• Verify my form workflow

  I have a form, with some sensitive info (CC numbers). My work flow is: One page to take all form items Upon submission, values are validated. If all is well, all data is stored in a session variable, and the page reloads and displays this info from the session variable. If everything is ok on the review page, the user clicks submit and the session variable is sent to another form for processing (sending payment). Upon success, the session is destroyed. Upon failure (bad CC number, for example) - the user is sent back to the form, with all of the fields filled in just like before, so that they can check for errors and try again (session is NOT destroyed). Does anyone see anything wrong with this, from a security or best practices stand point? UPDATE I'm thinking I can get rid of a step - storing the info in a session EVER. Just have a one page checkout, no review page... makes sense.

To my understanding, both describe the parts of a program in which a variable/object/method/function will be accessible. I understand that 'scope' tends to be a property of the variable (e.g., "This variable has global scope"), while a 'namespace' is a property of the program (e.g., "A Python function creates a local namespace"). Are there other differences? Global scope vs global namespace addresses a slightly narrower question: global namespaces in C++. http://www.alan-g.me.uk/tutor/tutname.htm states, There are a few very subtle differences between the terms but only a Computer Scientist pedant would argue with you, and for our purposes namespace and scope are identical. What are those subtle differences? Under what circumstances or with which kinds of languages do people use each concept?

• jquery load links not clickable

  ok i am loading a separate page with links in it, into a page named index.php. it loads fine, but when i click one of the links inside the loaded content, nothing happens. they dont act as links. but if i do a alert('hi'); after the load('page.html'); then it will work. any ideas on getting this to work without alerting something after it loads? oh also i cant use a callback, unless there is a way to update the get variable because the page loading, has a $_GET variable, and the links inside the loaded page are supposed to update the $_GET variable. anyways is there a way to make the links clickable after loading the page?

• Do I need to include the 'this' when using a property name in a closure?

  I'm using a list of Actions to store an undo history for an object. Let's say I have a property of my object called myChildObject and it's being changed, so I want to store the undo action where I would set it back to it's current value: public class Class1 { public Class1() { } private readonly List<Action> m_undoActions = new List<Action>(); private SomeObject myChildObject { get; set; } public void ChangeState(SomeObject newChildObject) { // copies the reference SomeObject existingObject = myChildObject; m_undoActions.Add(() => myChildObject = existingObject); myChildObject = newChildObject; } } Looking at the lambda expression, existingObject is a local variable, so it's using a closure to pass a reference to that variable, but what about the property myChildObject? Do I need to use 'this' to preface it? Do I need to make a copy of the 'this' reference to a local variable first? Thanks for helping me understand this closure stuff.

• Can't get NSDate to work correctly

  Hello, having a strange issue, must be something I'm just not seeing. I set up a variable in the .h NSDate *checkIn; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSDate *checkIn; I'm setting a variable to todays date in the initWithNibName: checkIn = [NSDate date]; I also did synthesized it as well. Now later on in my program I use it to build a tablecell with the following line cell.textLabel.text = [dateFormatter stringFromDate:checkIn]; This line kills the simulator, BAD_EXEC. If I put in a checkIn = [NSDate date]; above it, it works fine. So I'm thinking the variable isn't being stored from when I set it in the initWithNibName: Not sure why though, as my strings I do the same way are all working fine from method to method. What am I missing?

• Undetermined type conversion in VB.NET 2008

  I figured this would be a quick google, but extensive searching hasnt yielded any results. Everything about type conversion seems to dance around this concept. I want to get the type of variable "a", and make a new variable named "b" of that type. Otherwise I could have "a" as a type already declared and "b" simply as an Object, then try to cast "b" to the type of "a". Dim a As Integer Dim b As Whatever a Is OR TryCast(b, Whatever a Is) I would also like to make the conversion using a variable representation of the type, but cant find info on how to do that either. Sorta like: Dim a As Integer Dim b As Object Dim t As Type t = a.GetType() TryCast(b, t) Realizing I'm completely misusing TryCast here, I'm mostly trying to get my goal across. I figured it would be an easy quick thing to do but I cant really find any specific info on it. Any ideas?

  hi, i am using rawurlencode($url_variable) while passing to a script.. when i receive the variable in the script ,before passing this variable to mysql ,i was doing mysql_real_escape_string . now the problem is like when there is a variable like $url_variable = "Off-St.Mark's-Road" ...after i do mysql_real_escape_string it become slike Off-St.Mark\\'s-Road . which is creating a problem in mysql query ... how i get over this...rawurlencode is necessary to pass variables to the script and i want to do mysql_real_escape_string to make the data safe...

