  • Fedora 16 can connect to samba share using smbclient but not in nautilus 3.2.1

    - by Nathan Jones
I have a machine running Ubuntu 11.10 Server acting as a Samba server to share my home directory. Everything works fine on my Windows 7 machine, but on my Fedora 16 laptop, if I use Nautilus to try to access the share using smb://192.168.0.8/nathan in the location bar, it just has the loading cursor and does nothing. It never shows any errors, nothing. Using smbclient works just fine, but I'd like to get it working in Nautilus. I know that there can be problems with SELinux and Samba, so I created a file called booleans.local that contains samba_enable_home_dirs=1. My smb.conf file looks like this: # For Unix password sync to work on a Debian GNU/Linux system, the following # parameters must be set (thanks to Ian Kahan <<[email protected]> for # sending the correct chat script for the passwd program in Debian Sarge). passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u passwd chat = *Enter\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *Retype\snew\s*\spassword:* %n\n *password\supdated\ssuccessfully* . # This boolean controls whether PAM will be used for password changes # when requested by an SMB client instead of the program listed in # 'passwd program'. • Debugging Samba/CUPS printer sharing with Windows

    - by mrdrbob
I've got a HP Deskjet hooked up to a Slackware 12.2 box. I've got CUPS set up and can print a test page from the box just fine. I've also got Samba set up and have a couple file shares that work fine. I'm trying to share that HP Deskjet out via Samba, but I can't get it to show up in any Windows system. I see the server and its file shares in Windows networking, but when I open the Printers, no printer shows up. Running net view \\servername from the command line lists the file shares, but no printers. Here's the pertinent part of my smb.conf, if that helps: [global] workgroup = HOMENET security = share hosts allow = 192.168.1. 192.168.2. 127. load printers = yes printcap name = cups printing = cups log file = /var/log/samba.%m max log size = 50 [printers] comment = All Printers path = /var/spool/samba browseable = no public = yes writable = no printable = yes guest only = yes Can anyone give me some pointers as to where to start looking for potential causes? Update: Running testparm shows no errors. Here's the output (minus the file shares): [global] workgroup = HOMENET security = SHARE log file = /var/log/samba.%m max log size = 50 printcap name = cups hosts allow = 192.168.1., 192.168.2., 127. • Conky starts above windows in Ubuntu Maverick

    - by DesertIvy
Hey guys, I did not run into this problem until I upgraded my Ubuntu box to Maverick Meerkat (10.10). Basically, whenever I start my computer, conky runs as expected, except it gets drawn over any windows that I load (see screenshot). To fix this for a single session, I simply restart conky by running killall conky; conky in a terminal. Conky gets re-drawn below active windows (namely, only appearing on my desktop), and does not have the border/drop-shadow, but I have to do this every time I start a new session. Is there a simple way to fix this? I have a small shell script that I run on startup, but it does not seem to solve the problem. #!/bin/bash sleep 10 && conky; sleep 5 && killall conky; conky; Below is the non-text part of my .conkyrc file. # Conky settings # background yes update_interval 1 cpu_avg_samples 2 net_avg_samples 2 override_utf8_locale yes double_buffer yes no_buffers yes text_buffer_size 2048 #imlib_cache_size 0 temperature_unit fahrenheit # Window specifications # own_window yes own_window_type override own_window_transparent yes own_window_hints undecorate,sticky,skip_taskbar,skip_pager,below border_inner_margin 0 border_outer_margin 0 minimum_size 200 250 maximum_width 200 alignment tr gap_x 220 gap_y 280 # Graphics settings # draw_shades no draw_outline no draw_borders no draw_graph_borders no # Text settings # use_xft yes xftfont caviar dreams:size=8 xftalpha 0.5 uppercase no temperature_unit celsius default_color FFFFFF # Lua Load # lua_load ~/.lua/scripts/clock_rings.lua lua_draw_hook_pre clock_rings

  • Samba PDC share slow with LDAP backend

    - by hmart
The scenario I have a SUSE SLES 11.1 SP1 machine as Samba master PDC with LDAP backend. In one share there are Database files for a Client-Server application. I log XP and Windows 7 machines to the local domain (example.local), the login is a little slow but works. In the client computers have an executable which opens, reads and writes the database files from the server share. The Problem When running Samba with LDAP password backend the client application runs VERY SLOW with a maximum transfer rate of 2500 MBit per second. If disable LDAP the client app speed increases 20x, with transfer rate of 50Mbit/sec and running smoothly. I'm doing test with just two users and two machines, so concurrency, or LDAP size shouldn't be the problem here. The suspect LDAP, Smb.conf [global] section configuration. The Question What can I do? I've googled a lot, but still have no answer. • How to fix Apache from crashing with PHP+Curl on an SSH request?

