  Found an interesting resource thanks to a close friend. Ping.eu is a free service which would let you test various aspects related to networks which would typically be pain inducing doing it on your own. For seasoned network professional having a MAC address of their own instead of a name :) this might not be that useful. However for a layperson like me this an invaluable resource. These guys provide you with following services: Ping – Shows how long it takes for packets to reach host Traceroute – Traces the route of packets to destination host from our server DNS lookup – Look up DNS record WHOIS – Lists contact info for an IP or domain Port check – Tests if port is opened on specified IP Reverse lookup – Gets hostname by IP address Proxy checker – Detects a proxy server Mail relaying – Tests relaying capabilities of specified mail-server Bandwidth meter – Detects your download speed from our server Network calculator – Calculates subnet range by network mask Network mask calculator – Calculates network mask by subnet range Country by IP – Detects country by IP or hostname Unit converter – Converts values from one unit to another   Taken straight from their site. • Website Access...DNS, ISP, issue?

  This isn't so much a code issue as it might be an issue with my ISP. For some reason when I visit a site very often, like one I manage or write stories on, it will just stop pulling data down after a while. It's very random when it happens, but probably happens once a week. If effects everyone who is accessing the site from this connection, and I can access other sites no problem. Also, if I go outside the office back home, which is right down the street, and access the site it is fine. I'm using Comcast in both locations. It's almost as if I have a limit on requests to each site and have hit my limit so it blocks the site for a while. Anybody have any clue what this might be?

• Domain forwarding (GoDaddy) - Forward only / Forward with masking

  I am trying to configure my domain to forward to my app engine application. For the forwarding I can choose from "forward only" and "forward with masking". Assume my domain is called "myDomain.com" and my app is located at myApp.appspot.com. If I choose "forward only" and I go to myDomain.com, I get redirect to myApp.appspot.com (myApp.appspot.com also showing in the address bar - But I want to show myDomain.com of course). If I choose "forward with masking", "myDomain.com" is always shown in the address bar, even if I navigate to some subpage. The URL then should look like e.g.: "myDomain.com#!page:xyz", but still shows "myDomain.com". Is there some way in the middle?

• Buying a parked domain if the contact email bounces

  I'm trying to buy a domain which is parked, but the contact email address listed on the page itself bounces. I looked up the WHOIS data and there are no email addresses or phone numbers listed. There are way too many hits on facebook / linkedin to try just searching for the name. What recourses do I have to try to get into contact with the owner? UPDATE: Hosted on the same IP are 206 identical "parked" pages, whose sole difference is the domain and the email address (always "info@[domain].it"): http://www.bing.com/search?q=ip%3A151.1.48.220 Whois info shows contact information for none (that I sampled) but all with different names o_O

  A disconcertingly high number of new technologies/paradigms are overhyped (as is evident from replies to this question). Combine this with the fact that being early adopter is inherently risky. This makes evaluation of technology before adoption critical. So how exactly early adopters among you go about it. I can think of following general criteria. For early adoption technology must address previously unaddressed issue and/or For acceptance beyond early adoption technology should address performance One indicator that something is not right is when there is too much of jargon for technology which is either irrelevant or there is no evidence to back it up What is your opinion. Update: 4. BTW, the biggest reason to fear technology is when it is imposed by the tech-unaware management based entirely on number of buzzwords.

• How do I add a network printer in Ubuntu 12.04?

  I know the name and the IP address of a network printer, but I can't seem to be able to search by IP address or name. Ubuntu developers love to move things around to make it difficult for users, so now with Ubuntu 12.04 I can only go on Application -> System Tools -> System Settings -> Printers, click on Network and a list of printers appears. Too bad the one I want to add isn't there. How do I do it? Here it suggests System -> Administration -> Printing, which simply doesn't exist.

  I have a wordpress site which is located at a .com address. The site is a simple 4 page personal site with my academic credentials, publications and a health blog that I started. I have done quite a bit of seo and I rank pretty high for the keywords i want on google.co.uk. However, I do not rank at all on google.com.mt which is the Malta specific search. I have therefore just bought the .com.mt domain and pointed the DNS nameservers to my current host provider and redirected it to the .com address. My goal is to make sure I don't screw up my google.co.uk search ranking, while starting to rank on google.com.mt I'm I doing the right thing or do you have any suggestions??

  Here's a quick update. I was down at a nice reception at the hotel for the conference speakers when a door is violently thrown open and a guys goes running through and down the hall. Following closely behind was a security guard. I immediately took off running after both of them. We tore down a long hallway and out the door of the hotel into the street. I had caught up to the security guard, but the thief had put a little distance between himself and the guard. The guard gave up the chase. • How is the RIP loaded when an interrupt arrives in an IA-32e 64-bit IDT Gate Descriptor?

  I need some help with the programming of an IA-32e Interrupt Descriptor as I'm pretty new to it. I don't think I quite understand how the RIP is loaded when an Interrupt arrives. There is a Segment Selector in Intel's 64-bit IDT Gate Descriptor. However, from my understanding across the 5 part Intel manuals, the Linear Address of the Interrupt Handler is loaded into RIP from the 64-bit offset specified in the IDT Gate Descriptor. The only use of the segment selector is to check: if there is a change in privilege levels the Interrupt Handler is truly pointing to a code segment My questions are: Is RIP taken from the 64-bit offset only? Or is RIP = offset(sign extended to 64-bits) + segment selector base? Is the base address pointed to by the segment selector in the IDT Gate Descriptor ignored? Or does it have a use?

• Ubuntu One Windows Client 3.0.1 - Sync not connecting

  I've got sync working at home on Natty and I need to access files at work. I've just installed client 3.0.1 at work on Windows 7. It's finding my account and sees what devices are already set up for sync but it just repeatedly tries to sync (File sync starting...) and after a while fails (File Sync is disconnected.). This cycle loops endlessly. I'm suspicious that it's a problem with my proxy setup. My employer doesn't use a manual proxy configuration but instead uses an automatic configuration script at a specific http address. Does U1 recognize that kind of setup or is it only looking for a proxy server in the form of an address/port?

  We are developing a web application with a fairly standard registration process which requires a client/user to verify their email address before they are allowed to use the site. The site also allows users to change their email address after verification (with a re-type email field, as well). What are the pros and cons of having the user re-verify their email. Is this even needed? • How to allow remote connections to Flask?

  Inside the system, running on virtual machine, I can access the running server at 127.0.0.1:5000. Although the 'remote' address of the vm is 192.168.56.101 (ping and ssh work fine), I cannot access the server with 192.168.50.101:5000 neither from the virtual machine nor from the local one. I guess there's something preventing remote connections. Here's /etc/network/interfaces: auto eth1 iface eth1 inet static address 192.168.56.101 netmask 255.255.255.0 ufw is inactive. How do I fix this problem?

The app is optimized for iPhone 5 and includes turn-by-turn voice guided navigation similar to the one found on Android devices. • Software requirements specification, please help!

  For a school project, I had to create a SRS for a "fictional" application. However they did not show us what it exactly entails, and were very vague with explanations. The SRS asked of us has to have at least 5 functional requirements, 5 non functional requirements and 1 constraint. FR1.2 The system shall require a Name, Username, Document number passport/ID card, Address, Zip code, City, Email address, Telephone number, Bank account, Captcha code on the registration form when a user registers.
