  • Can I copy from vim to another window without +xterm-clipboard?

    - by GorillaSandwich
I'm using Ubuntu and vim. I can copy text from vim and paste it into another window by highlighting it in vim, then middle-clicking in the other window. This works fine when I'm on my local machine. I can also copy into the system register by highlighting text and yanking to the system register. (For example, Shift-V JJ "+ y to go into linewise visual mode, highlight two lines, select the '+' register and yank.) It's then available to paste into other windows. However, if I ssh into my web host, I can't do either of these. (They use some flavor of Linux - I think it's CentOS.) In vim, if I type :version, my local version shows +xterm_clipboard, but the host's version shows -xterm_clipboard. I don't have sudo rights there. Is there any way to be able to copy from their vim without getting them to tinker with the installation?

  • Paranormal activity in My Pictures folder: Thumbnail doesn't match actual picture.

    - by Sam152
After finding an amusing picture on a popular imageboard, I decided to save it. A few days past and I was browsing my images folder when I realised that the thumbnail generated by Windows XP in the thumbnails view did not match the actual image. Here is a comparison image: What's even stranger in this situation is that the parts of the photograph that are different have actually been replaced with what might be the correct background. Furthermore, it is a jpeg (no PNG transparency tricks) that is 343 kilobytes but only 847x847 pixels wide. What could be going on here? Could there be anything malicious in the works, or hidden data? Before anyone asks, I have checked and preformed the following: Deleted Thumbs.db to reload thumbnails. Opened image in different editors. (they appear with the text) Moved image to a different directory. Changed the extension to .rar. All these steps produce the same results. Pre actual posting update: It seems that opening the image in paint, changing the image entirely (deleting entire contents and making a red fill) will still generate the original thumbnail, even after deleting Thumbs.db etc. I'm also hesitant to post the original data, in case there is something malicious or hidden that could be potentially illegal. (Although it would be very beneficial to see if it works on other computers and not just my own).

  • Symlink to /Documents /Pictures etc. in OS X Home Directory?

    - by Larry O'Brien
I have just purchased a 120GB SSD with the intent of making it my boot drive. I'd like to keep it as lean as possible since, y'know, it's so small (Heaven help me). I've read Can I move my home folder in Mac OS X? and Moving Mac OS X user folders? which discourage moving the entire home dir to a data drive. Is it possible and less-dangerous to leave the home directory on the boot drive but move the big data directories to a slower drive and symlink to them? I have the same thoughts with the /Applications directory, but maybe I should make that a separate question?

  • Point subdirectory to another domain is IIS 6

    - by Liviu
Is it possible to rewrite somehow www.mysite.com/Pictures to point to test.mysite.com/Pictures or even more broadly www.someothersite.com/Pictures ? Note: www.mysite.com and test.mysite.com are on separate machines and built with different technologies (one is ASP.NET and the other is PHP) but I have access to both of them. I want that when I reference a picture like www.mysite.com/Pictures/pic12345.png the picture to display correctly, even though there is not /Pictures folder on that server and the pictures has to be retrieved by going to test.mysite.com/Picture/pic12345.png Ideally I want to do this in IIS6 to test it. However I am interested if it possible to do in any webserver (Apache, IIS7)

  • Insert Image in richTextBoxControl

    - by Rahat
What is the best way to insert an image programatically into the RichTextBox control in C# Winforms? If the method is using Clipboard then what is the optimized way to keep the Clipboard original data (i.e. the data state before placing my image on the Clipboard) available to be replaced after my temporary usage of Clipboard for inseting my image in Rich Text Box Control.

