• ASP.NET forgets dlls in bin directory

  We have a plugin system on a WCF service that checks libraries placed in the bin folder for certain assembly level attributes and loads them. This allows customization of certain service calls based on which client is making the call. This works great most of the time. However, sometimes it seems to lose the dll, which causes the service to revert back to the default implementation for every client. The solution so far has been to just move the dll file out of the bin folder, and back in. This causes asp.net to pick up the file and customizations start working again. I'm at a loss for why the assembly is getting missed like that after a certain amount of time. Any ideas as to what might be causing this?

• Java app makes screen display unresponsive after 10 minutes of user idle time

  I've written a Java app that allows users to script mouse/keyboard input (JMacro, link not important, only for the curious). I personally use the application to automate character actions in an online game overnight while I sleep. Unfortunately, I keep coming back to the computer in the morning to find it unresponsive. Upon further testing, I'm finding that my application causes the computer to become unresponsive after about 10 minutes of user idle time (even if the application itself it simulating user activity). I can't seem to pin-point the issue, so I'm hoping somebody else might have a suggestion of where to look or what might be causing the issue. The relevant symptoms and characteristics: Unresponsiveness occurs after user is idle for 10 minutes User can still move the mouse pointer around the screen Everything but the mouse appears frozen... mouse clicks have no effect and no applications update their displays, including the Windows 7 desktop I left the task manager up along the with the app overnight so I could see the last task manager image before the screen freezes... the Java app is at normal CPU/Memory usage and total CPU usage is only ~1% After moving the mouse (in other words, the user comes back from being idle), the screen image starts updating again within 30 minutes (this is very hit and miss... sometimes 10 minutes, sometimes no results after two hours) User can CTRL-ALT-DEL to get to Windows 7's CTRL-ALT-DEL screen (after a 30 second pause). User is still able to move mouse pointer, but clicking any of the button options causes the screen to appear to freeze again On some very rare occasions, the system never freezes, and I come back to it in the morning with full responsiveness The Java app automatically stops input scripting in the middle of the night, so Windows 7 detects "real" idleness and turns the monitors into Standby mode... which they successfully come out of upon manually moving the mouse in the morning when I wake up, even though the desktop display still appears frozen Given the symptoms and characteristics of the issue, it's as if the Java app is causing the desktop display of the logged in user to stop updating, including any running applications. Programming concepts and Java packages used: Multi-threading Standard out and err are rerouted to a javax.swing.JTextArea The application uses a Swing GUI awt.Robot (very heavily used) awt.PointerInfo awt.MouseInfo System Specs: Windows 7 Professional Java 1.6.0 u17 In conclusion, I should stress that I'm not looking for any specific solutions, as I'm not asking a very specific question. I'm just wondering if anybody has run into a similar problem when using the Java libraries that I'm using. I would also gladly appreciate any suggestions for things to try to attempt to further pinpoint what is causing my problem. Thanks! • PHP: best practice. Do i save html tags in DB or store the html entity value?

  Hi Guys, I was wondering about which way i should do the following. I am using the tiny MCE wysiwyg editor which formats the users data with the right html tags. Now, i need to save this data entered into the editor into a database table. Should i encode the html tags to their corresponding entities when inserting into the DB, then when i get the data back from the table, not have the encode it for XSS purposes but i'd still have to use eval for the html tags to format the text. OR Do i save the html tags into the database, then when i get the data back from the database encode the html tags to their entities, but then as the tags will appear to the user, i'd have to use the eval function to actually format the data as it was entered. My thoughts are with the first option, i just wondered on what you guys thought. Thanks M

• Blogger Template not saving after Facebook like changes

  I've add the facebook Like button to http://www.goldfishview.com/ and that works great. Its powered by Blogger. Now I want to move it to the end of my posts instead of a the beginning. I move the facebook iframe and the preview looks great, but once I save the template it reverts back to were it was. I've tried in Chrome and Firefox. In Chrome after I click preview the save template button becomes useless and doesn't do anything when I click on it. In Firefox everything looks like it takes, but on page refresh the iFrame goes back to its original position. Am I crazy?

