    I am using xampp on localhost and when I use _SERVER["REMOTE_ADDR"] it returns ::1 (also does this in phpinfo()). Why does it do this? I want it to return a normal ip address like 127.0.0.1. My operating system is windows vista.

  • Double paging definition

    This is not a programming question but more of an operating system question Right now I'm trying to learn what exactly Double paging means. I see two different terms, double paging on disk and double paging in memory. Apparently this problem arises when we introduce a buffer cache to store disk blocks when doing File I/O But I'm not really sure what exactly this term means. If anybody could specify it would be very helpful.

  • How to detect Windows 64 bit platform with .net?

    In a .net 2.0 C# application I use the following code to detect the operating system platform: string os_platform = System.Environment.OSVersion.Platform.ToString();<br/> This returns "Win32NT". The problem is that it returns "Win32NT" even when running on Windows Vista 64bit. Is there any other method to know the correct platform (32 or 64bit)? Note that it should also detect 64bit when run as 32bit app on Windows 64bit.

    Hi, I'm developing a operating system and I need a test program (function of any kind) to test certain internal features. I cannot find any appropriate program to do this job. Probably one of you knows one. The program should be open source, written in C with very little user library usage (only file IO, pthreads, stdio, stdlib preferred) and must have a binary size of at least 2MB.     Is there any Informix documentation for optimizing any operating system where an ifx engine is running? For example, in Linux, strip-down to a bare minimum all unnecessary binaries, daemons, utilities, tune kernel parameters, optimize raw and cooked devices (hdparm), place swap space on beginning tracks of a disk, etc. Someday, maybe, Informix can create its own proprietary and dedicated PICK-like O/S to provide the most optimized environment for a standalone ifx server? The general idea is for the OS where ifx sits on have the smallest footprint and lowest overhead impact.

    I have an application which runs another application (mine) using the WinAPI "ShellExecuteEx" with the verb "RunAs" so that the other application should start with "Administrator" credentials. My OS is Windows XP. (Do not bother about other operating system, as I have specific code in place) The only problem with this thing is that the "Current User" comes preselected. I want it to be the "Following User" with Administrator selected. How to do this?

  • How to speed up/slow down application's 'time'

What I intend to do is to hook to some system api,like a time interrupt happens every amount of time (which is how every application in the operating system interprets time) and make an application's call to this api return some bigger/smaller result. So from the point view of an applicaiton, time has been speed up or slow down.     For deubgging some process I will need to download the PDB files for some operating system dll files (OLE32, NTDLL, etc.) That server is not connected to the internet. I know the following method to get the PDB. Get full dump of the process Copy the dump to another machine where internet connection is available Use .reload to download the PDB files Copy the PDB files from the local PDB store Is there any thing more simple or do I have to go through the dumping process?     In Visual Studio 2010 (RC) there is no longer a "browse with" context menu when right clicking .aspx pages. How can you change the default browser now? By default it seems to use the operating system default browser, but I would prefer to use IE when debugging ASP.net apps. (I am testing this with ASP.net MVC 2)

    I recently came upon a Microsoft article that touted new "defensive enhancements" of Windows 7. Specifically: Address space layout randomization (ASLR) Heap randomization Stack randomization The article went on to say that "...some of these defenses are in the core operating system, and the Microsoft Visual C++ compiler offers others" but didn't explain how these strategies would actually increase security. Anyone know why memory randomization increases security, if at all? Do other platforms and compilers employ similar strategies?

    I just want to know whether it is possible to develop an Android application that will allow remotely controlling an Android phone in the same way that remote desktop, or team viewer allows control over desktop operating systems. Is it possible on an unrooted phone? The basic functionlit required to acompolish this is would be the ability to capture the frame buffer and programmatically invoke touch on the device. Any feedback on this matter would be highly appreciated.
