  I get the following error on yum install mysql-devel. Can anyone help? • using Team foundation server

  I am using Team foundation server / visual studio as a client, to manage my visual foxpro source code. everytime i "checkout for edit" all my folders and files are read only and when i open my projects, it is like if the project is opened for the first time, asking me if i would like to set the current path as the default path... this is causing other serious problems as bad reference to "missing library files", which are actually not missing. i know Visual foxpro is old stuff...i hope someone who went through the same errors could help me out. thanks a lot guys

• What iPhone apps have I already purchased?

  I've bought many iPhone apps by now, some free and some paid. I've reinstalled my computer, and in the new installation, iTunes is completely blank. On first sync, iTunes downloads the apps that are currently installed on my iPhone. But what about all those apps that I have bought and aren't currently installed? Is there a way to re-download all my apps into iTunes? Where can I see a listing of all the apps I've ever downloaded? (Update: Apparently not all purchased content is restored - some things are inexplicably missing. You won't be charged anew for downloading them again, but you also won't be told what it is that you're missing. See here for details...)

• Systray stretching out for no reason.

  I just restored my Windows install back to a previous state with Macrium. For some odd reason it is now stretching out my systray up to halfway across my taskbar. Any ideas why? No it did not do this 6 months ago when I took the image or anytime after that when I was using it. This is in Windows 7x64. The blank area seems to be filled with blank icons because if I place the mouse anywhere in the blank area the systray will slide over by about 1 icon's width. The missing icon between the battery and the volume is I assume my network icon. Not sure why that is missing as well.

• How could all of my hard drives fail at once?

  I have an Ubuntu 13.04 server. Today I found the box had crashed. I restarted it, and now every single hard drive's partition table is missing. (1 SSD for /boot, /, and 3 2TB drives for RAID). I have the SSD connected to a laptop VIA USB-SATA cable, and sure enough, the partition table is missing. This tells me that the Motherboard / SATA controller / software actually broke the drives, not that they just can't be read correctly. Something similar happened to only the SSD a few months ago, and I was forced to just re-partition it. How the heck could his have happened? Bad Motherboard or SATA controller?

• How to pull SNMP information from Windows commandline without installing software

  I would like to be able to quickly pull SNMP information via commandline such as device uptime. I noticed Net-SNMP's snmpget.exe can do this; but it looks like I need to install Net-SNMP first before I can use that executable. Isn't there any way to make this executable portable? When I simply copy it to another machine and try to execute it, it complains that netsnmp.dll is missing. If I copy that file to the same folder, it still says the file is missing. I even tried to regsvr32 that dll, but I was unsuccessful. Maybe there's a better way to get simple SNMP information from the Windows command line using royalty free/non-commercial software? • Thunderbird 3 not displaying email in local folder

  I installed TB3 on a new computer set up to use imap to get my gmail -- works fine I copied all of my existing emails from old computer into the appdata directiry fir thunderbird local folders. All files are of the right size that I know the data is present When I run tb on the new computer all of the FOLDERS show up under LocalFolders. 5, BUT BUT BUT, when I click on any folder, all I get is a blank -- no emails are shown. additional info: Bitdefender DOES see the missing emails because one or two are tagged as suspicious But Windows 7 search is NOT seeing the missing emails. Can anyone instruct me on how I can get tbird to show the old emails ??? thanks

  Which Unix like environment do you prefer on Windows? I have found Cygwin to be very comfortable for a Windows platform (usually XP). I am wondering if there is a better alternative (not because I want to move away from Cygwin). What are the features of Cygwin that you like OR, What are features you find in alternatives that you miss in Cygwin? I am often miss binary compatibility of applications built on Cygwin. These cannot be run directly on another Windows platform. But, usually fetching a copy of cygwin1.dll suffices. • "svn up" misses files!

  When trying to do an svn up I get the normal At revision XX even though some files are missing, the missing files do show when doing an svn list example: $ svn list > ConditionTest.java > persistence $ ls > persistence $ svn list > ConditionTest.java > persistence/ $ svn up > Is at revision 55 $ ls > persistence The file ConditionTest.java is not added unless manually running svn up ConditionTest.java What is up? • Why can't email clients create rules for moving dates like "yesterday"?

  I've never seen an email client that I could easily create a rule to do something like "Move messages from yesterday to a folder?" Is there some esoteric reason why this would be difficult? I know I can easily create rules around specific dates, but that isn't the same thing by a long shot; am I missing something? In Outlook 2010 I can create search folders that do sort of this type of thing, but you can't create rules around a search folder... seems like either I am missing something major, or this is terribly short-sided.

  I'm wanting to script the "Turn Windows Features On of Off" functionality for my development group so that we'll have a means of ensuring that everyone is running on the same configurations. We are running Windows 7. Is this possible without DISM.exe? It doesn't necessarily have to be scripting. Windows Features is just one of serveral configurations that developers are responsible for modifying personally. It would also be nice to ensure (for example) that IIS and certain services are configured properly on a given developer's machine. If there's a larger scale tool that could give us this functionality, I would be interested in that too.

• Windows 7 ISO not booting from DVD drive?

  I've downloaded Windows 7 x64 Pro Upgrade from the volume license center. I've also downloaded the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool. I'll burn it using this tool and while it will show up in Explorer as if the burn worked correctly, when I try to boot to the DVD on startup, I get a "No operating system found" error (this is a newer Lenovo). My Ubuntu Live CD works fine, am I missing something? I read that there's problems if you try to burn a 64bit copy from a 32bit computer, but I'm currently running Win7x64, so that shouldn't be a problem. I've also tried burning with ImgBurn and Windows 7 built ISO burner, no success. Obviously there's a step I'm missing here, what gives?

