• Need help identiying a nasty rootkit in Windows

  I have a nasty rootkit that not tools seem to be able to idenity. I know for sure it's a rootkit, but I can figure out which rootkit it is. Here's what I gathered so far: It creates multiple copies of itself in %HOME%\Local Settings\Temp with names like Q.EXE, IAJARZ.exe, etc., and install them as hidden services. These EXE have SysInternals identifiers in them so they're definitely rootkits. It hooked very deep in the system, including file read/write, security policies, registry read/write, and possibly WinSock/TCP/IP. When going to Sophos.com to download their software, the rootkit inject something called Microsoft Ajax Tootkit into the page, which injects code into the email submission form in order to redirect it. (EDIT: I might have panicked. Looks like Sophos does use an AJAZ email form, their form is just broken on Chrome so it looked like a mail form injection attack, the link is http://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/free-tools/virus-removal-tool/download.aspx ) Super-Antispyware found a lot of spyware cookies, in the name of .kaspersky.2o7.net, etc. (just chedk 2o7.net, looks like it's a legit ad company) I tried comparing DNS lookup from the infected systems and from system in other physical locations, no DNS redirections it seems. I used dd to copy the MBR and compared it with the MBR provided by ms-sys package, no differences so it's not infecting MBR. No antivirus or rootkit scanner be able to identify it. Most of them can't even find it. I tried scanning, in-situ (normal mode), in safe mode, and boot to linux live CD. Scanners used: Avast, Sophos anti rootkit, Kasersky TDSSKiller, GMER, RootkitRevealer, and many others. Kaspersky reported some unsigned system files that ought to be signed (e.g. tcpip.sys), and reported a number of MD5 mismatches. But otherwise couldn't identify anything based on signature. When running Sysinternal RootkitRevealer and Sophos AntiRootkit, CPU usage goes up to 100% and gets stucked. The Rootkit is blocking them. When trying running/installing HiJackThis, RootkitRevealer and some other scanners, it tells me system security policy prevent running/installing it. The list of malicious acitivities go on and on. here's a sample of logs from all my scans. In particular, aswSnx.SYS, apnenfno.sys and PROCMON20.SYS has a huge number of hooks. It's hard to tell if the rootkit replaced legit program files like aswSnx.SYS (from Avast) and PROCMON20.SYS (from Sysinternal Process Monitor). I can't find whether apnenfno.sys is from a legit program. Help to identify it is appreciated. • Twitter 2 for Android crash every time I try uploading multi photos [closed]

  Hello, I'm using the new Twitter 2 on Android 2.1. Whenever I hit the button which enables me to upload multiple photos in a single tweet, I always get the error "The application Camera (process com.sonyericsson.camera) has stopped unexpectidly. Please try again". However, uploading a single photo using the camera button in Twitter have no problem, it works. My phone is Sony Ericsson x10 mini pro. I tried signing out and back in, same result. Anything I can do to fix this? • DNS resolution problems; dig SERVFAIL error

  I'm setting up a couple of dedicated servers, and having problems setting up my nameservers properly. One of these is a LEMP server (LAMP with nginx in place of Apache), and the other will function solely as an email server, running exim/dovecot/ASSP antispam (no Apache). The LEMP server is CentOS 5.5, with no control panel, while the email server is CentOS 5.5 as well, with cPanel/WHM. So, I've had problems getting DNS set up properly. I have two domains, each one pointing to one of these servers. The nameservers are registered correctly with the domain registrar, and the nameserver IPs are entered correctly as well. I've spoken to tech support at the registrar and they confirm that everything is set up on their end. Not knowing much about DNS, I googled nameservers and DNS until I nearly went blind, and spent hours messing with the configuration. Eventually, I got the LEMP server's DNS working properly (no cPanel). Pleased with this triumph, I'm trying to mimic that configuration and repeat the process with the email server, and it's just not happening. The nameserver starts and stops, but the domain doesn't resolve. Things I have tried Going through standard procedures to set up DNS in WHM Clearing all DNS information, uninstalling BIND, then reinstalling all of that and again going through WHM procedures for setting up DNS Clearing all DNS information, and setting up BIND via shell (completely outside of cPanel) by using my config and zone files from the LEMP server as a template named runs just fine, but nothing is resolving. When I "dig any example.com" I get a SERVFAIL message. Nslookups return no information. If I try to DIG from my other server (in the same datacenter), or from the internet, it times out or I get SERVFAIL.

