  Capgemini has published a recent survey on the state of play of cloud adoption. The report indicates "clear evidence that the business, rather than purely IT, is becoming involved in driving Cloud strategy, and pioneering its use for ‘edge’ growth initiatives."  Ron Tolido, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Applications Continental Europe at Capgemini, was one of the keynote speakers at our Exadata & Manageability Partner Community event in Istanbul in March. • State of Texas delivers Private Cloud Services powered by Oracle Technology

  State of Texas moved to private cloud infrastructure and delivering Infrastructure as a Service , Database as a Service and other Platform as a Service offerings to their 28 state agencies. Todd Kimbriel, Director of eGovernment Division at State of Texas attended Oracle Open World and talked with Oracle's John Foley about their private cloud services offering. Later, Todd participated in the keynote panel of Database as a Service Online Forum> along with Carl Olofson,IDC analyst , Juan Loaiza,SVP Oracle and couple of other Oracle customers. He discussed the IT challenges of  government organizations like state of Texas and the benefits of transitioning to Private cloud including database as a service .

    Ich darf ja keine Namen nennen, aber der Gewinner unserer Umfrage auf der DOAG Konferenz 2012 steht fest und hat sich mit seiner Teilnahme selbst ein erstklassiges Nikolaus-Geschenk gemacht - und zwar ein niegelnagelneues iPad!!! Zugegeben - genau so wie auf dem Bild sieht das iPad des glücklichen Gewinners nicht aus, denn dieser Custom Design Wunsch von mir hätte wahrscheinlich ebenso viel gekostet wie eine ausgewachsene Exadata, aber das wird die Freude nicht trüben. Und freuen können sich auch noch die Gewinner auf den Plätzen 2 bis 5 - nämlich über eine Laptop-Tasche, hochwertigen Stift und Notizmappe aus Leder. Ich freue mich mit den Gewinnern und nicht zuletzt über die rege Teilnahme und vor allem die Ergebnisse der Umfrage. Auch dazu kann ich nicht viel sagen, nur so viel, dass Windows als Server Betriebssystem für Oracle Datenbanken kein Schattendasein führt. In diesem Sinne bin ich gespannt auf die kommende DOAG Datenbank Konferenz im Mai 2013, auf der ich hoffentlich die Gelegenheit bekommen werde, um die Oracle 12c Datenbank auf Windows Server 2012 und Windows 8 vorzustellen. Keynote Sprecher ist übrigens Günther Stürner - das Highlight der Konferenz.

  Great keynote and I don’t like keynotes.. Seeing the great breadth of large and small devices and the number of manufacturers along with the software vision for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 was inspiring. Jordan Rudess demonstrates Tachyon on Windows 8 Then he played for a while too..   I especially liked Steve Balmers 82” slate!! • Java EE@Java Day Taipei 2014

  Java Day Taipei 2014 was held at the Taipei International Convention Center on August 1st. Organized by Oracle University, it is one of the largest Java developer events in Taiwan. This was another successful year for Java Day Taipei with a fully sold out venue. In addition to Oracle speakers like me, Steve Chin and Naveen Asrani, the event also featured a bevy of local speakers including Taipei Java community leaders. Topics included Java SE, Java EE, JavaFX and Big Data. I delivered a keynote on Java EE 7/Java EE 8 as well as a talks on aligning the JavaScript ecosystem with Java EE 7 and using NoSQL solutions in Java EE applications. • GlassFish Downloads - Where? (reminder)

  Whether you're looking for the open source edition, stable and supported builds, promoted or event nightly builds, they are all in one place on this download page which is linked off of the main glassfish.org welcome page. At the time of this writing (Nov. 2011), the latest stable release is GlassFish 3.1.1 (open source bits, supported Oracle GlassFish Server). The all-in-one Download page also contains links to the developer builds of both 3.1.2 (see plans here) as well as the promoted builds for the 4.0 version (plans) which was used to deliver the keynote "PaaS" demo at the recent JavaOne and Devoxx conferences.

  Phil Rogers, AMD Corporate Fellow and HSA Foundation President, joined Oracle on stage to discuss Project Sumatra, which was recently approved in the OpenJDK Community. Project Sumatra will explore how Java can be extended to support heterogeneous computing models for improved performance and power consumption.Oracle plans to propose Project Nashorn, a new JavaScript engine for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), later this year in the OpenJDK Community. Oracle expects to enhance Project Nashorn with the support of several other OpenJDK Community contributors, including IBM, Red Hat and Twitter.The OpenJDK Community continues to host the development of the reference implementation of Java SE 8.
