  • How to make one CPU to be used simulataneously be three different users

    As a bootstrapping start-up we are thinking of saving on the IT hardware cost by making more use of the hardware that we have. As a solopreneur I have a laptop config : intel core2duo processor, 3Gb RAM and 250 GB RAM. Now we are planning to increase our team to 3 members. Will like your suggestions on the nest cost-effective step that I can take so that I can use the computing power of the existing laptop to act as a kind of server and then buy to more monitors where the new recruits can do the daily work on and they need to have different login id and access and they dont need access to all the files/applications as are available in my laptop. We use internet intensively to do our day to day activity. Please share you experience, whether you think this is a good ploy or there is any other more effective way of achieving the same result.

  • Can a Cisco 3550 be used as router?

    I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask such a question, but I'll give it a shot anyway. If it isn't, let me know, and I'll remove this post. Anyway, very recently I picked up a Cisco 3550 just to play around with networking and to familiarize myself with Cisco's command line configuration due to the fact that I will be working an electrical engineering internship in which I will have to deal with various networking issues (yes, I agree that a CSNA would be much better suited for this task, but since its part of the job requirements, I'm willing to learn about it). What I was wondering, is whether or not my 3550 can act as a router. I know its a L3 switch, but does that mean it can take the place of a router?

    I have potential clients that all use SAP. To avoid silent push back from IT, we want to make sure we don't add extra complexity to their job if the client (our client internal to the company is not IT) wants to adopt our SaaS. One way to avoid headaches is to add support for LDAP in our SaaS (a bit of work, but nothing major) ahead of time and make sure to mention that to IT. I really know nothing about SAP. Does SAP use an internal or external LDAP server usually? Updated question: A Company relies on an Asset management product from SAP. If I wanted to provide a SaaS that shares space in their workflow, is it advisable to use the SAP product authentication service (if it exists), and if so, do they provide an API?

    i want to know the string matching algorithms used by Apache Lucene. i have been going through the index file format used by lucene given here. it seems that lucene stores all words occurring in the text as is with their frequency of occurrence in each document. but as far as i know that for efficient string matching it would need to preprocess the words occurring in the Documents. example: search for "iamrohitbanga is a user of stackoverflow" (use fuzzy matching) in some documents. it is possible that there is a document containing the string "rohit banga" to find that the substrings rohit and banga are present in the search string, it would use some efficient substring matching. i want to know which algorithm it is. also if it does some preprocessing which function call in the java api triggers it.

  • Determine fonts used in postscript (.ps) file

    Given a postscript file that has the following header %!PS-Adobe-3.0 I would like to list all fonts used in the file. The output does not have to be perfect, but I need to make sure I get all references to any font being used. I am aware there are different types of fonts, and that a font may or may not be embedded in the postscript file. My current best idea is to grep/search for the word Font case insensitively and go from there. Will this get me all the font references? Any better way to achieve this? I tend to use .NET/C# for development purposes, but any solution is appreciated. Thanks, Bernard

    I'm creating class library with some commonly used classes like persons, addresses etc. This library will be used in an multilingual application, and I am looking for the most convenient way to represent a persons gender. Ideally I would like to be able to code like this: Person person = new Person { Gender = Genders.Male, FirstName = "Nice", LastName = "Dude" } if (person.Gender == Genders.Male) Console.WriteLine("person is Male"); Console.WriteLine(person.Gender); //Should output: Male Console.WriteLine(person.Gender.ToString("da-DK")); //Should output the name of the gender in the language provided List<Gender> genders = Genders.GetAll(); foreach(Gender gender in genders) { Console.WriteLine(gender.ToString()); Console.WriteLine(gender.ToString("da-DK")); } What would you do?     Install Shield Premier 2009: Basic MSI Project I have a dll that is supposed to be removed during uninstall. But this dll is being used by explorer.exe, it is used for generating windows explorer context menus with their icons(same as the menu items, icons we see when we right click on any file/folder and see the WinRAR items, icons). Manually, I have to unregister the dll and close explorer.exe from task manager and again run explorer.exe. Then I can delete the dll. So from Install Shield how to delete this dll without any problem(as we see while uninstalling WinRAR or other software there is no problem no message boxes shown and the related context menu icons also removed).

    I was looking for a built-in attribute to specify that a type is immutable, and I found only System.ComponentModel.ImmutableObjectAttribute. Using Reflector, I checked where it was used, and it seems that the only public class that uses it is System.Drawing.Image... WTF? It could have been used on string, int or any of the primitive types, but Image is definitely not immutable, there are plenty of ways to alter its internal state (using a Graphics or the Bitmap.SetPixel method for instance). So the only class in the BCL that is explicitly declared as immutable, is mutable! Or am I missing something?

  • Determine if Alpha Channel is Used in an Image

    As I'm bringing in images into my program, I want to determine if: they have an alpha-channel if that alpha-channel is used #1 is simple enough with using Image.IsAlphaPixelFormat. For #2 though, other than looping through every single pixel, is there a simple way I can determine if at least one of the pixels has an alpha channel that is used (i.e. set to some other value than 255)? All I need back is a boolean and then I'll make determination as to whether to save it out to 32-bit or 24-bit.

    Hi all I know that generics are used to achieve type safety and i frequently read that they are largely used in custom collections. But why actually do we need to have it generic? For example, Why cant i use string[] instead of List<string> Lets consider i declare generic class and it has a property X T x; If i provide a method for the class which does x = x + 1; what does it mean actually? I dono what T is actually going to be and i dono what x = x + 1 going to perform actually? If i'm not able to do my own manipulations in my methods how the generics are going to be help me anyway?
