  • Why I am not able to run rails tests

    - by dorelal
This is what I did. > git clone git://github.com/rails/rails.git > cd rails > cd railties > rake And I got following error. (in /Users/dorelal/dev/scratch/rails/railties) ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:236:in `initialize': No such file or directory - /Users/dorelal/dev/scratch/rails/railties/tmp/app_template/config/boot.rb (Errno::ENOENT) from ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:236:in `open' from ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:236 from ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:222:in `initialize' from ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:222:in `new' from ./test/isolation/abstract_unit.rb:222 from test/application/configuration_test.rb:1:in `require' from test/application/configuration_test.rb:1 rake aborted! I checked ~/railties/tmp and this directory is empty. I know rails is not broken. So what am I missing?

  • Why is rails setting ":null => false" on all my columns in schema.rb?

    - by ryeguy
Even if I never specify :null => false in my migrations that initially add columns to tables, rails still generates code in schema.rb that specifies the columns as having :null => false. Why is this? If I develop on my box, and then use rake db:schema:load on my production box, I'm going to get very different behavior! Edit: Even if I delete schema.rb and run rake db:schema:dump, it still puts :null => false on the new schema even if it isn't defined like that in the actual database. It seems it can't tell whether or not a column is marked as allowing nulls. I'm using SQLite if that helps.

  • Please help me work out this error, regarding the use of a HTTPService to connect Flex4 & Ruby on Ra

    - by ben
I have a HTTPService in Flash Builder 4, that is defined as follows: <s:HTTPService id="getUserDetails" url="http://localhost:3000/users/getDetails" method="GET"/> It gets called as follows: getUserDetails.send({'user[username]': calleeInput.text}); Here is a screenshot of the network monitor, showing that the parameter is being sent correctly (it is 'kirsty'): Here is the Ruby on Rails method that it's connected to: def getDetails @user = User.find_by_username(:username) render :xml => @user end When I run it, I get the following error output in the console: Processing UsersController#list (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-04-30 17:48:03) [GET] User Load (1.1ms) SELECT * FROM "users" Completed in 30ms (View: 16, DB: 1) | 200 OK [http://localhost/users/list] Processing UsersController#getDetails (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-04-30 17:48:13) [GET] Parameters: {"user"={"username"="kirsty"}} User Load (0.3ms) SELECT * FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."username" = '--- :username ') LIMIT 1 ActionView::MissingTemplate (Missing template users/getDetails.erb in view path app/views): app/controllers/users_controller.rb:36:in getDetails' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/httpserver.rb:104:in service' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/httpserver.rb:65:in run' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:173:in start_thread' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:162:in start' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:162:in start_thread' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:95:in start' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:92:in each' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:92:in start' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:23:in start' /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/webrick/server.rb:82:in `start' Rendering rescues/layout (internal_server_error) I'm not sure if the error is being caused by bad code in the getDetails Ruby on Rails method? I'm new to RoR, and I think I remember reading somewhere that every method should have a view. I'm just using this method to get info into the Flex 4 app, do I still need to make a view for it? Is that what's causing the error? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, I've been stuck on this for a few days now! Thanks.

  • Can't get rails app to start on heroku

    - by jonnii
I'm trying to deploy a rails app to heroku, but keep getting the following error. I'd have thought that managing the postgres gems would be something heroku would handle. I've tried everything I can think of short of installing postgres on my local machine, which I'd need to do if I wanted to install the postgres gem. There's also no gem called activerecord-postgresql-adapter... I'm guessing this is the standard adapter that comes with rails?? Any thoughts on how to fix this? • How to add a has_many association on all models

    - by joshsz
Right now I have an initializer that does this: ActiveRecord::Base.send :has_many, :notes, :as => :notable ActiveRecord::Base.send :accepts_nested_attributes_for, :notes It builds the association just fine, except when I load a view that uses it, the second load gives me: can't dup NilClass from: /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2184:in `dup' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2184:in `scoped_methods' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2188:in `current_scoped_methods' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2171:in `scoped?' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2439:in `send' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/base.rb:2439:in `initialize' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/reflection.rb:162:in `new' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/reflection.rb:162:in `build_association' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/association_collection.rb:423:in `build_record' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.3.5/lib/active_record/associations/association_collection.rb:102:in `build' (my app)/controllers/manifests_controller.rb:21:in `show' Any ideas? Am I doing this the wrong way? Interestingly if I move the association onto just the model I'm working with at the moment, I don't get this error. I figure I must be building the global association incorrectly.

