  • Traditional loop versus Action delegate in C#

    - by emddudley
    After learning about the Action delegate in C# I've been looking for ways I can best use it in my code. I came up with this pattern: Action<string> DoSomething = (lSomething) => { // Do something }; DoSomething("somebody"); DoSomething("someone"); DoSomething("somewhere"); If I were to have used a traditional loop, it would look something like this: List<string> lSomeList = new List<string>(); lSomeList.Add("somebody"); lSomeList.Add("someone"); lSomeList.Add("somewhere"); foreach (string lSomething in lSomeList) { // Do something } Are there any appreciable differences between the two? To me they look equally easy to understand and maintain, but are there some other criteria I might use to distinguish when one might be preferred over the other?

  • Extract item in a list if Contains returns true

    - by Matt
    I have two lists A and B, at the beginning of my program, they are both filled with information from a database (List A = List B). My program runs, List A is used and modified, List B is left alone. After a while I reload List B with new information from the database, and then do a check with that against List A. foreach (CPlayer player in ListA) if (ListB.Contains(player)) ----- Firstly, the object player is created from a class, its main identifier is player.Name. If the Name is the same, but the other variables are different, would the .Contains still return true? Class CPlayer( public CPlayer (string name) _Name = name At the ---- I need to use the item from ListB that causes the .Contains to return true, how do I do that?

  • JQuery text display problem?

    - by SLAPme
    Kind of new to JQuery and I was wondering how can I state that the users submitted info was saved when they click the submit button by displaying the message Changes saved at the top of the form and then have it disappear when the user leaves the web page and return back to it? Right now my code only displays that changes were saved at the bottom of the form outside of the lists and will not disappear when the users leave the web page and return back to it. Here is the JQuery code. $(function() { $(".save-button").click(function() { $.post($("#contact-form").attr("action"), $("#contact-form").serialize(), function(html) { $("div.contact-info-form").html(html); $('#contact-form').append('<li>Changes saved!</li>'); }); return false; // prevent normal submit }); }); Here is the html code. <div id="contact-info-form" class="form-content"> <h2>Contact Information</h2> <form method="post" action="index.php" id="contact-form"> <fieldset> <ul> <li><label for="address">Address 1: </label><input type="text" name="address" id="address" size="25" class="input-size" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['address'])) { echo $_POST['address']; } else if(!empty($address)) { echo $address; } ?>" /></li> <li><label for="address_two">Address 2: </label><input type="text" name="address_two" id="address_two" size="25" class="input-size" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['address_two'])) { echo $_POST['address_two']; } else if(!empty($address_two)) { echo $address_two; } ?>" /></li> <li><label for="city_town">City/Town: </label><input type="text" name="city_town" id="city_town" size="25" class="input-size" value="<?php if (isset($_POST['city_town'])) { echo $_POST['city_town']; } else if(!empty($city_town)) { echo $city_town; } ?>" /></li> <li><label for="state_province">State/Province: </label> <?php echo '<select name="state_province" id="state_province">' .   • MD5 file processing

    - by Ric Coles
    Good morning all, I'm working on an MD5 file integrity check tool in C#. How long should it take for a file to be given an MD5 checksum value? For example, if I try to get a 2gb .mpg file, it is taking around 5 mins+ each time. This seems overly long. Am I just being impatient? Below is the code I'm running public string getHash(String @fileLocation) { FileStream fs = new FileStream(@fileLocation, FileMode.Open); HashAlgorithm alg = new HMACMD5(); byte[] hashValue = alg.ComputeHash(fs); string md5Result = ""; foreach (byte x in hashValue) { md5Result += x; } fs.Close(); return md5Result; } Any suggestions will be appreciated. Regards

  • Control within ascx is null when ascx is added from codebehind

    - by Snoop Dogg
    I am having difficulties how to construct my question, but if I have to put it simply the situation is that I have categories of products. I have an aspx with a repeater on the left that lists the categories. And I want the products to be listed on the right. Category number is variable so I made an ascx with a DataList in it. When I try to do foreach category, ascx = new ascx(); then the DataList within this ascx control is null. ps: what I want to do is to preload all the products (thre is not much) and hide the divs and fadein fadeout them using jQuery when a category div is clicked. rightnow it is using jQuery.load(); and I don't like how the images load, cuz they download from top to bottom. Progressive gifs alsdo not an option. site demo is here http://techlipse.net/test/ledart Thanks a lot in advance...