• Connecting via ShrewSoft VPN client means no LAN internet access (Windows 7 64 bit) - any advice please?

  I have a Windows 7 64 bit desktop machine which is connected to a LAN. I recently installed ShrewSoft VPN client v 2.1.7 on my machine so that I can connect to a license server hosted by my customer. They are running a Cisco VPN server and I originally tried (unsuccessfully!) to use the Cisco VPN client for Windows 64 bit but the default gateway wasn't being configured correctly after loading in my pcf file. Using ShrewSoft I am able to import the same pcf file, and successfully connect to the machine I need to using the VPN client software. The client machine I need to connect to has IP address 1.52.90.33. The problem is that when I am connected to the customer network using the VPN client application (and after a few minutes) I lose my LAN internet connection. I can only presume that this is because, by default the ShrewSoft VPN client application automatically tunnels all traffic through the VPN connection. I know there is an option to switch off the "Tunnel All" option on the Policy tab of the application and enter a Remote Network Resource (to "Include" or "Exclude") as "Address" and "Netmask" IP addresses however I am not sure what I need to enter here. • WPF Blurry Images - Bitmap Class

  I am using the following sample at http://blogs.msdn.com/dwayneneed/archive/2007/10/05/blurry-bitmaps.aspx within VB.NET. The code is shown below. I am having a problem when my application loads the CPU is pegging 50-70%. I have determined that the problem is with the Bitmap class. The OnLayoutUpdated() method is calling the InvalidateVisual() continously. This is because some points are not returning as equal but rather, Point(0.0,-0.5) Can anyone see any bugs within this code or know a better implmentation for pixel snapping a Bitmap image so it is not blurry? p.s. The sample code was in C#, however I believe that it was converted correctly.   I recently built a simple web-app deployed over Tomcat. The app uses pretty standard session based security where a user who has logged in is given a session. Sessions work fine in Firefox and Chrome, but require the use of jsessionid in the URL for IE (tested 7 & 8), set to medium privacy. In IE 8, I tried to override cookie handling, setting "Allow all 3rd party cookies" and "Allow all session cookies"- no dice. However, when I run Tomcat on my local machine, IE accepts the cookie, and sessions work just fine. And now, for the HTTP headers. The DLL is not normally signed, but I provided a signed version to test and received the same results. The installation is being done by someone else, and I don’t have access to the box, but they are executing scripts that I provided and work on other computers. I have tried to find information about this error beyond what the results of the script provide, but I haven’t found anything helpful. The person executing the script to create the assembly is logged in with an Admin account, is running CMD as admin, is connecting to the DB via Windows Authentication, has been added to the dbo_owner role, and added to the server role SysAdmin with the hopes that it is a permissions issue. This hasn't changed anything. Do I need to configure SQL Server 2005 Express differently for this environment? Is this error logged anywhere other than just the output from SQLCMD? What could cause this error? Could Vista security policies cause this? I don’t have access to the computer (the customer is doing the testing) so I can’t examine the box myself. TIA