• File IO, Handling CRLF

  Hi, i am writing a program that takes a file and splits it up into multiple small files of a user specified size, then join the multiple small files back again. 1) the code must work for c, c++ 2) i am compiling with multiple compilers. I am reading and writing to the files by using the stl functions fread() and fwrite() The problem I am having pertains to CRLF. If the file I am reading from contains CRLF, then I want to retain it when i split and join the files back together. If the file contains LF, then i want to retain LF. Unfortunately, fread() seems to store CRLF as \n (I think), and whatever is written by fwrite() is compiler-dependent. How do i approach this problem? Thanks.

• [C#] How to consume web service adheres to the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern?

  I am following the example from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/8wy069k1.aspx to consume a web service implemented (by 3rd party) using the Event-based Asynchronous Pattern. However, my program needs to do multiple calls to the DoStuffAsync() hence will get back as many DoStuffCompleted. I chose the overload which takes an extra parameter - Object userState to distinguish them. My first question is: Is it valid to cast a GUID to Object as below, where GUID is used to generate unique taskID? Object userState = Guid.NewGuid(); Secondly, do I need to spawn off a new thread for each DoStuffAsync() call, since I am calling it multiple times? Also, would be nice to have some online examples or tutorials on this subject. (I've been googling for it the whole day and didn't get much back) Many thanks

• I need data structure for effective handling with dates

  What I need is something like Hashtable which I will fill with prices that were actual at desired days. For example: I will put two prices: January 1st: 100USD, March 5th: 89USD. If I search my hashtable for price: hashtable.get(February 14th) I need it to give me back actual price which was entered at Jan. 1st because this is the last actual price. Normal hashtable implementation won't give me back anything, since there is nothing put on that dat. I need to see if there is such implementation which can find quickly object based on range of dates.

• In C#, is there any way to try multiple Regexes on string to see which one matches first?

  Let's say I have an arbitrary list of regexes (IList<Regex> lst; for example). Is there any way to find out which one matches first? Of course there is the straightforward solution of trying each one on the string and seeing which match has the lowest index, but this could be inefficient on long strings. Of course I can go back and pull the strings back out of each regex (Regex.ToString()) and concatenate them all together ("(regex1)|(regex2)|(regex3)"), but I find this to be an ugly solution, especially since it does not even indicate which regex was matched.

At times due to un-notified changes in JSON structure by back-end team; it breaks the front-end code. Is there any external library that we could use to compare a mock JSON (fixture) with servers JSON response. Basically it should assert the whole JSON object and should throw an error if there is any violation in servers JSON format. Additional info: App is built on JQuery consuming REST JSON services.

  I'm looking for a primary source (or a really good explanation) to back up the claim that the use of autorelease is dangerous or overly expensive when writing software for the iPhone. Several developers make this claim, and I have even heard that Apple does not recommend it, but I have not been able to turn up any concrete sources to back it up. SO references: autorelease-iphone Why does this create a memory leak (iPhone)? Note: I can see, from a conceptual point of view, that autorelease is slightly more expensive than a simple call to release, but I don't think that small penalty is enough to make Apple recommend against it. What's the real story?

  I have a HTC Dream firmware version 1.6 build DRD20. I am unable to install voice data in Menu == Settings == Speech Synthesis == Install voice data. The option just brings me back to previous screen of settings. I also tried installing Speech Synthesis Data Installer and many other applications for text to speech. But none works and give back Sorry! Force close error. Is there any way by which I can install voice data ? Or any way I can use text to speech ? Can anyone also tell what is latest offical firmware available for this mobile ?