    - by Jason Cohen
My Apache process segfaults whenever I call curl_exec() from PHP with an "https://" URL. If I use http instead of https as the URL transport, it works perfectly, so I know curl and the other curl options are correct. I can use curl from the command-line on that server using the https version of the URL and it works perfectly, so I know the remote server is responding correctly, the cert isn't expired, etc.. • Connection refused after installing vsftp on Ubuntu 8.04 with fail2ban

    - by Patrick
I have been using an Ubuntu 8.04 server with fail2ban for a while now (12+ months) and using ftp over SSH without any problems. I have a new user that needs to put files onto the server from an IP modem. I have installed vsftp (sudo apt-get install vsftp) and everything installed correctly. I have created an ftp user on the server following this guide. Whenever I try to connect to the server with my ftp program (filezilla) I get an immediate response of: Connection attempt failed with "ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server". I have looked into fail2ban and cannot find any problems. The iptables setup is: Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination fail2ban-ssh tcp -- anywhere anywhere multiport dports ssh Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT) target prot opt source destination Chain fail2ban-ssh (1 references) target prot opt source destination RETURN all -- anywhere anywhere VSFTP config file (commented lines removed) listen=YES anonymous_enable=NO local_enable=YES write_enable=YES dirmessage_enable=YES xferlog_enable=YES connect_from_port_20=YES chown_uploads=YES chown_username=[username] secure_chroot_dir=/var/run/vsftpd pam_service_name=vsftpd rsa_cert_file=/etc/ssl/certs/ssl-cert-snakeoil.pem rsa_private_key_file=/etc/ssl/private/ssl-cert-snakeoil.key Any ideas on what is preventing access to the server?

  • Can't seem to stop Postfix backscatter

    - by Ian
I've just migrated to a Postfix system and can't seem to stop the backscatter messages to unknown addresses on the site. I have a file, validrcpt, that lists all the valid emails on the site - about eight of them. Yet when a message is sent to a non-existent address, instead of just dropping it, postfix is replying with a "Recipient address rejected: User unknown in virtual mailbox table" email. Do I have something set wrong? I've read http://www.postfix.org/BACKSCATTER_README.html but unless I'm caffeine deficient, I don't see what's happening and perhaps I'm just to used to my old qmail setup. • Strange UIKit bug, table view row stays selected

    - by Can Berk Güder
I'm facing what appears to be a UIKit bug, and it takes the combination of two less commonly used features to reproduce it, so please bear with me here. I have quite the common view hierarchy: UITabBarController -> UINavigationController -> UITableViewController and the table view controller pushes another table view controller onto the navigation controller's stack when a row is selected. There's absolutely nothing special or fancy in the code here. However, the second UITableViewController, the "detail view controller" if you will, does two things: It sets hidesBottomBarWhenPushed to YES in its init method, so the tab bar is hidden when this controller is pushed: - (id)initWithStyle:(UITableViewStyle)style { if(self = [super initWithStyle:style]) { self.hidesBottomBarWhenPushed = YES; } return self; } It calls setToolbarHidden:NO animated:YES and setToolbarHidden:YES animated:YES on self.navigationController in viewWillAppear: and viewWillDisappear: respectively, causing the UIToolbar provided by UINavigationController to be displayed and hidden with animations: - (void)viewWillAppear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillAppear:animated]; [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:NO animated:YES]; } - (void)viewWillDisappear:(BOOL)animated { [super viewWillDisappear:animated]; [self.navigationController setToolbarHidden:YES animated:YES]; } Now, if the second UITableViewController was pushed by selecting the row at the bottom of the screen (it doesn't have to be the last row) in the first controller, this row does not automatically get deselected when the user immediately or eventually returns to the first controller. Further, the row cannot be deselected by calling deselectRowAtIndexPath:animated: on self.tableView in viewWillAppear: or viewDidAppear: in the first controller. I'm guessing this is a bug in UITableViewController's drawing code which of course only draws visible rows, but unfortunately fails to determine correctly if the bottommost row will be visible in this case. I failed to find anything on this on Google or OpenRadar, and was wondering if anyone else on SO had this problem or knew a solution/workaround.

