There is no two finger scroll option in my "Mouse and Touchpad" settings

I simply do not have the option for "two-finger scrolling" available in my "Mouse and Touchpad" settings. I have tried a lot of terminal commands that I have found in the forums with no success. SSMS hanging without error when connecting to SQL

Scary day for me last Thursday. I had gone up to Brisbane, and was due to speak at the Queensland SQL User Group on Thursday night. Unfortunately, disaster struck about an hour beforehand. Nothing to do with the recent floods (although we were meeting in a different location because of them). It was actually down to the fact that I’d been fiddling with my machine to get Virtual Server running on Windows 7, and SQL had finally picked up a setting from then. I could run Management Studio, but it couldn’t connect at all. No error, it just seemed to hang. One of the things you have to do to get Virtual Server installed is to tweak the Group Policy settings. I’d used gpupdate /force to get Windows to pick up the new setting, which allowed me to get Virtual Server running properly, but at the time, SQL was still using the previous settings. Finally when in Brisbane, my machine picked up the new settings, and caused me pain. Dan Benediktson describes the situation. If the SQL client picks up the wrong value out of the GetOverlappedResult API (which is required for various changes in Windows 7 behaviour), then Virtual Server can be installed, but SQL Server won’t allow connections. Yay. Luckily, it’s easy enough to change back using the Group Policy editor (gpedit.msc). Then restarting the machine (again!, as gpupdate /force didn’t cut it either, because SQL had already picked up the value), and finally I could reconnect. On Thursday I simply borrowed another machine for my talk. Today, one of my guys had seen and remembered Dan’s post. Thanks, both of you.

Variables in static library are never initialized. Why?

I have a bunch of variables that should be initialized then my game launches, but must of them are never initialized. I'm able to instantiate and configure components from scripts and auto-register them to the right system etc... The problem arrises when I create a static library (currently for the iPhone, but I fear it will happen with android as well). In that case the code in the .cpp files is never registered. Why is the resulting code not executed when it is in the library while the same code in the program's binary is always executed? Bonus questions: For this to work in the static library, what should I do? Is there something I am missing? Do I need to pass a flag when building the lib? Should I create another structure and init all the __registeredItem##className using that structure?

A new Ubuntu user here. I just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my gigabyte U24F laptop. At first the touch-pad (I believe it's elantech) was working fine but one day I turned it off using fn+f10 key from the keyboard. Booting into a live usb session, touchpad no longer even works in this case. (Does this mean a fresh install wouldn't even solve the problem?) Any help is greatly appreciated!

Synaptics drivers are not loading on Kubuntu 13.10 on Dell Vostro 2420

I freshly installed Kubuntu 13.10, 32 bit version on newly purchased Dell Vostro 2420. everything is working fine except scrolling and multitouch features through touchpad. starting up with VPS or cloud hosting? [closed]

Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? Summary: I want to start hosting my product. I'd like to register domains (at some point). I'm a linux beginner. Thinking about scalability and price, I'm thinking am I better off on a VPN to get started or would some form of cloud hosting be better (not being familiar with either). Full question: I'm creating a product where people can create their own 3D representations of whatever data / info they have, and (re)organise that data. The product is coming along beautifully on my local environment, but it's about time I start getting some form of hosting ready, and I could really use some advice where / how to get started: I'd like people to be able to move/register their own domains on my server. I could start without this just to demo the product, but it would be the very first on the todo list. I'd like to automatically copy some files / install databases etc for each domain. I probably want to see if I can let users manage their own subdomains at some points, but for now: I'd like start as simple as possible. I've always on a windows machine, so my linux experience is quite basic. I really don't mind getting into it, but I'm thinking it's better to get my product out first of all and see where to go from there. Although... I'd like things to be scalable. If I set up some reseller VPN now which only scales to 100 domains or so, which means I have to set up something else / move again when I pass that level, or which means that I'm in trouble if I suddenly get lots of new customers... hmm. Finally, I need to start cheap. I'm putting all I have into starting this company, and live on very little. So before I have any customers, 50 dollars a month is a fair bit and 100 dollars a month may be too much. If anyone has some tips to help get me started I'd be really grateful.