  Hi! Many times we experienced after Windows 98 era that some dialogs are lost their Z-Order, and moved back to prior form. For example: Dialog1.ShowModal; Dialog1.OnClickButton() : ShowMessage('anything'); When MessageBox appears, sometimes not got focus, it is moved under Dialog1. The users confused on it, because they are say: application freezed!!! But if they are uses AltTab to move another app and back, the focus return to the MessageBox, and it will be the foreground Window. We experienced this with ShowMessage, MessageBox, normal forms, QuickReport forms also. Is anyone knows about this? Is it Windows bug? How to prevent it? How to catch this? Thanks for your help: dd

• How to stop an Android Service ONLY when there are no other activities in my app running?

  Is there a way I can test if there are any other activities in my app still alive? I am looking to stop a service in an onDestroy method, but only want to do this if there are no other activities from my app still alive on the stack. I have the call stop the service in the main activity's onDestroy() method. This works perfect EXCEPT that if a user launches my app, then launches a few activities in my app, then hits the home screen and RELAUNCHES my app, they will subvert my order and the main activity will now be above other activities of my app. From this state, if they hit the back button and 'back out' of my home screen they will trigger the onDestroy() method and kill the service even though there are other activities open on the stack. I want to avoid this by stopping the service ONLY if I am sure there are no other activities of mine open on the stack. Possible?

• Keeping track of changes I make by copying project folders.

  Hello, I'm a beginner so if there is a terminology for what I'm doing I don't know how to search for it. So forgive me if this has been asked before. So here is what I do. Before I make any major code changes, I make a copy of the projects folder and call it "project v6" for example. Then if I really mess things up and cant find a way to undo it, i just go back to the previous folder. This has been working well enough for me but sometimes I forget to do this have have to take 2 steps back. Is there an easier way to do this than the way I am now? Thanks

• Why the macros in Objective-C / Cocoa?

  I'm coming from a place without macros (Java/Python/C#/Scala) so perhaps my perspective is distorted but... Why are macros used in Cocoa? Two that spring to mind are NSLocalizedString and NSAssert (and STAssert). Would it be so hard / unsuitable to make them functions (which could be inlined)? I suppose I find them a little bizarre as an unnecessary throw-back to C (and yes, I am familiar with the pedigree of Obj-C). Is it just something that was done back in the day or is there a specific reason?

• Carrierwave upload to a tmp dir before saving to database

  I'm trying to build a visual editor where users can click an image they are presented with an image upload form once the upload is done I use ajax to return the image and insert it back into the page. But the above method inserts the image straight into the database but I want users to be able to visualize the image before the image is inserted into the database. So I was wondering if the image using carrierwave could be uploaded to a temp location, sent back to the user and then when the user saves the page the image is moved into the permanent location. Here's what I have so far. def edit_image @page = Page.find(1) @page.update_attributes(params[:page]) @page.save return :text => @page.file end But this is what I want to achieve def temp_image #uploads received image to a temp location #returns image to the user end And once the user clicks save def save #moves the file in the temp folder to the permanent location end Cheers

  As per the documentation link given below: When a lock wait timeout occurs, the current statement is not executed. The current transaction is not rolled back. (Until MySQL 5.0.13 InnoDB rolled back the entire transaction if a lock wait timeout happened. You can restore this behavior by starting the server with the --innodb_rollback_on_timeout option, available as of MySQL 5.0.32. http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/innodb-parameters.html#sysvar_innodb_lock_wait_timeout Does it mean that when a lock wait timeout occurs, it compromises the transactional integrity? "roollback on timeout" was the default behaviour till 5.0.13 and I guess that was the correct way to handle such situations. Does anyone think that this should be the default behaviour and the user should not be asked to add a parameter for a functionality that is taken for granted?

• IconDownloader, problem with lazy downloading

  My problem is simple to be described but it seems to be hard to solve. The problem is loading icons, with a custom class like IconDownloader.m provided by an official example from Apple, avoiding crashes if I release the view. I've added the IconDownloader class to my app, but it's clear that this approach is good only if the tableview is the root. The big problem is when the view is not the root one. F.e: if I start to scroll my second view (the app now load the icons) and, without leaving it the time to finish the download, I go back to root, the app crash because the view that have to be updated with new icons doesn't exist anymore. One possible solution could be implement an OperationQueue in the view, but with this approach I've to stop the queue when I change the view and restart it when I come back and the idea to have N queues don't make me enthusiastic. Anyone found a good solution for this problem?

