• Windows 7 - ICS - Xbox360

  I am trying to connect my xbox360 to the internet through ICS using my laptop. I have done this a few days ago using the exact same hardware(so no hardware problems) The laptop can browse the internet. The laptop gets its settings though DHCP. I have enabled ICS on the Wireless connection (where the internet is coming from) I have set the xbox and the Wired connection on the laptop to obtain settings automatically. The issue is that the Wired connection only shows 'Unidentified Network'. What could i be doing wrong?

• Cross subnet connection

  My internal Windows 2008 AD network is 172.20.xxx.xxx My Apple Wireless base stations only allows DHCP 172.16.xxx.xxx Private IP address ranges: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.255.255 The problem: The internet works from my IPad that has a 172.16.xxx.xxx address, but I can't access (browse) my tools server that is 172.20.xxx.xxx that host my Filemaker database. Is it possible to add 172.16.xxx.xxx range somewhere in DHCP or DNS on my Windows domain server so I can access tools? Or is there another way to make this connection work? Thanks

• Firestarted Blocking DHCP?

  Alright so on my Ubuntu laptop I get a wireless internet signal, and then distribute it to a switch where my other computers are connected. I also have Firestarter installed on the laptop. I have a problem where the only way that one of my client computers try to get an IP and such from my laptop, it can't because Firestarter is blocking it somehow. I have to stop the firewall in Firestarter, then connect from a client. It connects right away, then I turn Firestarter back on. In the preferences there is an option in "Firewall" called "Start/restart firewall on DHCP lease", but if I have that checked or not doesn't make a difference. So, what can I do to fix this? Its kinda annoying to have to do this whenever I have to connect to the internet. Thanks!

• small Windows network w/ printer issue

  printer 1 connected to the desktop printer 2 connected to the same desktop that desktop is connected via Cat 5 to a wireless router a notebook is connected to that same router via WiFi The desktop Control Panel has just been reconfigured to share printers. (I assume this means that the desktop will now allow a notebook coming through the router to be able to access the two printers that are presently hooked up via the desktop--am I correct? Is that what it means?) The desktop can still print to either printer. It is presently okay. This notebook/printer relationship is a new configuration. The notebook, however, can't print at all (yet it can access the internet just fine). Any suggestions for it to be able to access the printers and be able to print via the desktop via the router? • How do I make my play/pause keyboard button work correctly in iTunes 10 on Windows?

  First and foremost, I have mmKeys installed correctly. My iTunes works almost perfect while minimized to the tray. My problem is with the play/pause button on my Wireless Comfort Keyboard 5000. When iTunes does not have focus (like it's minimized, or if it isn't the application I'm active in, like right now while typing this) the play pause button toggles twice. So, I'll push the pause button - and the song that is playing will pause, but a split second later will start up again. If the song is paused, and I push play, the song will immediately pause again. In order to get the key to work correctly, I must give iTunes focus, and then push the button.   Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a printer for home use and I'm not sure which one to get. I'm not very good when it comes to printers. Here's what I'm looking for: cheap (least $ per page) good quality (last longest, any specific brands to avoid?) not heavy printing (let's say ~5 pages per week) OK quality (I don't need "the best". • Both screens always stay on after adding second monitor

  I had a single 1920x1080 monitor on a Windows 7 desktop PC and, per "power management" (not screen saver), the screen would go blank after 10 minutes. I added another monitor (2560x1600 if that matters) and since then, neither screen has ever blanked. I've tried turning on the "blank" screen saver, but that didn't help either -- I can go away for hours and when I come back, both screens are on. I've seen others with similar issues apparently caused by e.g. wireless mice that seem to move infinitesimally, but I've got the same wired mouse I had before. I can't understand why neither the screen saver nor power management is doing what it should to blank the screens, when "power management" used to do it when there was only one monitor. Maybe it doesn't matter so much with current LCD display technology (no "burn in") but doesn't a monitor use more power when "power management" hasn't turned off the display? • Server IP must be a LAN IP (Port Forwarding Netgear)

  I'm trying to set up a server (Apache) on my computer (fairly new to it). As I understand it, for it to be accessible to other computers, I need to forward port 80. When I try to forward the port though, I get the error: Server IP must be a LAN IP. I noticed in ipconfig that my default gateway is different than my wireless router. My computer is not hardwired, not on WiFi. Furthermore, I do not, at this point, have a static IP. I read that it should still work with a dynamic IP until it changes. Any ideas on what I can do?

