What filesystem and configuration settings should I use? (For example, I know I won't need atime for this!) • RAID 5 configuration and future expansion

  hi, I am building a PC to act as a file server among other things, and I was wondering whether it is a good idea to create 2 partitions on the RAID 5 array, one for OS one for data, or to have a separate disk for OS and use array for data. Also, one day i may want to add another disk to the array, so would there be any issues if I had the OS partition on the RAID5 array when it came to resizing the data partition?

  I have MSMQ installed on two Windows XP computers. Can I configure them to pass messages back and forth, or do I need an MSMQ server in the middle? If I need an MSMQ server, does the normal MSMQ with Win2003 able to act as that? And then, how do I connect my Windows XP to that Windows 2003 server? If I take a Windows system image backup from my current HD, and restore it to my SSD, will I get the SSD optimizations, or does Windows do those checks during the install? • Macbook Pro keeps ejecting anything I put into the internal optical drive

  My hard disk crashed and I need to reinstall Mac OS X. I restart, insert the installation DVD, press c on the keyboard and the dvd ejects. I've tried different DVDs, even CDs. It's a Macbook Pro from march 2008. Is it broken? Or can it be something more severe like the firewire controller on the motherboard (since I noticed this after my hard drive started to act strangely)? I've ran Apple Hardware Test successfully.

I would like the root of this domain to act as the base directory for the web application, so each request to www.xyz.com/a/b/c becomes www.abc.com:8080/myApp/a/b/c. Ideally, I would be able to do this transparently and only for certain webapps. www.abc.com:8080 should still respond to requests. What do I need to do to make this happen?

However we have been strongly discouraged to use it as it still alpha and not very well supported. Our application is built with Drupal 7 which doesn't use very effectively its slave database (see my related question on Drupal Answers).   Have a VM that will act as the router, and will be connected to both networks (NAT + 'real'). I spread the distributed switch across the hosts, although any VM that is not on the same physical host as the router/dhcpd simply doesn't get an IP. So its obviously my dvSwitch config. • raid 6 vs raid 10? which would you choose.

  my choice would be raid 6 for a file server since you can lose two drives and it does not matter which set of two can die. from what i understand with raid 10 you can lose two drives but if they happen to be off the same raid 1 then you are a out of luck? any suggestions? basic file server with about 200gb of data and it would act as a single point of backup for other workstations and servers. thanks in advance.

• Is it possible to rsync your web site to another backup server and use the same .htaccess files?

  I am trying to use rsync to replicate all the files from one web server to another server that could act as a backup if the first one went down. The problem I am having is that the .htaccess file requires the AuthUserFile to have the fully quallified path to the .htpasswd file and I cannot make the paths the same on the two machines.   can i convert phone wiring in walls to act as only Ethernet network cause the phone wiring is not in use and not connected to the phone company so there is no voltage in the wires i remove the wall plate and i find 6 wires blue,blue/white,green,green/white,orange,orange/white , and i know that Ethernet use 8 here is what i am thinking get Ethernet cable cut it in half and attach wires from wall to the first computer and the same with the other computer so if this is possible do i just attach wires in the same color and ignore brown wire or do i have to rearrange wires , and how much the speed will be thank you in advance
