  • Essbase 11.1.2 - AgtSvrConnections Essbase Configuration Setting

    AgtSvrConnections is a documented Essbase configuration setting used in conjunction with the AgentThreads and ServerThreads settings. Basically, when a user logs into Essbase, the AgentThreads connects to the ESSBASE process then the AgtSvrConnections will connect the ESSBASE process to the ESSSVR application process which then the ServerThreads are used for end user activities. In Essbase 11.1.2, the default value of the AgtSvrConnections setting was changed to 5. In previous Essbase releases, the AgtSvrConnections setting default value is 1. It is recommended that tuning the AgtSvrConnections settings be done incrementally by 1 or 2 maximum and based on the number of concurrent Set Active/Clear Active calls. In the Essbase DBA Guide and Technical Reference, the maximum setting recommended is to not exceed what is set for AgentThreads, however, we have found that most customers do not need to exceed a setting of 10. In general, it is ok to set AgtSvrConnections close to the AgentThreads setting, however, there have been customers that needed an AgentThread setting greater than 10 and we have found that the AgtSvrConnections setting higher than 5-10 could have a negative impact on Essbase due to too many TCP ports used unnecessarily. As with all Essbase.cfg settings, it is best to set values to what is needed based on process load and not arbitrarily set to high values. In order to monitor and tune the AgtSvrConnections setting, monitor the application log for logins and Set Active/Clear Active messages. If there are a lot of logins and Set Active/Clear Active messages happening in a short period of time making it appear that the login is taking longer, incrementally increase the AgtSvrConnections setting by 1 or 2, which can then help with login speed. The login performance tolerance is different from one customer environment to another since there are other factors that can impact this performance i.e. network latency. What is happening in Essbase when a user logs in: ESSBASE issues a Set Active to the ESSSVR process. Each application has its own ESSSVR process. Set Active then calls MultipleAsyncLogout and waits on the pipe connection. MultipleAsyncLogout goes back to ESSBASE. ESSBASE then needs to send the logout back to the ESSSVR process. When the AgtSvrConnections setting needs to be increased from the default of 5, it is because Essbase cannot find a connection since the previous connections are used by ESSBASE-ESSSVR. In this example, we may want to increase AgtSvrConnections from 5 to 7 to improve the login performance. Again, it is best to set Essbase settings to what is needed based on process load and not arbitrarily set to high values. In general, stress or performance testing environments using automated tools may need higher than normal settings. This is because automated processes run at high speeds for logging in and logging out. Typically, in a real life production environment, the settings are much closer to default values.

  • PyQt4: Scrollbar doesn't show in scrollarea when resizing dockWidget

    Im trying to locally install a program which is written in C++. I have downloaded the program and am attempting to use the "make" command to compile the program as the programs instructions dictate. However when I do I get this error: /usr/include/stdc-predef.h:30:26: fatal error: bits/predefs.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. Looking around on the internet some people seem to address this problem by sudo apt-get install libc6-dev-i386 I checked to see if this package was installed and it was not. When I try to install it I get E: Unable to locate package libc6-dev-i386 I have already run sudo apt get update Im sure this is a rookie question but any help is appreciated, I'm running 13.10 32-bit.

    Usually Linux programs store user's settings in ~/.* directories. But unfortunately some developers (of some applications I need) do not follow this rule and don't start their settings storage folders names with a dot. This results in never-user-used folders cluttering (not the right word perhaps, as there are not many, but they annoy anyway) a home directory. Renaming them is not an option, as the applications won't find them in this case (and will create them again). Is there a way to hide a folder having no dot starting its name from being displayed in common file system browsers (I actually use Thunar of XFCE, alongside with Midnight Commander and Krusader, but wouldn't mind to know about Nautilus too).

    I face problem in login to Ubuntu 12.04. I think it's caused by accessing super user (if not wrong). I type sudo nautilus to put a background to burg, but i fail x_x. After reboot, i can't login to desktop. But i can login as guest. I had 'googling' for problem solving. Most of it is login to screen like terminal (maybe tty console) by pressing ctrl+alt+F1.     I have an internal website and virtual directory http://server2012/logs. I created a CNAME on my DNS server as LOGS - server2012. I would like to set it up so that http://LOGS redirects to http://server2012/logs. Ideally, I would still want it so that all pages appear in the browser as being off from the LOGS URL. So http://LOGS/network.html?site=32 is what is displayed in the browser, but it is really being served from http://server2012/logs/network.html?site=32. I've looked at URL rewrite, but can't seem to get to work.

    I'm on Ubuntu 12.04 and am using Terminator as my primary terminal. I like it because it lets me keep a python interpreter and bash terminal open at the same time, in the same view. What is annoying is that I end up moving between directories A LOT, and then I have to do it twice. Is there a way to set up a terminator configuration to do that? To have terminator mirror directory changes. I'm guessing I'm not the only one that finds that frustrating!

