• A frequently updated mixed bag blog OR several seldom updated niche sites?

  Background I am a member of the website HubPages where I have about a hundred articles (and I'm always writing more.) Anyway, HubPages revenue model is 40% ad-share for them and 60% ad share for users. While the userbase there is really friendly, the site is REALLY slow, buggy and there is a ton of content on HubPages that is copied from other sources. Upon flagging these articles it takes a ton of time for mods to remove it and it's just generally dragging down my stuff. Furthermore, HubPages was hit really hard by Google's Panda Update: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz=1B3GGLL_enUS426US426&tbm=nws&q=google+panda& Aside from the temporary problems I would deal with when removing content from HubPages and putting it on my own domain (duplicate content, etc) I have another problem. Which would be the best for my articles? I have tons of articles in a wide variety of niches and would like to do what would help them perform the best. I'm not a huge niche writer and have received wide criticism from the HubPages community for my articles not performing as well as they could because I don't use enough keywords within the text of my articles. I prefer to write more naturally in a way that would appeal to an audience instead of keyword stuff. Anyway, this is aside the point. My Question After removing my articles from HubPages, should I put them on one domain or spread them across multiple domains grouped sort of by topic. For example: a-bunch-of-articles.com OR travel-articles.com and financial-articles.com and knitting-articles.com (I know those domains aren't available, but it's just kind of an example.) Here are the pros and cons of each: a mixed bag site like a-bunch-of-articles.com may not perform as well because of its mixed-bag nature a mixed bag site would be updated far more frequently than several niche sites... some niche sites may be updated so infrequently that a year could pass before one sees a new article a mixed bag site would be like putting all my eggs is one basket, where having several niche sites would spread out my portfolio, so to speak. a mixed bag site would be cheaper, $14 (two year registration) to start out with and hosting and I'm good to go. a mixed bag site wouldn't allow me to easily target keywords, but then again isn't HubPages pretty much a mixed bag site?

• SnagIt Live Writer Plug-in updated

  I've updated my free SnagIt Live Writer plug-in again as there have been a few issues with the new release of SnagIt 11. It appears that TechSmith has trimmed the COM object and removed a bunch of redundant functionality which has broken the older plug-in. I also updated the layout and added SnagIt's latest icons to the form. Finally I've moved the source code to Github for easier browsing and downloading for anybody interested and easier updating for me. This plug-in is not new - I created it a number of years back, but I use the hell out it both for my blogging and for a few internal apps that with MetaWebLogApi to update online content. The plug-in makes it super easy to add captured image content directly into a post and upload it to the server. What does it do? Once installed the plug-in shows up in the list of plug-ins. When you click it launches a SnagIt Capture Dialog: Typically you set the capture settings once, and then save your settings. After that a single click or ENTER press gets you off capturing. If you choose the Show in SnagIt preview window option, the image you capture is is displayed in the preview editor to mark up images, which is one of SnagIt's great strengths IMHO. The image editor has a bunch of really nice effects for framing and marking up and highlighting of images that is really sweet. Here's a capture from a previous image in the SnagIt editor where I applied the saw tooth cutout effect: Images are saved to disk and can optionally be deleted immediately, since Live Writer creates copies of original images in its own folders before uploading the files. No need to keep the originals around typically. The plug-in works with SnagIt Versions 7 and later. It's a simple thing of course - nothing magic here, but incredibly useful at least to me. If you're using Live Writer and you own a copy of SnagIt do yourself a favor and grab this and install it as a plug-in.   I have updated some url's and files in robots.txt file to block url's and files from google search results but, still files displaying in search results. As per a suggestion from a site I tried to update the robots.txt by below steps. In Google Webmaster tools, Health - Fetch as Google - type the url and click the fetch button. but, still files displaying in search results. Note: in Google Webmaster tools, Health - Blocked URL's - robots.txt file - downloaded date looks two dates back.

