I'm building a Client / Server app that has some very specific needs. There are 2 kinds of servers: the first kind provide most of the remote procedures and clients connect to these directly, while the second kind is a single server that should keep track of what users are active (clients) and how many servers of the first kind are active when a method is called. The main thing is that the monitor should ONLY connect to the servers and not the clients directly. My first idea was to implement a simple login/logout rmi method when a client connects/ disconnects and keep track of those in a list but the main problem is when a client or server end abnormally. For example, if a client goes offline abruptly the server should somehow be notified and update the list accordingly, while if a server goes out all of the clients connected to it should be marked as not active in the control server. Any ideas of how to implement this functionality would be appreciated.

Referencing surrogate key

I have a table that has an autoincrement surrogate key. I want to use it as a foreign key of my other table. The thing is, I cant figure out how I can reference it to that table, because it is nearly impossible to determine what I have to reference(the actual value of the surrogate key). Please be noted that what I am trying to do is adding a tuple/record through my program(outside the dbms). The process is: Add a new record in Table1 and generate an autoincrement key. Update Add a new record in Table2 and reference its foreign key to the primary key of Table1. Update My question is : HOW do I store the foreign key if I didnt know what is it?

C# TabControl - is it possible to "disable" individual TabPages?

Is it somehow possible to disable one (or more) tabs of tab control? At some point I need to make user stay on the active tab and prevent him from leaving... I know I can disable the whole TabControl component, but that disables also all components on active tab... I also tried to use the Selecting method of TabControl: private void TabControl_Selecting(object sender, TabControlCancelEventArgs e) { e.Cancel = PreventTabSwitch; } This works, prevents user from switching (if PreventTabSwitch==true), but since all tabs look active and just don't react it's confusing... There is no Enabled property for individual tab pages, so I don't know what else to do... Thanks a lot for in advance for all tips.

Is it possible to create a sub window which will not deactivate the parent?

Normally when creating a sub window (WS_POPUP), the child window will become activate and the parent will become deactivated. However, with menus, both remain active. At least I am assuming the menu is active, it at least has focus. Example: Click on the file menu in notepad, the menu appears, yet the notepad window still looks active. Is it possible to mirror this behavior with either a window style or responding to a particular message? Thanks Another example: Combo boxes seem to show a subwindow, yet do not deactivate the window. And you can click on that subwindow, while still maintaining an activate main window. Any ideas on how to grab the class /style of that window?

Return no records if FIndKey results in False?

Using TDataSet.FindKey you can locate records. When it results in True the datasets cursor will be positioned on the found record. When it results in False the cursor is not moved. This results in the record data prior to FindKey being issued being displayed in data aware components. css override not working?

I have three tabs that change styles when clicked. class="active" gives the tab the same background as the tab content, while class="inactive" has another color. My problem is the text on the tabs, something's weird with the CSS. The default state of class="active" looks as it should, while the inactive tabs are underlined even though my CSS says text-decoration: none !important; and the clicked active tab text becomes extra bold (or maybe it's a shadow). HTML, CSS: how can I merge these divs in order to use float:left property on their children ?

hi, I've 2 sets of thumbnails and in each set I'm displaying them one nearby each other in 4 columns using float:left. I would like to "merge" the 2 sets (but I cannot change the html code) because I want the thumbnails of the second set floating right after the last thumbnail of the first set. In other terms, if in the last row there are only 2 thumbnails and the last 2 columns are empty, the thumbnails of the second set should fill the empty columns of the last row of the first set. Selecting data effectively sql

Hi, I have a very large table with over 1000 records and 200 columns. When I try to retreive records matching some criteria in the WHERE clause using SELECT statement it takes a lot of time. But most of the time I just want to select a single record that matches the criteria in the WHERE clause rather than all the records. I guess there should be a way to select just a single record and exit which would minimize the retrieval time. I tried ROWNUM=1 in the WHERE clause but it didn't really work cause I guess the engine still checks all the records even after finding the first record matching the WHERE criteria. Is there a way to optimize in case if I want to select just a few records? Thanks in advance. Edit: I am using oracle 10g.

SQL - Break a start/end time into 15 minute records

I've got a record set that consists of a start and end time in two separate fields: id - Int startTime - DateTime endTime - DateTime I'd like to find a way to query a record and return it as X records based on the number of 15 minute intervals found between the start and end times. For example, let's say I have a record like this: id, StartTime, EndTime 1, 1/1/2010 8:28 AM, 1/1/2010 8:47 AM I would return 3 records, the first would represent the 8:15 interval, #2 for the 8:30 interval and then a 3rd for the 8:45 interval. I realize this could be done using logic in an sproc, but we are trying to remain db neutral as we support multiple database engines.

Wordpress: Forcing a widget to display?

I've been trying to make a widget which stays active permanently on a wordpress sidebar, preferably being on top before all other widgets. However the only way I have figured I can do this is by manually modifying individual sidebar.php's but that is slow and inefficient. So is there a way I can force a widget to display in a sidebar? If I was to change actual wordpress code where would I go about doing htis? I Know where a widget is registered but I don't know where a widget is activated, if I knew this I think I could force the main widget I want to see active all the time be active.

Hello, I have some users setup in a MySQL table with different variables. I am trying to figure out what would be the best way to do this. Basically I want to award all of my registered and active users with bids which are stored in another table. So for the Table "users" I have ran this query: SELECT * FROM users WHERE active = 1 AND admin = 0 ORDER BY users.id ASC Which will show all active users who are not administrators. Now I would like to give each one of these users which are identified by the "ID" field in another table. So in the "bids" table I would need to add a new row for each one of those users with all of the same values except for the "user_id" field which will basically match the "id" field of the table "users" What would be the best approach for this. There are approximately 6,000+ users coming up in the first query. Please be gentle as I am not a programmer. Just need some friendly advice.

db2 stored procedure. locking / releasing table

I use a stored procedure to read/update/return certain fields in a journaled as400 table. I want to lock the table first and then release it after the record is updated. I tried tons of stuff, but releasing table is a problem. SP defines and opens cursor, selects record into variables and updates the record. I tried 'begin atomic', then lock table in exclusive mode and then when it's over, it doesn't release. Is there any statement i missing or do i need to compile it with certain parameters? I use a simple create procedure statement in AS400 navigator's sql panel to compile it. Will very appreciate some help with example. Thanks.

WPF Combobox binding: can't change selection.

After wasting hours on this, following on the heels of my Last Problem, I'm starting to feel that Framework 4 is a master of subtle evil, or my PC is haunted. I have three comboboxes and a textbox on a WPF form, and I have an out-of-the-box Subsonic 3 ActiveRecord DAL. When I load this "edit record" form, the comboboxes fill correctly, they select the correct items, and the textbox has the correct text. I can change the TextBox text and save the record just fine, but the comboboxes CANNOT BE CHANGED. The lists drop down and highlight, but when you click on an item, the item selected stays the same. RavenDB is working based on the REST principles and the Id would be like categories/1. The Id would be created by automatically when a new object is inserted to the document store. RavenDB is using a lucen query syntax for querying. Hi there, I'm trying to work out why email I send from one domain I own is rejected by another that I own, and while I think it may be related to how I've setup spf records, I'm not sure what steps I need to take to fix it. I'm not sure what I should be looking for here.