But, when the slider reaches the last image, it will go back to the first image by making all previous images sliding back from left to right.   I am being asked to alter a system to include the ability to have pay differentials based on hours worked. The old method included a stored procedure (MSSQL2000 db) that did the basics, but simply knows the start and end of every shift. So, this is the information I start with: EMPLOYEE | TYPE | HOURS | INSTAMP | OUTSTAMP Dave | Hourly | 8.643055 | 2011-01-08 07:57:35.557 | 2011-01-08 16:36:10.120 And I need to turn that into something like: EMPLOYEE | TYPE | HOURS | INSTAMP | OUTSTAMP Dave | Hourly | 4.00 | 2011-01-08 08:00:00.000 | 2011-01-08 12:00:00.000 Dave | ShiftDiff1 | 4.50 | 2011-01-08 12:00:00.000 | 2011-01-08 16:30:00.000 The ShiftDiff's range from hours to certain days, to a combo of both. Should I try to make the SQL2000 SP do this or pass the info back to my ASP.NET(C#) app and let it handle it, then send back?

  Hello all, I'm trying to use youtube's api to bring back a listing of a user's videos. The request url looks something like: http://gdata.youtube.com/feeds/api/users/username/uploads with 'username' being the correct username. This bring back the appropriate url in the browser. • Can I interpolate two HEX color values without converting them to RGB?

  I'm trying to make a Gradient Class for a Blackberry app. At first I thought about converting the HEX values to RGB and then interpolating them before converting the result back into HEX, but since I will be doing this for every pixel line of an area, and the calculations will be made by a mobile, I thought that maybe there's a more efficient way of doing it. Maybe involving those pesky bitwise operators which I know nothing of... or something. So, is there a way of interpolating without converting to RGB and back? If so, is it faster than the original way? In any case, can you help me make the most efficient color interpolation? Thank you in advance!

• Passing Auth to API calls with Web Service References

  I am new to web services. The last time I dealt with SOAP was when I created a bunch of wrapper classes that sent requests and received responses back per some response objects/classes I had created. So I had an object to send certain API requests and likewise a set of objects to hold the response back as an object so I could utilize that 3rd party API. Then someone came to me and said why not just use the wsdl and a web service. Ok, so today I went and created a "Service Reference". I see that this is what's called a "Proxy Class". You just instantiate an instance of this and then walla you have access to all the methods from the wsdl. But this leaves me with auth questions. Back when I created my own classes manually, I had a class which exposed properties that I would set then access for things like signature, username, password that got sent along with the Http request that were required by whatever 3rd party API I was using to make API calls. But then with using a Service Reference, how then would I pass this information just like I had done in my custom classes? For instance I'm going to be working with the PayPal API. It requires you to send a signature and a few other pieces of information like username and password. // Determins if API call needs to use a session based URI string requestURI = UseAuthURI == true ? _requestURIAuthBased + aSessionID : _requestURI; byte[] data = XmlUtil.DocumentToBytes(doc); // Create the atual Request instance HttpWebRequest request = CreateWebRequest(requestURI, data.Length); So how do I pass username, password, signature, etc. when using web service references for each method call? Is it as simple as specifying it as a param to the method or do you use the .Credentials and .URL methods of your proxy class object? It seems to me Credentials means windows credentials but I could be wrong. Is it limited to that or can you use that to specify those required header values that PayPal expects with each method call/API request?

I have a document like this: var document = new Lucene.Document(); document.AddField("Text", "foobar"); document.AddField("CreationDate", DateTime.Now.Ticks.ToString()); // store the date as an int lucene.AddDocument(document); Now I want do a search and get my results back in order of most recent. How can I do a search that orders results by CreationDate? All the documentation I see is for old Lucene versions that use now-deprecated APIs.
