• How do I get Java to use the serial port in Linux?

  We make use of a java application that manages a pinpad via the serial port. This works perfectly on windows with the Sun Comm.jar, the supplied dll and the properties file. Now we are attempting to use this solution on Linux (actually it does run on various other flavours of linux out in the field) - with Ubuntu server mode. After much attempts - blood, sweat and almost tears we have this scenario: Java version 1.4.2_17 Linux - Ubuntu Comm libs - Comm3 supplied by sun with the default driver specified An external comm test shows the comm ports: /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS1 But the java application says unable to open port /dev/ttyS1 (using the RXRT files produces invalid port errors) Has anyone been able to use java 1.4.2 on linux for serial port communication and found a solution that I could apply in my scenario? greatly appreciated Phill

• WinForms Application Hangs

  Hi, I have an application (ABC) that I developed and it as a windows application (.exe). It is by itself quite a big application referring a lot of dll's. However, now there is a requirement that demands that this application(ABC) be a part of an even larger application (XYZ). Hence, I had to change the project type of "ABC" from being a windows application to a class library, and by changing a few lines of code. My problem is that, ever since I started using ABC as part of XYZ, the application started hanging if I dint perform any operation on it for 10 to 15 mins... I do not have any problems while running it as a separate application. Any reasons why this might occur? Any suggestions would be really appreciated... Thanks, Ram

• ASP.NET 32-bit machine compiled now trying to run on 64-bit machine

  I have an ASP.NET app that was compiled on a 32-bit machine. There are many different assemblies that are referenced. I opened the web site's main dll with ILDASM and looked at the .corflags. It stated it was ILONLY. However, when I run the web site locally on the 64-bit machine (Windows XP Pro 64-bit), I get "is not a valid Win32 applciation". Shouldn't the app run as 64-bit since it was compiled with "AnyCPU"? How can I get this to work? I am using .NET 3.5.

• Paypal adaptive payment API call with C# .NET? Preferably with WebServices

  Okay I might be entirely off track now but here goes: Our "webshop" offers two functions, buying a specific product and selling it back to us. Back-end handles if the user can sell or not. I've decided to use Paypal's adaptive payments for this one as it seems the way to go doing these kinds of transactions. I've never implemented any kind of shop so I'm totally green with this one. I only recently learned ASP.NET and have mainly developed games before moving to this kind of development. HTTP is still some level of magic to me hehe.. I might be confused but I think paypal offers a webservice with their adaptive payment API. My humble request: A nice soul who wants to share an example of implementing an adaptive payment API call with C# .NET. If they don't offer it as a webservice I'll probably find it as a custom .dll or something. Any tips and examples are highly appreciated! Thanks for reading

• Application.Current.Shutdown() vs. Application.Current.Dispatcher.BeginInvokeShutdown()

  First a bit of background: I have a WPF application, which is a GUI-front-end to a legacy Win32-application. The legacy app runs as DLL in a separate thread. The commands the user chooses in the UI are invoked on that "legacy thread". If the "legacy thread" finishes, the GUI-front-end cannot do anything useful anymore, so I need to shutdown the WPF-application. Therefore, at the end of the thread's method, I call Application.Current.Shutdown(). Since I am not on the main thread, I need to invoke this command. However, then I noticed that the Dispatcher also has BeginInvokeShutdown() to shutdown the dispatcher. So my question is: What is the difference between invoking Application.Current.Shutdown(); and calling Application.Current.Dispatcher.BeginInvokeShutdown();

• Spark compiled views locating

  Hello I have a problem with Spark. I have compiled assembly with views, located in bin subfolder of website, that i created like below engine.BatchCompilation(targetFolder, Global.AllKnownDescriptors()); On start of my app, a try to load compiled views: svf.Engine.LoadBatchCompilation(Assembly.LoadFrom(Path.Combine(basePath, "SharedViews.dll"))); When debugging, i can see that this was successfull. But ViewEngine doesn't find that views. It even doesn'n look for them in CompiledViewHolder where they are located. May that problem be caused ny wrong IViewFolder? Or i should do something more to use compiled views? Thanks

• Embedding QT application in Eclipse/RCP framework

  Hi, I'm trying to embed my working QT application in Eclipse RCP framework(might not sound wise but i need to do this). I'm using QT 4.5 (not yet explored what QTJambi is all about and has to offer) I convert my existing application as a dll and load it through eclipse application. Things dont work as they should as the QTApplication loop sits listening for events, and there is a good mismatch of events. Certain UI objects dont get the events. If I comment my Qppliaction::exec(), then the behaviour in QT app changes. Is there a way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve?? Thanks

• How to handle BL cache for multiple web applications?