• Configure browser and VPN traffic

  Hello everyone. I've been having a few issues with my company's VPN server. The VPN is running on a Mac Server (10.6.x) and I'm also using a Macbook (10.6.5). I've been building specific programs to gather information from IPs, and to work on this while I'm at home I need to go through our VPN to access the network. Unless I send all traffic over VPN, I'm not able to hit those specific IPs. However, I'm unable to access the internet through my web browser when I send all my traffic over VPN. I was wondering if there was a way (besides setting up a split tunnel) that I could set up a web browser to go through my current wireless connection, as opposed to going through the VPN like the rest of my applications. Wether the browser be Chrome, Firefox, or Safari doesn't matter to me. Anyone else run into this issue and find a clever way to solve it? Thank you!

  I am having some trouble with (I suspect) my wireless router. It's connected to the internet with a regular lan cable and has a static, public IP address. Our two home PCs connect to the router with regular lan cables, plus there's a laptop which connects over wifi. diagram: Internet | | <- isp-supplied cat5 ethernet cable | D-Link D300 ...wifi... laptop / \ / <- cable -> \ PC1 PC2 The PCs and laptop are behind NAT and share the router's public IP. The router is a D-Link D300. PC1 is used for online gaming and I'm experiencing frequent "connection dropped" errors when playing Battlefield 3, StarCraft 2 and the Diablo 3 beta; but not with TeamFortress 2 or the Tribes Ascend beta. The issue goes away when I remove the router and connect PC1 directly to the ISP's cable. I have also tried disconnecting PC2 and the laptop, leaving PC1 as the only machine connected to the router - doesn't help. How can I diagnose what precisely the issue is?

• Spoof MAC address in Windows 7: Bypass

  I am trying to spoof the MAC address of my new Win7 laptop. To do so I tried specifying an alternate value from the Device Manager which took no effect. I also tried from the registry, as per other threads here, to no avail. Interestingly I also found the registry contained a path 000X\Ndi\params\NetworkAddress\default REG_SZ, but changing that had no effect either :( I can only guess I share the same issue here: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2096480 as the wireless adaptor is the same brand bundled with the same operating system. So my question is - is there anything better I can do to achieve a spoofed physical address than rollback the drivers to some older version?

• Windows 7 Intermittent Connection Issues (Continuously "identifying")

  I have an issue solely with my desktop windows 7 machine on my network (the network has multiple different devices, on the same and different operating systems) and the issue is that irregularly, although sometimes frequently, I briefly get disconnected from the internet (briefly is for around 5-10 seconds). However, I never loose the bars on the wifi thing, eg I don't get the yellow triangle, but it goes to the identifying stage and then reconnects. The reason I noticed the problem was when I was streaming music it would stop and I would refresh the page and it would start working again ( turned out it was because it took that amount of time to get connected again). So my question is, what would cause the intermittent issues and start the "identifying" process again. I don't think its my router, because no one else is having problems, so the other option is that its a problem specifically with my machine. I'm connecting to a Netgear DG834GT router, and I'm using a Edimax Wireless-N150 USB Adapter. Anyone have any ideas?

• No Drivers in Ubuntu 9.10

  I have a Lenovo G550 and I installed Ubuntu on it through Windows and I have no drivers. No sound, no wireless. I previously had installed it through Windows Vista with no problems at all. I now run Windows 7 and cannot seem to get it to function properly. I tried installing the recommended drivers to make sure the proper ones were installed and that still did nothing. Any one have ANY idea what could be happening? I just don't feel like dealing with it.

