  I have a home network, and I'm trying to share a printer connected to one of the PCs. The wireless modem through which the internet comes through doesn't reach the entire house, so we have another router set up as well. The modem is 192.168.1.1 (let's call this A) and the router is set up as 192.168.1.100 (let's call this B). Subnet masks 255.255.255.0. The printer is hooked up to a PC on B. If my laptop is connected wirelessly to B, it can see the printer. However, if it's connected to A, it doesn't show up in My Network Places. • D Link DSL G624T Router will work wirelessly but not via cable

  I have a D Link router which works in providing a wireless internet connection for my main PC and secondary notebook. I have been advised that the internet connection to the main pc will be better if I wire the router directly to the PC. I have tried this and can not get a connection. I just keep getting the message network cable unplugged. I have had the ethernet adaptor checked out on the pc and the cable is good ( also checked out). Anything I can do or do I have a bad router. I have tried the cable in all 4 ports and the message is still the same.

  I set up a Web server with the following: There is the Internet Router, configured to Port Foward port 80 to my computer assigned to my PC's IP: 192.168.1.128 My PC is connected to that wireless router from wlan0 Then, my PC is also connected to my device (which is the webserver) with a crossover-cable usign eth0 having this anohter IP: 10.42.43.1 Finally, my device (the webserver) is connected with eth0 with this IP: 10.42.43.55 As you can see, I need to install a reverse-proxy to be able to resolve to my device's webserver. I installed pound (proxy server) in my PC and configured properly to make 192.168.1.128 resolve to 10.42.43.55 So, I just typing my ISP provided IP 200.x.x.x resolves to my device webserver. But there's a problem: I HAD TO STOP MY FIREWALL. I don't know how I need exactly configure the firewall in SUSE YAST2, or at least iptables. Stopping it is not an option, not for security reasons, just because there's port fowarding rule that is needed to give Internet access to my device too. I'm using openSUSE 12.1

• Can't access the Internet in VMware Workstation

  I'm using VMware 7.1.2 in Windows 7 with Ubuntu 11.04 as a guest OS. In the host OS (Windows 7), I can access the Internet without any problems but in the virtual machine I can't access the Internet. I've tried the following but with no success: Use all methods of connecting to the Internet in "Virtual Machine Settings": Bridged, NAT, Custom; none work. Used cabled and wireless connections on the PC - neither of them work. I've used Ubuntu in VMware for several months - previously the Internet was always accessible. Could the cause of this be because I upgraded to Ubuntu 11.04?

• Best way to "stream" music / video to my HDTV from my pc?

  My requirement is simple: I have a laptop and a desktop at home that I often use for various media (music, videos etc.) and I want to know what the best (quickest, most seamless, best quality etc) solution for sending this media to my HDTV (and connected sound system). An example would be I'm listening to some music from youtube on my laptop in my living room and want to quickly send it to my tv (which has a sound system) so that I don't have to listen to it through my laptop. I mainly use linux (but a windows dependent solution would be ok too if its the best option). I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Oh and a wireless solution would be best.

• How can I connect a wired PC to the internet through my Macs wifi connection?

  So I'll probably be buying a USB wifi adapater if I can't get this to work, but I'm trying. I have a wireless router at home and my Macbook Pro is connected to said wifi. My desktop doesn't have a wifi connection, but I've connected my macbook with my desktop via crossover cable. I enabled internet sharing on my macbook, but my Windows 7 desktop can't get a connection. I tried just regular file sharing and that works fine, but the internet sharing doesn't. I assume the goal is to get my PC to see my mac as the default gateway, but I've had no luck manually setting it. • Windows 7 Desktop as Bluetooth Mixer

  I would like to stream all the audio from my Droid X2 to my desktop running Windows 7 via bluetooth. When I pair the two devices I can make this work but the audio plays through the internal speakers. I am actually wanting to listen to everything through a pair of bluetooth headphones. The end result would be that I could listen to music from my phone but easily pause it to listen to audio from the desktop instead. So far I have not had any luck. I thought about connecting the line out to the line in so I could monitor the line in from my headphones. My current setup is wiring the phone to the line in and then monitoring the line in through the headphones. I'm just wanting to eliminate the wire and go wireless the whole way. Is there something in Windows that prevents it from taking an inbound audio stream and sending it out another device?

  When I log into Windows 7 I need to wait 10 seconds and then disable the Local Area Connection (ethernet adaptor) and then reenable it. I have looked through the suggested answer: Enable/disable wireless interface in a bat file but that seems irrelevant as it just toggles the current state. From what I can tell I need to include: netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" DISABLED netsh interface set interface "Local Area Connection" ENABLED but I'm unsure of the wait time or how I can have this start after Windows has successfully logged in. What's the best approach here?