Ubuntu 13.04 under Parallels Desktop - Black Desktop after X Windows Update

I have been running Ubuntu 13.04 successfully on a MacBook Pro in a virtual machine in Parallels Desktop 9. Today (2013-10-17) after applying today's Ubuntu update, which included updates to X Windows, my Ubuntu 13.04 virtual machine launches, the launcher comes up, but the screen background is solid black, rather than the shaded orange colour of the default desktop background (and my desktop icons are "hidden behind this blackness", as well). I can launch applications from the launcher, and there is a very brief white flash on the screen, and then it returns to black. It's as if there is a "black blanket" covering the entire screen, so there is no way to interact with any application windows using the keyboard or mouse. The icons of the launcher are responsive to the mouse, so I can right-click and quit any application I have launched. But the rest of the screen is non-responsive to keyboard or mouse. This same behaviour happens with two different versions of Parallels Tools, so I am quite sure this is not a Parallels problem per se, although I could believe that it could be a paroblem with the interface between Parallels and this new updated X Windows code. Could anyone tell me what has happened, and how I might be able to fix this problem, so I can continue to use my Ubuntu 13.04 virtual machine? (I do have the option of reverting to a previous version of my virtual machine from before this update, but if possible I would prefer to keep my version of Ubuntu 13.04 up to date with the latest updates.) A couple of weeks back, a co-worker was pondering a situation he was facing. He was looking at the following class hierarchy: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { } Basically, the first 2 classes are abstract classes, but the OriginalBase class has Test implemented as a virtual method. What he needed was to force concrete class implementations to provide a proper body for the Test method, but he can’t do mark the method as abstract since it is already implemented in the OriginalBase class. One way to solve this is to hide the original implementation and then force further derived classes to properly implemented another method that will replace it. The code will look like the following: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { protected sealed override void Test() { Test2(); } protected abstract void Test2(); } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test2 here } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test2 here } With the above code, SecondaryBase class will seal the Test method so it can no longer be overridden. Then it also made an abstract method Test2 available, which will force the concrete classes to override and provide the proper implementation. Calling Test will properly call the proper Test2 implementation in each respective concrete classes. I was wondering if there’s a way to tell the compiler to treat the Test method in SecondaryBase as abstract, and apparently you can, by combining the abstract and override keywords. The code looks like the following: abstract class OriginalBase { protected virtual void Test() { } } abstract class SecondaryBase : OriginalBase { protected abstract override void Test(); } class FirstConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test here } class SecondConcrete : SecondaryBase { // Have to override Test here } The method signature makes it look a bit funky, because most people will treat the override keyword to mean you then need to provide the implementation as well, but the effect is exactly as we desired. The concepts are still valid: you’re overriding the Test method from its original implementation in the OriginalBase class, but you don’t want to implement it, rather you want to classes that derive from SecondaryBase to provide the proper implementation, so you also make it as an abstract method. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this before in the wild, so it was pretty neat to find that the compiler does support this case.

Cannot submit change of address to subdomain in Google Webmaster Tools?

I am pointing several domains to one URL, a URL which happens to include a subdomain. ALL of the domains are using 301 redirects to point to this new address. One of the older domains (which used to be a site) is a 'property' in Webmaster Tools, as is the new site (the one with the subdomain.) When registering a 'Change of Address' for the old site with WebmasterTools, it suggests the following method - Set up your content on your new domain. (done) Redirect content from your old site using 301 redirects. (done) Add and verify your new site to Webmaster Tools. (done) Then, directly below that, to proceed, it says Tell us the URL of your new domain: Your account doesn't contain any sites we can use for a change of address. Add and verify the new site, then try again. I have already submitted and verified the new site. The only reason I can fathom I am getting this error is because the new site includes a subdomain. Although I don't foresee getting punished for this, as I am correctly 301 redirecting traffic anyway, I'm curious as to why the Change of Address submission isn't working appropriately for me. Has anyone else had experience with this?

How can I configure the touchpad and keyboard settings on a Dell Inspiron 5110?