  • Constructing human readable sentences based on a survey

    - by Joshua
The following is a survey given to course attendees to assess an instructor at the end of the course. Communication Skills 1. The instructor communicated course material clearly and accurately. Yes No 2. The instructor explained course objectives and learning outcomes. Yes No 3. In the event of not understanding course materials the instructor was available outside of class. Yes No 4. Was instructor feedback and grading process clear and helpful? Yes No 5. Do you feel that your oral and written skills have improved while in this course? Yes No We would like to summarize each attendees selection based on the choices chosen by him. If the provided answers were [No, No, Yes, Yes, Yes]. Then we would summarize this as "The instructor was not able to summarize course objectives and learning outcomes clearly, but was available for usually helpful outside of class. The instructor feedback and grading process was clear and helpful and I feel that my oral and written skills have improved because of this course. Based on the selections chosen by the attendee the summary would be quite different. This leads to many answers based on the choices selected and the number of such questions in the survey. The questions are usually provided by the training organization. How do you come up with a generic solution so that this can be effectively translated into a human readable form. I am looking for tools or libraries (java based), suggestions which will help me create such human readable output. I would like to hide the complexity from the end users as much as possible.

  • Core Data Relationship problem

    - by awattar
    I have a very simple model with two objects: Name and Category. One Name can be in many Categories (it's one way relationship). I'm trying to create 8 Categories every with 8 Names. Example code: NSMutableArray *localArray = [NSMutableArray arrayWithObjects: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g1", @"Name", @"g1", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g2", @"Name", @"g2", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g3", @"Name", @"g3", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g4", @"Name", @"g4", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g5", @"Name", @"g5", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g6", @"Name", @"g6", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g7", @"Name", @"g7", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"g8", @"Name", @"g8", @"Icon", [NSNumber numberWithBool:YES] , @"Male", nil], nil]; NSMutableArray *localArray2 = [NSMutableArray arrayWithObjects: [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test1", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test2", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test3", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test4", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test5", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test6", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test7", @"Name", nil], [NSMutableDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: @"Test8", @"Name", nil], nil]; NSError *error; NSManagedObjectContext *moc = [(AppDelegate *)[[UIApplication sharedApplication] delegate] managedObjectContext]; for(NSMutableDictionary *item in localArray) { NSManagedObject *category = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Category" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Name"]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Icon"] forKey:@"Icon"]; [category setValue:[item objectForKey:@"Male"] forKey:@"Male"]; for(NSMutableDictionary *item2 in localArray2) { NSManagedObject *name = [NSEntityDescription insertNewObjectForEntityForName:@"Name" inManagedObjectContext:managedObjectContext]; [name setValue:[item2 objectForKey:@"Name"] forKey:@"Name"]; [[name mutableSetValueForKey:@"CategoryRelationship"] addObject:category]; } } [moc save:&error]; And here's a problem - i've checked that 8 Categories are saved, 64 Names are saved but only 8 from all Names are connected with any category. So when i query for Names in Categories [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"CategoryRelationship.@count != 0"] there are 8 elements and when [NSPredicate predicateWithFormat:@"CategoryRelationship.@count = 0"] there are 56 elements. What is going one here?

I am aware that passing vdso=0 to kernel can turn this feature off, and that the dynamic linker in glibc can automatic detect and use vdso feature from kernel. Here I met with this problem. There is a RHEL 5.6 box (kernel 2.6.18-238.el5) in my institution where I only have a normal user access, probably suffering from RHEL bug 673616. As I compile a toolchain of linux-headers-3.9/gcc-4.7.2/glibc-2.17/binutils-2.23 on top of it, gcc bootstrap fails in cc1 in stage2 cannnot be run Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. 0x00002aaaaaaca6eb in ?? Both cc1 and the test program can be run on another running RHEL 5.5 (kernel 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5) with gcc-4.7.2/glibc-2.17/binutils-2.23 as normal user. I cannot simply upgrade the box to a newer RHEL version, nor could I turn VDSO off via sysctl or proc. The question is, is there a way to compile glibc so that it turns off VDSO unconditionally?

