    I have worked with Django before and have recently seen the Play framework. Is this the Java community's answer to Django? Any experiences with it? Any performance comparisons with other Java web frameworks? Edit:Almost similar to http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1597086/any-experience-with-play-java-web-development-framework, the responses, unfortunately don't say much about the framework.

  • Distributed Computing Framework (.NET) - Specifically for CPU Instensive operations

    I am currently researching the options that are available (both Open Source and Commercial) for developing a distributed application. "A distributed system consists of multiple autonomous computers that communicate through a computer network." Wikipedia The application is focused on distributing highly cpu intensive operations (as opposed to data intensive) so I'm sure MapReduce solutions don't fit the bill. Any framework that you can recommend ( + give a brief summary of any experience or comparison to other frameworks ) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • What is your experience with Nitrogen on Erlang?

    I've been checking out the Nitrogen Project which is supposed to be the most mature web development framework for Erlang. Erlang, as a language, is extremely impressive. However, with regards to Nitrogen, what I am not too keen about is using Erlang's rather uncommon syntax (unless you're native in PROLOG) to build UIs. What is your experience with it as opposed to other mainstream web frameworks such as Django or Rails?

And it seems to me that only Django is working faster than the GAE implementation.     Our codebase where I work is .NET 2.0. For our new assembly/DLLs/web applications I would love to take advantage of what 3.5 has to offer. Can one mix .NET frameworks(per assembly) in a solution?     I work with Zend Framework a lot and I just took a peek at Kohana, and it strikes me as odd that this is a typical scenario in these frameworks: throw Some_Componenents_Exception( 'invalid argument' ); Where I believe this wouldn't be mouch more useful: throw Some_Components_InvalidArgumentException( 'whatever discription' ); Because it is easier to catch. I suspect, but immediately admit it's prejudiced, that the former practice is common in the PHP community. Should we, the PHP community, start using these descriptive types of expections more?

  • A lightweight application framework for PHP?

    I have long been a fan of _why's Camping microframework -- lightweight, great for microscopic applications (low concurrency, easy to use and edit and maintain), which is what I do. I'd love to know if there's something similar for PHP; full-blown app frameworks like CakePHP or Symphony are very large for what I do, but I can't seem to find nothing "less". What PHP framework would you prefer, in this situation?

Software built in .NET platform only works when the .NET Framework is installed, and software written in Java only works if the JDK is installed. When I install programs like Firefox, uTorrent, etc., I don't need to have any frameworks (.NET, JDK, etc.) installed. How do I write software that doesn't depend on a framework?

  • Entity Frameworks 4 - Changing the model does not update the T4 self tracking template files

    I am using self tracking entities and have moved the entity classes to another assembly by using 'Add as link' to point to the TT file as mentioned here. Now though, when I update the model (for instance change a property name) the template is not automatically run and so the entity class does not get updated. I can of course manually run the template to get the updates, but it would be easier if it ran automatically in the way it did before I moved the classes. Is there any way to achieve this? Darren.
