  • Visual WebGui launches a CompanionKit for enhanced developers experience

    - by Webgui
    Visual WebGui launched a new major live demo of the platform's concepts, features and controls and the code behind them. The new Developer CompanionKit is a hige leap forward in the developer experience by allowing developers a hands-on exploration of Visual WebGui which should provide better understanding of the system and the ability to utilize the great advantages of Visual WebGui in order to develop better performing rich web applications. The CompanionKit is available online at companionkit.visualwebgui.com/main.wgx We invite you to Explore Visual WebGui via the new CompanionKit and to watch the CompanionKit Intro video. Below is a screenshot taken from the live CompanionKit which allows developers to see how applying an alternate style to the appearance of a DataGridView is done and how it looks running live and its code (C# or VB.NET). You can access the different Controls (within the Controls section) from the left navigation bar or perform a free text search which shows the relevant results from all the sections - additional sections such as a Concept section are expected to be added in the near future.   In addition, the New Developer CompanionKit which was built with Visual WebGui showcases the enhanced UI design capabilities of building more engaing, modern Web 2.0 applications. The CompanionKit will also be available for download in the next few days as part of the media for 6.4 beta 2 SDK (.NET 2.0 or .NET 3.5) under "Help and Documentation".

  • AJAX Control Toolkit - Globalization (Language)

    - by Guilherme Cardoso
    For those who use AjaxToolKit controls presenting a language-dependent data (the CalendarExternder with the names of the months and weeks, for example) you can change the language to be presented in a simple way. In Web.Config let's define the primary culture as follows: < system . web > <System. Web> < globalization uiCulture = "pt-pt" culture = "pt-pt" /> <Globalization UICulture = "en-us" culture = "en-us" /> ... ...  In this example I'm using Portuguese. To finish it is necessary to change our ScriptManager. Be it the ToolScriptManager AjaxToolKit or belonging to the ScriptManager's framework. NET, the properties as a vibrant and true are the EnableScriptGlobalization EnableScriptLocalization. < cc1 : ToolkitScriptManager ID = "ToolkitScriptManager1" runat = "server" EnableScriptGlobalization = "true" EnableScriptLocalization = "true" > <Cc1: ToolkitScriptManager ID = "ToolkitScriptManager1" runat = "server" EnableScriptGlobalization = "true" EnableScriptLocalization = "true"> </ cc1 : ToolkitScriptManager > </ Cc1: ToolkitScriptManager> or < asp : ScriptManager ID = "ScriptManager1" runat = "server" EnableScriptGlobalization = "true" EnableScriptLocalization = "true" > <Asp: ScriptManager ID = "ScriptManager1" runat = "server" EnableScriptGlobalization = "true" EnableScriptLocalization = "true"> </ asp : ScriptManager > </ Asp: ScriptManager>   Like hus we use the controls on AjaxToolKit, always using the Portuguese language. It is important that AjaxTookKit is updated to avoid shortages or errors in translation, though I have not updated by this error in the ModalPopup the latest version, and any controls that I have used are translated correctly.

  • Dynamic Forms: Pattern or AntiPattern?

    - by Segfault
    I'm sure you've seen it. The database has a bunch of tables called Forms, Controls,FormsControls, ControlSets, Actions and the program that queries these tables has a dynamically generated user interface. It will read all the forms, load a home page that has links to them all, or embed them in some tabbed or paged home page, and for each of those forms it will read the various text boxes, check boxes, radio buttons, submit buttons, combo boxes, labels and whatnot from the controls and form-to-control join tables, lay those elements out according to the database and link all the controls to logic according to other rules in the database. To me, this is an anti-pattern. It actually make the application more difficult to maintain because the design of it is now spread out into multiple different systems. Also, the database is not source controlled. Sure, it may make one or two changes go more quickly, after you've analyzed the program anyway to understand how to change the data and as long as you don't stray from the sort of changes that were anticipated and accounted for, but that's often just not sustainable. What say you?

  • Sharing A Stage: JDeveloper/ADF & NetBeans/Java EE 6?