• D Link DSL G624T Router will work wirelessly but not via cable

  I have a D Link router which works in providing a wireless internet connection for my main PC and secondary notebook. I have been advised that the internet connection to the main pc will be better if I wire the router directly to the PC. I have tried this and can not get a connection. I just keep getting the message network cable unplugged. I have had the ethernet adaptor checked out on the pc and the cable is good ( also checked out). Anything I can do or do I have a bad router. • Can't access to access to my web server inside a network with Firewall on

  I set up a Web server with the following: There is the Internet Router, configured to Port Foward port 80 to my computer assigned to my PC's IP: 192.168.1.128 My PC is connected to that wireless router from wlan0 Then, my PC is also connected to my device (which is the webserver) with a crossover-cable usign eth0 having this anohter IP: 10.42.43.1 Finally, my device (the webserver) is connected with eth0 with this IP: 10.42.43.55 As you can see, I need to install a reverse-proxy to be able to resolve to my device's webserver. I installed pound (proxy server) in my PC and configured properly to make 192.168.1.128 resolve to 10.42.43.55 So, I just typing my ISP provided IP 200.x.x.x resolves to my device webserver. But there's a problem: I HAD TO STOP MY FIREWALL. I don't know how I need exactly configure the firewall in SUSE YAST2, or at least iptables. Stopping it is not an option, not for security reasons, just because there's port fowarding rule that is needed to give Internet access to my device too. I'm using openSUSE 12.1

• Can't access the Internet in VMware Workstation

  I'm using VMware 7.1.2 in Windows 7 with Ubuntu 11.04 as a guest OS. In the host OS (Windows 7), I can access the Internet without any problems but in the virtual machine I can't access the Internet. I've tried the following but with no success: Use all methods of connecting to the Internet in "Virtual Machine Settings": Bridged, NAT, Custom; none work. Used cabled and wireless connections on the PC - neither of them work. I've used Ubuntu in VMware for several months - previously the Internet was always accessible. Could the cause of this be because I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04?

• Best way to "stream" music / video to my HDTV from my pc?

  My requirement is simple: I have a laptop and a desktop at home that I often use for various media (music, videos etc.) and I want to know what the best (quickest, most seamless, best quality etc) solution for sending this media to my HDTV (and connected sound system). An example would be I'm listening to some music from youtube on my laptop in my living room and want to quickly send it to my tv (which has a sound system) so that I don't have to listen to it through my laptop. • How can I connect a wired PC to the internet through my Macs wifi connection?

  So I'll probably be buying a USB wifi adapater if I can't get this to work, but I'm trying. I have a wireless router at home and my Macbook Pro is connected to said wifi. My desktop doesn't have a wifi connection, but I've connected my macbook with my desktop via crossover cable. I enabled internet sharing on my macbook, but my Windows 7 desktop can't get a connection. I tried just regular file sharing and that works fine, but the internet sharing doesn't. I assume the goal is to get my PC to see my mac as the default gateway, but I've had no luck manually setting it. • Windows 7 Desktop as Bluetooth Mixer

  I would like to stream all the audio from my Droid X2 to my desktop running Windows 7 via bluetooth. When I pair the two devices I can make this work but the audio plays through the internal speakers. I am actually wanting to listen to everything through a pair of bluetooth headphones. The end result would be that I could listen to music from my phone but easily pause it to listen to audio from the desktop instead. So far I have not had any luck. I thought about connecting the line out to the line in so I could monitor the line in from my headphones. My current setup is wiring the phone to the line in and then monitoring the line in through the headphones. I'm just wanting to eliminate the wire and go wireless the whole way. Is there something in Windows that prevents it from taking an inbound audio stream and sending it out another device?

  When I log into Windows 7 I need to wait 10 seconds and then disable the Local Area Connection (ethernet adaptor) and then reenable it. I have looked through the suggested answer: Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file but that seems irrelevant as it just toggles the current state. From what I can tell I need to include: netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" DISABLED netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED but I'm unsure of the wait time or how I can have this start after Windows has successfully logged in. What's the best approach here?

  I would like to set a network connection as metered. I can't find how to do this; it seems to have changed in the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. I tried following the steps in the official metered connection FAQ. However, when I open the connection, there is no Data Usage heading nor a Set as a metered connection option. • Ubuntu 10.4 No internet

  I have Ubuntu 10.4 dual booted with Windows Vista on a work Lenovo R61 laptop. The home and work wireless connection were working fine. I lost all internet connection at work. The IT guy clearly knew nothing about Linux. Since he 'fixed' it get nothing, no wlan signal the Network manager icon was gone, no internet. I still have the live disc and if I run from the live disc the connections are there and everything works perfectly. How do I restore the internet easily on my laptop. I have been using Linux for 3 Years but I am still a bit of a newbie, this is the first major problem I've had in three years. It's driving me nuts. Thanks
