  • wifi hardware switch doesn't work on a Dell 1018

    I have a problem with my Dell 1018 Inspiron. I can't switch the wifi on, through the key on the keyboard. I think it's a driver problem since Ubuntu 11.10. This are the versions i tried: Ubuntu 10.04 / 10.10 It's possible to install the driver by hand: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install rtl8192ce-dkms Ubuntu 11.04 It works out of the box Ubuntu 11.10 / 12.04 I haven’t found any solution for these versions. The "ppa:lexical/hwe-wireless" doesn't work for these versions. It says Can not find package rtl8192ce-dkms. The window of additional drivers is empty. So I can't install the driver. The wired network works good.   • WiFi stops working after a while in Lenovo ThinkPad W520 (Ubuntu 12.04)

  • Image upload not functioning correctly

    I'm still trying to get to grips with PHP, and I'm trying to make a form that uploads a picture to a database. I don't have permissions for move_uploaded_file so I'm using the copy() as an alternative. Everywhere I've seen experiencing similar problems have all been with move_uploaded_file so I'm rather stuck. Trying to copy the image from the desktop doesn't seem to be working, it's not throwing up any more PHP errors but is displaying the error message for if something goes wrong. The form sends data to two tables in the database but I'm mainly concerned with the upload not working.   • Running computer from separate room

    I want my computer to be in the basement, but to use it on the first floor. Which cables should I run through the floor? Can some be wireless or other methods? Here are some of the options I've thought of: Basic: Run DVI, usb (mouse), usb (keyboard), and audio cable (4 cables) USB Hub option: Run DVI, and 1 usb, then using a usb hub split it into mouse, keyboard, maybe even audio (2-3 cables) HDMI Option: If I get a new video card and monitor that supports HDMI, would I be able to run both audio and video through it? Would the monitor have to have an audio out? Also there is a lot of extra bandwidth in the HDMI cables, could I send two monitors on 1 cable or would I have to use 2 cables? How about sending mouse/keyboard through the HDMI cable? I see a lot of monitors with USB hubs built in, but I assume I'd still have to wire HDMI + 1 USB cable to use the USB hubs? X Terminal Machine/Thin Client: I don't really know much about this option. Not sure if it would allow me to run graphics acceleration and watch movies, does anyone know more details about what this would allow me to do? Other options: Any other ways to do this? Can any of this be wireless?

    Although title is the same problem is different. I've installed Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty on my HP EliteBook 6930p Notebook. And I was trying to create a bootable usb for my DELL XPS 15z. After successful creation of usb with usb-creator-gtk I plugged in bootable usb stick to DELL laptop. The error message was "Operation System not found". I tried several things but could not make it. When I check from working Ubuntu, I can see that usb is bootable and has files for installation.

  • WIX: How can I register a new ISAPI Extension or Script Map on an existing Web App or Site?

    I've seen the WebApplicationExtension element, but because it must be a child of WebApplication, it appears to require the creation of a new WebApplication. I don't want that. I want to create the extension (or script map) on an existing website. On uninstall, the website should remain but the extension (script map entry) should be removed. Anyone know how to do this in WIX? If I get no good answers, I guess I will have to do it within script before InstallFinalize.

  • Allowing threads from python after calling a blocking i/o code in a python extension generated using

    I have written a python extension wrapping an existing C++ library live555 (wrapping RTSP client interface to be specific) in SWIG. The extension works when it is operated in a single thread, but as soon as I call the event loop function of the library, python interpreter never gets the control back. So if I create a scheduled task using threading.Timer right before calling the event loop, that task never gets executed once event loop starts. To fix this issue, I added Py_BEGIN_ALLOW_THREADS and Py_END_ALLOW_THREADS macros manually in the SWIG auto generated wrapper cxx file around every doEventLoop() function call. But now, I want to do the same (i.e. allow threads) when SWIG generates the code itself and not to change any code manually. Has anyone done something similar in SWIG? P.S. - I would also consider switching to any other framework (like SIP) to get this working. I selected SWIG over any other technology is because writing SWIG interface was really very easy and I just had to include the existing header files.

  • How can I install wireless drivers without internet?