• No wireless adapter in msi u200

  I have a MSi u200, and the weird thing was that I was using this normally before, then after a few minutes all of a sudden it couldn't find the wifi signal from my house. I did some troubleshooting and a bit of search in the control panel, and it seems like my hardware is missing. :( I can't even turn on the wireless light using Fn+F8, so my suspicions about the missing hardware strengthened. I tried searching for DIY fixes, but I found out that the wireless card is actually built-in deeper, unlike the RAM cards and the hard drive where you can either replace or add more cards. What do I do?? As of the moment, I can get connected to my wifi here at home using a wireless adapter via usb, and it's working. So my guess about the hardware problem seems correct. HELP!!! Thanks!

• SVNNotify Where is it? how do I find it?

  I am on ubuntu. ok first of all I am running a post-commit script. I need the path to svnnotify to run it. The path the turotial I am reading has it as /usr/local/bin/svnnotify but nothing is in that location on my computer. I tried it anyways and I get something like: Warning post-commit hook failed: not found so I think I need to replace /usr/local/bin/svnnotify with the correct path to svnnotify. Well I do a search (Places>Search for Files) for svnnotify and nothing comes up. I know svnnotify is installed becuase if I open a command line and run svnnotify it tells me I am missing the required path argument. So how can it be installed if its not in the file system anywhere? I don't really know how linux works, its very new to me, so I am confused. Is there something I am missing?

• How do I force an exchange database to become "active"?

  We had a catastrophic failure where all that remains is a single edb file. No backups. No log files. The database that remains is on the "passive" copy. The "active" copy is missing, but the server is active. The Exchange console reports that the edb file needs to be reseeded, however there is no source to reseed from. How do I make the "invalid" database file (missing logs) valid? How do I make exchange recognize this as a valid database to use as a primary?

  I'm running the lastest Ubuntu 12.04 AMI (ami-a29943cb) from Canonical on Amazon EC2 and quite often when I log in I get the message: *** /dev/xvda1 will be checked for errors at next reboot *** I have read a bunch of documentation on this and seem to understand that every so many reboots (around 37 see Mount count / Maximum mount count below) Ubuntu wants to check a disk for errors. I don't understand: If this is a virtual drive shouldn't it be less prone to errors? Was the image created with one of the flags set? If not what is triggering it? Why is fs_passno set to 0 on Amazon EC2 Ubuntu images? This is not the first one that is like this.

• New SSIS tool on Codeplex – SSIS Log Analyzer

  I stumbled across a new SSIS tool on Codeplex today, the SSIS Log Analyzer which was only released a few days ago. Whilst it is a beta release and currently only supports 2005 (2008 is promised) it looks quite interesting. It seems to be a fancy log viewer, but with some clever features and a nice looking front-end. I’ve only read the documentation so far, but it has graphs and a debug view that shows your package with the colour animations similar to when debugging in BIDS, and everyone knows, the way the pretty colours and numbers change is the best bit! I’ll quote some of the features for you here and then let you make your own mind up, is it useful in the real world? Option to analyze the logs manually by applying row and column filters over the log data or by using queries to specify more complex criterions. Automated Performance Analysis which provides a quick graphical look on which tasks spent most time during package execution. Rerun (debug) the entire sequence of events which happened during package execution showing the flow of control in graphical form, changes in runtime values for each task like execution duration etc. Support for Auto Analyzers to automatically find out issues and provide suggestions for problems which can be figured out with the help of SSIS logs and/or package. Option to analyze just log file or log and package together. Provides a lightweight environment to have a quick look at the package.   I recently presented session on Statistics and Best Practices in Virtual Tech Days on Nov 22, 2010. The sessions was very popular and I got many questions right after the sessions. The number question I had received was where everybody can get the further information. I am very much happy that my sessions created some curiosity for one of the most important feature of the SQL Server. Statistics are the heart of the SQL Server. Microsoft has published a white paper on the subject how statistics are useful to Query Optimizer. Here is the abstract of the same white paper from Microsoft. Statistics Used by the Query Optimizer in Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Writer: Eric N. Hanson and Yavor Angelov Microsoft SQL Server 2008 collects statistical information about indexes and column data stored in the database. These statistics are used by the SQL Server query optimizer to choose the most efficient plan for retrieving or updating data. This paper describes what data is collected, where it is stored, and which commands create, update, and delete statistics. By default, SQL Server 2008 also creates and updates statistics automatically, when such an operation is considered to be useful. This paper also outlines how these defaults can be changed on different levels (column, table, and database). In addition, it presents how certain query language features, such as Transact-SQL variables, interact with use of statistics by the optimizer, and it provides guidance for using these features when writing queries so you can obtain good query performance. • New SSIS tool on Codeplex – SSIS Log Analyzer

  I stumbled across a new SSIS tool on Codeplex today, the SSIS Log Analyzer which was only released a few days ago. Whilst it is a beta release and currently only supports 2005 (2008 is promised) it looks quite interesting. It seems to be a fancy log viewer, but with some clever features and a nice looking front-end. I’ve only read the documentation so far, but it has graphs and a debug view that shows your package with the colour animations similar to when debugging in BIDS, and everyone knows, the way the pretty colours and numbers change is the best bit! I’ll quote some of the features for you here and then let you make your own mind up, is it useful in the real world? Option to analyze the logs manually by applying row and column filters over the log data or by using queries to specify more complex criterions. Automated Performance Analysis which provides a quick graphical look on which tasks spent most time during package execution. Rerun (debug) the entire sequence of events which happened during package execution showing the flow of control in graphical form, changes in runtime values for each task like execution duration etc. Support for Auto Analyzers to automatically find out issues and provide suggestions for problems which can be figured out with the help of SSIS logs and/or package. Option to analyze just log file or log and package together. Provides a lightweight environment to have a quick look at the package.
