• I Need Help Fixing My Small Time Sheet Table - Relational DB - SQL Server

  I have a TimeSheet table as: CREATE TABLE TimeSheet ( timeSheetID employeeID setDate timeIn outToLunch returnFromLunch timeOut ); Employee will set his/her time sheet daily, i want to ensure that he/she doesn't cheat. What should i do? Should i create a column that gets date/time of the system when insertion/update happens to the table and then compare the created date/time with the time employee's specified - If so in this case i will have to create date/time column for timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut. I don't know, what do you suggest? Note: i'm concerned about tracking these 4 columns timeIn, outToLunch, returnFromLunch and timeOut

• In SQL, a Join is actually an Intersection? And it is also a linkage or a "Sideway Union"?

  I always thought of a Join in SQL as some kind of linkage between two tables. For example, select e.name, d.name from employees e, departments d where employees.deptID = departments.deptID In this case, it is linking two tables, to show each employee with a department name instead of a department ID. And kind of like a "linkage" or "Union" sideway". But, after learning about inner join vs outer join, it shows that a Join (Inner join) is actually an intersection. For example, when one table has the ID 1, 2, 7, 8, while another table has the ID 7 and 8 only, the way we get the intersection is: select * from t1, t2 where t1.ID = t2.ID to get the two records of "7 and 8". So it is actually an intersection. So we have the "Intersection" of 2 tables. Compare this with the "Union" operation on 2 tables. Can a Join be thought of as an "Intersection"? But what about the "linking" or "sideway union" aspect of it?

• dirtyFields with itemview

  I have a master/detail application that I'm building with backbone marionette. as the user clicks the master rows, the detail will show the row details. users need to be able to edit the row. I'd like the notify them if they try to 'leave' the row before saving. I was thinking that I'd use the dirtyFields plugin for this functionality. Has anyone else used these together? when I swap out my itemview, how do I initialize the plugin? when I close the view, is there anything I should think about to clean up the view? any thoughts would be appreciated. thx

  We have the Boost library in our side. It consists of huge amount of files which are not changing ever and only a tiny portion of it is used. We swap the whole boost directory if we are changing versions. Currently we have the Boost sources in our SVN, file by file which makes the checkout operations very slow, especially on Windows. It would be nice if there were a notation / plugin to address C++ files inside ZIP files, something like: // @ZIPFS ASSIGN 'boost' 'boost.zip/boost' #include <boost/smart_ptr/shared_ptr.hpp> Are there any support for compiler hooks in g++? Are there any effort regarding ZIP support? Other ideas?

• Diff applications going crazy if the functions in the file were reordered

  I've been busy refactoring a file in our project and as part of my changes I reordered the function to a more logical way. However, now when I'm trying to review my changes I get a mess: The diff applications has no idea that the functions were merely reordered and marks 80% of the file content as changed. I've tried to see the diff with both "Beyond Compare" and "WinMerge" to the same result. Is there some setting that might help me here? As tagged, I am using C# on Windows.

• How do I arbitrarily reorder lines in a text file using a Unix shell?

  I've got a text file with an arbitrary number of lines, e.g.: one line some other line an additional line one more here I'd like to write a script to reorder those lines based on a given order. e.g. An input of 2 1 3 4 would swap the first and second lines. An input of 3 1 2 4 would put the 3rd line first, the 1st line second, the 2nd line third and keep the 4th line fourth. I could hack something together, but I'm wondering if there's an elegant solution? I can use either bash or ksh.

• Comparing two speech sounds

  I need to be able to determine if two sounds are very similar. The goal is to have a very limited vocabulary (10 or 15) of short one or two syllable words, then compare a captured sound to determine if it is one of those items with all the usual variability in environmental and capture conditions. The idea is that the user can issue a few simple commands by voice instead of keyboard or mouse. Does anyone know the best approach to this? I don't want to do full blown speech recognition, just something much more limited.

