    Ok, I admit my situation is special There is a data system that supports SQL-92 and JDBC interface However the SQL requets are pretty expensive, and in my application I need to retreive the same data multiple times and aggregate it ("group by") on different fields to show different dimensions of the same data. For example on one screen I have three tables that show the same set or records but aggregated by City (1st grid), by Population (2nd grid), by number of babies (3rd grid) This amounts to 3 SQL queries (which is very slow), UNLESS anyone of you can suggest any idea any library from apache commons or from google code, so that I can select all records into ResultSet and get 3 arrays of data group by different fields from this single ResultSet. Am I'm missing some obvious and unexpected solution to this problem?

    I have TableA in a many-to-many relationship with TableC via TableB. That is, TableA TableB TableC id | val fkeyA | fkeyC id | data I wish the do select sum(val) on TableA, grouping by the relationship(s) to TableC. Every entry in TableA has at least one relationship with TableC. For example, TableA 1 | 25 2 | 30 3 | 50 TableB 1 | 1 1 | 2 2 | 1 2 | 2 2 | 3 3 | 1 3 | 2 should output 75 30 since rows 1 and 3 in Table have the same relationships to TableC, but row 2 in TableA has a different relationship to TableC. How can I write a SQL query for this?

  • Request for advice about class design, inheritance/aggregation

    I have started writing my own WebDAV server class in .NET, and the first class I'm starting with is a WebDAVListener class, modelled after how the HttpListener class works. Since I don't want to reimplement the core http protocol handling, I will use HttpListener for all its worth, and thus I have a question. What would the suggested way be to handle this: Implement all the methods and properties found inside HttpListener, just changing the class types where it matters (ie. the GetContext + EndGetContext methods would return a different class for WebDAV contexts), and storing and using a HttpListener object internally Construct WebDAVListener by passing it a HttpListener class to use? Create a wrapper for HttpListener with an interface, and constrct WebDAVListener by passing it an object implementing this interface? If going the route of passing a HttpListener (disguised or otherwise) to the WebDAVListener, would you expose the underlying listener object through a property, or would you expect the program that used the class to keep a reference to the underlying HttpListener? Also, in this case, would you expose some of the methods of HttpListener through the WebDAVListener, like Start and Stop, or would you again expect the program that used it to keep the HttpListener reference around for all those things? My initial reaction tells me that I want a combination. For one thing, I would like my WebDAVListener class to look like a complete implementation, hiding the fact that there is a HttpListener object beneath it. On the other hand, I would like to build unit-tests without actually spinning up a networked server, so some kind of mocking ability would be nice to have as well, which suggests I would like the interface-wrapper way. One way I could solve this would be this: public WebDAVListener() : WebDAVListener(new HttpListenerWrapper()) { } public WebDAVListener(IHttpListenerWrapper listener) { } And then I would implement all the methods of HttpListener (at least all those that makes sense) in my own class, by mostly just chaining the call to the underlying HttpListener object. What do you think? Final question: If I go the way of the interface, assuming the interface maps 1-to-1 onto the HttpListener class, and written just to add support for mocking, is such an interface called a wrapper or an adapter?

    Hi, I have to create a hash of the form h[:bill] = ["Billy", "NA", 20, "PROJ_A"] by login where 20 is the cumulative number of hours reported by the login for all task transactions returned by the query where each login has multiple reported transactions. Did I do this in a bad way or this seems alright. h = Hash.new Task.find_each(:include => [:user], :joins => :user, :conditions => ["from_date >= ? AND from_date <= ?     Hi folks, I'm trying to compute the average of a field over various subsets of a queryset. Player.objects.order_by('-score').filter(sex='male').aggregate(Avg('level')) This works perfectly! But... if I try to compute it for the top 50 players it does not work. Player.objects.order_by('-score').filter(sex='male')[:50].aggregate(Avg('level')) This last one returns the exact same result as the query above it, which is wrong. What am I doing wrong? Help would be very much appreciated!

  • WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - unable to access data

    I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help.   • I think "/lib/modules/$(uname -r)/build" points to incorrect folder

    I compile/create my own deb packages of kernel with: make-kpkg --rootcmd fakeroot --initrd --append-to-version=$version --revision=1 kernel_image kernel_headers But when I install both packages, in /lib/modules/(*name_kernel_compiled*) it creates two links, sources and build, pointing to folder with sources, from I've compiled. sources link is correct but build should point to /usr/src/linux-(version kernel), don't you think?

  • Does a "nofollow" attribute on a link prevent URL discovery by search engines?

    I know that nofollow prevents link juice from being passed across a link. But if search engine robots discover a link with a nofollow on it, will they add that link to their crawl queue? In other words, if I create a link to a brand new page and put a rel=nofollow attribute on that link, will it prevent search engine bots (particularly Googlebot) from crawling the page. (Assuming that this link remains the only link into that page.) I've read conflicting reports about this over the years and I'm looking for authoritative references about the current state of affairs. Official statements from Google or published results of independent testing would be ideal.

  • Web master tools is throwing out 404 errors on link not on page

    Webmaster tools is showing thousands of 404 errors, where pages on the site are referring to another incorrect url. For example, URL not found www.plantify.co.uk/shop/=, linked from http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/gift-voucher and http://www.plantify.co.uk/shop/special-plant-offers. I obviously have checked the source and cannot find any references to this link on any page. The only consistent issue is that it only seems to report this error on pages with two section i.e. www.plantify.co.uk/shop does not report any error whilst all pages with www.plantify.co.uk/shop/xxx (where xxx can be several different pages such as gift-voucher) all report this. I cannot seem to duplicate this error. I have run a link checker (we use Screaming Frog) and it does not report this error. I have fetched these pages as a bot, and these do not report this error. I am at a total loss. I cannot even duplicate the issue, but it is most definitely an issue, as Webmaster Tools is reporting new errors every day. Is this perhaps google bot doing its own thing?