    - by Abhi
Dear all I have a doubt related to class. For example class A { public: A() { ..... ..... } void cleanup() { .... .... .... } public: UINT a; ULONG b; }; In the above example there are two public section, In first section i am defining constructor and the method and in the second section i am declaring data members. Does the above class i.e. A is correct. Can we do so? If yes then why we needed and in which circumstances we should use it? Also we can do the entire thing in one section then why un necessary we r taking two section...? Thanks and regards Abhineet Agarwal

At first, all pupils got to know Oracle as an enterprise with it’s different departments and it’s particular „business language“. What is hardware and software? Why do companies need a database? Questions as such were tailored and simply illustrated by 13 colleagues from the areas of Sales, Sales Consulting, Support and Recruitment.   Followed by a short introduction about career paths from our female colleagues and their respective departments, the girls decided, according to their interests, which business area they would like to get more insights from. Based on their decision the groups were set up and the girls than discovered the work places. This helped everyone to dive deep into the everyday work life, how the offices are structured and how communication with clients is done via web conferences. All girls were encouraged to take part in the conference together with their Oracle advisor. 12 o´clock – lunch time. After the lunch break, Anja Raack from the Graduate Recruitment team presented more about recruitment topics and gave useful advice on how to write professional emails.   After a short group assignment, where all participants had to identify common mistakes done in an email, a quiz completed this special day. All 5 groups showed a lot of enthusiasm during this game but no one had to worry as every single participant was rewarded with a prize and certificate.   To sum it up, we were very proud to host the girls for half a day and were impressed by their dedication. Hopefully, sooner or later, we will see some of them coming back to Oracle – either for the next Girl´s Day or one of our entry level positions. This day has shown that everyone can start a challenging career within an exciting industry. As many are aware, March Madness is well underway and continues to be a time when college basketball teams get together to bring their A-game to the court. Here at Oracle we also like to bring our A-game, and that includes some new players and talent from our newly acquired companies. Each new acquisition expands Oracle’s solution portfolio, fills customer requirements, and ultimately brings greater opportunities for partners. OPN follows a consistent approach to delivering key information about these acquisitions to you in a timely manner. We do this so partners can get educated, get trained and gain access to demand gen and sales tools. Through this slam dunk of a process we provide (using Pillar Data Systems as an example): A welcome page where partners can download information and learn how to sell and maximize sales returns. A Discovery section where partners can listen to key Oracle Executives speak about the many benefits this new solution brings, as well review a FAQ sheet. A Prepare section where partners can learn about the product strategies and the different OPN Knowledge Zones that have become available. A Sell and Deliver section that partners can leverage when discussing product positioning and functionality, as well as gain access to relevant deliverables. Just as any competitive team strives to be #1, Oracle also wants to stay best-in-class which is why we have recently joined forces with some ‘baller’ companies such as RightNow, Endeca and Pillar Axiom to secure our place in the industry bracket. By running our 3-2 Oracle play and bringing in our newly acquired products, we are able to deliver a solid, expanded solution to our partners. These and many other MVP companies have helped Oracle broaden its offerings and score big. Watch the half time show below to find out what Judson thinks about Oracle’s current offerings: Mergers and acquisitions are a strategic part of how we currently go to market. • CakePHP access indirectly related model - beginner's question