  Grep acts differently depending on what kind of quotes I surround the regex with. I can't seem to get a clear understanding of why this is. Here is an example of the problem: hamiltont$ grep -e show\( test.txt variable.show(); variable.show(a); variable.show(abc, 132); variableshow(); hamiltont$ grep -e "show\(" test.txt grep: Unmatched ( or \( hamiltont$ grep -e 'show\(' test.txt grep: Unmatched ( or \( I am just assuming there is some proper way to enclose the regex with single/double quotes.   I'm seeing something weird in my actionscript code I have two classes foo and bar, bar extends foo. In a model class I have a foo member variable, I assign an bar object to the foo variable. But after the assignment the foo variable is null. • Newlines not being interpreted when passed to php via the command line

  I have a PHP script that I'm invoking from another shell script that sends an automated email with a message generated from the shell script. Problem is, when I send the message all the newline characters are printed into the message. How do I get them to be interpreted? sendmail.sh: /path/to/phpscript/sendmail.php "Some Message With Newlines\nHello World.\n" sendmail.php: $message = $argv[1] . "\nNewline"; $smtp->send($to, $from, $message); The odd thing is the \n after the $argv variable is interpreted and actually prints Newline on a new line, but the newlines in the $argv variable don't, I have tried wrapping the variable in double quotes among other things but so far to no avail.

• What is the magic behind perl read() function and buffer which is not a ref ?

  I do not get to understand how the Perl read($buf) function is able to modify the content of the $buf variable. $buf is not a reference, so the parameter is given by copy (from my c/c++ knowledge). So how come the $buf variable is modified in the caller ? Is it a tie variable or something ?   I'm starting learning javascript for a project, I've found a script that does a part of what I need to do, I'd like to know how it works, both for me and in case it needs to be modified. Originally it was used inside the page, now I've put it in a file on its own and does not work anymore, so I'm dividing it in parts, because I fail to get the whole thing. Here is what bother me most for now: 1) Is this a declaration a function? What is its name? How can it be invoked?   I am trying to use notepad++ as my all-in-one tool edit, run, compile etc. I have jre installed, i have setup my path variable to .../bin directory. When I run my "Hello world" in notepad++ , I get this message: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: test_hello_world : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0 at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass1(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClassCond(Unknown Source) ......................................... I think the problem here is about versions, some version of java may be old or too new. how do i fix it? should i install jdk , and setup my path variable to JDK instead of jre? difference between PATH variable in jre or jdk?

  Hi there I have set up my coldfusion application to have dynamic urls on the page, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/:VariableName However my variable names will sometimes contain slashes, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/GZA/Genius This is causing a problem, because my application presumes that the slash in the variable name represents a different section of the website, the artists albums. So the URL will fail. I am wondering if there is anyway to prevent this from happening? Do I need to use a function that replaces slashes in the variable names with another character? Thanks

• How to initialise a STL vector/list with a class without invoking the copy constructor

  I have a C++ program that uses a std::list containing instances of a class. If I call e.g. myList.push_back(MyClass(variable)); it goes through the process of creating a temporary variable, and then immediately copies it to the vector, and afterwards deletes the temporary variable. This is not nearly as efficient as I want, and sucks when you need a deep copy. I would love to have the constructor of my class new something and not have to implement a copy constructor just to allocate my memory for the second time and waste runtime. I'd also rather not have to immediately find the class instance from the vector/list and then manually allocate the memory (or do something horrible like allocate the memory in the copy constructor itself). Is there any way around this (I'm not using Visual Studio BTW)?

  Hi, Could anybody help me make a proper regular expression from a bunch of text in Ruby. I tried a lot but I don't know how to handle variable length titles. The string will be of format <sometext>title:"<actual_title>"<sometext>. I want to extract actual_title from this string. I tried /title:"."/ but it doesnt find any matches as it expects a closing quotation after one variable from opening quotation. I couldn't figure how to make it check for variable length of string. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

• Issue with plotting daily data using ggplot

  I tried to plot daily data from 9 variables in ggplot, but the graph I get cannot handle the date variable properly. The x axis is unreadable and its impossible to read the plot. I'm guessing there's an issue with the handling of dates.   Is search and replace the only way to rename as asp control in the code behind file? I find this extremely annoying, but it is the only way I can find. Scenario: I'll find a variable that needs renaming (Usually to meet naming convention) I'll rename the variable in the aspx/ascx file. I'll have to go in the code behind files and search and replace. I get annoyed Are there any better ways - preferably that would not touch a similarly named variable in another scope in the project. I'm on VS2008 with resharper -- does VS2010 address this perhaps?

• Windows environment variables change when opening command line?

  Sometimes when I change my environment variables in Windows, and then use software the depends on those variables, they are not properly updated. And good example is to change a variable, then open up Windows Command Line and echo the variable and see that it hasn't been changed, even though you properly changed it in the Environment Variables window. Another example I'm dealing with right now: I've been using Python 2.4.x for a while for a project, which uses the env var PYTHONPATH who's value has been: C:\Python24;C:\Python24\lib Today I installed Python 2.5.x for the project. I changed my PYTHONPATH to be: C:\Python25;C:\Python25\lib When I use Python 2.5 to run a script and do this: import sys print sys.path It prints: 'C:\\PYTHON24', 'C:\\PYTHON24\\lib' (and some other Python 2.5 related default installation paths) So clearly, the old PYTHONPATH environment variable changes aren't really sticking.... Does anyone know why this happens and how to fix it?