  I recently received a project that contains multiple web applications with no MVC structure. For starters I've created a library (DLL) that will contain the main Business Logic. The problem is with Caching - If I use the current web context cache object than I might end up with duplicate caching (as the web context will be different for every application). I'm currently thinking about implementing a simple caching mechanism with a singleton pattern that will allow the different web sites (aka different application domains) to share their "caching wisdom". I'd like to know what is the best way to solve this problem.

• Windows CE 5.0 image building: Possible without Platform Builder?

  Is it possible to create Windows CE 5.0 images (ie: nk.bin) from VS2005/VS2008 without using Platform Builder? If so, how? Can a vendor BSP for WinCE 5 be loaded into VS2005/2008? Are there the parts to do this available for download from Microsoft (ie: the SDK), or must you buy the special bits (a la PB) from a "special distributor"? I know it is possible to build binaries (.dll, .exe) for WinCE 5.0 using VS, my question is about creating entire bootable CE 5.0 images for embedded platforms.

• Compiling python modules whith DEBUG defined on MSVC

  Python rather stupidly has a pragma directive in its include files that forces a link against python26_d.lib when the DEBUG preprocessor variable is defined. This is a problem because the python installer doesn't come with python26_d.lib! So I can't build applications in msvc in debug mode. If i temporarily #undef DEBUG for just one file I get many complaints about inconsistent DLL linkage. If I change the pragma in pythons include file I get undefined references to various debug functions. I have tried compiling my own version of python but its somehow different enough from the python that gets distributed that I can't use my modules with apps built with the vanilla version of python Can anyone give me any advice on how to get round this? • Should I put my output files in source control?

  I've been asked to put every single file in my project under source control, including the database file (not the schema, the complete file). This seems wrong to me, but I can't explain it. Every resource I find about source control tells me not to put generated output files in a source control system. And I understand, it's not "source" files. However, I've been presented with the following reasoning: Who cares? We have plenty of bandwidth. I don't mind having to resolve a conflict each time I get the latest revision, it's just one click It's so much more convenient than having to think about good ignore files Also, if I have to add an external DLL file in the bin folder now, I can't forget to put it in source control, as the bin folder is not being ignored now. The simple solution for the last bullet-point is to add the file in a libraries folder and reference it from the project. Please explain if and why putting generated output files under source control is wrong.

  I've created an C# class that contains 2 static method and I successfully created an Assembly in SQL 2005. When I try to create a table-valued function from that Assembly I get the following error: Msg 6509, Level 16, State 36, Procedure , Line 2 An error occurred while gathering metadata from assembly '' with HRESULT 0x80004005. We have other CLR functions that are that are with in the same dll and seem to work fine. I tried to emulate what the other functions are doing, but I can't seem to get this function to work. All the documentation online doesn't seem to help

I am currently using the wrapper ( C# syntax is provided , but it is a call from a different language ) zdiff( string ref str1, string ref str2, int range , int trim ) it calls inside str1 = GetHiDiff(@str1,1,trim) str2 = GetHiDiff(@str1,2,trim) where function GetHiDiff(s:pchar; sIndex:integer; wtrim:integer): pchar; stdcall; What it does it returns a left fragment html of str1 and a right html fragment of str2 with diffs highlighted as strings are passed by reference. Range parameter determines the size of html fragment. Not sure what trim 0 does.

  I have a question regarding the commandline options of msbuild. I am currently using msbuild to build projects using the existing solution files. These solution files have references to external dll which have different paths on each machine. I am currently writing a build script and passing the specific path to the project file via the /p: switch of msbuild. My current build line is: msbuild test.sln /p:ReferencePath="c:\abc" /p:ReferencePath="c:\rca" What i have noticed that Reference Path now contains only c:\rca and not c:\abc. this is causing problems for me since, the external dlls lie in two different directorys. I am allowed to keep multiple reference paths via visual studio, but not via the commandline. Is there any known way by which i can do this

• Creating excel template 2003 in C# on a machine with both 2003 and 2007 installed.