    - by Geertjan
    A highlight for me during last week's Oracle Developer Day in Romania (which I blogged about here) was meeting Jernej Kaše (who is from Slovenia, just like my philosopher hero Slavoj Žižek), who is an Oracle Fusion Middleware evangelist. At the conference, while I was presenting NetBeans and Java EE 6 in one room, Jernej was presenting JDeveloper and ADF in another room. The application he created looks as follows, i.e., a realistic CRUD app, with a master/detail view, a search feature, and validation: In a conversation during a break, we started imagining a scenario where the two of us would be on the same stage, taking turns talking about NetBeans/Java EE and JDeveloper/ADF. In that way, attendees at a conference wouldn't need to choose which of the two topics to attend, because they'd be handled in the same session, with the session possibly being longer so that sufficient time could be spent on the respective technologies. (The JDeveloper/ADF session would then not be competing with the NetBeans/Java EE 6 session, since they'd be handled simultaneously.) The session would focus on the similarities/differences between the two respective tools/solutions, which would be extremely interesting and also unique. The crucial question in making this kind of co-presentation possible is whether (and how quickly) an application such as the one created above with JDeveloper/ADF could be created with NetBeans/Java EE 6. The NetBeans/Java EE 6 story is extremely strong on the model and controler levels, but less strong on the view layer. Though there are choices between using PrimeFaces, RichFaces, and IceFaces, that support is quite limited in the absence of a visual designer or of other specific tools (e.g., code generators to generate snippets of PrimeFaces) connected to JSF component libraries. However, it so happens that in recent months we at NetBeans have established really good connections with the PrimeFaces team (more about that another time). So I asked them what it would take to write the above UI in PrimeFaces. The PrimeFaces team were very helpful. They sent me the following screenshot, which is of the UI they created in PrimeFaces, reproducing the ADF screenshot above: Of course, the above is purely the UI layer, there's no EJB and entity classes and data connection hooked into it yet. However, this is the Facelets file that the PrimeFaces team sent me, i.e., using the PrimeFaces component library, that produces the above result: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xmlns:h="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" xmlns:f="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" xmlns:p="http://primefaces.org/ui"> <f:view> <h:head> <style type="text/css"> .alignRight { text-align: right; } .alignLeft { text-align: left; } .alignTop { vertical-align: top; } .ui-validation-required { color: red; font-size: 14px; margin-right: 5px; position: relative; vertical-align: top; } .ui-selectonemenu .ui-selectonemenu-trigger .ui-icon { margin-top: 7px !important; } </style> </h:head> <h:body> <h:form prependId="false" id="form"> <p:panel header="Employees"> <h:panelGrid columns="4" id="searchPanel"> Search <p:selectOneMenu> <f:selectItem itemLabel="FirstName" itemValue="FirstName" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="LastName" itemValue="LastName" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="Email" itemValue="Email" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="PhoneNumber" itemValue="PhoneNumber" /> </p:selectOneMenu> <p:inputText /> <p:commandLink process="searchPanel" update="@form"> <h:graphicImage name="next.gif" library="img" /> </p:commandLink> </h:panelGrid> <h:panelGrid columns="3" columnClasses="alignTop,,alignTop" style="width:90%;margin-left:10%"> <h:panelGrid columns="2" columnClasses="alignRight,alignLeft"> <h:outputLabel for="firstName">FirstName</h:outputLabel> <p:inputText id="firstName" /> <h:outputLabel for="lastName"> *LastName </h:outputLabel> <p:inputText id="lastName" style="width:250px;" /> <h:outputLabel for="email"> *Email </h:outputLabel> <p:inputText id="email" style="width:250px;" /> <h:outputLabel for="phoneNumber" value="PhoneNumber" /> <p:inputMask id="phoneNumber" mask="999.999.9999" /> <h:outputLabel for="hireDate"> *HireDate</h:outputLabel> <p:calendar id="hireDate" pattern="MM/dd/yyyy" showOn="button" /> </h:panelGrid> <p:outputPanel