  • How many files in a directory is too many?

    Does it matter how many files I keep in a single directory? If so, how many files in a directory is too many, and what are the impacts of having too many files? (This is on a Linux server.) Background: I have a photo album website, and every image uploaded is renamed to an 8-hex-digit id (say, a58f375c.jpg). This is to avoid filename conflicts (if lots of "IMG0001.JPG" files are uploaded, for example). The original filename and any useful metadata is stored in a database. Right now, I have somewhere around 1500 files in the images directory. This makes listing the files in the directory (through FTP or SSH client) take a few seconds. But I can't see that it has any affect other than that. In particular, there doesn't seem to be any impact on how quickly an image file is served to the user. I've thought about reducing the number of images by making 16 subdirectories: 0-9 and a-f. Then I'd move the images into the subdirectories based on what the first hex digit of the filename was. But I'm not sure that there's any reason to do so except for the occasional listing of the directory through FTP/SSH.

    So, I have a directory, and in it are several files. I'm trying to decrypt those files and then move them to another directory. I can't seem to figure out how to set the output filename and move it. So, the directory structure looks like this: /Applications/MAMP/bin/decryptandmove.sh /Applications/MAMP/bin/passtext.txt /Applications/MAMP/bin/encrypted/test1.txt.pgp /Applications/MAMP/bin/encrypted/test2.txt.pgp /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/www/decrypted/ For all of the files found in the encrypted directory, I'm trying to decrypt it and then move them into www/decrypted/. I don't know what the filenames in the encrypted directory will be ahead of time (this script will eventually run via cron), so I wanted to just output the decrypted file with the same filename, but without the pgp. So, the result would be: /Applications/MAMP/bin/decryptandmove.sh /Applications/MAMP/bin/passtext.txt /Applications/MAMP/bin/encrypted/ /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/decrypted/test1.txt.pgp /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/decrypted/test2.txt.pgp So, this is all I have so far, and it doesn't work... FILE and FILENAME are both wrong... I haven't even gotten to the moving part of it yet.... Help? I've written exactly one shell script ever, and it was so simple, a monkey could have done it...     I've been messing around with T4 support in Mono and noticed a very cumbersome thing. The current directory when running T4 templates is the home directory. I need to be able to read a few files from the current project's directory but I'm at a loss for how to. <#@ template language="C#v3.5" #> <#@ output extension="txt" #> <#=System.IO.Directory.GetCurrentDirectory() #> yields /home/earlz where I want it to yield something like /home/earlz/MyProject How do I overcome this problem? Also, I tried the hostspecific and Host.ResolvePath, but I got a NotImplementedException

  • How to make new file permission inherit from the parent directory?

    I have a directory called data. Then I am running a script under the user id 'robot'. robot writes to the data directory and update files inside. The idea is data is open for both me and robot to update. So I setup the permission and owner group like this drwxrwxr-x 2 me robot-grp 4096 Jun 11 20:50 data where both me and robot belongs to the 'robot-grp'. I change the permission and the owner group recursively like the parent directory. I regularly upload new files into the data directory using rsync. Unfortunately, new files uploaded does not inherit the parent directory's permission as I hope. Instead it looks like this -rw-r--r-- 1 me users 6 Jun 11 20:50 new-file.txt When robot tries to update new-file.txt, it fails due to lack of file permission. I'm not sure if setting umask helps. In anycase the new files does not really follow it. $ umask -S u=rwx,g=rx,o=rx I'm often confounded by Unix file permission. Do I even have a right plan? I'm using Debian lenny.

  • Is there a bash shortcut for traversing similar directory structures?

    The Korn shell used to have a very useful option to cd for traversing similar directory structures e.g. given the following directorys /home/sweet/dev/projects/trunk/projecta/app/models /home/andy/dev/projects/trunk/projecta/app/models Then if you were in the /home/sweet.... directory then you could change to the equivalent directory in andy's structure by typing cd sweet andy So if ksh saw 2 arguments then it would scan the current directory path for the first value, replace it with the second and cd there. Is anyone aware of similar functionality in bash. EDIT 1 Following on from Michal's excellent answer I have now created the following bash function called scd (For Sideways cd) function scd { cd "${PWD/$1/$2}" } EDIT 2 Thanks to @digitalross I can now reproduce the ksh functionality exactly with the code from below (With the addition of a pwd to tell you where you have changed to) cd () { if [ "x$2" != x ]; then builtin cd ${PWD/$1/$2} pwd else builtin cd "$@" fi }

    How can I launch a new Git Bash window with a specified working directory using a script (either bash or Windows batch)? My goal is to launch multiple Git Bash windows from a single script, each Bash terminal set to a different working directory. This way I can quickly get to work after booting computer instead of having to open Git Bash windows and navigating each one to the correct working directory.