    - by user325077
    Hi everyone, I am writing a CakePHP application to log the work I do for various clients, but after trying for days I seem unable to get it to do what I want. I have read most of the book CakePHP's website. and googled for all I'm worth, so I presume I am missing something obvious! Every 'log item' belongs to a 'sub-project, which in turn belongs to a 'project', which in turn belongs to a 'sub-client' which finally belongs to a client. These are the 5 MySQL tables I am using: mysql> DESCRIBE log_items; +-----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | date | date | NO | | NULL | | | time | time | NO | | NULL | | | time_spent | int(11) | NO | | NULL | | | sub_projects_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | title | varchar(100) | NO | | NULL | | | description | text | YES | | NULL | | | created | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | modified | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +-----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ mysql> DESCRIBE sub_projects; +-------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +-------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(100) | NO | | NULL | | | projects_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | created | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | modified | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +-------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ mysql> DESCRIBE projects; +----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(100) | NO | | NULL | | | sub_clients_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | created | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | modified | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +----------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ mysql> DESCRIBE sub_clients; +------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(100) | NO | | NULL | | | clients_id | int(11) | NO | MUL | NULL | | | created | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | modified | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +------------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ mysql> DESCRIBE clients; +----------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | Field | Type | Null | Key | Default | Extra | +----------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ | id | int(11) | NO | PRI | NULL | auto_increment | | name | varchar(100) | NO | | NULL | | | created | datetime | YES | | NULL | | | modified | datetime | YES | | NULL | | +----------+--------------+------+-----+---------+----------------+ I have set up the following associations in CakePHP: LogItem belongsTo SubProjects SubProject belongsTo Projects Project belongsTo SubClients SubClient belongsTo Clients Client hasMany SubClients SubClient hasMany Projects Project hasMany SubProjects SubProject hasMany LogItems Using 'cake bake' I have created the models, controllers (index, view add, edit and delete) and views, and things seem to function - as in I am able to perform simple CRUD operations successfully. The Question When editing a 'log item' at www.mydomain/log_items/edit I am presented with the view you would all suspect; namely the columns of the log_items table with the appropriate textfields/select boxes etc. I would also like to incorporate select boxes to choose the client, sub-client, project and sub-project in the 'log_items' edit view. Ideally the 'sub-client' select box should populate itself depending upon the 'client' chosen, the 'project' select box should also populate itself depending on the 'sub-client' selected etc, etc. I guess the way to go about populating the select boxes with relevant options is Ajax, but I am unsure of how to go about actually accessing a model from the child view of a indirectly related model, for example how to create a 'sub-client' select box in the 'log_items' edit view. I have have found this example: http://forum.phpsitesolutions.com/php-frameworks/cakephp/ajax-cakephp-dynamically-populate-html-select-dropdown-box-t29.html where someone achieves something similar for US states, counties and cities. However, I noticed in the database schema - which is downloadable from the site above link - that the database tables don't have any foreign keys, so now I'm wondering if I'm going about things in the correct manner. Any pointers and advice would be very much appreciated. Kind regards, Chris

