  • How do I troubleshoot a problem syncing Google contacts to an iPad?

    I use my MacBook Pro to sync content onto my wife's iPad. (She doesn't have a computer.) She doesn't want all my contacts from the Address Book app on my MBP. But she does want her Google contacts on her iPad. I've tried the following settings in iTunes: I created a group in my address book called "Claire's" (and put just a couple contacts in it), since if one enables "Sync Address Book Contacts" one either has to select "All" or at least one group. I've double-checked her email address in the dialog that comes up after pressing the "Configure" button. But after syncing, only the couple contacts in the "Claire's" group are in the Contacts app on her iPad. I've checked her Google contacts, and she has over 2000. For some reason they're not syncing. How do I find out why they're not? I looked to see if I could just use an app to do the sync on the iPad, but couldn't find one with good ratings. Do you have one to recommend so I can give up struggling with getting this working in iTunes?

  • How would you measure conversion for an iPhone App Download?

    I want to test how users convert from my web page to downloading my iPhone app. Right now the best funnel I figured out was to go through a page that pings Google Analytics and then redirects to an iTunes link. But this funnel only measures conversion for users who got redirected to iTunes and not if they actually downloaded the app once they saw it in iTunes. Anyone knows of a way to measure conversion to the actual download? (I know this is not a coding question but still a problem a app developers would encounter trying to market their app)

  • Using WinAmp to put music on an iPod/iPhone

    Back in the day, with older iPods, you could copy music onto them using Winamp's Music Library. I heard that newer iPods and iPhones have all sort of encryption that prevents this from being fully functional. I'm looking to buy a new iPod soon, and would really like to avoid installing (or at least keeping) a copy of iTunes on my PC. Are solutions still available through WinAmp? Other software? What iPod/iPhone models would work better?

  • Dell Studio 17 with two headphone outs

    Got a Studio 17 with two headphone out jacks. It also has Soundblaster X-Fi Hi Def Audio Software enabled. Would it be possible to use one of the headphone outs as a monitor and the other as a master out with the Soundblaster sofware (for djing), or do you think the two jacks are just one output split into two?

  • iTunes Connect uploading issue

    Too bad that iTunes Connect changed its behavior recently. I'm providing an update to an existing app. I submitted new binary using the Loader without problem on the first try. Then I discovered that different from before, one has to reject the binaries in order to change screenshots. Too bad that the update is in the status of "In Review". Well, I have to rejected my binaries and begin to upload new screenshots, because I don't want to display screenshots of previous version. The new screen shots are uploaded but I'm stuck in "Developer rejected" status. Meaning I cannot upload the binaries and not able to change screenshots from that time on. The following error will appear when click Save Changes in either situations. "There was an error saving changes. Please try again later or contact iTunes Connect Support at [email protected]." I checked the source of the error page and think it's this error id="lcBoxWrapperHeaderTextUpdaterContainer" action="/WebObjects/iTunesConnect.woa/wo/7.0.0.9.7.7.1.1.1.1" errorId="ajaxContainerError" I have reported iTune Connect via the "Contact us" link on this issue but not get any response back for 2 days already. Very disappointing. Did anybody experience similar issue? How did you resolve this?

  • SQL SERVER – Not Possible – Delete From Multiple Table – Update Multiple Table in Single Statement

    There are two questions which I get every single day multiple times. In my gmail, I have created standard canned reply for them. Let us see the questions here. I want to delete from multiple table in a single statement how will I do it? I want to update multiple table in a single statement how will I do it? The answer is – No, You cannot and you should not. SQL Server does not support deleting or updating from two tables in a single update. If you want to delete or update two different tables – you may want to write two different delete or update statements for it. This method has many issues – from the consistency of the data to SQL syntax. Now here is the real reason for this blog post – yesterday I was asked this question again and I replied my canned answer saying it is not possible and it should not be any way implemented that day. In the response to my reply I was pointed out to my own blog post where user suggested that I had previously mentioned this is possible and with demo example. Let us go over my conversation – you may find it interesting. Let us call the user DJ. DJ: Pinal, can we delete multiple table in a single statement or with single delete statement? Pinal: No, you cannot and you should not. DJ: Oh okey, if that is the case, why do you suggest to do that? Pinal: (baffled) I am not suggesting that. I am rather suggesting that it is not possible and it should not be possible. DJ: Hmm… but in that case why did you blog about it earlier? Pinal: (What?) No, I did not. I am pretty confident. DJ: Well, I am confident as well. You did. Pinal: In that case, it is my word against your word. Isn’t it? DJ: I have proof. Do you want to see it that you suggest it is possible? Pinal: Yes, I will be delighted too. The example in the other blog is the example of the cascading delete or cascading update. I think you may want to understand the concept of the foreign keys and cascading update/delete. The concept of cascading exists to maintain data integrity. If there primary keys get deleted the update or delete reflects on the foreign key table to maintain the key integrity and data consistency. SQL Server follows ANSI Entry SQL with regard to referential integrity between PrimaryKey and ForeignKey columns which requires the inserting, updating, and deleting of data in related tables to be restricted to values that preserve the integrity. This is all together different concept than deleting multiple values in a single statement. When I hear that someone wants to delete or update multiple table in a single statement what I assume is something very similar to following. DELETE/UPDATE Table 1 (cols) Table 2 (cols) VALUES … which is not valid statement/syntax as well it is not ASNI standards as well. I guess, after this discussion with DJ, I realize I need to do a blog post so I can add the link to this blog post in my canned answer.   • How to setup an iTunes library to use between two Macs?

    As you can tell this is no where near work related. I have an iMac G5 where my itunes is currently hosted, I have also just got a new MacBook Pro. What I want to be able to do is sync my itunes library from my iMac to my MacBook Pro, that way it can be accessible away from my home network, then if I make any changes to the itunes library (like change a track name) it will sync these changes back once I connect back to the home network. My current itunes contains music, videos, podcasts, playlists and iPhone apps, I would also like iTunes to track play counts collectively between the iMac and the MacBook Pro.

    Hi guys, My application tester has a problem while importing .mobileprovision file into iTunes. As I don't have the device I'm not able to check things out, here is the error message: The provisioning profile "embedded.mobileprovision" could not be imported because an unknown error occurred (0xE800801A).   • iPod Nano 5th gen Album Artwork

    I am an album artwork fan. I just got all of these brand new alternate artwork covers for my albums and singles. Eventually, i got bored of them, and i wanted the original ones back. So i got on iTunes, and changed the original album covers to the primary covers. I synced my ipod, but it still showed the new covers on it, not the originals. I figured a temporary way to fix it, by deleting the new covers i got, making the originals the default. There has to be an easier way, though. p.s. this also works in vice-versa. I will add the new covers, but before i exit, i change the primary cover to the original. When i change it back to the new one, my iPod will still only show the original Thanks for helping!

  • How can I create my own private RSS feed of selected podcasts?

    I would like to be able to browse the Internet and "drag" available MP3 files of various podcast episodes into my own private RSS feed. I would like to then subscribe to this RSS feed with iTunes. Do you know of any applications or services that would do this? (I subscribe to IT Conversations and they have a private RSS feed that you can create of their episodes. I like this feature very much. If only I had such a feature that would work more generally). One of the reasons I am looking for this, that my iPod Touch has problems handling podcast playlists that span multiple RSS feeds.
