• How to model "target day" in UML Classdiagrams

  Hi there, I want to describe the following situation in an UML Classdiagram: A day, on which a newspaper is send to a customer. This day could be sth. like "every friday" or "every first day of a month". My idea to represent this in a UML Classdiagram: -targetDay:Integer -targetDayGrid:Enumeration targetDay would be sth. like "1" (for monday) oder "5" (for friday) or it could be "1" for the first day of the month or "10" for the 10th day of the month. targetDayGrid is an enum: weekly, monthly. So the enum sets the semantic meaning of the number in targetDay. I´m not happy with this, do you know any other solution to represent my problem? Or do you think my solution is okay?

• Using ELMAH and URLRewritingNet Together

  I have ELMAH setup on my production server and it has done a fantastic job of letting me know about any niggles - as well as any creative SQL injection! I've decided to introduce URl Rewriting and went for http://www.urlrewriting.net/ in the end. It was nice and easy to setup and it's doing exactly what I want with the customer-facing site. The problem is ELMAH. • OpenCart Service Scheduling

  I am looking to develop an extension to OpenCart which will allow me to both sell products and sell scheduled services. For the scheduled services, I would like to have the storefront interface change so the customer sees a calendar. It would be Nirvana for the calendar to show only available dates/times, but at the very least they should see a calendar. Then, on the administrative side, there should be a place where there is a list of desired dates/times for scheduled services. I'm wondering if anyone is aware of community-developed extensions which do this, or come close? If not, any recommendations for how to accomplish this properly are welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a good resource that coves the following topics: How to create an interface that promotes code maintainability and is extensible for future upgrades. Library creation guidelines. Example, when should I consider using static vs dynamic libraries. How to properly design an ABI to cope with either one. Header files: what to partition out and when. Examples on when to use 1:1 vs 1:many .h to .c Anything you feel I missed but is important when attempting to architect a new C project. Ideally, I'd like to see some example projects ranging from small to large and see how the architecture changes depending on project size, function or customer.   Heya, I want to create a winforms app where you can assign tags to an entity. ofc I want the customer to re-use existing tags a lot. That's why I want to show them the list of tags while they are typing (similar to intellisense in VS and the tags-dropdown even here in stackoverflow ;)) do you have any control(s) in mind that offers this functionality? can I reuse a ComboBox for this? (here I need to drop it down programatically - how?) I want to have the taglist getting input-focus but not lose the mainform-focus, and I want it to be on top over all windows and even range out of the mainform-area (like intellisense in vs) thx!

• How do I obtain a new stateful session bean in a servlet thread?

  I'm experimenting with EJB3 I would like to inject a stateful session bean into a servlet, so that each user that hits the servlet would obtain a new bean. Obviously, I can't let the bean be an instance variable for the servlet, as that will be shared. And apparantly injecting local variables isn't allowed. I can use the new operator to create a bean, but that doesn't seem the right approach. Is there a right way to do this? It seems like what I'm trying to do is fairly straightforward, after all, we would want each new customer to find an empty shopping cart.

  Hi, I am using paypal standard as my payment gateway. My problem is that, in Paypal Standard payment method, I have done my code as below: When user click on return to merchant button from paypal then user return to the site with order data , and on that page my order entry will be inserted in my DB. So my problem occur when someone pays but don't click on return to merchant link. So in this case customer gets paid, but due to no entry my DB its not working proper. Hope I am clear to all. • Is it viable and necessary to encrypt bytes?

  We have a requirement from customer that if someone gets access to the database, all data that includes personal information should be encrypted, so that when they do select calls, they shouldn't be able to see anything in clear text. Now this isn't any problem for Strings, but what about bytearrays? (that can potentially be quite huge (several 100mb)) When you do a select call, you get gibberish anyways. Is it possible for a hacker to somehow read the bytes and get the sensitive information without knowing how the structure of the object it is mapped against is? Because if that is the case, then I guess we should encrypt those bytes, even if they can potentially be quite huge. (I am guessing adding encryption will make them even bigger)

• Best way to change Satchmo checkout page fields?

  For a Satchmo project we have to change the fields a customer has to fill out during checkout. Specifically, we have to: Add a 'middle name' field Replace the bill and delivery addressee with separate first, middle and last name fields Replace the two address lines with street, number and number extension These fields are expected by an upstream web service, so we need to store this data separately. What's the best way to achieve this with minimal changes in the rest of Satchmo? We prefer a solution in which we do not have to change the Satchmo code itself, but if required we can fork it.