  • Tools to Help Post Content On Your WordPress Blog

    - by Matthew Guay
Now that you’ve got a nice blog, you want to do more with it and start posting content.  Here we look at some tools that will allow you to post directly to your WordPress blog. Writing a new blog post is easy with WordPress as we saw in our previous post about Starting your own WordPress blog.  The web editor gives you a lot of features and even lets you edit your post’s source code if you enjoy hacking HTML.  There are other tools that will allow you to post content, here we look at how you can post with dedicated apps, browser plugins, and even by email. Windows Live Writer Windows Live Writer (part of the Windows Live Essentials Suite) is a great app for posting content to your blog.  This free program for Microsoft lets you post content to a variety of blogging services, including Blogger, Typepad, LiveJournal, and of course WordPress.  You can write blog posts directly from its Word-like editor, complete with pictures and advanced formatting.  Even if you’re offline, you can still write posts and save them for when you’re online again. For more information about installing Live writer, check out our article on how to Install Windows Live Essentials In Windows 7. Once Live Writer is installed, open it to add your blog.  If you already had Live Writer installed and configured for a blog, you can add your new blog, too.  Just click your blog’s name in the top right corner, and select “Add blog account”. Select “Other blog service” to add your WordPress blog to Writer, and click Next.   Enter your blog’s web address, and your username and password.  Check Remember my password so you don’t have to enter it every time you write something. Writer will analyze your blog and setup your account. During the setup process it may ask to post a temporary post.  This will let you preview blog posts using your blog’s real theme, which is helpful, so click Yes. Finally, add your Blog’s name, and click Finish. You can now use the rich editor to write and add content to a new blog post.   Select the Preview tab to see how your post will look on your blog… Or, if you’re a HTML geek, select the Source tab to edit the code of your blog post. From the bottom of the window, you can choose categories, insert tags, and even schedule the post to publish on a different day.  Live Writer is fully integrated with WordPress; you’re not missing anything by using the desktop editor. If you want to edit a post you’ve already published, click the Open button and select the post.  You can chose and edit any post, including ones you published via the web interface or other editors. Add Multimedia Content to your Posts with Live Writer Back in the Edit tab, you can add pictures, videos and more from the sidebar.  Select what you want to insert. Pictures If you insert a picture, you can add many nice borders and designs to it. Or, you can even add artistic effects from the Effects tab in the sidebar. Photo Gallery If you want to post several pictures, say some of your vacation shots, then inserting a picture gallery may be the best option.  Select Insert Photo Gallery in the sidebar, and then choose the pictures you want in the gallery. Once the gallery is inserted, you can choose from several styles to showcase your pictures. When you post the blog, you will be asked to sign in with your Windows Live ID as the gallery pictures will be stored in the free Skydrive storage service. Your blog readers can see the preview of your pictures directly on your blog, and then can view each individual picture, download them, or see a slideshow online via the link. Video If you want to add a video to your blog post, select Video from the sidebar as above.  You can select a video that’s already online, or you can choose a new video from file and upload it via YouTube directly from Windows Live Writer.   Note that you will have to sign in with your YouTube account to upload videos to YouTube, so if you’re not logged in you’ll be prompted to do so when you click Insert. Geek Tip:  If you ever want to copy your Live Writer settings to another computer, check out our article on how to Backup Your Windows Live Writer Settings. Microsoft Office Word Word 2007 and 2010 also let you post content directly to your blog.  This is especially nice if you’ve already typed up a document and think it would be good on your Blog as well.  Check out our in-depth tutorial on posting blog posts via Word 2007 using Word 2007 as a blogging tool. This works in Word 2010 too, except the Office Orb has been replaced by the new Backstage view.  So, in Word 2010, to start a new blog post, click File \ New then select Blog post.  Proceed as you would in Word 2007 to add your blog settings and post the content you want. Or, if you’ve already written a document and want to post it, select File \ Share (or Save and Send in the final version of Word 2010), and then click Publish as Blog Post.  If you haven’t setup your blog account yet, set it up as shown in the Word 2007 article. Post Via Email Most of us use email daily, and already have our favorite email app or service.  Whether on your desktop or mobile phone, it’s easy to create rich emails and add content.  WordPress lets you generate a unique email address that you can use to easily post content and email to your blog.  Just compose your email with the subject as the title of your post, and send it to this unique address.  Your new post will be up in minutes. To active this feature, click the My Account button in the top menu bar in your WordPress.com account, and select My Blogs. Click the Enable button under Post by Email beside your blog’s name.   Now you’ll have a private email you can use to post to your blog.  Anything you send to this email will be posted as a new post.  If you think your email may be compromised, click Regenerate to get a new publishing email address. Any email program or webapp now is a blog post editor.  Feel free to use rich formatting or insert pictures; it all comes through great.  This is also a great way to post to your blog from your mobile device.  Whether you’re using webmail or a dedicated email client on your phone, you can now blog from anywhere.   Mobile Applications WordPress also offer dedicated applications for blogging directly from your mobile device.  You can write new posts, edit existing ones, and manage comments all from your Smartphone.  Currently they offer apps for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry.  Check them out at the link below. Conclusion Whether you want to write from your browser or email a post to your blog, WordPress is flexible enough to work right along with your preferences.  However you post, you can be sure that it will look professional and be easily accessible with your WordPress blog. • Create a Slide Show in Windows 7 Media Center

