  • Multimap Space Issue: Guava

    In my Java code, I am using Guavas Multimap (com.google.common.collect.Multimap) by using this: Multimap< Integer, Integer Index = HashMultimap.create() Here, Multimap key is some portion of URL and value is another portion of URL (converted into integer). Now, I assign my JVM 2560 Mb (2.5 GB) heap space (by using Xmx and Xms). However, it can only store 9 millions of such (key,value) pairs of integers (approx 10 million). But, theoretically (according to memory occupied by int) it should store more. Can anybody help me, 1) Why is this happening (means Multimap is taking lots of space) ? I checked my code with out inserting pairs in Multimap, it takes only 1/2 MB space. 2) Is there any other way or home-baked solution to solve this space issue ? More clearly, how to solve this memory issue ? Thanks in advance and any idea is perfectly OK for me.

  • Get Distance from geohash field in solr 3.6

    Is it possible to get distance returned from a geodist() filter, on a geohash field that has multiple values? The geosort and the geodist filter are working fine, but I'm trying to get the distance between the query point and a location that was returned in the result. I've tried http://wiki.apache.org/solr/SpatialSearch#Returning_the_distance The second method which is : //localhost:8983/solr/select?indent=true&fl=name,store&sfield=store&pt=45.15,-93.85&sort=score%20asc&q={!func}geodist() But it returns weird results, tested with 2 locations it returns score 9979.032, where there is ~33,000 Km between both points in reality? What is the unit that it uses returning the distance in the score field? I assumed km, but it does not make sense, or the result is bogus, I dunno Anyhelp would be appreciated, thanks

I use malloc because assigning it to an array will not persist after the end of the function. Second, what is the best way to point to the pointer at the specified index? I tried typecasting the first line of the 'GetPtr' function to ensure proper pointer arithmetic, but I receive the warning, 'initialization from incompatible pointer type'. Is it necessary to typecast?

  • how does serializable work in java?

    If I have an instance of a class that I store in a session I need to make it serializable. This class has a static variable, will this be serialized in every instance stored? The static variable is a reference to a cache containing a lot of data in the background. Will all of this data be serialized? If so, it seems preferable to make this variable transient and re-fetch the cache instance each time the instance is restored. Maybe not store the cache instance at all in the class. Will the constructor execute when a class is restored from a serialized state? if not is there any other method I can use to re-instate a transient variable?

    What is a good approach for credential checks for windows mobile app. Knowing that it is an occasionally connected device. Should I keep the user credential into the local database? If the credential doesn't exist in the db, try to see if it has internet access and do the check through a web service? If both fails then display an error message ? If logins is successful then store the credential to the local database store then upon next login go against the database first? Is this a good approach?

    This one has bugged me for the longest time and a great question to ask the Stackoverflow users I think. I have a rather large SSIS flow that uses a string variable to store the datetime. I would now like to dynamically read the datetime value from the database, but how would you construct the SSIS to do this? My first obvious thought would be to simply execute a SQL task to get the datetime and store it in the variable, but got the "differs from the current variable type" error. Is there a simple way to convert the database datetime into a String variable? Any help from the community would be appreciated,

    I am working on a online file management project. We are storing references on the database (sql server) and files data on the on file system. We are facing a problem of coordination between file system and database while we are uploading a file and also in case of deleting a file. First we create a reference in the database or store files on file system. The problem is that if I create a reference in the database first and then store a file on file system, but while storing files on the file system any type of error occur, then the reference for that file is created in the database but no file data exist on the file system. Please give me some solution how to deal with such situation. I am badly in need of it. This case happens also while we deleting a file?

    Hello everybody! I want to transfer big files (1GB) over unreliable transport channels. When connection is interrupted, I don't want start file transfering from the begining. I can partially store it in a temp table and store last readed position, so when connection is reestablished I can request continue uploading of file from this position.     We are having a situation in which the values we store on memcache are bigger than 1MB. It is not possible to make such values smaller, and even if there was a way, we need to persist them to disk. One solution would be to recompile the memcache server to allow say 2MB values, but this is either not clean nor a complete solution (again, we need to persist the values). Good news is that We can predict quite acurately how many key/values pair we are going to have We can also predict the total size we will need. A key feature for us is the speed of memcache. So question is: is there any noSQL replacement for memcache which will allow us to have values longer than 1MB AND store them in disk without loss of speed? In the past I have used tokyotyrant/cabinet but seems to be deprecated now. Any idea?

