• PLS HELP!!How to boot windows 7 after installing ubuntu 12.10?

  Im new to linux and im interested in learning it so I installed ubuntu 12.10 yesterday. Installation went smoothly and i chose "install alongside windows option" and I set about 50 gb using that slider and i tot i used 50 gb from c: drive but to my shock it used 50 gb space from f: drive. This was my first shock.Then when i restarted n tried to log into windows, nothing happened a black screen appeared saying "To restart press alt+ctrl+delete" but even pressing that it wont restart. No matter how many times i try rebooting windows is not booting same black screen saying restart appears. But i can log in to ubuntu and i can see that windows c: drive is fine. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

• PLEASE HELP! Cannot login to server after file permissions change!

  So, I did something really stupid. Please bear with me as I am new to ubuntu server. I ran chmod -R 700 / when I was logged in as root. Now when I try to login as my normal user I immediately get kicked out. Is there anyway to log back in to the server whether it is root or whoever so that I can change the permissions? or am I totally screwed? I dont think I have root access enabled in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file. I do have physical access to the server. I really need some help here. Thanks in advance!

• I Can't install Skype on Ubuntu 12.04 x64. Can someone help me?

  I'm having a trouble when trying to install Skype on my Ubuntu 12.04.1 x64. My notebook have compatible hardware with Ubuntu. My previous OS installed on this machine was the Ubuntu 12.04 x64 and Skype was working great, but I got a formatation and I installed the New ubuntu 12.04.1. When I try to install by the Ubuntu software Center, or by the sudo apt-get install skype, I get this error message (in Portuguese) : "Os pacotes a seguir têm dependências desencontradas: skype: Depend: skype-bin E: impossivel corrigir problemas, você manteve (hold) pacotes quebrados." Something like i have the skype-bin package missing (or broken). I can't find it on Software center. I tried to install it by downloading a deb package with the skype-bin package but it ask for a lot another packages! I tried install the .deb package from the official Skype site, but I got the same error! Any Help? Sorry about my bad English, I'm Brazilian

I need to build an efficient way of finding all the lines in each list that has the same 'control' number (or key for dB guys) and comparing what is in their string parts. I am writing this in Java.   Torrent from the Pirate Bay even though I have Tixati installed and working? Asks for an application which I don't have (apturl or something similar?) Trying to get the latest AMD Radeon drivers automatically installed? the main file downloads...but just shows up in a window full of files but idk where to drag them. And PlayOnLinux my one hope for gaming since Steam is buggin out without proper drivers? Can't figure out where to "mount" the DVD version it asks for. I'm so lost. I dove head first into the Linux thing thinking it was wildly superior, and maybe it is, but dang if the simplest things aren't hard to do. Any help appreciated. I've been reading guides and manuals but what I need is human experience most of all.

• Help assigning product id for e-commerce site? [closed]

  I am starting an e-commerce marketplace. I am new to e-commerce, but I am taking it up as a challenge. I will have multiple vendors on my site and they will upload their products through CSV files for bulk upload. However there will be certain popular products already listed in the database, they can add those to their listing (like Amazon for 3rd party sellers). I have no idea how to assign product codes for every product, can you help me out? I'm talking about something like Amazon's ASIN number. Or may be is it possible to let vendors assign their own numbers? How does that work?

• I cannot login to my ubuntu admin!!!! HELP!

  I used lightdm to hide the users at the login prompt of ubuntu and it hid my account. The only one visible is "other" and it doesn't even have a known password. So, I have accessed the terminal and created a guest account and another account without passwords and they are not visible. I am new to using the terminal so I don't know how to write the commands for either: making all users/accounts visible to the login and/or making the guest accounts visible, and then once in the GUI change the login settings to see my admin account. I have no idea of what else I could do, or even how to do it. I would appreciate any help, I'm in a desperate situation because I really need to access my desktop! THANK YOU!!! • Big smart ViewModels, dumb Views, and any model, the best MVVM approach?