    TL;DR: I unplugged my network to move my desk, and now downloading via my DIR-655's Ethernet LAN bridge is 10-30x slower than the Ethernet switch it's plugged into. Background My network is SMC cable modem <-> Cisco firewall <-> Netgear switch <-> D-Link WiFi† | | | | SMC8014 ASA-5505 GS608v2 gigE DIR-655 rev A3 gigE †The DIR-655 is used as an access point, not a router (although what D-Link calls an access point, I'd call a bridge). The "WAN" port is unused; the Netgear connects to the built-in 4-port Ethernet LAN switch, inside the built- in router/firewall. Endpoints: MacBook Pro 17" mid-2010 iPhone 4S Fedora 12 Linux server running reasonably fast dual-Athlon X2, VelociRaptors, etc. All cables are <10 feet, mostly CAT-5e, some CAT-6, all premade. All WiFi endpoints are within three feet of the D-Link. Yesterday I unplugged and rearranged stuff, and now connecting via the D-Link - even through the wired switch, right next to the incoming network cable - is 30x slower than connecting directly to the Netgear switch, on both my MacBook and iPhone. How I'm measuring "slower" I'm mostly using http://speedtest.net, which of course only really measures broadband speeds. I've also installed http://www.speedtest.net/mini.php on my local server, but can't test the iPhone with that. Since ssh is choppy just with slow typing, I don't believe it's a throttling-type problem either; that's not a lot of bandwidth. What I've tried Swapping all "good" and "bad" cables Re-plugging "bad" cable from D-Link to Netgear and watching it be the "good" cable pulling cables away from power lines Verify that the Mac auto-detects the D-Link as gigE Try to verify the link speed of the D-Link <- Netgear connection, but the firmware doesn't report that Verify that the D-Link sees no TX/RX errors or collisions Use different Ethernet ports on both Netgear and D-Link Reset the D-Link to factory settings Upgrade the D-Link firmware from 1.21 to 1.35NA, 2010/11/12, the latest Reboot everything at least once On the Mac, disable Wi-Fi during the Ethernet tests, and unplug Ethernet during the Wi-Fi tests Using iStumbler, verify that the D-Link isn't picking overloaded Wi-Fi channels (usually just 1-5 neighbors on my and adjacent channels, average for my apt building) Verify that the only client connected to the Wi-Fi was the iPhone Verify that nothing was being chatty on my network according to the WISH log Enable and disable all sorts of D-Link settings, including forcing WAN auto-detect to gigE So. I don't mind buying a new access point—I wouldn't mind having a dual-link network—but as a guy who's been networking since gated v4 was a drastic rewrite, and who often used physical sniffers in the days before Wireshark, I'm baffled. I hate being baffled. What could I possibly have changed that would result in this? How can I measure it? All I can think of is a static zap—thick carpet, socks, HVAC—but I didn't feel one, and does that really happen anymore? Can I test if it's Ethernet vs. TCP layer slowness? I'm not familiar with modern network utilities; it's hard to Google without hitting "Q: Why is my network slow? A: Is your microwave on?" If I don't get an answer here, will someone big and powerful help me migrate it to serverfault without getting screamed back here? In the words of Inigo Montoya, "I must know."   • Why does the MSCVRT library generate conflicts at link time?

    I am building a project in Visual C++ 2008, which is an example MFC-based app for a static C++ class library I will be using in my own project soon. While building the Debug configuration, I get the following: warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRT' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library After using the recommended option (by adding "msvcrt" to the "Ignore specific library" field in the project linker settings for the Debug configuration), the program links and runs fine. However, I'd like to find out why this conflict occured, why do I have to ignore a critical library, and if I'm to expect problems later I if add the ignore, or what happens if I don't (because the program builds anyway). At the same time, the Release configuration warns: warning LNK4075: ignoring '/EDITANDCONTINUE' due to '/OPT:ICF' specification warning LNK4098: defaultlib 'MSVCRTD' conflicts with use of other libs; use /NODEFAULTLIB:library I'm guessing that the "D" suffix means this is the debug version of the vc++ runtime, no idea why this gets used this time. Anyway, adding "msvcrtd" to the ignore field causes lots of link errors of the form: error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol imp_CrtDbgReportW Any insight greatly appreciated.

  • Simulating O_NOFOLLOW (2): Is this other approach safe?

    As a follow-up question to this one, I thought of another approach which builds off of @caf's answer for the case where I want to append to file name and create it if it does not exist. Here is what I came up with: Create a temporary directory with mode 0700 in a system temporary directory on the same filesystem as file name. Create an empty, temporary, regular file (temp_name) in the temporary directory (only serves as placeholder). Open file name for reading only, just to create it if it does not exist. The OS may follow name if it is a symbolic link; I don't care at this point. Make a hard link to name at temp_name (overwriting the placeholder file). If the link call fails, then exit. (Maybe someone has come along and removed the file at name, who knows?) Use lstat on temp_name (now a hard link). If S_ISLNK(lst.st_mode), then exit. open temp_name for writing, append (O_WRONLY | O_APPEND). Write everything out. Close the file descriptor. unlink the hard link. Remove the temporary directory. (All of this, by the way, is for an open source project that I am working on. You can view the source of my implementation of this approach here.) Is this procedure safe against symbolic link attacks? For example, is it possible for a malicious process to ensure that the inode for name represents a regular file for the duration of the lstat check, then make the inode a symbolic link with the temp_name hard link now pointing to the new, symbolic link? I am assuming that a malicious process cannot affect temp_name.

I have created the shares meshare and youshare on \\theirserver already, with the files they will hold. How to accomplish this from command line (I will batch it)?