  • How to redirect a URL with GET variables in routes.rb without Rails stripping out the variable first?

    - by Michael Hopkins
I am building a website in Rails to replace an existing website. In routes.rb I am trying to redirect some of the old URLs to their new equivalents (some of the URL slugs are changing so a dynamic solution is not possible.) My routes.rb looks like this: match "/index.php?page=contact-us" => redirect("/contact-us") match "/index.php?page=about-us" => redirect("/about-us") match "/index.php?page=committees" => redirect("/teams") When I visit /index.php?page=contact-us I am not redirected to /contact-us. I have determined this is because Rails is removing the get variables and only trying to match /index.php. For example, If I pass /index.php?page=contact-us into the below routes I will be redirected to /foobar: match "/index.php?page=contact-us" => redirect("/contact-us") match "/index.php?page=about-us" => redirect("/about-us") match "/index.php?page=committees" => redirect("/teams") match "/index.php" => redirect("/foobar") How can I keep the GET variables in the string and redirect the old URLs the way I'd like? Does Rails have an intended mechanism for this?

  • Upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 failed

    - by Rupert
Today Ubuntu asked me to upgrade to 11.04. The installation went completely fine until right at the end when the following packages failed: install-info ubuntu-standard The installer hung so I had to shut it down manually. Ubuntu still works fine but it says that the upgrade didn't work properly so I am hesitant to restart it until I have resolved the problem in case I can't get back in. I am running Ubuntu inside the latest version of Virtual Box and was previously running version 10.10. I have tried installing install-info manually with apt-get but I get the following error: Unhandled exception: [#<SystemStackError: stack level too deep>] /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:842:in `block in <class:Autotest>': undefined method `backtrace' for [#<SystemStackError: stack level too deep>]:Array (NoMethodError) from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:828:in `[]' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:828:in `block in hook' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:828:in `each' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:828:in `any?' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:828:in `hook' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:344:in `rescue in run' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:320:in `run' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/lib/autotest.rb:241:in `run' from /usr/local/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.9.1/gems/ZenTest-4.5.0/bin/autotest:6:in `<top (required)>' from /usr/local/ruby/bin/autotest:19:in `load' from /usr/local/ruby/bin/autotest:19:in `<main>' dpkg: error processing install-info (--configure): subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of info: info depends on install-info; however: Package install-info is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing info (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of ubuntu-standard: ubuntu-standard depends on info; however: Package info is not configured yet. dpkg: error processing ubuntu-standard (--configure): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured No apport report written because the error message indicates it's a follow-up error from a previous failure. Have a strange problem in that I have a Rake task that seems to be using multiple versions of Ruby. When one fails, it seems to try another one. Details MacBook running 10.6.5 rvm 1.1.0 Rubies: 1.8.7-p302, ree-1.8.7-2010.02, ruby-1.9.2-p0 Rake 0.8.7 Gem 1.3.7 Veewee (provisioning Virtual Machines using Opcode.com, Vagrant and Chef) I'm not entirely sure the specific details of the error matter, but since it might be an issue with Veewee itself. So, what I'm trying to do is build a new box base on a veewee definition. The command fails with an error about a missing method- but what's interesting is how it fails. Errors I managed to figure out that if I only have one Ruby installed with RVM, it just fails. If I have more than one Ruby install, it fails at the same place, but execution seems to continue in another interpreter. Here are two different clipped console outputs. I've clipped them for size. The full outputs of each error are available as a gist. One Ruby version installed Here is the command run when I only have a single version of Ruby (1.8.7) available in RVM boudica:veewee john$ rvm rake build['mettabox'] --trace rvm 1.1.0 by Wayne E. Seguin ([email protected]) [http://rvm.beginrescueend.com/] (in /Users/john/Work/veewee) ** Invoke build (first_time) ** Execute build … creating new harddrive rake aborted! undefined method `max_vdi_size' for #<VirtualBox::SystemProperties:0x102d6af80> /Users/john/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.8.7-p302/gems/virtualbox-0.8.3/lib/virtualbox/abstract_model/dirty.rb:172:in `method_missing' <------ stacktraces cut ----------> /Users/john/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.8.7-p302/gems/rake-0.8.7/bin/rake:31 /Users/john/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.8.7-p302@global/bin/rake:19:in `load' /Users/john/.rvm/gems/ruby-1.8.7-p302@global/bin/rake:19 Multiple Ruby Versions Here is the same command run with three versions of Ruby available in RVM. Prior to doing this, I used "rvm use 1.8.7." Again, I don't know how important the details of the specific errors are- what's interesting to me is that there are three separate errors- each with it's own stacktrace- and each in a different Ruby interpreter. Look at the bottom of each stacktrace and you'll see that they are all sourced from different interpreter locations- First ree-1.8.7, then ruby-1.8.7, then ruby-1.9.2: boudica:veewee john$ rvm rake build['mettabox'] --trace rvm 1.1.0 by Wayne E. Discussion Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Has anyone seen this "failover"-like behavior before? It seems strange to me that the first exception would not halt execution as it did with one interpreter, but I wonder if there are things happening when RVM is installed that we Ruby developers are not considering.