  The following code is a refactoring of my previous MVVM approach (Fat Models, skinny ViewModels and dumb Views, the best MVVM approach?) in which I moved the logic and INotifyPropertyChanged implementation from the model back up into the ViewModel. This makes more sense, since as was pointed out, you often you have to use models that you either can't change or don't want to change and so your MVVM approach should be able to work with any model class as it happens to exist. This example still allows you to view the live data from your model in design mode in Visual Studio and Expression Blend which I think is significant since you could have a mock data store that the designer connects to which has e.g. the smallest and largest strings that the UI can possibly encounter so that he can adjust the design based on those extremes. Questions: I'm a bit surprised that I even have to "put a timer" in my ViewModel since it seems like that is a function of INotifyPropertyChanged, it seems redundant, but it was the only way I could get the XAML UI to constantly (once per second) reflect the state of my model. So it would be interesting to hear anyone who may have taken this approach if you encountered any disadvantages down the road, e.g. with threading or performance. The following code will work if you just copy the XAML and code behind into a new WPF project.   I have tons of ajax components on this booking engine. I need to customize the text inside of the modal for each of the components to suite.   I want to create a .NET CF application for Windows Mobile 5. In this application, I want to load a COM object based on the ProgID (or CLSID). How do I load this COM object in such a way that I can access its methods as if it were just another .NET object? In addition: how can I configure the projects / solutions in Visual Studio in such a way, that when I debug the application, I am sure that the COM object that is loaded is the one that is installed on the device, not one that may be accessible through the debugger? I have tried adding the .ocx file as a Reference, but I get an error, and I am not sure about 'question 2'. I have also tried loading the COM object using Type type = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("my.prog.id") MyObject myObject = (MyObject)Activator.CreateInstance(type) ...but this results in an InvalidCastException on the second line.

• Using smartctl to get vendor specific Attributes from ssd drive behind a SmartArray P410 controller

  Recently I have deployed some HP server with SSD's behind a SmartArray P410 controller. While not official supported from HP the server work well sofar. Now I like to get wear level info's, error statistics etc from the drive. While the SA P410 supports a passthru of the SMART Command to a single drive in the array the output I was not able to the the interesting things from the drive. • LAMP Stack Versioning -- Is there a website or version tracker source to help suggest the right versions of each part of a platform stack?

  Taken singly, it's easy to research versions and compatibility. Version information is readily available on each single part of a platform stack, such as MySQL. You can find out the latest version, stable version, and sometimes even the percentage of people adopting it by version (personally, I like seeing numbers on adoption rates). However, when trying to find the best possible mix of versions, I have a harder time. For example, "if you're using MySQL 5.5, you'll need PHP version XX or higher." It gets even more difficult to mitigate when you throw higher level platforms into the mix such as Drupal, Joomla, etc. I do consider "wizard" like installers to be beneficial, such as the Bitnami installers. However, I always wonder if those solutions cater more to the least common denominator -- be all to many -- and as such, I think I'd be better to install things on my own. Such solutions do seem kind of slow to adopt new versions, slower than necessary, I suspect. Is there a website or tool that consolidates versioning data in order to help a webmaster choose which versions to deploy or which upgrades to install, in consideration of all the other parts of the stack?

  Need help moving a web site for a client, which I will call ClientABC. The web site is ClientABC.com, which is hosted at Rackspace, with their email hosted at eHost. We are transferring the site from Rackspace to WinHost and are keeping the email hosted at eHost. I would like the transfer to happen with little to no down time for the web site and email (email is most important). Current Config: Client owns domain and registrar is Network Solutions Domain name is managed by VendorX at Rackspace Web site is hosted on Rackspace servers Email is hosted at eHost Post-Move Config: Web site is hosted at WinHost Keep Email at eHost Here is my plan for the transfer: Copy the site files to WinHost and test to assure site is fully functional Set up the MX record in the WinHost account to point to eHost servers Change the DNS in Network Solutions from Rackspace to Winhost Questions: Will this work? What am I missing? Should I expect down time or any issues with email? I understand that there will be a period of time that traffic to the site is handled at both Rackspace and Winhost and that email traffic will be routed through both hosts as well. Will this cause issues? How will I know when the change is fully propagated and that Rackspace is out of the equation and WinHost is handling everything (so I can kill the Rackspace account) Thanks in advance!