    [Ubuntu 12.04 LTS] I have a HP Pavilion dv6 and I need a Broadcom driver (closed source) to access the internet. However, I need to download that, which I am unable to do because I do not have internet access. My ethernet port has always been broken and I have not been able to access the internet since I installed Ubuntu. I need to find a way for me to install those drivers desperately. I still have Ubuntu on my USB, which for some reason, did have the ability to install that driver (I think it's due to the fact that it already has it somewhere in the files). On my USB Ubuntu, I have that particular driver installed. I was thinking that if one of you knows where drivers are installed, I could locate those files on the USB Ubuntu, then plug in an additional USB to copy them; restart my computer to the harddrive Ubuntu and then install the files from the (additional) USB. I would really appreciate help since to me a computer without internet is useless.

So, my questions are: How can I pass in a collection to my XSLT? What do I put for the xsl:value-of select="" inside the xsl:for-each ? Is what I am trying to do impossible?

  • Using the filename for GET data and making the PHP page output as a JPG extension?

    Alright, currently I'm using GD to create a PNG image that logs a few different things, depending on the GET data, for example: http://example.com/file.php?do=this will log one thing while http://example.com/file.php?do=that will log another thing. However, I'd like to do it without GET data, so instead http://example.com/dothis.php will log one thing, and http://example.com/dothat.php will log the other. But on top of that, I'd also like to make it accessible via the JPG file extension. I've seen this done but I can't figure out how. So that way http://example.com/dothis.JPG will log one thing, while http://example.com/dothat.JPG logs the other. The logging part is simple, of course. I simple need to know how to use filenames in place of the GET data and how to set the php file to be accessible via a jpg file extension.

  • How do I write a Photoshop Extension (8BX) plugin?

    The Adobe Photoshop CS3/4 SDk has a lot of examples for Filter, Import, Export etc plugins but I havent found anything that illustrates how to write a 8BX plugin. Reason I need to write one is to add a new drop down menu to the Photoshop root toolbar (where it displays File, Edit, Image .. Window. Help drop down menus). I have seen product like OneSoftware install an 8BX plugin into Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Extensions directory that causes PS to add adrop down menu for OneSoft. That suggest this is a solvable problem :-) I tried by changing an existing plugin in the SDlK samples but no go. Specifically i modified the resource file: resource 'PiPL' (ResourceID, plugInName " PiPL", purgeable) { { Kind { **Extension** }, Name { plugInName "..." }, ... Despite using the Extension Kind , PS never loads the plugin. It doesnt generate any compile time or load error either. Anyone has ideas on how to go about doing this ? Thanks

And finally, my question: Will this process ever finish? If those numbers from fseek (48404774912) represent bytes, that would be something like 45 gigabytes, with this beeing a 3 terrabyte disk, which would give me 134 days to go, if the speed stays constant, and e2fsck scans the disk like this completly and only once. Do you have some advice for me? I have most of the data on that disk elsewhere, but I've put a lot of hours into sorting and merging it to this disk, so I would prefer to getting this disk up and running again, without formatting it anew. I don't think that the hardware is damaged since the disk is only a few months and since I can't see any I/O errors in the dmesg output.   • win8: access denied to external USB disk; update access rights fails

    I use to work with 2 laptops (vista and win7), my work being files on an external usb disk. My oldest laptop broke down, so I bought a new one. I had no option other than take win8. 1/ I suspect something changed with access rights, as my external disk suffered some "access denied" problem on win8. I was prompted (by win8) somehow to fix the access rights, which I tried to do, getting to the properties - security. This process was very slow and ended up saying "disk is not ready". Additonnally, the usb somehow was not recognized anymore. 2/ Back to win7, I was warned that my disk needed to be verified, which I did. In this process, some files were lost (most of them i could recover from the folder found00x, but I have some backup anyway). Also, I don't know why, but under win7, all the folder showed with a lock. 3/ Then back again to win8. Same problem : access denied to my disk + no way to change access rights as it gets stuck "disk is not ready". Now I am pretty sure there is some kind of bug or inconsistence in win8 / win7. I did 2/ and 3/ a few times. At some point, I also got an access denied in win7. I could restore access rigths to the disk to "system" (properties - security - EDIT for full control to group "system" ...). But then I still get the same access right pb on win8, and getting stuck in the process to restore full control to "system" -- and "admin" groups. Now, after I tried for more than 3 days, I am losing my patience with that bloody win8 which I did not want to buy but had no choice. I upgraded win8 with the windows updates available. Does not help. Anybody can help me ?