    - by DigitalGeekery
Are you looking for a nice way to create and display a slide show from your photo collection? Today we’ll show you how to create a slide show, how to add music to it, and watch it from the comfort of your couch in Windows 7 Media Center. Create Slide Show Launch Windows 7 Media Center and click on the Picture Library tile found under Pictures and Videos.   In the Pictures Library, scroll across to slide shows and click on Create Slide show.   Enter a name for the slide show and click Next.   If you are using a Windows Media Center remote, click on the OK button to bring up the onscreen keyboard. Use the directional buttons to navigate across the keyboard and press OK to select each letter. Click Done when finished. Select Picture Library and click Next. Select the pictures to include in your slide show. If using a remote, navigate through the images and press OK to select. If you are using a mouse, simply click on the selections. When you are finished, click Next.    Now, we can review and edit the slide show. Click the up or down pointing arrows to move pictures up and down in the order.  (more intuitive titles would be helpful in this case as opposed to the randomly generated titles in the example below) If you are finished, click Create. You can also choose to go back and add music to your slide show. (or even more pictures) We’ll take a look at adding some music in our example. Click on the Add More button.   Add Music to Your Slide Show Here we’ll select Music Library to add a song. Click Next.   You’ll now be able to browse your Music Library to select songs for your slide show. Select your songs and click Next.   When you are finished adding Music and Pictures click Create.   Once your slide show is saved, you can play it any time by going to clicking on slide shows in the Picture Library, then selecting the slide show title. Select play slide show when you’re ready to enjoy your new production.   If you ever want to edit or delete the slide show, select it in the Picture Library, and scroll to Actions. You’ll see those option under additional commands. You have the option to Edit Slide Show, Burn a CD/DVD, or Delete. Editing Slide Show Settings Within Media Center, go to Tasks… Click on Pictures…   Then choose Slide Shows. From the Slide Show settings you have the option to Show pictures in random order, Show picture information, Show song information, and Use Pan and zoom effect. You can also adjust the length of time to display each picture, and change the background color. Be sure to click Save to apply and changes before exiting. If you choose to show picture information, the picture title, date, and star rating will be displayed in the top right.   If your slide show is accompanied by music and you choose to show song information, you will get a translucent overlay for a few seconds at the beginning of each song to indicate the song, album, and artist. One of the really cool things about creating a slide show in Windows 7 Media Center is you can complete the entire process using just a Media Center remote. Can’t get enough slide shows? • Can't delete a directory on external drive (OS X)

    - by Martin Tóth
I have a brand new Transcend StoreJet 25M3 (external HDD) mounted to MacBook (Leopard 10.5.8) at /Volumes/Transcend. I copied some data from my old Windows (XP) machine on it, and now, after cleaning some stuff up, I wanted to delete some directories, but this is what happened: $ rmdir My\ Pictures/ rmdir: My Pictures/: Operation not permitted Using Finder just asks for password, but does not delete the directory (sound of "moved to Trash" is played). I thought it's some permission "thing", but: $ ls -l drwxrwxrwx 1 martin staff 32768 5 jan 16:11 My Pictures/ $ sudo rm -rf My\ Pictures rm: My Pictures: Operation not permitted I re-mounted, rebooted (thinking that there's some file lock), but that did not help. What might have happened here? How to delete it?

  • Different file locations for http v https on IIS?

    - by Jeremy Morgan
We have a server running IIS and have some folders running under https, but most are open. The problem I'm having is when someone is directed from a page in the secure section of the site, the relative link brings up https. For example: link to /pictures goes to http://www.mysite.com/pictures But if someone is on a secured part of the site https://www.mysite.com/shoppingcart And then clicks back to /pictures, they get https://www.mysite.com/pictures so the pictures directory is shown under https. My problem is, they get a 404 not found message when this happens. I could not find anything in the settings that would indicate that secured connections are pulling files from anywhere different than non-secured. If I type http or https on the main page of the site both come up fine. But if I try to add the https:// in a folder level, I get a 404. Any ideas why this might be happening?