  • Is there a way to add name/value functionality to jquery autocomplete for .net?

    - by Mark Kadlec
    I've recently added the JQuery autocomplete plug in and have a textbox that autocompletes a list of employees. It works great and I commend the authors of the plugin. I think the textbox would be MUCH more useful though, when upon selecting, we can extract the StaffID (Ie. retreive the value of the selection). My code is below and you can see that I am simply adding the staff names, would be nice to associate IDs. Does anyone know of any way to do this? My JQuery: $(document).ready(function() { $("#txtStaff").autocomplete('autocompletetagdata.aspx'); }); My ASPX page: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { StaffViewListClass staffList = StaffViewListClass.GetStaff(); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); foreach (StaffViewClass staff in staffList) { sb.Append(staff.FullName).Append("\n"); } Response.Write(sb.ToString()); }

  • Facebook canvas app ASP.NET MVC HttpException: Invalid Model

    - by zznq
    I am working on a Facebook tab application. I am using asp.net MVC 2 with the "official" Microsoft Facebook SDK. Most of my views are working just fine. However, I have one that is causing a huge mess. I am simply returning a List<Tags> to the view and as my ViewModel. This problematic view is simply displaying the list in a foreach loop. Whenever navigate to this view I get a "System.Web.HttpException: Invalid Model" exception. The most puzzling part of all this is that the same code is running without fail on our regular(non-Facebook) app that works just fine with the same code. Any insight into why Facebook and asp.net MVC 2 would be causing this behavior would be much appreciated.

  • Is Annotation in Javascript? If not, how to switch between debug/productive modes in declarative way

    - by Michael Mao
    Hi all: This is but a curious question. I cannot find any useful links from Google so it might be better to ask the gurus here. The point is: is there a way to make "annotation" in javascript source code so that all code snippets for testing purpose can be 'filtered out' when project is deployed from test field into the real environment? I know in Java, C# or some other languages, you can assign an annotation just above the function name, such as : // it is good to remove the annoying warning messages @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") public class Tester extends TestingPackage { ... } Basically I've got a lot of testing code that prints out something into FireBug console. I don't wanna manually "comment out" them because the guy that is going to maintain the code might not be aware of all the testing functions, so he/she might just miss one function and the whole thing can be brought down to its knees. One other thing, we might use a minimizer to "shrink" the source code into "human unreadable" code and boost up performance (just like jQuery.min), so trying to match testing section out of the mess is not possible for plain human eyes in the future. Any suggestion is much appreciated.

  • How do I flip a column in mysql that has data structured: 'last name, first name'?

    - by ggg
    I want to create a new column in a MYSQL table that has Fn Ln instead of Ln, Fn. Most of my data is printed Fn Ln. Another idea is to incorporate a string function each time there is an output (php based) but that seems to waste resources. Finally, I couldn't find the syntax (loop or foreach) for my php function anyway. Here is the working php function that I got from a previous post: $name = "Lastname, Firstname"; $names = explode(", ", $name); $name = $names[1] . " " . $names[0];

  • Loop over DOMDocument

    - by Zoredache
    I am following the suggestion from this question Robust, Mature HTML Parser for PHP, about parsing html that may be malformed with DOMDocument. Is there any easy way to loop over the parsed document? So I would like to loop over html like this. $html='<ul> <li>value1</li> <li>value1</li> <li>value3</li> </ul> <p>hello world</p>'; $doc = new DOMDocument(); $doc->loadHTML($html); ??? foreach (??? as $node) { print $node->nodeName.':'.$node->nodeValue; } And get results somewhat like this. ul: li:value1 li:value2 li:value3 p:hello world