  • iPhone CoreData Migration and modifying data

    I have an app that has both static data and user entered data in the CoreData store. I understand how to do a lightweight migration to a new database version, but how to I add or modify the static data without affecting the users data? If I have 50 static data entries to add and a couple to modify (ie. spelling mistakes) should they be stored in a different sqlite db and copied over? Also, is it possible to look at the version of the data store so that this copy only happens the first time the app is started up after upgrading?     Where is the best place to store application preferences? In particular, I'd like to save preferences for a media player such as volume levels and the like. Two candidates spring to mind... file and registry. Which would be more appropriate? As a follow up to this, I'm also wondering if there are any APIs that aid in creating application specific settings. Unless someone advises me that this is wrong, I'd like to save stuff either in HKCU... or HKLM/Software/MyCompanyName/MyAppName/Key for the registry, or in %APPDATA\MyCompanyName\MyAppName\someTypeOfSettingsFile. As these seem to be commonly used for such settings, I'd assume that .Net makes it easy to store settings in these locations. Is there a simple high level API that can .Net offer me to read and write settings to these common locations?

  • Serving large generated files using Google App Engine?

    Hiya, Presently I have a GAE app that does some offline processing (backs up a user's data), and generates a file that's somewhere in the neighbourhood of 10 - 100 MB. I'm not sure of the best way to serve this file to the user. The two options I'm considering are: Adding some code to the offline processing code that 'spoofs' it as a form upload to the blob store, and going thru the normal blobstore process to serve the file. Having the offline processing code store the file somewhere off of GAE, and serving it from there. Is there a much better approach I'm overlooking? I'm guessing this is functionality that isn't well suited to GAE. I had thought of storing in the datastore as db.Text or Dd.Blob but there I encounter the 1 MB limit. Any input would be appreciated,

As far as I see from assembler listing, generated by compiler it is implemented as a plain load on x86, however plain loads as far as I know guaranteed to have acquire semantics, while plain stores are guaranteed to have release. Sequentially-consistent store is implemented as locked xchg, while load as plain load. That sounds strange to me, could you please explain this in details? added Just found in internet, that sequentially-consistent atomic load could be done as simple mov as long as store is done with locked xchg, but there was no prove and no links to documentation. Do you know where can I read about that? Thanks in advance.

  • Is SHA sufficient for checking file duplication? (sha1_file in PHP)

    Suppose you wanted to make a file hosting site for people to upload their files and send a link to their friends to retrieve it later and you want to insure files are duplicated where we store them, is PHP's sha1_file good enough for the task? Is there any reason to not use md5_file instead? For the frontend, it'll be obscured using the original file name store in a database but some additional concerns would be if this would reveal anything about the original poster. Does a file inherit any meta information with it like last modified or who posted it or is this stuff based in the file system? Also, is using a salt frivolous since security in regards of rainbow table attack mean nothing to this and the hash could later be used as a checksum? One last thing, scalability? initially, it's only going to be used for small files a couple of megs big but eventually... Edit 1: The point of the hash is primarily to avoid file duplication, not to create obscurity.

    I'm building a search using ext-js. I have an event that fires on keyup. I want to be able to change either the URL I'm searching, or the params. I've had luck with neither. Here's my snippit of code: Ext.get("search").on('keyup', function() { proxy.url = '/customer/list?key=' + $('search').value; store.load(); }); But, no love for me. The store loads, but the proxy.url is the old value. Is what I'm trying to do possible? Thanks in advance!

In particular, I want to restrict the vector to beonly be able to store single digits. So, if I do a l[9]++, it should give me an error or warn me. (because 10 is not a single digit number). Similarly, l[0]-- should warn me. Is there a way to do this using C++ STL vector?

    I have to store versionName of a template. VersionName is autoincremented.If last versionName is "Version 1.0", next should be "version 2.0". First time when a template is created, I have to store "Version 1.0". I am using VersionName = "Version "+((LatestVersion+1).ToString()) LatestVersion holds the last version which is 0 in case added for first time. This seems to be a ugly workaround and doesnot even yield Version 1.0. it yields Version 1. I Tried with Version class as well,it does not work. How to accomplish this.Please suggest