  I would like to set a network connection as metered. I can't find how to do this; it seems to have changed in the upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1. I tried following the steps in the official metered connection FAQ. However, when I open the connection, there is no Data Usage heading nor a Set as a metered connection option. I tried this on two different computers, both running Windows 8.1. I also tried doing this for both wireless and ethernet adaptors. Here's what the connection screen looks like.   I have Ubuntu 10.4 dual booted with Windows Vista on a work Lenovo R61 laptop. The home and work wireless connection were working fine. I lost all internet connection at work. The IT guy clearly knew nothing about Linux. Since he 'fixed' it get nothing, no wlan signal the Network manager icon was gone, no internet. I still have the live disc and if I run from the live disc the connections are there and everything works perfectly. How do I restore the internet easily on my laptop. I have been using Linux for 3 Years but I am still a bit of a newbie, this is the first major problem I've had in three years. It's driving me nuts. Thanks

• Remote HTTP to FTP

  I am on a very slow download with the internet that I have and unfortunately I only have access to expensive and slow wireless or satelite. I have set up an FTP with a computer supplier locally who has a nice 2 Mbps speed and am trying to set up a way of adding links remotely (Hotfile, rapidshare, Fileserve, etc.) so that they can be downloaded onto the FTP and then transfered a few times a week manually onto a portable HDD. On my home PC I use Internet download manager for all my downloads. Is there a simple way that I can add links remotely to Internet Download Manager on the FTP or perhaps another solution? The OS on the FTP is Linux - I use Windows XP SP3 and Windows 7. I have not used FTP very much before so any suggestions on how best to do this would be much appreciated.

• Can I use static routing to allow me to use my public IP from my LAN?

  I would like to be able to use the same hostname to connect to my computer from my phone whether I'm at home or away. Currently I have to maintain duplicate entries for remote desktop, for instance. My router doesn't seem to have a NAT loopback option. I have two routers in fact, a cable modem which goes straight to my main router which does wireless. I can add to the static routing tables on each. Can I use this to loopback the public IP or do I need different routers?

• Computer connects to lan, but not the internet

  I have a computer with Vista Home that can connect to the router, but it cannot get on the internet. I cannot ping google.com, the request times out. I've tried this on two separate networks and have no trouble with other computers connecting. I've renewed ipconfig, reset winsock, updated the wireless adapter, and the hosts file looks fine. I've tried disabling the firewall as well as a direct wired connection. I did a scan with Norton and it didn't find anything. Is there anything else I can try before resorting to a system restore? Update (Copied from Answer) Windows Update was able to find updates and install them (though, they could have already been downloaded previously). When I pinged Google by using their IP 66.102.9.103, it said it lost 25 percent of the packets. I successfully flushed the DNS but it didn't help. Also, I found safe mode with networking works fine.

• Sharing files between multiple computers?

  At my school, we have 13 iMacs that we use to make our yearbook. Currently our school has some servers for us, but since we work with so many files ( thousands of pictures, most of which are ~3MB ) it slows down far too much. Is there a way to better share files between our computers? We are on a wireless network and the whole school shares the same servers, we have around probably 400 computers in the school. Is there a hardware fix I can do? Something like buying an external and hooking only yearbook computers to it?

• Run a service after networking is ready on Ubuntu?

  I'm trying to start a service that depends on networking being started, whenever the computer is rebooted. I have a few questions: Is this easily possible from an /etc/init.d script? I have tried creating a script here (conforming to the standards), but I'm really doubtful that it's even running on boot, let alone working. When I test it manually, it works. I've seen the new Upstart service, but as far as how that actually works, I'm completely in the dark. How can I make a script that runs on boot which runs after networking has been started? If I could run it after connected to wireless network, even better :)

• Ubuntu Wired network(ethernet does not work)

  It was working just fine, until the other day I yanked it out. The wireless works just fine on the same router. If I login to a windows 7 instance on this dual boot laptop then the ehternet works just fine. So it's not a hardware, cable or router issue. The card even gets an ip, but I can't connect to the internet. Here are the details from route, iptables, ifconfig, ping etc. Any ideas?   I am using VMware Workstation version 7 on Ubuntu 10.10. I installed Windows XP service pack 3 for guest os. Within VMWare, I am using bridge connection that I assigned static IP address to be able to ping host IP address but I cannot ping default router gateway. I also tried to command "/etc/init.d/vmware start" on terminal. All tasks are able to start successfully except "VM communication interface socket family" I am not sure that how to setup network for my VMWare by using wireless. Thanks in advance.

• Kernel Compiling from Vanilla to several machines

  When compiling kernels for machines is there a safe or correct way to create a template for say servers? I work with a lot of RHEL servers and want to compile them with GRSEC. However, I do not wish to always rebuild off of the .config for each machine and go in and remove a bunch of unrelated modules like wireless, bluetooth, ect... which you typically do not need in servers. I want to create a template .config that can be used on any machine, but is there a safe way to do that when hardware changes? I know with Linux, at least from my experience, you can cross jump hardware way easier then Windows/OSX. I assume that as long as I leave MOST of all the main hardware modules/CPU in that this could create a .config that would work for all or just about any machine?

• Not getting my normal internet speed but my other computers can?

  I have Comcast Xfinity and I cannot reach anywhere near my promised speed. My family desktop which is hardwired into the router reaches to 60Mbps and so do my parents computers and my brothers. I cannot seem to get anywhere close to it, I know with being wireless I won't reach it, but I should at least get somewhere close. I can only pull 6Mbps and thats terrible for what I should be receiving. Any clue what could be wrong here? Edit: I have 100% signal and I'm not behind any walls