  I have both 2003 and 2007 Excel versions installed on my machine. The current source code uses Office11 (2003) interop assembly Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll to create the Excel template. When I create the template and open in Excel 2007, it opens perfectly. • Marshal struct to unmanaged array

  Hi guys, I have a C# struct to represent a cartesian vector, something like this: public struct Vector { private double x; private double y; private double z; //Some properties/methods } Now I have an unmanaged C dll that I need to call with P/Invoke. Some methods expect a double[3] parameter. The unmanaged C signature is something like void Cross(double a[3], double b[3], double c[3]); Is there any way to set up a P/Invoke signature so I can pass instances of my Vector struct and marshal them transparently to unmanaged double[3]? I would also need bidirectional marshaling as the unmanaged function needs to write the output to the argument array, so I guess I would need to marshal as LpArray. Any ideas? Thanks Pedro

But its not working in another server, after I deployed it. The folder is created successfully, but the word document file is not created. for word document creation, I had to refer another dll where I had included an additional namespace "Microsoft.Office.Interop.Word". • .NET WebService Custom Attribute

  I would like to add a custom attribute to a asmx web service to determine if the request is valid based on the client IP address. This is a similar idea to the AuthorizeAttribute in ASP.NET MVC. Is there anywhere (e.g. a HTTP module) I can put the code to look at the attribute on the webservice and decide whether to allow the request or not? In my web.config the handler for asmx is the ScriptHandlerFactory from the System.Web.Extensions dll. I have already implemented the functionality with a HTTP module and a config file with a list of allowed URLs, but I would prefer to get rid of the config file and just add an attribute to the webservice class. • QPluginLoader with PyQt modules as plugins: possible?

  Hi! I have a C++ application that loads externals plugins thanks to QPluginloader. QPluginLoader provides access to a Qt plugin. A Qt plugin is stored in a shared library (a DLL). The plugins have to inherit from a pure virtual class ( and Q_DECLARE_INTERFACE ) and QObject. I would like to create plugins by using python and PyQt. Is this possible without too much work? For instance if I have to convert the modules to C++ with boost::python, this could be nonsense, as PyQt is already a conversion from C++ to Python... Thanks!

  I'm trying to create a custom mapping with AutoMapper, but I can't use 3.0 syntax with lambdas. How would one convert this 3.0 code into 2.0 ? Mapper.CreateMap<MyClass, MyDto>() .ForMember(dest => dest.Name, opt => opt.MapFrom(src => src.CompanyName)) Edit: Since there was no better solution, we are now using vs2008 on one workstation to make these mappings and build a dll. • Look of the app - Py2exe / wxPython

  So my problem is the look and feel from my application, as it looks like an old look app. It is an wxPython application, and on python it runs fine and looks fine, but when I convert it to .exe using py2exe, the look is just bad. Now I know that if you are using XP you need some manifest to correct it but I am in other circumstances. I'm using Windows 7, and I'm using Python 2.6 (Yes, I am including the DLL's and the Microsoft.VC90.CRT.manifest). So my question is how can I solve this under these circumstances? NOTE: I tried to search on google, but the posts I found were rather old with people using XP and older python versions so I assumed it would be different? • error CS0133: Assigning the result of a function to a const in C#.net

  Trying to tidy up scope and avoid possible multiple calls to RegisterWindowMessage. Currently have a class used once with the following member [DllImport("user32.dll", SetLastError = true, CharSet = CharSet.Auto)] static extern int RegisterWindowMessage(string lpString); private int m_message = RegisterWindowMessage("MY_MSG"); As we only have one instance this seems ok, but think it would be more tidy to use. With my basic C# understanding this should call RegisterWindowMessage and assign the result to int and not allow it to change. private const int message = RegisterWindowMessage("MY_MSG"); however attempting to do so leads to a error CS0133: The expression being assigned to 'someclass.messageEvent' must be constant so now I'm confused, does this mean the function was being assigned and called each time m_message was used previously, is there something else missing?