style="min-width:40px;" /> <h:panelGrid columns="2" columnClasses="alignRight,alignLeft"> <h:outputLabel for="jobId"> *JobId </h:outputLabel> <p:selectOneMenu id="jobId" > <f:selectItem itemLabel="Administration Vice President" itemValue="Administration Vice President" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="Vice President" itemValue="Vice President" /> </p:selectOneMenu> <h:outputLabel for="salary">Salary</h:outputLabel> <p:inputText id="salary" styleClass="alignRight" /> <h:outputLabel for="commissionPct">CommissionPct</h:outputLabel> <p:inputText id="commissionPct" style="width:30px;" maxlength="3" /> <h:outputLabel for="manager">ManagerId</h:outputLabel> <p:selectOneMenu id="manager"> <f:selectItem itemLabel="Steven King" itemValue="Steven" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="Michael Cook" itemValue="Michael" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="John Benjamin" itemValue="John" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="Dav Glass" itemValue="Dav" /> </p:selectOneMenu> <h:outputLabel for="department">DepartmentId</h:outputLabel> <p:selectOneMenu id="department"> <f:selectItem itemLabel="90" itemValue="90" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="80" itemValue="80" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="70" itemValue="70" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="60" itemValue="60" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="50" itemValue="50" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="40" itemValue="40" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="30" itemValue="30" /> <f:selectItem itemLabel="20" itemValue="20" /> </p:selectOneMenu> </h:panelGrid> </h:panelGrid> <p:outputPanel id="buttonPanel"> <p:commandButton value="First" process="@this" update="@form" /> <p:commandButton value="Previous" process="@this" update="@form" style="margin-left:15px;" /> <p:commandButton value="Next" process="@this" update="@form" style="margin-left:15px;" /> <p:commandButton value="Last" process="@this" update="@form" style="margin-left:15px;" /> </p:outputPanel> <p:tabView style="margin-top:25px"> <p:tab title="Job History"> <p:dataTable var="history"> <p:column headerText="StartDate"> <h:outputText value="#{history.startDate}"> <f:convertDateTime pattern="MM/dd/yyyy" /> </h:outputText> </p:column> <p:column headerText="EndDate"> <h:outputText value="#{history.endDate}"> <f:convertDateTime pattern="MM/dd/yyyy" /> </h:outputText> </p:column> <p:column headerText="JobId"> <h:outputText value="#{history.jobId}" /> </p:column> <p:column headerText="DepartmentId"> <h:outputText value="#{history.departmentIdId}" /> </p:column> </p:dataTable> </p:tab> </p:tabView> </p:panel> </h:form> </h:body> </f:view> </html> Right now, NetBeans IDE only has code completion to create the above. So there's not much help for creating such a UI right now. I don't believe that a visual designer is mandatory to create the above. A few code generators and file templates could do the job too. And I'm looking forward to seeing those kinds of tools for PrimeFaces, as well as other JSF component libraries, appearing in NetBeans IDE in upcoming releases. A related option would be for the NetBeans generated CRUD app to include the option of having a master/detail view, as well as the option of having a search feature, i.e., the application generators would provide the option of having additional features typical in Java enterprise apps. In the absence of such tools, there still is room, I believe, for NetBeans/Java EE and JDeveloper/ADF sharing a stage at a conference. The above file would have been prepared up front and the presenter would state that fact. The UI layer is only one aspect of a Java EE 6 application, so that the presenter would have ample other features to show (i.e., the entity class generation, the tools for working with servlets, with session beans, etc) prior to getting to the point where the statement would be made: "On the UI layer, I have prepared this Facelets file, which I will now show you can be connected to the lower layers of the application as follows." At that point, the session beans could be hooked into the Facelets file, the file would be saved, the browser refreshed, and then the whole application would work exactly as the ADF application does. So, Jernej, let's share a stage soon!

