  • How do I create an editable databound combo box in a DataGrid in WinForm

    I have a noob question. I have a WinForm (.net 2.0 in VS 2008) on my from I have a DataGrid One of the fields in that datagrid is a combo box that is bound to a separate table. this works, but I am unable to edit or add, I cannot add a value that is not on the list. I am looking to create a lookup box for lack of a better term. The form is for Parts Order Entry In the data Grid Data Source is PartsOrder_table, the Work order Field is a int in the PartsOrder_table, and the combo box is bound to the WorkOrder_table. The WorkOPRder_Table has WorkOrd_ID int and WrkOrd nvarchar(10) the Combo Box Data Source is WorkOrd_Table Display Member is WorkOrd Value Member is WorkOrder_ID This works great with the problem that I cannot add or select anything not in WorkOrder_table. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

  • PHP: How to begin testing large, existing codebase, and test for regression on production site?

    I'm in charge of at least one large body of existing PHP code, that desperately needs tests, and as well I need some method of checking the production site for errors. I've been working with PHP for many years, but am unfortunately new to testing. (Sorry!). While writing tests for code that has predictable outcomes seems easy enough, I'm having trouble wrapping my head around just how I can test the live site, to ensure proper output. I know that in a test environment, I could set up the database in a known state... but are there proper methods or techniques for testing a live site? Where should I begin? [I am aware of PHPUnit and SimpleTest, but haven't chosen one over the other yet]

  • Keeping iPhone App private after AppStore approval for beta testing.

    I have messed around with AD-HOC distribution quite a bit and got it working too. The problem I am facing is all the people who I want to use as beta testers are "normal people" who never even sync their iPhone to iTunes on a computer. So, you can understand how technically challenged these people are, which is fine with me because that is the audience I want to use for testing. All these guys can do for me is if I can give them an AppStore link they will download it on their iPhone and test it for me. So, basically AD-HOC distribution (UDIDs, mobileprovision file and all that crap) is out of question for me. My Question is after AppStore approves my app, is there a way for me to be under the radar so that normal public can not download the app until I am ready. From past experience I know that the moment you put an app out there, in first week you get 100s of downloads and I dont want that to happen until my beta testing is finished.

  • Black screen appears when booting new install of 11.10 on my desktop, cannot access Grub menu to fix

    I installed 11.10 on my desktop PC but get a black screen after the BIOS screen when I try to boot it. I was able to run 10.04.04 on my hard drive before installing 11.10 and I am also able to use 11.10 on my usb pendrive and CD ROM. I've tried unplugging all USB devices before booting and also upgrading from 11.10 to 11.10. Holding the shift key from the BIOS screen doesn't allow me to access the GRUB menu to try: Highlight the first entry, press “e” to edit it. Navigate to words “quiet splash”, delete them and type “nomodeset” in their place (without quotes). Press Ctrl + X to continue boot. Once on the desktop, go to System Administration Additional Drivers and activate the recommended drivers. So running 11.10 on my pendrive, I tried editing /etc/default/grub, commenting out the GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT setting by putting a '#' in front of it to display the grub menu and setting GRUB_TIMEOUT setting to a value greater than or equal to 1 e.g. GRUB_TIMEOUT=10. However, when I run sudo update-grub, I get: /usr/sbin/grub-probe: error: cannot find a device for / (is /dev mounted?) I get the same error with update-grub after: sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt and after: sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda reboot sudo update-grub Other suggestions to fix the update-grub problem: Open synaptic, then purge all the related grub installed packages and reinstall grub-pc then and finally: sudo update-grub Or use Grub Customizer http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1195275 What would be the best way to approach this? I'm concerned about purging "all the related grub installed packages" but if it's true some files are corrupted this would seem necessary. Also, was I executing the correct commands i.e. with mount and grub-install, before running grub-update?

  • Black Screen after installing recommended Nvidia drivers. What to do?

    New to Ubuntu. Problem description: Until recently I had Windows on my computer. My hard disk is divided into two partitions. On the first one (app. 10 GB) I had my Windows XP On the second one (app. 30 GB) I have some data I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 on the first partition (the smaller one). Since I wanted to keep the data on my second partition, I chose the third install option. During the installation process I deleted the data on partition one, created a new partition with the same size, formatted it as ext4 and mounted / on it. The installation continued fine and at the end I restarted and took the CD out when it ejected automatically (it could have been also before the restart). Ubuntu started but I noticed that my computer was slow. Then a prompt appeared telling me that I did not have the optimal NVidia drivers and recommended to install a specific one. I clicked on the recommended driver, installation went apparently just fine and at the end I had to restart the system again. I did it, Ubuntu started, asked for my password, I typed it, pressed Enter, the screen turned black and remained like that (only the cursor was there and I could move it). I restarted and the same thing happened again. Has anyone had such a problem before and was able to solve it? With Windows I always installed drivers from CDs after installing Windows. Are the same CDs going to work for Ubuntu too or I should find special drivers? P.S. During the installation I was connected to the internet and I agreed on installing updates and the third party software. In the time before I installed that problematic but recommended NVidia driver I checked that there was between 6 and 7 GB free space on the first partition where I installed Ubuntu.