• VS2010 Assembly Load Error

  I am getting the following error when I try to build an ASP.NET 4 project in Visual Studio 2010: "Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\Dev\project\trunk\bin\Elmah.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)". I have verified that the dll does, in fact, exist, and is getting copied to the bin folder correctly. I have also tried removing and then re-adding the reference to the project. The build only fails when I switch the Solution Configuration to "Release". It does not fail when the Solution Configuration is set to "Debug". These numbers and the GUID held within the key gives important information to execute the HID.dll that is otherwise imposable to execute. The Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager/USB Serial Bus Controllers/Mass Storage Devices/details simply lists the registry data. The access to the programmer has been documented through the API32.dll with a number of procedures that accesses the registry. But that is not the problem yet it looks like the problem!!!!!!!!! The key is info about the registry and how to use it. These keys are viewed in RegEdit.exe it’s self. Some parts of the registry like the USB have been given a windows security system type of protection with a Aurthz.dll to give the USB read and right protection. Even the api32.dll. Now only Microsoft give out these details and we all know Microsoft hate Delphi. Now C users have enjoyed this access for over 10 years now. Now some will make out that you should never give out such information because some idiot may make a stupid virus (true), but the argument is also do Delphi users need to be denied USB access for another ten years!!!!!!!!!!!!. What I do not have is the skill in is assembly code. I’m seeking for some one that can trace how regedit.exe gets its access through Aurthz.dll to access the USB data. So I’m asking all who reads this:- to partition any friend they have that has this skill to get the Aurthz.dll info needed. I find communicating with USB.org they reply when they have a positive email reply but do not bother should their email be a slightly negative policy. For all simple reasoning, all that USB had to do was to have a secure key as they have done, and to update the same data into a unsecured key every time the data is changed for USB developer to access. And not bother developers access to Aurthz.dll. Made its anonymous access enabled for all site content. This wss app is in the "wss3" server. 2. created a membership db with regsql.exe in .net framework folder.Created it with its default settings, like aspnetdb named database.This db is in the "sqlserver" server. 3. gave db.owner permission to the web app. admin of wss to the aspnetdb database. Successfully logged in. With no privilages ofcourse. 9. Tried to give permission via Web Application Policy to that user which logged in. 10. People Picker couldn't find it at all. Any of the forms users couldn't be found. But it clearly tells that AD connection is also changed that none of the AD users couldn't be found either. I installed IIS7 on Windows Server 2008 R2 and added these two application to my default website. I am having a number of problems so im hoping one of you can help out... 1) The silverlight and WCF service applications do not work with pass-through authentication. I need to "connect as" the administrator server account when setting up the application. I read online that you should only need to use the "connect as" field when you are connecting to another computer. If i dont supply the admin credentials i get this error. • NullPointerException in ItemizedOverlay.getIndexToDraw