  • Organizing Business and Presentation entities

    - by simoneL
    Background I am developing a WPF project. This is the basic structure: User Interface (WPF Project); Interfaces (class library, contains all the interfaces and the entities used by the application; Modules (every module contains the logic of a specific argument, e.g. File Management, and can eventually contains Wpf User Controls). In the WPF Controls, to facilitate the binding operations I have created a BaseViewModel class which contains a Raise method that automates the binding mechanism (for further details, I used a technique similar to that one described in this article). The problem Understand which is the best way to separate Presentation form from the Business form in the entities classes. The case In the Interfaces project I have, for instance, the class User public class User { public virtual string Name { get; set; } // Other properties } In one of the modules I need to use the User class and to bind its properties to the User Interface controls. To do so I have to use a custom implementation of the get and set keywords. At first point, I thought to create a class in the Module called, for instance, ClientUser and override the properties that I need: public class ClientUser : User { private string name; public override string Name { get { return name; } set { Raise(out name, value); } } // Other properties } The problem is the Raise method, which is declared in the BaseViewModel class, but due to C# single inheritance constraint, I can't inherit from both classes. Which is the right way to implement this architecture?

  • What are some arguments AGAINST using EntityFramework?

    - by Rachel
    The application I am currently building has been using Stored procedures and hand-crafted class models to represent database objects. Some people have suggested using Entity Framework and I am considering switching to that since I am not that far into the project. My problem is, I feel the people arguing for EF are only telling me the good side of things, not the bad side :) My main concerns are: We want Client-Side validation using DataAnnotations, and it sounds like I have to create the client-side models anyways so I am not sure that EF would save that much coding time We would like to keep the classes as small as possible when going over the network, and I have read that using EF often includes extra data that is not needed We have a complex database layer which crosses multiple databases, and I am not sure EF can handle this. We have one Common database with things like Users, StatusCodes, Types, etc and multiple instances of our main databases for different instances of the application. SELECT queries can and will query across all instances of the databases, however users can only modify objects that are in the database they are currently working on. They can switch databases without reloading the application. Object modes are very complex and there are often quite a few joins involved Arguments for EF are: Concurrency. I wouldn't have to code in checks to see if the record was updated before each save Code Generation. EF can generate partial class models and POCOs for me, however I am not positive this would really save me that much time since I think we would still need to create the client-side models for validation and some custom parsing methods. Speed of development since we wouldn't need to create the CRUD stored procedures for every database object Our current architecture consists of a WPF Service which handles database calls via parameterized Stored Procedures, POCO objects that go to/from the WCF service and the WPF client, and the WPF client itself which transforms POCOs into class Models for the purpose of Validation and DataBinding.

  • ASP.NET ViewState Tips and Tricks #1

    - by João Angelo
    In User Controls or Custom Controls DO NOT use ViewState to store non public properties. Persisting non public properties in ViewState results in loss of functionality if the Page hosting the controls has ViewState disabled since it can no longer reset values of non public properties on page load. Example: public class ExampleControl : WebControl { private const string PublicViewStateKey = "Example_Public"; private const string NonPublicViewStateKey = "Example_NonPublic"; // DO public int Public { get { object o = this.ViewState[PublicViewStateKey]; if (o == null) return default(int); return (int)o; } set { this.ViewState[PublicViewStateKey] = value; } } // DO NOT private int NonPublic { get { object o = this.ViewState[NonPublicViewStateKey]; if (o == null) return default(int); return (int)o; } set { this.ViewState[NonPublicViewStateKey] = value; } } } // Page with ViewState disabled public partial class ExamplePage : Page { protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { base.OnLoad(e); this.Example.Public = 10; // Restore Public value this.Example.NonPublic = 20; // Compile Error! } }

  • How to do dependency Injection and conditional object creation based on type?

    - by Pradeep
    I have a service endpoint initialized using DI. It is of the following style. This end point is used across the app. public class CustomerService : ICustomerService { private IValidationService ValidationService { get; set; } private ICustomerRepository Repository { get; set; } public CustomerService(IValidationService validationService,ICustomerRepository repository) { ValidationService = validationService; Repository = repository; } public void Save(CustomerDTO customer) { if (ValidationService.Valid(customer)) Repository.Save(customer); } Now, With the changing requirements, there are going to be different types of customers (Legacy/Regular). The requirement is based on the type of the customer I have to validate and persist the customer in a different way (e.g. if Legacy customer persist to LegacyRepository). The wrong way to do this will be to break DI and do somthing like public void Save(CustomerDTO customer) { if(customer.Type == CustomerTypes.Legacy) { if (LegacyValidationService.Valid(customer)) LegacyRepository.Save(customer); } else { if (ValidationService.Valid(customer)) Repository.Save(customer); } } My options to me seems like DI all possible IValidationService and ICustomerRepository and switch based on type, which seems wrong. The other is to change the service signature to Save(IValidationService validation, ICustomerRepository repository, CustomerDTO customer) which is an invasive change. Break DI. Use the Strategy pattern approach for each type and do something like: validation= CustomerValidationServiceFactory.GetStratedgy(customer.Type); validation.Valid(customer) but now I have a static method which needs to know how to initialize different services. I am sure this is a very common problem, What is the right way to solve this without changing service signatures or breaking DI?

  • Using Telerik MVC with your own custom jQuery and or other plug-ins

    - by Steve Clements
    If you are using MVC it might be worth checking out the telerik controls (http://demos.telerik.com/aspnet-mvc), they are free if you are doing an internal or “not for profit” application. If however you do choose to use them, you could come up against a little problem I had.  Using the telerik controls with your own custom jQuery.  In my case I was using the jQuery UI dialog. It kept throwing an error where I was setting my div to a dialog. Code Snippet $("#textdialog").dialog({ The problem is when you use the telerik mvc stuff you need to call ScriptRegistrar Code Snippet @Html.Telerik().ScriptRegistrar() in order to setup the javascript for the controls. By default this adds a reference to jQuery and if you have already added a reference to jQuery because you are using it elsewhere, this causes a problem. I found the solution here And it was to change the above ScriptRegistrar call to this… Code Snippet @Html.Telerik().ScriptRegistrar().jQuery(false).DefaultGroup(g => g.Combined(true).Compress(true));   If you come across this one on stackoverflow it wont work – in my case the HtmlEditor would render no problem, but was unusable.  Which is the same as someone else found when using the tab control – they went to the bother of re-writing the ScriptRegistrar.  Not for me that one!!

