizing "Documentantion https://help.ubuntu.com". I can never reach the point where I can give commands. Plus, during the long pauses, every 2 minutes it gives a messagge like this: INFO: task XXX blocked for more than 120 seconds. Any suggestion? Sorry for my bad english and thanks everyone for the attention.

The website is lacking any documentation or usage instructions, and I could not find any information on this here as well. I tried, naturally, to start ubuntu-tweak from the command line, hoping additional API exists that will come through in this (allegedly) simple task. I only got as far as: ubuntu-tweak -f janitor which is a step in the right direction, but what's still missing is a command for the clear action. Is such a command available, or is there any better way of achieving the desired behavior?

• Is there an AIR native extension to use GameCenter APIs for turn-based games?

  I'm planning a turn based game using the iOS 5 GameCenter (GameKit) turn-based functions. Ideally I would program the game with AIR (I'm a Flash dev), but so far I can't seem to find any already available native extension that offers that (only basic GameCenter functions), so my questions are: Does anyone know if that already exists? And secondly how complex a task would it be to create an extension that does that? Are there any pitfalls I should be aware of etc.? ** UPDATE ** There does not seem a solution to the above from Adobe. For anyone who is interested check out the Adobe Gaming SDK. It contains a Game Center ANE which I've read contains options for multiplayer but not turn-based multiplayer, at least it's a start. Comes a bit late for me as I've already learned Obj-c!

I am writing my games for mobile platforms in C++, so the engine should be C or C++. I need a fast engine, since mobile platforms have limited resources. I need a free engine. A good design would be nice to have too. What engine is best suited for my task? What I really would like to hear from you is your direct experience.   Hi, at the moment, I am trying to learn upstart and can't get around a basic problem. To monitor what my job definitions are doing, I would like to see text output from the jobs. That does not seem to be possible when I am logged on via SSH. Currently, I am having this problem with Natty 11.04, but I am convinced that it is a more common one. Probably I just don't know about some important, yet very basic, fact. • How should I organize my matrices in a 3D game engine?

  I'm working with a group of people from around the world to create a game engine (and hopefully a game with it) within the next upcoming years. My first task is to write a camera class for the engine to use in order to add cameras to the scene, with position and follow points. The problem I have is with using matrices for transformations in the class, should I keep matrices separate to each class? Such as have the model matrix in the model class, camera matrix in the camera class, or have all matrices placed in one class/chuck? I could see pros and cons for each method, but I wanted to hear some input form a more professional standpoint.