  I am struggling with the configuration for the scenario below. I have a custom WCF/WIF STS (RP-STS) that provides security tokens to my WCF services RP-STS is an "Active" STS RP-STS acts as a claims transformation STS RP-STS trusts tokens from many customer-specific identity provider STSes (IdP-STS) When a WCF Client connects to a service it should authenticate with it's local IdP-STS The reading that I've done describes this as Home Realm Discovery. HRD is usually described within the context of web applications and Passive STSes. My questions is, for my situation, does the logic for choosing an IdP-STS endpoint belong in the RP-STS or the WCF Client application? I thought it belonged in the RP-STS, but I cannot figure out the configuration to make this happen. RP-STS has a single endpoint, but I cannot figure out how to add more than one trusted issuer per endpoint. Any guidance on this would be very appreciated (I'm out of useful keywords to Google.) Also, if I'm way off please offer alternative approaches. Thanks!

• Python/Django: Which authorize.net library should I use?

  I need authorize.net integration for subscription payments, likely using CIM. The requirements are simple - recurring monthly payments, with a few different price points. Customer credit card info will be stored a authorize.net . There are quite a few libraries and code snippets around, I'm looking for recommendations as to which work best. Satchmo seems more than I need, and it looks like it's complex. Django-Bursar seems like what I need, but it's listed as alpha. The adroll/authorize library also looks pretty good. The CIM XML APIs don't look too bad, I could connect directly with them. And there are quite a few other code snippets. What's the best choice right now, given my fairly simple requirements?

  Are there any standard or "best practice" ways of limiting feature functionality for a particular application? Example: We have a product with a variety of features, and our customers can pick and choose which features they would like to use, and the cost of the product varies based on which features they are actually using. In the past, we have distributed along with our software installer an encrypted license file that contains information about the customer, as well as the collection of features that they have enabled. In code, we read from the license file and enable the functionality according to the license file. This seems to work fine, except there a few disadvantages: Upgrading users with new functionality can be sort of a pain If a particular feature shows up in multiple places throughout the application, a developer might not realize that this feature should be licensed, and forget to check the license file before granting functionality to the user If the license file becomes corrupted, deleted, moved, renamed, etc. the application will not run We're getting ready to roll out a new set of features, and I was just curious what others in the community have done to tackle this problem?

  We would like to reserve a set of primary key identifiers for all tables (e.g. 1-1000) so that we can bootstrap the system with pre-loaded system data. All our JPA entity classes have the following definition for the primary key. @Id @GeneratedValue(strategy = IDENTITY) @Column(name = "id", unique = true, nullable = false, insertable = false, updatable = false) private Integer id; is there a way to tell the database that increments should start happening from 1000 (i.e. customer specific data will start from 1000 onwards). We support (h2, mysql, postgres) in our environment and I would prefer a solution which can be driven via JPA and reverse engineering DDL tools from Hibernate. Let me know if this is the correct approach

  I am assigned to a performance-tuning-debugging-troubleshooting task. Scenario: a multi-application environment running on several networked machines using databases. OS is Unix, DB is Oracle. Business logic is implemented across applications using synchronous/asynchronous communication. Applications are multi-user with several hundred call center users at peak time. User interfaces are web-based. Applications are third party, I can get access to developers and source code. I only have the production system and a functional test environment, no load test environment. Problem: bad performance! I need fast results. Management is going crazy. I got symptom examples like these: user interface actions taking minutes to complete. Seaching for a customer usually takes 6 seconds but an immediate subsequent search with same parameters may take 6 minutes. What would be your strategy for finding root causes?

• Views performance in MySQL for denormalization

  I am currently writing my truly first PHP Application and i would like to know how to project/design/implement MySQL Views properly; In my particular case User data is spread across several tables (as a consequence of Database Normalization) and i was thinking to use a View to group data into one large table: CREATE VIEW `Users_Merged` ( name, surname, email, phone, role ) AS ( SELECT name, surname, email, phone, 'Customer' FROM `Customer` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Admin' FROM `Administrator` ) UNION ( SELECT name, surname, email, tel, 'Manager' FROM `manager` ); This way i can use the View's data from the PHP app easily but i don't really know how much this can affect performance. For example: SELECT * from `Users_Merged` WHERE role = 'Admin'; Is the right way to filter view's data or should i filter BEFORE creating the view itself? (I need this to have a list of users and the functionality to filter them by role). EDIT Specifically what i'm trying to obtain is Denormalization of three tables into one. Is my solution correct? • Running a GWT application inside an IFRAME from an ASP.NET 3.5 app?