  • Variable naming for arrays/lists/collections - C#

    - by David Neale
    What should I call a variable instantiated with some type of array? Is it okay to simply use a pluralised form of the type being held? IList<Person> people = new List<Person>(); or should I append something like 'List' to the name? IList<Person> personList = new List<Person>(); Is it generally acceptable to have loops like this? foreach(string item in items) { //Do something }

  • Easy way to Populate a Dictionary<string,List<string>>

    - by zion
    Greetings Guru's, my objective is to create a Dictionary of Lists, does a simpler technique exist? I prefer the List(t) to IEnumerable(t) which is why I chose the Dictionary of Lists over Ilookup or IGrouping. The code works but it seems like a messy way of doing things. string[] files = Directory.GetFiles (@"C:\test"); Dictionary<string,List<string>> DataX = new Dictionary<string,List<string>>(); foreach (var group in files.GroupBy (file => Path.GetExtension (file))) { DataX.Add (group.Key, group.ToList()); }

  • Silverlight, dealing with Async calls

    - by Billy
    Hi there, I have some code as below: foreach (var position in mAllPositions) { DoAsyncCall(position); } //I want to execute code here after each Async call has finished So how can I do the above? I could do something like: while (count < mAllPositions.Count) { //Run my code here } and increment count after each Async call is made ... but this doesn't seem like a good way of doing it Any advice? Is there some design pattern for the above problem as i'm sure it's a common scenario?

  • Localize node texts in treeview using resource files

    - by Obalix
    For a project I need a tree view that allows the user to select a module, which then is displayed in a content area. The project relies heavily on localization and this is provided by the resource files. Now I discovered today, that the text that are assigned to preset tree view nodes are not contained in the resource files. So the question is whether there is a way of doing this, short of mapping the elemenst in code. I.e. assigning a name to the node, running over all nodes and pulling the resources from the resouce manager based on the node name. This is what I am currently doing, however, it just doesn't "feel" right: private void TranslateNodes(TreeNodeCollection treeNodeCollection) { var rm = Resources.ResourceManager; foreach (TreeNode node in treeNodeCollection) { node.Text = rm.GetString(node.Name + "_Text"); this.TranslateNodes(node.Nodes); } } Thanks!

  • Codeigniter: Retrieving a variable from Model to use in a Controller

    - by Craig Ward
    Hi, I bet this is easy but been trying for a while and can't seem to get it to work. Basically I am setting up pagination and in the model below I want to pass $total_rows to my controller so I can add it to the config like so '$config['total_rows'] = $total_rows;'. function get_timeline_filter($per_page, $offset, $source) { $this->db->where('source', $source); $this->db->order_by("date", "desc"); $q = $this->db->get('timeline', $per_page, $offset); $total_rows = $this->db->count_all_results(); if($q->num_rows() >0) { foreach ($q->result() as $row) { $data[] = $row; } return $data; } } I understand how to pass things form the Controller to the model using $this->example_model->example($something); but not sure how to get a variable from the model?

  • CSV string handling

    - by Christian Hagelid
    Typical way of creating a CSV string (pseudocode): create a CSV container object (like a StringBuilder in C#) Loop through the strings you want to add appending a comma after each one After the loop, remove that last superfluous comma. Code sample: public string ReturnAsCSV(ContactList contactList) { StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); foreach (Contact c in contactList) { sb.Append(c.Name + ","); } sb.Remove(sb.Length - 1, 1); //sb.Replace(",", "", sb.Length - 1, 1) return sb.ToString(); } I feel that there should be an easier / cleaner / more efficient way of removing that last comma. Any ideas? Update I like the idea of adding the comma by checking if the container is empty, but doesn't that mean more processing as it needs to check the length of the string on each occurrence?