  • blender: 3D model from guide images

    - by Stefan
In a effort to learn the blender interface, which is confusing to say the least, I've chosen to model a model from referrence pictures easily found on the web. Problem is that I can't ( and won't ) get perfect "right", "front" and "top" pictures. Blender only allows you to see the background pictures when in ortographic mode and only from right|front|top, which doesn't help me. How to I proceed to model from non-perfect guide images?

  • Static pages for large photo album

    - by Phil P
I'm looking for advice on software for managing a largish photo album for a website. 2000+ pictures, one-time drop (probably). I normally use MarginalHack's album, which does what I want: pre-generate thumbnails and HTML for the pictures, so I can serve without needing a dynamic run-time, so there's less attack surface to worry about. However, it doesn't handle pagination or the like, so it's unwieldy for this case. This is a one-time drop for pictures from a wedding, with a shared usercode/password for distribution to the guests; I don't wish to put the pictures in a third-party hosting environment. I don't wish to use PHP, simply because that's another run-time to worry about, I might relent and use something dynamic if it's Python or Perl based (as I can maintain things written in those). I currently have: Apache serving static files, Album-generated, some sub-directories to divide up the content to be a little more manageable. Something like Album but with pagination already handled would be great, but I'm willing to have something a little more dynamic, if it lets people comment or caption and store the extra data in something like an sqlite DB. I'd want something light-weight, not a full-blown CMS with security updates every three months. I don't want to upload pictures of other peoples' children into a third-party free service where I don't know what the revenue model is. (For my site: revenue is none, costs out of pocket). Existing server hosting is *nix, Apache, some WSGI. Client-side I have MacOS. Any advice?

  • TicTac Photo and Windows 7

    - by Ben
Hello, My wife has been creating a tictac photo album. I had to upgrade to windows 7 as i had enough of Vista so i backed up the tic tac photo file and the photos to an external hard disk and performed a fresh install of win7. Now here is the problem. TicTacPhoto says it can find the photos in the album. The locations were as follows: Vista: C:\Users\Kelly\Pictures Win 7 C:\Users\Kelly\My Pictures When i try to create a Pictures folder under Kelly it popups a message about merging the two folders and simply moves the pictures to the My Pictures folder. Does anyone know a way to make a foler called pictures so i can eliminate the file path problem and then try again with tic tac photo support to get them to fix my file. My wife is going to kill me as its our wedding album and she has spent upwards of 30hrs designing it and me upgrading to win 7 means its all my fault. She does not understand file paths etc. Im going to try and open the album file in a text editor and see if i can see anything but thought i would ask here as well. Any help appreciated.

  • How to get rid of previous reflection when reflecting a UIImageView (with changing pictures)?