  We are looking at integrating a full-blown GWT (Google Web Toolkit 2.0) application with an existing ASP.NET 3.5 application. My first gut reaction is that this is a horrible frankenstein idea. However, the customer has insisted that we use this application developed by a third-party. I have almost NO CONTROL over the development of the GWT app. My first thought is to actually attempt to embed this in an iFrame. Because GWT is running under Tomcat/Jakarta, it is hosted on a different server from the .NET app so the iFrame src will be to a URL on the other machine. I need to utilize our own ASP.NET authorization scheme to restrict access to the embedded GWT application. The GWT app also uses embedded java applets, which don't seem to be working right now inside the iframe. Any major problems with this approach that anyone can see? Will GWT work on an iframe while hosted on a different machine?

  We have all seen things like the typing system of JavaScript (There is a funny post including a truth table somewhere around here). I consider this one of the main things that makes a programming language bad. Other things that spring to mind: Bad Error messages (Either obfuscated so you can't figure out whats wrong, not existing or simply too long and red) The language wasn't planned and just grew uncontrolled in all directions (PHP?) The language encourages bad programm(er/ing) habits such as: Global variables everywhere, bad variable names Inconsistent naming conventions inside the language I can't come up with any more at the moment and would be very happy to read what you think about this. What shouldn't be missing in a language created to be as bad (from the perspectives of the programmer, the company that hires to programmer, the team leader and the customer) as possible? (I ask this because I'm designing a bad, experimental language at the moment)

  I'm looking for the best way to store per-Build configuration information for an iPhone app. In my iPhone app there are several url's and storage location settings that are specific to a particular build (DEBUG RELEASE etc) Currently i have three recipients for my app, QA/Test, myself and the customer, each has specific settings for the url's and storage locations mentioned above. whats the best way to do this? NOTE: they don't necessarily have to be defined in the build but what im looking for is advice on the best way to store alternate configuration settings.   Hi Im writing a notification platform using C# and NHibernate. Im having difficulties with my queries. I have a Customer entity - which contains a AssessmentCompleted Property. A notification should be sent out 21 months after certification. So my query needs to include all customers where their AssessmentCompletedDate + 21months < currentDate. How do I achieve this? Is there a month add method in nhibernate? I need to add 21 months to each AssessmentCompletedProperty...My query needs to look something like: SELECT new Notification(c.Id, c.Description, c.AssessmentCompleted + 21 FROM Cusomter c AND c.AssessmentCompleted + 21 <= :EndDate

We have a requirement to have single package for the installation that will: Show one UI with progress Allow user to choose which features/packages to install Have ability to constrain one feature to another (e.g removing or adding effect other) Support single elevation (UAC) nice to have ability to auto update (not must) support command line + silent installation the package should be built out of the isolated installations (chain them) raise error / messages for missing prerequisites Support patches over time and major upgrades Today we do almost all of the above using MSI with nested installations which is bad practice and we face too many issues in our solution. i know that there are several bootstrappers out there (m$ generic bootstrapper which i think is not good, BURN is the WIX version which is not mature enough) Do you know of other? that work and tested already ? What is the best method to do (without unification of the MSI into a single MSI)

  In many places in our code we have collections of objects, from which we need to create a comma-separated list. The type of collection varies: it may be a DataTable from which we need a certain column, or a List<Customer>, etc. Now we loop through the collection and use string concatenation, for example: string text = ""; string separator = ""; foreach (DataRow row in table.Rows) { text += separator + row["title"]; separator = ", "; } Is there a better pattern for this? Ideally I would like an approach we could reuse by just sending in a function to get the right field/property/column from each object.

  I've come up with a simple search view to search for records in my app. The user just enters all parameters in the search box then all this is matched against the database, then results are returned. One of these fields is the phone number....now in the database it's stored in the format XXX-XXX-XXX.