• Is Ubuntu's Gnome being updated?

  What I'm wondering is this - is Ubuntu-native Gnome being updated? I'm asking because I notice a discrepancy - Unity had a problem before in the new mail indicator staying blue if you read the message directly in Thunderbird when it arrives instead of via clicking the indicator itself. This has been fixed in 12.04 from what I've noticed. But transitioning to Gnome returned this issue. Will this fix be applied to Gnome too, or has Gnome been abandoned in terms of staying up to date?

• When or how often are the repositries updated?

  I manually installed ircd-hybrid via it's source, got it up and running perfectly, but was unable to get a init.d script working. So I backed up the config file, removed it and grabbed it from the repository, planning to just copy over the config file and have everything working. The version from the repository seems to be and older version that the one I grabbed from the official ircd-hybrid website, with slightly different config files. Can someone tell me how often the repositories are updated for third party software?

• Problem with Numlock light and remapping keyboard

  I upgraded to Ubuntu 13.10. And there are two problem: Numlock is on. But after I press Ctrl+Space (hotkey for IBus, (default in 13.10 is Super+Space)), Numlock is off and I must press Numlock button twice to enable Numlock. About remapping keyboard, because my keyboard have some broken key, so I am using xmodmap to remap my keyboard (config file for xmodmap is $HOME/.xmodmap). But when I switch keyboard layout (I mentioned above), everything changed to default, and I must run xmodmap .xmodmap to remap keyboard again. When using Ubuntu 13.04, everything is good. How to solve my problems? UPDATE: 1. I am using two keyboard layout: English (US) and Unikey (from ibus-unikey package). 2. If I change key board layout using menu on Unity panel, no first problem.

• How to better adjust more then 2 keyboard layouts

  From time to time I have to use characters not present in my two layouts: Latin and Cyrillic and instead digging in Character map I thought to additionally add 2 more keyboard layouts. My issue with this approach is that most of the time I use just two layouts, and while changing to different layout (Alt-Shift) I now have to press couple of times to switch to previous layout. It's not just number of pressings, but I have to press two keys at once and track keyboard indicator which is distracting. I tried some options presented in keyboard settings, but I think there is no option that I would like - change just between first two layouts on Alt-Shift, and if I want to use additional layout I can choose it from keyboard indicator drop-down menu. Any ideas how this might be possible

  I'm used to use the keyboard layout option to type the accentuated characters in Esperanto. This option is in System Settings Keyboard Layout Options Adding Esperanto circumflexes (supersigno) To the corresponding key in a Qwerty keyboard. It worked great but since I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, this option has no effect. I'm using Ubuntu in French with the keyboard layout French (variant) and Gnome-shell. I tested on another computer with Unity and there is the same issue. Is it a known issue? I did not find anything about it…

I am FINALLY ready to use only div, li, CSS for the layout, but my question is, what is the proper way to layout pages in VS2010? • Silverlight Grid Layout is pain

   I think one of the biggest mistake of Silverlight and WPF is its Grid layout.Imagine you have a data form with 2 columns and 5 rows. You need to place new row after the first one. As a result you need to rewrite Grid.Rows and Grid.Columns in all rows belows. But the worst thing of such approach is that it is static. So you need predefine all your rows and columns. As a result creating of simple dynamic datagrid or dataform become impossible... So the question if why best practices of HTML and Adobe Flex were dropped????If anybody have tried to port Flex Grid layout to silverlight please mail me or drop a comment.

  First of all, sorry for my English, I is not my native language. I recently updated my PC from ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10. Now “Software sources” crashes when I try to open it directly from Unity or from Ubuntu Software Center ? Software sources. When I try to open “Update manager”, I get the following error message. Note that the internet connection WROKS! W:Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/rye/ubuntuone-extras/ubuntu/dists/quantal/main/source/Sources 404 Not Found, ... ... ... E:Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Please, can somebody help me on this? JS