  I have a relatively simple MapActivity that I'm trying to make display a list of "camps" within a given map region. I've created a custom subclass of OverlayItem called CampOverlayItem, a custom ItemizedOverlay called CampsOverlay that returns CampOverlayItems, and of course a MapActivity subclass that populates the map. I'm pulling the overlay data from a database using an AsyncTask as created in my activity. The AsyncTask is triggered from a ViewTreeObserver.OnGlobalLayoutListener attached to the MapView. In the onPostExecute method of the AsyncTask, I create a new instance of my CampsOverlay class and pass it a list of the camps returned from the database (which are fetched in doInBackground). I then call: mapView.getOverlays().add(newOverlay); where newOverlay is the CampsOverlay I just created.   Hi, My project is running fine, but its requirement for some DLLs means it cannot be simply dragged and dropped by the end user. The DLLs are not loaded when put side by side with my executable, because my executable is not an application, and its location is not in the few locations where Windows looks for DLL. I already asked a question about how to make their loading happen. None of the suggestions worked (see the question at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2637499/how-can-a-win32-app-plugin-load-its-dll-in-its-own-directory) So I am now exploring another way: get rid of the DLLs altogether, and link with static versions of them. This is failing for the last of those DLLs. So I am at this point where all but one of the libraries are statically linked, and everything is fine. The last library is the standard C library for mySQL, aka Connector/C. The problem I have may or may not be related with that origin. Whenever I switched to the static library in the linker additional dependency, I get the following errors (log at the end): 1- about 40 duplicate symbols (e.g. _toupper) mutually between LIBCMT.lib and MSVCRT.lib. Interestingly, I can't control the inclusion of these two libraries: they are from Visual Studio and automatically included. So why are these symbol duplicate when I include mySQL's static lib, but not its DLL? When I click on the RouteLink in the partial InactiveUsers view, it should bring me to the reset password page with a url that looks like this: http://localhost:83/ControlPanel/changeUserPassword/[email protected], HOWEVER, what happens when I click on the RouteLink is an error is thrown to say that the view changeUserPassword cannot be found, and the URL looks like this: http://localhost:83/ControlPanel/changeUserPassword/example1%40gmail.com - See how the '@' symbol gets messed up? I've also debugged through the code, and in my GET changeUserPassword, the username is populating correctly: [email protected], so I'm thinking it's just the URL that's messing it up? If I type in the URL manually, the changeUserPassword view displays, however the password reset function does not work. An 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' exception is thrown at the if (mu.ChangePassword(mu.ResetPassword(), password)) line. I think if I could solve the first issue (URL '@' symbol problem) it might help me along with my second issue.   I've received report from the user of an app I've written that he gets FC whenever starting a certain activity. It's quite verbose, so I'm posting it here, rather than pasting the whole thing on SO. There is a tabwidget, where one tab is connected to the scrollview, svFilmInfo, and one to the linear layout llComments. The tab host is populated as such: Drawable commentSelector = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.tabcomment); Drawable infoSelector = getResources().getDrawable(R.drawable.tabinfo); mTabHost = getTabHost(); mTabHost.getTabWidget().setBackgroundColor(Color.BLACK); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tabInfo").setIndicator("Filminfo", infoSelector).setContent(R.id.svFilmInfo)); mTabHost.addTab(mTabHost.newTabSpec("tabInfo").setIndicator("Kommentarer", commentSelector).setContent(R.id.llComments)); Since I cannot reproduce the error myself, and since I cannot find any mention in the stack trace of what might be causing the error, I don't quite know where to start troubleshooting this. • Error When Loading Images on Local Host Test Server

  I have a peculiar problem that I just can't seem to find an explanation. I'm working on an AngularJS site for our family and am integrating data from various web services. Currently I am working on the photos section which will integrate in photos from our Flickr account. I have a main page which lists the various photo sets and displays the set's primary photo along with the title. (Note: I'm using the Flickr 'extras' parameter to return the primary photo's URL in the API calls.) <div data-ng-repeat="p in vm.photoSets"> <a ng-href="#/photos/{{p.id}}"> <img ng-src="{{p.primary_photo_extras.url_s}}"></img> </a> <h4>{{p.title._content}}</h4> </div> When clicking on the photo, the routing will display a page with a list of all the photos from that set, showing the image and the title. <div data-ng-repeat="p in vm.photoSetData.photo"> <a ng-href="#/photos/{{vm.photoSetId}}/{{p.id}}" <img ng-src="{{p.url_s}}"></img> </a> <h4>{{p.title}}</h4> </div> Now, here's where the problem is occuring. When I upload the code to my public website on my hosting provider, everything works just fine. Both pages display their respective photos. In fact, the image title does display! I've tested it with Firefox, Safari and Chrome...all three browsers fail. I cannot find any explanation as to why it would work remotely but fail locally. Also, the images show up on the first page, but not on the second, even though one of the images on the second page is the same image URL as on the first page. Even going directly to the second page, bypassing the first page, still fails. Any ideas on how to fix this? It would be nice to test locally without having to upload to the server each time I make a change. Update: I have shut off the $sce security to see if that was causing the issue. Although it resulted in turning the error off, the files still don't load on the local test server. I have used the developer tools' network monitor and it doesn't even show an attempt to retrieve the files. AngularJS appears to shut down the retrieval, although the correct path shows up in the DOM.