  In a form, compare BeginInvoke (new Action (() => { MessageBox.Show ()); })); with Invoke (new Action (() => { MessageBox.Show ()); })); What is the difference, and when should I use one over the other? How is the behavior affected by the message pump of the MessageBox? I did some testing and found that both methods block the UI. The only difference is that Invoke is actually called instantly while BeginInvoke takes a (very short) time until the code is run. This is to be expected.

  Hi, I have one tables ids in an array and they are ordered in the way I want and I have to select data from another table using those ids and in a order they are listen in the array. Pretty confusing but I was thinking of two solutions giving ORDER BY parameter the array but I do not know if that possible and another is to get all the necessary data and then turn it to array (mysql_fetch_assoc) then compare those two and somehow order the new array using the ids array. But I also do not know how to do this... Any ideas?

• django accessing class variables in a view

  hello, i want to make a notification function, and i need fields from 2 different models. how can i access those fields? in my notification view i wrote this data = Notices.objects.filter(last_login<date_follow) where last_login belongs to the model class User , and date_follow to Follow but it is not a proper and correct way of accessing those variables. How can i access them? I need to compare the two dates for realising the notifications that one did not see since his last login. Thanks!

• How to assess the risk of a java version upgrade?

  I'm being asked to assess whether we can safely upgrade the java version on one of our production-deployed webapps. The codebase is fairly large and we want to avoid having to regression test everything (no automated tests sadly), but we've already encountered at least one problem during some manual testing (XmlStringReader.getLocalName now throws an IllegalStateExeption when it just used to return null) and higher-ups are pretty nervous about the upgrade. The current suggested approach is to do a source compare of the JDK sources for each version and assess those changes to see which ones might have impact, but it seems there's a lot of changes to go through (and as mentioned the codebase is kinda large). Is it safe and easier to just review the java version changes for each version? Or is there an easier way to conduct this assessment? Edit: I forgot to mention the version upgrade being considered is a minor version upgrade, i.e. 1.6.10 to 1.6.33

I create datetime object from that: $dateObj = date_create_from_format("Y-m-d",$_REQUEST['dateSearch']); $dateParam = $dateObj->format("Y-m"); Then I use $dateParam in sql query to find data $sql = " SELECT * FROM `temp` as `t` WHERE `t`.`date` LIKE '$dateParam%' "; Everything is ok, but I'm not sure mySQL alway use only one datetime format "Y-m-d H:i:s". At here, $dateParam = $dateObj->format("Y-m"); I set default format is "Y-m". Is the default format never change? I don't want hard set format "Y-m-d H:i:s" in code, instead of, I think get format string from system to use is better. How do I get default datetime format string from mySQL???

  Hi, I am getting a some unusual problem with JQuery ajax. I am using IIS to host my web application and I have http handler for which I have enabled only POST verb on it. Using JQuery ajax, I am posting data to this http handler, this is working fine in our development and testing environment and also most of the time on production environment as well. But sometimes we are getting empty post data on to the server. When we look into the csBytes on IISLog we found that it was very less compare to other success post requests. We are using JSON.js to convert the javascript object back to raw json string and latest jquery.1-3.js for posting to server. Anbody know why this is happening?

• casting odd smallint time to to datetime format.

  Hello everyone, I'm working with a db (SQL server 2008), and have an interesting issue with times stored in the db. The DBA who originally set it up was crafty and stored scheduled times as smallints in 12-hour form-- 6:00AM would be represented as 600. I've figured out how to split them into hours and minutes like thus: select floor(time/100) as hr, right(time, 2) as min from table; What I want to do is compare these scheduled times to actual times, which are stored in the proper datetime format. Ideally, I would do this with two datetime fields and use datediff() between them, but this would require converting the smallint time into a datetime, which I can't figure out. Does anyone have suggestions on how to do this? Thanks in advance.