  • Just installed Ubuntu 12.04. When booting, all I get is a black screen with cursor

    Installation appears to go fine. After rebooting, I get my motherboard loading screens, but when it comes time for Ubuntu to boot, I just get a black screen with a blinking white underscore in the top-left - same as I got when waiting for the install CD to load, except it lasts forever. The only keypress it seems to recognize is ctrl+alt+del, which reboots. Letters don't register, function keys w/ or w/o modifiers do nothing. I've installed Ubuntu 12.04 twice and got the same error. The first time, I installed it as the only OS, and had it take up the whole disk. The second time, I installed Windows 7 first, then Ubuntu by specifying custom partitions. After this install, it would boot straight to Windows without showing grub. I used EasyBCD to add the Ubuntu installation to grub, and this got grub to show, and let me select it, but it led back to the same error described up top. I've had Linux Mint 11 and 12 installed on this PC, but was unable to get previous versions of Ubuntu to install (always had errors while installing, not after).   • Testing realistic loads for new versions of existing web app

    Assuming I have a relatively complex web application, I am interested in testing performances of a new version using a traffic as realistic as possible. Traffic is relatively complex (session-based, lots of internal logic which depends on incoming requests). The webapp depends on many servers (databases, frontends, etc...). I can think of two basic directions: Recording every incoming request with its timestamp in production in a centralized manner and replaying it from N clients to reproduce a load as close as possible as the original. Issue: because we have many servers, getting the centralized log is not trivial. having a system duplicating requests to a staging area so that I could "plug" a dev version of my webapp to it at anytime without affecting the production. Issue: I have not found much information about it expect this, which suggests to me that may not be the best solution. OTOH, it is realistic by definition. What is the standard way of doing this kind of testing ? I did not find much information about load testing with complex, realistic traffic.

    Right now i'm on testing something in a database. It's a wordpress database. i have to write and delete and do other operation on it. As you know it, it has indexing mechanism that will always make every new post inherit the next highest possible ID. Please consider that this database is a copying of used database. it has been written before. So, i will need to make sure when i finish my testing, it will be the same Right now, my only solution is making backup. So if i have end in some section of planned testing, i will backup it and start next testing on another copy of it. Fortunately, the size of database is only a small one. so delete and copy and backup it will be easy. but i know this way of database testing is only partial solution.It force me to create too many backup copy. I don't know what i will do if the database has bigger size. it will be a very long of testing nightmare. so i wonder is there any solution that work just like rollback. So it will just lock the database and just put new entry as some kind of cache. I can erase it or write it into the database. i use mysql and phpmyadmin and use it to developed some custom solution. EDIT ::: How to effectively doing testing on database when developing PHP solution ?

  • Testing a wide variety of computers with a small company

    Hello everyone, I work for a small dotcom which will soon be launching a reasonably-complicated Windows program. We have uncovered a number of "WTF?" type scenarios that have turned up as the program has been passed around to the various not-technical-types that we've been unable to replicate. One of the biggest problems we're facing is that of testing: there are a total of three programmers -- only one working on this particular project, me -- no testers, and a handful of assorted other staff (sales, etc). We are also geographically isolated. The "testing lab" consists of a handful of VMWare and VPC images running sort-of fresh installs of Windows XP and Vista, which runs on my personal computer. The non-technical types try to be helpful when problems arise, we have trained them on how to most effectively report problems, and the software itself sports a wide array of diagnostic features, but since they aren't computer nerds like us their reporting is only so useful, and arranging remote control sessions to dig into the guts of their computers is time-consuming. I am looking for resources that allow us to amplify our testing abilities without having to put together an actual lab and hire beta testers. My boss mentioned rental VPS services and asked me to look in to them, however they are still largely very much self-service and I was wondering if there were any better ways. How have you, or any other companies in a similar situation handled this sort of thing? EDIT: According to the lingo, our goal here is to expand our systems testing capacity via an elastic computing platform such as Amazon EC2. At this point I am not sure suggestions of beefing up our unit/integration testing are going to help very much as we are consistently hitting walls at the systems testing phase.   • how to optimize virtual box shared folders

    This is really pissing me off. No matter how much memory I put into the guest os(windows xp). It still hangs for about 365 days before you can access the file you want to access from the shared folder. What do I do to make things faster? Because after it hangs and not respond for 365 days. It will do it again for another 250 days. Ive even set the shared folder to permanent. This is a fairly decent machine: 2.50ghz processor(x64 architecture, but I have only 2Gb of memory so my host os is just 32 bit windows 7) hdd has much space left: 156 Gb free of 250Gb