  • Entity Object Extension in Oracle Application R12

    - by Manoj Madhusoodanan
    In this blog I will explain how to perform Entity Object ( EO ) Extension.As a prerequisite please read my previous blog.I am doing this exercise based on PL/SQL EO. Following attributes are part of FndUserEO. Here I will add a validation to UserName attribute "Length should be > 5". Following steps need to perform. 1) Download all files of  "Entity Object Based on PL/SQL" to JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects and JDEV_USER_HOME/myclasses.If you want to see the content of source java file decompile it and save it in JDEV_USER_HOME/myprojects. 2) Create new Entity Object XXFndUserEO as follows. Include all attributes of parent EO. 3) Add the validation code snippet to XXFndUserEOImpl.java as follows. 4) Create the substitution as follows. 5) Migrate files to $JAVA_TOP. xxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEOImpl.javaxxcustom.oracle.apps.fnd.user.schema.server.XXFndUserEO.xml 6) Migrate the substitution.. 7) Bounce the server. 8) Verify the substitution has applied properly. Access Create User Page and create a User. You can see the validation message if user name length is less than 5. Give User Name as XXCUST4 and verify the table.   The FND_USER has created successfully.

  • what's a good approach to working with multiple databases?

    - by Riz
    I'm working on a project that has its own database call it InternalDb, but also it queries two other databases, call them ExternalDb1 and ExternalDb2. Both ExternalDb1 and ExternalDb2 are actually required by a few other projects. I'm wondering what the best approach for dealing with this is? Currently, I've just created a project for each of these external databases and then generated Edmx and entities using the entity-framework approach. My thought was that I could then include these projects in any of my solutions that require access to these databases. Also, I don't have any separate business layers. I just have a solution like below: Project.Domain ExternalDb1Project.Domain ExternalDb2Project.Domain Project.Web So my Domain projects contain the data access as well as the POCOs generated by Entity Framework and any business logic. But I'm not sure if this is a good approach. For example if I want to do Validation in my Project.Domain on the entities in the InternalDb, it's fine. But if I want to do Validation for entities from either of the ExternalDbs, then I wonder where it should go? To be more specific, I retrieve Employees from ExternalDb1Project.Domain. However, I want to make sure they are Active. Where should this Validation go? How to architect a project like this at a high level? Also, I want to make sure that I use IoC for my data contexts so I can create Fakes when writing tests. I wonder where the interfaces for these various data contexts would reside?

  • C# remote web request certificate error

    - by Ben
    Hi. I am currently integrating a payment gateway into an application. Following a successful transaction the remote payment gateway posts details of the transaction back to my application (ITN). It posts to a HttpHandler that is used to read and validate the data. Part of the validation performed is a POST made by the handler to a validation service provided by the payment gateway. This effectively posts some of the original form values received back to the payment gateway to ensure they are valid. The url that I am posting back to is: "https://sandbox.payfast.co.za/eng/query/validate" and the code I am using: /// <summary> /// Posts the data back to the payment processor to validate the data received /// </summary> public static bool ValidateITNRequestData(NameValueCollection formVariables) { bool isValid = true; try { using (WebClient client = new WebClient()) { string validateUrl = (UseSandBox) ? SandboxValidateUrl : LiveValidateUrl; byte[] responseArray = client.UploadValues(validateUrl, "POST", formVariables); // get the resposne and replace the line breaks with spaces string result = Encoding.ASCII.GetString(responseArray); result = result.Replace("\r\n", " ").Replace("\r", "").Replace("\n", " "); if (result == null || !result.StartsWith("VALID")) { isValid = false; LogManager.InsertLog(LogTypeEnum.OrderError, "PayFast ITN validation failed", "The validation response was not valid."); } } } catch (Exception ex) { LogManager.InsertLog(LogTypeEnum.Unknown, "Unable to validate ITN data. Unknown exception", ex); isValid = false; } return isValid; } However, on calling WebClient.UploadValues the following exception is raised: System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship for the SSL/TLS secure channel. ---> System.Security.Authentication.AuthenticationException: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure. at System.Net.Security.SslState.StartSendAuthResetSignal(ProtocolToken message, AsyncProtocolRequest asyncRequest, Exception exception) at For the sake of brevity I haven't listed the full call stack (I can do if anyone thinks it will help). The remote certificate does appear to be valid. To get around the problem I did try adding a new RemoteCertificateValidationCallback that always returned true but just ended up getting the following exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.Check(Object demand, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean isPermSet) at System.Security.CodeAccessPermission.Demand() at System.Net.ServicePointManager.set_ServerCertificateValidationCallback(RemoteCertificateValidationCallback value) at NopSolutions.NopCommerce.Payment.Methods.PayFast.PayFastPaymentProcessor.ValidateITNRequestData(NameValueCollection formVariables) The action that failed was: Demand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.Permissions.SecurityPermission The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer So I am not sure this will work in medium trust? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Ben