    - by epale
Hi everyone, I have managed to use the reflection sample app from apple to create a reflection from a UIImageView. But the problem is that when I change the picture inside the UIImageView, the reflection from the previous displayed picture remains on the screen. The new reflection on the next picture then overlaps the previous reflection. How do I ensure that the previous reflection is removed when I change to the next picture? Thank you so much. I hope my question is not too basic. Here is the codes which i used so far: //reflection self.view.autoresizesSubviews = YES; self.view.userInteractionEnabled = YES; // create the reflection view CGRect reflectionRect = currentView.frame; // the reflection is a fraction of the size of the view being reflected reflectionRect.size.height = reflectionRect.size.height * kDefaultReflectionFraction; // and is offset to be at the bottom of the view being reflected reflectionRect = CGRectOffset(reflectionRect, 0, currentView.frame.size.height); reflectionView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:reflectionRect]; // determine the size of the reflection to create NSUInteger reflectionHeight = currentView.bounds.size.height * kDefaultReflectionFraction; // create the reflection image, assign it to the UIImageView and add the image view to the containerView reflectionView.image = [self reflectedImage:currentView withHeight:reflectionHeight]; reflectionView.alpha = kDefaultReflectionOpacity; [self.view addSubview:reflectionView]; //reflection */ Then the codes below are used to form the reflection: CGImageRef CreateGradientImage(int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { CGImageRef theCGImage = NULL; // gradient is always black-white and the mask must be in the gray colorspace CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceGray(); // create the bitmap context CGContextRef gradientBitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreate(nil, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh, 8, 0, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaNone); // define the start and end grayscale values (with the alpha, even though // our bitmap context doesn't support alpha the gradient requires it) CGFloat colors[] = {0.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0}; // create the CGGradient and then release the gray color space CGGradientRef grayScaleGradient = CGGradientCreateWithColorComponents(colorSpace, colors, NULL, 2); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); // create the start and end points for the gradient vector (straight down) CGPoint gradientStartPoint = CGPointZero; CGPoint gradientEndPoint = CGPointMake(0, pixelsHigh); // draw the gradient into the gray bitmap context CGContextDrawLinearGradient(gradientBitmapContext, grayScaleGradient, gradientStartPoint, gradientEndPoint, kCGGradientDrawsAfterEndLocation); CGGradientRelease(grayScaleGradient); // convert the context into a CGImageRef and release the context theCGImage = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(gradientBitmapContext); CGContextRelease(gradientBitmapContext); // return the imageref containing the gradient return theCGImage; } CGContextRef MyCreateBitmapContext(int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); // create the bitmap context CGContextRef bitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreate (nil, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh, 8, 0, colorSpace, // this will give us an optimal BGRA format for the device: (kCGBitmapByteOrder32Little | kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedFirst)); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); return bitmapContext; } (UIImage *)reflectedImage:(UIImageView *)fromImage withHeight:(NSUInteger)height { if (!height) return nil; // create a bitmap graphics context the size of the image CGContextRef mainViewContentContext = MyCreateBitmapContext(fromImage.bounds.size.width, height); // offset the context - // This is necessary because, by default, the layer created by a view for caching its content is flipped. // But when you actually access the layer content and have it rendered it is inverted. Since we're only creating // a context the size of our reflection view (a fraction of the size of the main view) we have to translate the // context the delta in size, and render it. // CGFloat translateVertical= fromImage.bounds.size.height - height; CGContextTranslateCTM(mainViewContentContext, 0, -translateVertical); // render the layer into the bitmap context CALayer *layer = fromImage.layer; [layer renderInContext:mainViewContentContext]; // create CGImageRef of the main view bitmap content, and then release that bitmap context CGImageRef mainViewContentBitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(mainViewContentContext); CGContextRelease(mainViewContentContext); // create a 2 bit CGImage containing a gradient that will be used for masking the // main view content to create the 'fade' of the reflection. The CGImageCreateWithMask // function will stretch the bitmap image as required, so we can create a 1 pixel wide gradient CGImageRef gradientMaskImage = CreateGradientImage(1, height); // create an image by masking the bitmap of the mainView content with the gradient view // then release the pre-masked content bitmap and the gradient bitmap CGImageRef reflectionImage = CGImageCreateWithMask(mainViewContentBitmapContext, gradientMaskImage); CGImageRelease(mainViewContentBitmapContext); CGImageRelease(gradientMaskImage); // convert the finished reflection image to a UIImage UIImage *theImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:reflectionImage]; // image is retained by the property setting above, so we can release the original CGImageRelease(reflectionImage); return theImage; } */

  • Where to store things like user pictures using Azure? Blob Storage?

    - by n26
I have just migrated a project of mine for test cases to Microsoft's azure. But for functionalities similar to an avatar upload I need write access to the files on the harddrive. But this is a cloud, so this is not possible. How can I build such functionalities instead? Should I use the Blob Storage or is there a better solution? Does it make sense to store all website images (f.e. layout images) in the Blob Storage? So I would have a Cookie-free Domain for my static content?

  • Where do current (not HTML5) browsers stand on clipboard support for non-text data?

    - by John
I don't really know where the line is between the browser itself and HTML/JS here. But let's say I want to write a web-app where I can copy a chunk of data from MSPaint (select, CTRL+c) and paste it into a web-page in some way... ultimately the point is the data goes to the server without me having to save it as a file first. Where are the problems here - browsers or client-side technologies? For instance if JS can't do it, could Flex/Silverlight? Advice on future technology welcome, but doesn't really answer the question - where are we right now with IE/FF/Chrome and JS/Flex/SL?

  • C# Net CF - how to take a picture without interaction?

    - by Jakis
Hello everyone, Is there a possibility to take a picture using phone's camera without user interaction? I'd like to write a short app that only takes sequence of pictures and the user should be able to set number of pictures, location, quality and time between shots. After starting the app should take pictures without further interaction. This program should for examlple take a sequence of 250 pictures of moving clouds so I could make a ten second movie from those pics. Greeting and sorry for my english ;)