  • scrolling lags in emacs 23.2 with GTK

    - by mefiX
Hey there, I am using emacs 23.2 with the GTK toolkit. I built emacs from source using the following configure-params: ./configure --prefix=/usr --without-makeinfo --without-sound Which builds emacs with the following configuration: Where should the build process find the source code? /home/****/incoming/emacs-23.2 What operating system and machine description files should Emacs use? `s/gnu-linux.h' and `m/intel386.h' What compiler should emacs be built with? gcc -g -O2 -Wdeclaration-after-statement -Wno-pointer-sign Should Emacs use the GNU version of malloc? yes (Using Doug Lea's new malloc from the GNU C Library.) Should Emacs use a relocating allocator for buffers? yes Should Emacs use mmap(2) for buffer allocation? no What window system should Emacs use? x11 What toolkit should Emacs use? I use the following plugins: ido linum tabbar auto-complete-config Starting emacs with -q fixes the problem, but then I don't have any plugins. On Saturday Tomas announced the feature complete MySQL 5.6 Release Candidate that is now available for Community adoption and testing. This announcement marks the sprint to GA that should be ready for release within the next 90 days. You can get a quick summary of the key 5.6 features here or better yet download the 5.6 RC (under “Development Releases”), review what's new and try it out for yourself! There were also product related announcements around MySQL Cluster 7.3 and MySQL Enterprise Edition . This latter announcement is of particular interest if you are faced with internal and regulatory compliance requirements as it addresses and solves a pain point that is shared by most developers and DBAs; new, out of the box compliance for MySQL applications via policy-based audit logging of user and query level activity. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} One of the most common requests we get for the MySQL roadmap is for quick and easy logging of audit events. This is mainly due to how web-based applications have evolved from nice-to-have enablers to mission-critical revenue generation and the important role MySQL plays in the new dynamic. In today’s virtual marketplace, PCI compliance guidelines ensure credit card data is secure within e-commerce apps; from a corporate standpoint, Sarbanes-Oxely, HIPAA and other regulations guard the medical, financial, public sector and other personal data centric industries. For supporting applications audit policies and controls that monitor the eyes and hands that have viewed and acted upon the most sensitive of data is most commonly implemented on the back-end database. Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} With this in mind, MySQL 5.5 introduced an open audit plugin API that enables all MySQL users to write their own auditing plugins based on application specific requirements. While the supporting docs are very complete and provide working code samples, writing an audit plugin requires time and low-level expertise to develop, test, implement and maintain. To help those who don't have the time and/or expertise to develop such a plugin, Oracle now ships MySQL 5.5.28 and higher with an easy to use, out-of-the-box auditing solution; MySQL Enterprise Audit. MySQL Enterprise Audit The premise behind MySQL Enterprise Audit is simple; we wanted to provide an easy to use, policy-based auditing solution that enables you to quickly and seamlessly add compliance to their MySQL applications. MySQL Enterprise Audit meets this requirement by enabling you to: 1. Easily install the needed components. Installation requires an upgrade to MySQL 5.5.28 (Enterprise edition), which can be downloaded from the My Oracle Support portal or the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. After installation, you simply add the following to your my.cnf file to register and enable the audit plugin: [mysqld] plugin-load=audit_log.so (keep in mind the audit_log suffix is platform dependent, so .dll on Windows, etc.) or alternatively you can load the plugin at runtime: mysql> INSTALL PLUGIN audit_log SONAME 'audit_log.so'; 2. Dynamically enable and disable the audit stream for a specific MySQL server. A new global variable called audit_log_policy allows you to dynamically enable and disable audit stream logging for a specific MySQL server. The variable parameters are described below. 3. Define audit policy based on what needs to be logged (everything, logins, queries, or nothing), by server. The new audit_log_policy variable uses the following valid, descriptively named values to enable, disable audit stream logging and to filter the audit events that are logged to the audit stream: "ALL" - enable audit stream and log all events "LOGINS" - enable audit stream and log only login events "QUERIES" - enable audit stream and log only querie events "NONE" - disable audit stream 4. Manage audit log files using basic MySQL log rotation features. A new global variable, audit_log_rotate_on_size, allows you to automate the rotation and archival of audit stream log files based on size with archived log files renamed and appended with datetime stamp when a new file is opened for logging. 5. Integrate the MySQL audit stream with MySQL, Oracle tools and other third-party solutions. The MySQL audit stream is written as XML, using UFT-8 and can be easily formatted for viewing using a standard XML parser. This enables you to leverage tools from MySQL and others to view the contents. The audit stream was also developed to meet the Oracle database audit stream specification so combined Oracle/MySQL shops can import and manage MySQL audit images using the same Oracle tools they use for their Oracle databases. So assuming a successful MySQL 5.5.28 upgrade or installation, a common set up and use case scenario might look something like this: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} It should be noted that MySQL Enterprise Audit was designed to be transparent at the application layer by allowing you to control the mix of log output buffering and asynchronous or synchronous disk writes to minimize the associated overhead that comes when the audit stream is enabled. The net result is that, depending on the chosen audit stream log stream options, most application users will see little to no difference in response times when the audit stream is enabled. So what are your next steps? • MySQL is running VERY slow on CentOS 6x (not 5x)

    - by user1032531
I have two servers: a VPS and a laptop. I recently re-built both of them, and MySQL is running about 20 times slower on the laptop. Both servers used to run CentOS 5.8 and I think MySQL 5.1, and the laptop used to do great so I do not think it is the hardware. For the VPS, my provider installed CentOS 6.4, and then I installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. For the laptop, I installed CentOS 6.4 basic server and then installed MySQL 5.1.69 using yum with the CentOS repo. my.cnf for both servers are identical, and I have shown below. For both servers, I've also included below the output from SHOW VARIABLES; as well as output from sysbench, file system information, and cpu information. I have tried adding skip-name-resolve, but it didn't help. The matrix below shows the SHOW VARIABLES output from both servers which is different. Again, MySQL was installed the same way, so I do not know why it is different, but it is and I think this might be why the laptop is executing MySQL so slowly. Why is the laptop running MySQL slowly, and how do I fix it? • Bacula windows client could not connect to Bacula director

    - by pr0f-r00t
I have a Bacula server on my Linux Debian squeeze host (Bacula version 5.0.2) and a Bacula client on Windows XP SP3. On my network each client can see each other, can share files and can ping. On my local server I could run bconsole and the server responds but when I run bconsole or bat on my windows client the server does not respond. Here are my configuration files: bacula-dir.conf: # # Default Bacula Director Configuration file # # The only thing that MUST be changed is to add one or more # file or directory names in the Include directive of the # FileSet resource. # # For Bacula release 5.0.2 (28 April 2010) -- debian squeeze/sid # # You might also want to change the default email address # from root to your address. • DKIM error: dkim=neutral (bad version) header.i=