  • FileUpload and UpdatePanel: ScriptManager.RegisterPostBackControl works the second time.

    - by VansFannel
    Hello. I'm developing an ASP.NET application with C# and Visual Studio 2008 SP1. I'm using WebForms. I have an ASPX page with two UpdatePanels, one on the left that holds a TreeView and other on the right where I load dynamically user controls. One user control, that I used on right panel, has a FileUpload control and a button to save that file on server. The ascx code to save control is: <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanelBotons" runat="server" RenderMode="Inline" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <ContentTemplate> <asp:Button ID="Save" runat="server" Text="Guardar" onclick="Save_Click" CssClass="button" /> </ContentTemplate> <Triggers> <asp:PostBackTrigger ControlID="Save" /> </Triggers> </asp:UpdatePanel> I make a full postback to upload the file to the server and save it to database. But I always getting False on FileUpload.HasFile. I problem is the right UpdatePanel. I need it to load dynamically the user controls. This panel has three UpdatePanels to load the three user controls that I use. Maybe I can use an Async File Uploader or delete the right Update Panel and do a full postback to load controls dynamically. Any advice? UPDATE: RegisterPostBackControl works... the second time I click on save button. First time FileUpload.HasFile is FALSE, and second time is TRUE. Second Update On first click I also check ScriptManager.IsInAsyncPostBack and is FALSE. I don't understand ANYTHING!! Why? The code to load user control first time, and on each postback is: DynamicControls.CreateDestination ud = this.LoadControl(ucUrl) as DynamicControls.CreateDestination; if (ud != null) { Button save = ud.FindControl("Save") as Button; if (save != null) ScriptManager1.RegisterPostBackControl(save); PanelDestination.Controls.Add(ud); } Thank you.

  • WPF: Binding to ObservableCollection in ControlTemplate is not updated

    - by Julian Lettner
    I created a ControlTemplate for my custom control MyControl. MyControl derives from System.Windows.Controls.Control and defines the following property public ObservableCollection<MyControl> Children{ get; protected set; }. To display the nested child controls I am using an ItemsControl (StackPanel) which is surrounded by a GroupBox. If there are no child controls, I want to hide the GroupBox. Everything works fine on application startup: The group box and child controls are shown if the Children property initially contained at least one element. In the other case it is hidden. The problem starts when the user adds a child control to an empty collection. The GroupBox's visibility is still collapsed. The same problem occurs when the last child control is removed from the collection. The GroupBox is still visible. Another symptom is that the HideEmptyEnumerationConverter converter does not get called. Adding/removing child controls to non empty collections works as expected. Whats wrong with the following binding? Obviously it works once but does not get updated, although the collection I am binding to is of type ObservableCollection. <!-- Converter for hiding empty enumerations --> <Common:HideEmptyEnumerationConverter x:Key="hideEmptyEnumerationConverter"/> <!--- ... ---> <ControlTemplate TargetType="{x:Type MyControl}"> <!-- ... other stuff that works ... --> <!-- Child components --> <GroupBox Header="Children" Visibility="{Binding RelativeSource={RelativeSource TemplatedParent}, Path=Children, Converter={StaticResource hideEmptyEnumerationConverter}}"> <ItemsControl ItemsSource="{TemplateBinding Children}"/> </GroupBox> </ControlTemplate> . [ValueConversion(typeof (IEnumerable), typeof (Visibility))] public class HideEmptyEnumerationConverter : IValueConverter { #region IValueConverter Members public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { int itemCount = ((IEnumerable) value).Cast<object>().Count(); return itemCount == 0 ? Visibility.Collapsed : Visibility.Visible; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } #endregion } Another, more general question: How do you guys debug bindings? Found this (http://bea.stollnitz.com/blog/?p=52) but still I find it very hard to do. I am glad for any help or suggestion.