I’ve already covered some of the code editor improvements in the VS 2010 release.  In particular, I’ve blogged about the Code Intellisense Improvements, new Code Searching and Navigating Features, HTML, ASP.NET and JavaScript Snippet Support, and improved JavaScript Intellisense.  Today’s blog post covers a small, but nice, editor improvement with VS 2010 – the ability to use “Box Selection” when performing multi-line editing.  This can eliminate keystrokes and enables some slick editing scenarios. Follow me at: twitter.com/scottgu] Box Selection Box selection is a feature that has been in Visual Studio for awhile (although not many people knew about it).  It allows you to select a rectangular region of text within the code editor by holding down the Alt key while selecting the text region with the mouse.  With VS 2008 you could then copy or delete the selected text. VS 2010 now enables several more capabilities with box selection including: Text Insertion: Typing with box selection now allows you to insert new text into every selected line Paste/Replace: You can now paste the contents of one box selection into another and have the content flow correctly Zero-Length Boxes: You can now make a vertical selection zero characters wide to create a multi-line insert point for new or copied text These capabilities can be very useful in a variety of scenarios.  Some example scenarios: change access modifiers (private->public), adding comments to multiple lines, setting fields, or grouping multiple statements together. However now we're using extjs for a lot of pages and its proving difficult to incorporate Selenium tests for the complex components like grids. Has anyone had success writing automated tests for extjs-based web pages? Lots of googling finds people with similar problems, but few answers. Thanks!

I mean, there are a lot of relationships and constraints coming from the DB that simply testing controllers does not cover. On the other hand, testing against the DB is not considered a good practice - what then ? Simply testing without db.SubmitChanges() or what ?

  • Why is the W3C box model considered better?

    Why do most developers consider the W3C box-model to be better than the box-model used by Internet Explorer? I know it's very frustrating developing pages that look the way you want them on Internet Explorer, but I find the W3C box-model to be counter-intuitive. For example, if margins, padding, and border were factored into the width, I could assign fixed width values for all my columns without having to worry about how many columns I have and what changes I make to my padding and margins. Under W3C box model I have to worry about how many columns I have, and develop something akin to a mathematical formula to calculate my values. Changing them would nightmarish, especially for complex layouts. My novice opinion is that it's more restrictive. Consider this small frame-work I wrote: #content { margin:0 auto 30px auto; padding:0 30px 30px 30px; width:900px; } #content .column { float:left; margin:0 20px 20px 20px; } #content .first { margin-left:0; } #content .last { margin-right:0; } .width_1-4 { width:195px; } .width_1-3 { width:273px; } .width_1-2 { width:430px; } .width_3-4 { width:645px; } .width_1-1 { width:900px; } These values I have assigned here will falter unless there are three columns, and thus the margins at 0(first)+20+20+20+20+0(last). It would be a disaster if I wanted to add padding to my columns too, as my entire setup would have to be re calibrated. Now imagine if column width incorporated all the other elements, all I would need to do is change one associated value, and I have my layout. I'm less criticizing it and more hoping to understand why it's better, or why I'm finding it more difficult. Am I doing this whole thing wrong? I don't know very much about this topic, but it seems counter intuitive to use W3C's box-model. Some advice would be really appreciated. Thanks

  • Gradle + Robolectric: Where do I put the file org.robolectric.Config.properties?

    I'm trying to setup a test using Robolectric to click on a menu button in this repository. Basic Robolectric tests will run, but I'm not able to run any project-specific test using resources because it says it can't find my AndroidManifest.xml. After running ../gradlew clean check, here's the standard output from the Robolectric html file: WARNING: No manifest file found at ./AndroidManifest.xml.Falling back to the Android OS resources only. To remove this warning, annotate your test class with @Config(manifest=Config.NONE). I found these instructions which indicate I should create an org.robolectric.Config.properties file, but I'm not sure where to put it. I've tried everywhere, pretty much, and despite moving the file, the path in the error message is always the same as above (./AndroidManifest.xml). This makes me think the build process has never picked up the settings in the file org.robolectric.Config.properties. I also tried the @Config(manifest="") directive but this gave me a cannot find symbol error. If I move the AndroidManifest.xml into my project directory, then I get an error about it not being able to find the path ./res/values and I wasn't able to resolve that either. Any ideas? Update 1 Thanks Eugen, I'm now using @RunWith(RobolectricGradleTestRunner.class) instead of @RunWith(RobolectricTestRunner).   • jQuery set selected value in option box once the box has been loaded

    I want to preset the value of a selectbox based on a hidden field. I need this after an error has been detected in a form to avoid the user having to set the value themselves again. I do this by setting the value of a hidden field server side. The problem I have seems to be that the select box isn't done yet at the time I try to set the selected value.