    - by GBC
Ive been struggling the last couple of hours with setting up DKIM on my Postfix/CentOS 5.3 server. It finally sends and signs the emails, but apparently Google still does not like it. The errors I'm getting are: dkim=neutral (bad version) [email protected] from googles "show original" interface. This is what my DKIM-signature header look like: v=1; a=rsa-sha1; c=simple/simple; d=mydomain.com.au; s=default; t=1267326852; bh=0wHpkjkf7ZEiP2VZXAse+46PC1c=; h=Date:From:Message-Id:To:Subject; b=IFBaqfXmFjEojWXI/WQk4OzqglNjBWYk3jlFC8sHLLRAcADj6ScX3bzd+No7zos6i KppG9ifwYmvrudgEF+n1VviBnel7vcVT6dg5cxOTu7y31kUApR59dRU5nPR/to0E9l dXMaBoYPG8edyiM+soXo7rYNtlzk+0wd5glgFP1I= Very appreciative of any suggestions as to how I can solve this problem! Btw, here is exactly how I installed dkim-milter in CentOS 5.3 for postfix, if anyone is interested (based on this guide): mkdir dkim-milter cd dkim-milter wget http://www.topdog-software.com/oss/dkim-milter/dkim-milter-2.8.3-1.x86_64.rpm ======S====== Newest version: http://www.topdog-software.com/oss/dkim-milter/ ======E====== rpm -Uvh dkim-milter-2.8.3-1.x86_64.rpm /usr/bin/dkim-genkey -r -d mydomain.com.au ======S====== add contents of default.txt to DNS as TXT _ssp._domainkey TXT dkim=unknown _adsp._domainkey TXT dkim=unknown default._domainkey TXT v=DKIM1; g=*; k=rsa; p=MIGfMA0GCSqGSIb3DQEBAQUAA4GWETBNiQKBgQC5KT1eN2lqCRQGDX+20I4liM2mktrtjWkV6mW9WX7q46cZAYgNrus53vgfl2z1Y/95mBv6Bx9WOS56OAVBQw62+ksXPT5cRUAUN9GkENPdOoPdpvrU1KdAMW5c3zmGOvEOa4jAlB4/wYTV5RkLq/1XLxXfTKNy58v+CKETLQS/eQIDAQAB ======E====== mv default.private default mkdir /etc/mail/dkim/keys/mydomain.com.au mv default /etc/mail/dkim/keys/mydomain.com.au chmod 600 /etc/mail/dkim/keys/mydomain.com.au/default chown dkim-milt.dkim-milt /etc/mail/dkim/keys/mydomain.com.au/default vim /etc/dkim-filter.conf ======S====== ADSPDiscard yes ADSPNoSuchDomain yes AllowSHA1Only no AlwaysAddARHeader no AutoRestart yes AutoRestartRate 10/1h BaseDirectory /var/run/dkim-milter Canonicalization simple/simple Domain mydomain.com.au #add all your domains here and seperate them with comma ExternalIgnoreList /etc/mail/dkim/trusted-hosts InternalHosts /etc/mail/dkim/trusted-hosts KeyList /etc/mail/dkim/keylist LocalADSP /etc/mail/dkim/local-adsp-rules Mode sv MTA MSA On-Default reject On-BadSignature reject On-DNSError tempfail On-InternalError accept On-NoSignature accept On-Security discard PidFile /var/run/dkim-milter/dkim-milter.pid QueryCache yes RemoveOldSignatures yes Selector default SignatureAlgorithm rsa-sha1 Socket inet:20209@localhost Syslog yes SyslogSuccess yes TemporaryDirectory /var/tmp UMask 022 UserID dkim-milt:dkim-milt X-Header yes ======E====== vim /etc/mail/dkim/keylist ======S====== *@mydomain.com.au:mydomain.com.au:/etc/mail/dkim/keys/mydomain.com.au/default ======E====== vim /etc/postfix/main.cf ======S====== Add: smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:20209 non_smtpd_milters = inet:localhost:20209 milter_protocol = 2 milter_default_action = accept ======E====== vim /etc/mail/dkim/trusted-hosts ======S====== localhost 127.0.0.1 ======E====== /etc/mail/local-host-names ======S====== localhost 127.0.0.1 ======E====== /sbin/chkconfig dkim-milter on /etc/init.d/dkim-milter start /etc/init.d/postfix restart