  • Monitoring DOM Changes in JQuery

    - by user363866
    Is there a way to detect when the disabled attribute of an input changes in JQuery. I want to toggle the style based on the value. I can copy/paste the same enable/disable code for each change event (as I did below) but I was looking for a more generic approach. Can I create a custom event that will monitor the disabled attribute of specified inputs? Example: <style type="text/css">.disabled{ background-color:#dcdcdc; }</style> <fieldset> <legend>Option 1</legend> <input type="radio" name="Group1" id="Radio1" value="Yes" />Yes <input type="radio" name="Group1" id="Radio2" value="No" checked="checked" />No <div id="Group1Fields" style="margin-left: 20px;"> Percentage 1: <input type="text" id="Percentage1" disabled="disabled" /><br /> Percentage 2: <input type="text" id="Percentage2" disabled="disabled" /><br /> </div> </fieldset> <fieldset> <legend>Option 2</legend> <input type="radio" name="Group2" id="Radio3" value="Yes" checked="checked" />Yes <input type="radio" name="Group2" id="Radio4" value="No" />No <div id="Group2Fields" style="margin-left: 20px;"> Percentage 1: <input type="text" id="Text1" /><br /> Percentage 2: <input type="text" id="Text2" /><br /> </div> </fieldset> <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function () { //apply disabled style to all disabled controls $("input:disabled").addClass("disabled"); $("input[name='Group1']").change(function () { var disabled = ($(this).val() == "No") ? "disabled" : ""; $("#Group1Fields input").attr("disabled", disabled); //apply disabled style to all disabled controls $("input:disabled").addClass("disabled"); //remove disabled style to all enabled controls $("input:not(:disabled)").removeClass("disabled"); }); $("input[name='Group2']").change(function () { var disabled = ($(this).val() == "No") ? "disabled" : ""; $("#Group2Fields input").attr("disabled", disabled); //apply disabled style to all disabled controls $("input:disabled").addClass("disabled"); //remove disabled style to all enabled controls $("input:not(:disabled)").removeClass("disabled"); }); }); </script>

  • ASP.NET- forcing child/container events to fire before parent onload?

    - by Hans Gruber
    I'm working on a questionnaire type application in which questions are stored in a database. Therefore, I create my controls dynamically on every Page.OnLoad. This works like a charm and ViewState is persisted between postbacks because I ensure that my dynamic controls always have the same generated Control.ID. In addition to the user control that dynamically populates the questions, my questionnaire page also contains a 'Status' section (also encapsulated by a user control) which represents the status of the questionnaire (choices are 'Complete', 'Started' or 'In Progress'). If the user changes the status of questionnaire (i.e. from 'In Progress' to 'Complete'), I need to postback to the server because the contents of the dynamic portion of the questionnaire depend on the selected status. Some questions are always present regardless of status, and yet others may not be present at all for the selected status. The point is, when the status changes, I have to postback to the page and render the right set of questions. Additionally, I need to preserve any user entered values for those questions which are 'always available'. However, due to the page life cycle in ASP.NET, the 'Status' user control's OnLoad, which contains the correct status needed to load the right questions from the DB, doesn't get executed until after the 'dynamic questions' user control has already been populated (with the wrong/stale values). To get around this, I raise an event from my 'Status' user control to the main page to indicate that the Status has changed. The main page then raises an event on the 'dynamic questions' user control. Since by the time this event bubbles up, the 'dynamic questions' user control has already loaded the 'wrong' questions from the DB, it first calls Controls.Clear. It then happily uses the new status to query the database for the 'correct' questions and does a Control.Add() on each. FYI, Control.IDs are consistent across postbacks. This solution works...sorta. The correct set of questions for the selected status do get rendered; however ViewState is getting lost for those 'always available' questions. I'm guessing this is because the 'dynamic questions' user control calls Controls.Clear when responding to the status changed event. This must somehow kill the association between ViewState and my dynamic controls, even though the Control.ID are consistent. This seems like such a common requirement, I'm virtually certain there is a better, cleaner and less error prone approach to accomplish this. In case its not plain obvious, I haven't been able to grok the ASP.NET page life-cycle despite working with it for the last year. Any help is much appreciated!