  • What's the best way to generate an API reference document using a Rails routes.rb file?

    - by RNHurt
I am trying to document the API for my Rails application and I can't help but wonder if there is a better way to generate an XML file based on my routes.rb file. I'm envisioning something similar to the output of rake routes but in a more friendly, XML type format. Corey has some interesting ideas about using reflection/introspection on the routes file here but it's not quite what I need. Please tell me this is a solved problem and I'm not the first one to think of this. :)

  • Refactoring a Single Rails Model with large methods & long join queries trying to do everything

    - by Kelseydh
I have a working Ruby on Rails Model that I suspect is inefficient, hard to maintain, and full of unnecessary SQL join queries. I want to optimize and refactor this Model (Quiz.rb) to comply with Rails best practices, but I'm not sure how I should do it. The Rails app is a game that has Missions with many Stages. Users complete Stages by answering Questions that have correct or incorrect Answers. When a User tries to complete a stage by answering questions, the User gets a Quiz entry with many Attempts. Each Attempt records an Answer submitted for that Question within the Stage. A user completes a stage or mission by getting every Attempt correct, and their progress is tracked by adding a new entry to the UserMission & UserStage join tables. All of these features work, but unfortunately the Quiz.rb Model has been twisted to handle almost all of it exclusively. The callbacks began at 'Quiz.rb', and because I wasn't sure how to leave the Quiz Model during a multi-model update, I resorted to using Rails Console to have the @quiz instance variable via self.some_method do all the heavy lifting to retrieve every data value for the game's business logic; resulting in large extended join queries that "dance" all around the Database schema. The Quiz.rb Model that Smells: class Quiz < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :attempts, dependent: :destroy before_save :check_answer before_save :update_user_mission_and_stage accepts_nested_attributes_for :attempts, :reject_if => lambda { |a| a[:answer_id].blank? }, :allow_destroy => true #Checks every answer within each quiz, adding +1 for each correct answer #within a stage quiz, and -1 for each incorrect answer def check_answer stage_score = 0 self.attempts.each do |attempt| if attempt.answer.correct? == true stage_score += 1 elsif attempt.answer.correct == false stage_score - 1 end end stage_score end def winner return true end def update_user_mission_and_stage ####### #Step 1: Checks if UserMission exists, finds or creates one. #if no UserMission for the current mission exists, creates a new UserMission if self.user_has_mission? == false @user_mission = UserMission.new(user_id: self.user.id, mission_id: self.current_stage.mission_id, available: true) @user_mission.save else @user_mission = self.find_user_mission end ####### #Step 2: Checks if current UserStage exists, stops if true to prevent duplicate entry if self.user_has_stage? @user_mission.save return true else ####### ##Step 3: if step 2 returns false: ##Initiates UserStage creation instructions #checks for winner (winner actions need to be defined) if they complete last stage of last mission for a given orientation if self.passed? && self.is_last_stage? && self.is_last_mission? create_user_stage_and_update_user_mission self.winner #NOTE: The rest are the same, but specify conditions that are available to add badges or other actions upon those conditions occurring: ##if user completes first stage of a mission elsif self.passed? && self.is_first_stage? && self.is_first_mission? create_user_stage_and_update_user_mission #creates user badge for finishing first stage of first mission self.user.add_badge(5) self.user.activity_logs.create(description: "granted first-stage badge", type_event: "badge", value: "first-stage") #If user completes last stage of a given mission, creates a new UserMission elsif self.passed? && self.is_last_stage? && self.is_first_mission? create_user_stage_and_update_user_mission #creates user badge for finishing first mission self.user.add_badge(6) self.user.activity_logs.create(description: "granted first-mission badge", type_event: "badge", value: "first-mission") elsif self.passed? create_user_stage_and_update_user_mission else self.passed? == false return true end end end #Creates a new UserStage record in the database for a successful Quiz question passing def create_user_stage_and_update_user_mission @nu_stage = @user_mission.user_stages.new(user_id: self.user.id, stage_id: self.current_stage.id) @nu_stage.save @user_mission.save self.user.add_points(50) end #Boolean that defines passing a stage as answering every question in that stage correct def passed? self.check_answer >= self.number_of_questions end #Returns the number of questions asked for that stage's quiz def number_of_questions self.attempts.first.answer.question.stage.questions.count end #Returns the current_stage for the Quiz, routing through 1st attempt in that Quiz def current_stage self.attempts.first.answer.question.stage end #Gives back the position of the stage relative to its mission. def stage_position self.attempts.first.answer.question.stage.position end #will find the user_mission for the current user and stage if it exists def find_user_mission self.user.user_missions.find_by_mission_id(self.current_stage.mission_id) end #Returns true if quiz was for the last stage within that mission #helpful for triggering actions related to a user completing a mission def is_last_stage? self.stage_position == self.current_stage.mission.stages.last.position end #Returns true if quiz was for the first stage within that mission #helpful for triggering actions related to a user completing a mission def is_first_stage? self.stage_position == self.current_stage.mission.stages_ordered.first.position end #Returns true if current user has a UserMission for the current stage def user_has_mission? self.user.missions.ids.include?(self.current_stage.mission.id) end #Returns true if current user has a UserStage for the current stage def user_has_stage? self.user.stages.include?(self.current_stage) end #Returns true if current user is on the last mission based on position within a given orientation def is_first_mission? self.user.missions.first.orientation.missions.by_position.first.position == self.current_stage.mission.position end #Returns true if current user is on the first stage & mission of a given orientation def is_last_mission? self.user.missions.first.orientation.missions.by_position.last.position == self.current_stage.mission.position end end My Question Currently my Rails server takes roughly 500ms to 1 sec to process single @quiz.save action. I am confident that the slowness here is due to sloppy code, not bad Database ERD design. What does a better solution look like? And specifically: Should I use join queries to retrieve values like I did here, or is it better to instantiate new objects within the model instead? Or am I missing a better solution? How should update_user_mission_and_stage be refactored to follow best practices? Relevant Code for Reference: quizzes_controller.rb w/ Controller Route Initiating Callback: class QuizzesController < ApplicationController before_action :find_stage_and_mission before_action :find_orientation before_action :find_question def show end def create @user = current_user @quiz = current_user.quizzes.new(quiz_params) if @quiz.save if @quiz.passed? if @mission.next_mission.nil? && @stage.next_stage.nil? redirect_to root_path, notice: "Congratulations, you have finished the last mission!" elsif @stage.next_stage.nil? redirect_to [@mission.next_mission, @mission.first_stage], notice: "Correct! • Ruby Debug IDE error : ruby-debug-ide-0.4.9/lib/ruby-debug-ide.rb:109:in `debug_load'

    - by Paul
I hope someone can assist me. I have RubyMine 2.0.2 installed on Windows 7 32 bit computer. Since a week ago (I presume it must have been after I have update some gems) I cant seem to debug form the IDE. I am trying to debug a rake task which I could before. Running the rake task normally works perfect, just debug doesnt. Its not just limited to the rake, I cant debug any ruby files. I've tried installing older versions of debug-ide and debug-base but to no success. I've tried it with ruby 1.8.7 and 1.8.6 on different computers but nothing. Trying to search the web gave some information, which I've tried, but also no success. Im desperate to get this working. • Can I override task :environment in test_helper.rb to test rake tasks?