I am using ubuntu 11.10. I want the following 3 things: I have dell inspiron 5110 laptop. There is button at the top right corner of laptop which can be used for turning the screen off. It works in windows but it does not work in ubuntu 11.10. Even in the manual of the laptop, it the button is supported only in windows. Is there a way to activate it in ubuntu 11.10? Some of the keys like: "break" etc. are missing. Can I use other keys (or combinations of other keys) to function as those missing keys? In the program, "mouse and touchpad", there is no tab for touchpad. I want to enable vertical and horizontal scrolling. How do I do that? Arguments for discouraging satellite sites?

I am working with a client who's read about satellite sites on a SEP book and has been building hundreds of keyword reach domains (buytoyotacorona1989cheap.com, brandnewsuvinred.com) with specific content about such domains. They all link to a main domain (CompanyName.com) where most of the information is either repeated(from other sites) or new. I told him to drop all the other domains and only focus on building good content for the main site as it is too difficult to maintain so many websites, plus they might look like link farms to Google. He told me to make a Google search for "Buy Toyota cheap " and two of his websites were listed among top 10. So it's seem to be doing some good, but I get the feeling that what he is doing is wrong. What other arguments are there to discourage this practice? or is he doing the right thing? My arguments have helped him to decide go down from hundreds to close to one hundred (because cost of maintainance) but I believe he should only have one or two sites. PS: The business is not actually about cars.

I have 6 classes and I try to use linq to Entities to get the SiglaUF information of the last deeper table (in the view - MVC). The problem is I receive the following error: "The ObjectContext instance has been disposed and can no longer be used for operations that require a connection." I chose to use Oracle VM Server for SPARC to create a cluster like this: There are plenty of trade offs and decisions that need to be made, for example: Rather than configuring the system by hand, you might want to use an Oracle SuperCluster T5-8 My configuration is similar to jsavit's: Availability Best Practices - Example configuring a T5-8 but I chose to ignore some of the advice. What's up with LDoms: Part 9 - Direct IO

In the last article of this series, we discussed the most general of all physical IO options available for LDoms, root domains. Now, let's have a short look at the next level of granularity: Virtualizing individual PCIe slots. In the LDoms terminology, this feature is called "Direct IO" or DIO. It is very similar to root domains, but instead of reassigning ownership of a complete root complex, it only moves a single PCIe slot or endpoint device to a different domain. If the device is a slot, the card in that slot must support the DIO feature. The documentation lists all such cards. Moving a slot to a different domain works just like moving a PCI root complex. Again, this is not a dynamic process and includes reboots of the affected domains. The resulting configuration is nicely shown in a diagram in the Admin Guide: There are several important things to note and consider here: The domain receiving the slot/endpoint device turns into an IO domain in LDoms terminology, because it now owns some physical IO hardware. Solaris will create nodes for this hardware under /devices. This includes entries for the virtual PCI root complex (pci_0 in the diagram) and anything between it and the actual endpoint device. It is very important to understand that all of this PCIe infrastructure is virtual only! Only the actual endpoint devices are true physical hardware. There is an implicit dependency between the guest owning the endpoint device and the root domain owning the real PCIe infrastructure: Only if the root domain is up and running, will the guest domain have access to the endpoint device. The root domain is still responsible for resetting and configuring the PCIe infrastructure (root complex, PCIe level configurations, error handling etc.) because it owns this part of the physical infrastructure. This also means that if the root domain needs to reset the PCIe root complex for any reason (typically a reboot of the root domain) it will reset and thus disrupt the operation of the endpoint device owned by the guest domain. The result in the guest is not predictable. I recommend to configure the resulting behaviour of the guest using domain dependencies as described in the Admin Guide in Chapter "Configuring Domain Dependencies". Please consult the Admin Guide in Section "Creating an I/O Domain by Assigning PCIe Endpoint Devices" for all the details! As you can see, there are several restrictions for this feature. It was introduced in LDoms 2.0, mainly to allow the configuration of guest domains that need access to tape devices. Today, with the higher number of PCIe root complexes and the availability of SR-IOV, the need to use this feature is declining. I personally do not recommend to use it, mainly because of the drawbacks of the depencies on the root domain and because it can be replaced with SR-IOV (although then with similar limitations).