  • RadioButton checkedchanged event firing multiple times

Following is the code: aspx: <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" BackColor="White" BorderColor="#CC9966" BorderStyle="None" EnableViewState="true" BorderWidth="1px" CellPadding="4" Font-Names="Verdana"> <FooterStyle BackColor="#FFFFCC" ForeColor="#330099" /> <Columns> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Select One"> <ItemTemplate> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Select Two"> <ItemTemplate> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="lblval" runat="server" Text="!" ForeColor="Red" Visible="false"/> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> **code behind** void GridView1_RowDataBound(object sender, GridViewRowEventArgs e) { if (e.Row.DataItem != null) { DataRowView dvRowview = (DataRowView)e.Row.DataItem; int currentRow = GridView1.Rows.Count; RadioButton rdoSelect1 = new RadioButton(); rdoSelect1.GroupName = "Select" + currentRow; rdoSelect1.ID = string.Concat("rdoSelect1", currentRow); rdoSelect1.AutoPostBack = true; rdoSelect1.CheckedChanged += new EventHandler(rdoSelect_CheckedChanged); e.Row.Cells[0].Controls.Add(rdoSelect1); RadioButton rdoSelect2 = new RadioButton(); rdoSelect2.GroupName = "Select" + currentRow; rdoSelect2.ID = string.Concat("rdoSelect2", currentRow); rdoSelect2.AutoPostBack = true; rdoSelect2.CheckedChanged += new EventHandler(rdoSelect_CheckedChanged); e.Row.Cells[1].Controls.Add(rdoSelect2); if (!IsPostBack) { e.Row.Cells[e.Row.Cells.Count - 1].Controls[1].Visible = false; if (e.Row.Cells[0] != null && Convert.ToBoolean(dvRowview["Select1"]) == true) rdoSelect1.Checked = true; else rdoSelect1.Checked = false; if (e.Row.Cells[0] != null && Convert.ToBoolean(dvRowview["Select2"]) == true) rdoSelect2.Checked = true; else rdoSelect2.Checked = false; } } } void rdoSelect_CheckedChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { RadioButton rdoSelectedOption = (RadioButton)sender; GridViewRow selRow = rdoSelectedOption.NamingContainer as GridViewRow; if (rdoSelectedOption.Checked) selRow.Cells[selRow.Cells.Count - 1].Controls[1].Visible = true; else selRow.Cells[selRow.Cells.Count - 1].Controls[1].Visible = false; } i want the checkedchanged event to fire only once for a group name and row.

  • Hierarchy inheritance

    - by reito
    I had faced the problem. In my C++ hierarchy tree I have two branches for entities of difference nature, but same behavior - same interface. I created such hierarchy trees (first in image below). And now I want to work with Item or Base classes independetly of their nature (first or second). Then I create one abstract branch for this use. My mind build (second in image below). But it not working. Working scheme seems (third in image below). It's bad logic, I think... Do anybody have some ideas about such hierarchy inheritance? How make it more logical? More simple for understanding? Image Sorry for my english - russian internet didn't help:) Update: You ask me to be more explicit, and I will be. In my project (plugins for Adobe Framemaker) I need to work with dialogs and GUI controls. In some places I working with WinAPI controls, and some other places with FDK (internal Framemaker) controls, but I want to work throw same interface. I can't use one base class and inherite others from it, because all needed controls - is a hierarchy tree (not one class). So I have one hierarchy tree for WinAPI controls, one for FDK and one abstract tree to use anyone control. For example, there is an Edit control (WinEdit and FdkEdit realization), a Button control (WinButton and FdkButton realization) and base entity - Control (WinControl and FdkControl realization). For now I can link my classes in realization trees (Win and Fdk) with inheritence between each of them (WinControl is base class for WinButton and WinEdit; FdkControl is base class for FdkButton and FdkEdit). And I can link to abstract classes (Control is base class for WinControl and FdkControl; Edit is base class for WinEdit and FdkEdit; Button is base class for WinButton and FdkButton). But I can't link my abstract tree - compiler swears. In fact I have two hierarchy trees, that I want to inherite from another one. Update: I have done this quest! :) I used the virtual inheritence and get such scheme (http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/7782/99614779.png). Abstract tree has only absolute abstract methods. All inheritence in abstract tree are virtual. Link from realization tree to abstract are virtual. On image shown only one realization tree for simplicity. Thanks for help!