• Query useing two databases in SQL Report Builder

  I am new to SQL Server Report Builder 2.0 and I need to compare two different databases in one query. Basically I need to check if values from one database table exist in a different database's table. I know I can add multiple Datasources to my report and access each one with Subreports, but each DataSet that I create can only have one query in it. So how can I go about using one query to access two databases? Or if there is another way to somehow join my results from multiple DataSets, that would work too. Also, the databases are on the same server.

  Can someone please show me the code for sorting an NSMutableArray? I have the following NSMutableArray: NSMutableArray *arr = [[NSMutableArray alloc] init]; with elements such as "2", "4", "5", "1", "9", etc which are all NSString. I'd like to sort the list in descending order so that the largest valued integer is highest in the list (index 0). I tried the following: [arr sortUsingSelector:@selector(compare:)]; but it did not seem to sort my values properly. Can someone show me code for properly doing what I am trying to accomplish?   I have an array of structs and one of the fields in the struct is a float. I want to pick one of the structs where the probability of picking it is relative to the value of the float. ie struct s{ float probability; ... } sArray s[50]; What is the fastest way to decide which s to pick? Is there a function for this? If I knew the sum of all the probability fields (Note it will not be 1), then could I iterate through each s and compare probability/total_probability with a random number, changing the random number for each s? ie if( (float) (rand() / RAND_MAX) < probability)...

• Performance considerations of a large hard-coded array in the .cs file

  I'm writing some code where performance is important. In one part of it, I have to compare a large set of pre-computed data against dynamic values. Currently, I'm storing that pre-computed data in a giant array in the .cs file: Data[] data = { /* my data set */ }; The data set is about 90kb, or roughly 13k elements. I was wondering if there's any downside to doing this, as opposed to loading it in from an external file? I'm not entirely sure how C# works internally, so I just wanted to be aware of any performance issues I might encounter with this method.

  Hi everyone, I've been researching this problem for awhile now and I can't seem to come to a solution, hopefully someone here can help. Currently I'm working with Microsoft SQL server management, I've been trying to do the following: Previously, the old query would just return the results that fit between two dates Heres the previous query: SELECT e.Name, o.StartDate, o.EndDate FROM dbo.Name e, dbo.Date o WHERE where e.Name = o.Name and o.StartDate <= '2010-09-28 23:59:59' and o.EndDate >= '2010-9-28 00:00:00' and e.Name like 'A' Example table that is produced after the query runs (The real table has a lot more rows obviously :P) : Name Start End A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 17:00:00 A 2010-09-28 13:45:00 2010-09-28 18:00:00 A 2010-09-28 08:00:00 2010-09-28 16:00:00 A 2010-09-28 07:00:00 2010-09-28 15:30:00 However we need to change this, so that the query does the following: find the dates that intersect for a day x find the dates that don't intersect for a day x I've found a real useful site regarding this http://bloggingabout.net/blogs/egiardina/archive/2008/01/30/check-intersection-of-two-date-ranges-in-sql.aspx However the date to compare against is inputted, mine on the other hand has to all dates that intersect/don't intersect. • Cannot running next process when a variable save no value

  First, I wanna compare between 2 tables tb_wrapper and tb_summary to get the data in the tb_wrapper that doesn't exist in the tb_summary then save in $link. If I don't get the same data, I want to print the result $link. When I don't get the not same data, I want it to go to another process. • Need new method for linking to native mapping from mobile web app

  My mobile web apps use a map button which automatically starts the mapping features of Android and iPhone by simply linking to http://maps.google.com/maps?q=New+York. iOs 6 comes out, the links stop working, because Apple wants us to use "maps.APPLE.com". Turns out ANYTHING you send to "maps.apple.com" gets forwarded to "maps.google.com". So now I have to specially detect iOs 6 and swap out links just so Apple can forward everything back to Google anyway. Is there a clean way to open the device/native mapping app from a mobile web app that works on Android, iOs 6, and iOs pre-6, since iOs 6 nerfed it?