    - by Michael Barton
I have a series of rake tasks in a Rakefile which I'd like to test as part of my specs etc. Each task is defined in the form: task :do_somthing => :environment do # Do something with the database here end Where the :environment task sets up an ActiveRecord/DataMapper database connection and classes. I'm not using this as part of Rails but I have a series of tests which I like to run as part of BDD. This snippet illustrates how I'm trying to test the rake tasks. def setup @rake = Rake::Application.new Rake.application = @rake load File.dirname(__FILE__) + '/../../tasks/do_something.rake' end should "import data" do @rake["do_something"].invoke assert something_in_the_database end So my request for help - is it possible to over-ride the :environment task in my test_helper.rb file so I my rake testing interacts with the my test database, rather than production? I've tried redefining the task in the helper file, but this doesn't work. Any help for a solution would be great, as I've been stuck on this for the past week.

Basicly I'm getting this exception: ArgumentError (wrong number of arguments (1 for 0)): /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.1.1/lib/active_record/base.rb:642:in `initialize' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.1.1/lib/active_record/base.rb:642:in `new' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-2.1.1/lib/active_record/base.rb:642:in `create' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ar_mailer-1.3.1/lib/action_mailer/ar_mailer.rb:92:in `perform_delivery_activerecord' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ar_mailer-1.3.1/lib/action_mailer/ar_mailer.rb:91:in `each' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ar_mailer-1.3.1/lib/action_mailer/ar_mailer.rb:91:in `perform_delivery_activerecord' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionmailer-2.1.1/lib/action_mailer/base.rb:508:in `__send__' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionmailer-2.1.1/lib/action_mailer/base.rb:508:in `deliver!' /usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/actionmailer-2.1.1/lib/action_mailer/base.rb:383:in `method_missing' /app/controllers/web_reservations_controller.rb:29:in `test_email' In my web_reservations_controller I have a simply method calling TestMailer.deliver_send_email And my TesMailer is something like: class TestMailer < ActionMailer::ARMailer def send_email @recipients = "[email protected]" @from = "[email protected]" @subject = "TEST MAIL SUBJECT" @body = "<br>TEST MAIL MESSAGE" @content_type = "text/html" end end Do you have any idea? Thanks! Roberto

  • Problems running rails server

    - by harristrader
    I just installed the rails env using the Rails installer on my Mac OSX 10.7.4. I create a project using the "rails new" command. When I try to run the "rails server" command I get this message: /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator/options.rb:32:in `default_options': undefined method `write_inheritable_attribute' for Rails::Generator::Base:Class (NoMethodError) from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator/base.rb:90:in `<class:Base>' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator/base.rb:85:in `<module:Generator>' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator/base.rb:48:in `<module:Rails>' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator/base.rb:6:in `<top (required)>' from /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p194/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:55:in `require' from /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p194/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:55:in `require' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/lib/rails_generator.rb:37:in `<top (required)>' from /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p194/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:55:in `require' from /usr/local/rvm/rubies/ruby-1.9.3-p194/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:55:in `require' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/gems/rails-2.3.14/bin/rails:15:in `<top (required)>' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/bin/rails:23:in `load' from /usr/local/rvm/gems/ruby-1.9.3-p194/bin/rails:23:in `<main>' When I run the $ ruby -v and $ gem -v, I get "ruby 1.9.3p194" and "1.8.24" respectively. What am I missing here? How can I get this server to run?

  • RUBY: Require 'RMagick' not working?

    - by igniteflow
Hi, I have installed RMagick on OSX via MacPorts and can see it by running 'gem server'. However when I try to include it in my script using require 'rubygems' require 'RMagick' It crashes with the following error message ./RMagick.rb:4:in `show_info': uninitialized constant Magick (NameError) from ./RMagick.rb:24 from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from ./rmagick.rb:1 from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `gem_original_require' from /System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/1.8/rubygems/custom_require.rb:31:in `require' from get_pixels.rb:2 Could anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

  • Calling another ruby script from a ruby script

    - by Andrew Grimm
In ruby, is it possible to specify to call another ruby script using the same ruby interpreter as the original script is being run by? For example, if a.rb runs b.rb a couple of times, is it possible to replace system("ruby", "b.rb", "foo", "bar") with something like run_ruby("b.rb", "foo", "bar") so that if you used ruby1.9.1 a.rb on the original, ruby1.9.1 would be used on b.rb, but if you just used ruby a.rb on the original, ruby would be used on b.rb? I'd prefer not to use shebangs, as I'd like it to be able to run on different computers, some of which don't have /usr/bin/env.

Edit: I didn't mean load or require and the like, but spawning new processes (so I can use multiple CPUs).
