• Cannot select fields with the mouse Windows 7

  Lately I cannot select a word (field) with the mouse. When I left click on a field drag the mouse to the end of the field then release the button, the selection (blue shading) disappears. Sometimes after several tries the shading stays and I can delete the field. Up to a week ago everything worked fine. Is this a bug, virus? I am using Windows 7 Also, in Live Mail after I finished reading an item in the Inbox, I click the X in the upper right corner to return to the rest of my mail, but instead it takes me back to the desktop and have to double click the Live Mail again to continue. Again this only happened recently. Things worked OK before and this does not happen regularly.

I have done the following steps: In apache2/apache2.conf file ,HostnameLookups is set as OFF Tcpdump session confirmed thatApache was doing double reverse lookups even though the HostnameLookupsdirective was clearly turned off. No hostnames insites-available. The problem still remains.   I am trying to retrieve the individual detail rows without having to create an object for the parent. Looking at the SQL trace in NH Profiler the query appears to be correct. The problem feels like it is in the mapping but I am unsure how to troubleshoot that process. I am about to turn on logging to see what I can find but I thought I would post here in case someone with experience mapping joins knows where I am going wrong.

The question posed by the exercise it will the Fraction class written work with negative fractions such as -1/2 + -2/3? Is there anything in real life that comes close? If not, is it possible to define customized keywords in Java or JSP? Or do I have to create an entirely new programming language for that? What problems do you see with this kind of setup? PS: I know you can use HTML libraries to construct HTML using Java code, but the problem with such libraries is, the source code itself doesn't have a readable HTML representation like the code above does - if you get what I mean.

• Android Augmented Reality

  I'm working on my first Android Augmented Reality application. The application works pretty good if the ARActivity runs as the first class (android.intent.category.LAUNCHER) in the manifest file. But when I added a splash screen which means the ARActivity will be the second to run(android.intent.category.DEFAULT), the camera seems not detecting the marker. I believe the problem is all in the manifest file. Any suggestions ? • Installing isolated instance of MySQL on Windows using silent install with .msi

  I'm trying to write an installer for an internal application we wrote. After it installs our application it then installs MySQL using the .msi installer in silent mode. I specify the install dir and data dir to that of a directory within my application's install directory, such as: msiexec /i @@MYSQL_INSTALLER_FILE@@ /qn INSTALLDIR="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\" DATADIR="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\" USERNAME="@@DB_USER@@" PASSWORD="@@DB_PASS@@" (the @@variable@@'s are replace by my installer routine using InstallJammer) Once installed, I use mysqld.exe to install a windows service with a custom service name and defaults file like so: mysqld.exe --install CustomMySQL --defaults-file="@@INSTALL_DIR@@\MySQL\my.ini" This works fine as long as there is not already another instance of MySQL installed. If there is it silently fails to install MySQL. Running the msi installer manually (double-click) shows an error that a previous version is already installed and just aborts. Is there a way to automate installing MySQL as an isolated instance, regardless of whether another version/instance is already installed?

• Is an Intel Atom D525 suitable to run MythTV

  I have an oldish netbook with an Atom N450 (1.6GHz, 512KB cache) - I've been using it to experiment with MythTV, but it seems really slow, even just to work through the menus! Seconds, sometimes 10 or 20s, to load a new menu. Admittedly from a remote backend, but my older Core1 based laptop seems to be fine with the same setup. I was hoping to use one of the so-called "nettop" devices which currently seem to be D525-based (1.8GHz, 1MB cache) - is double the cache really going to make that much difference? Or has the internal architecture of the Atom moved on leaps and bounds in between? Given that I design non-Intel embedded computers for a living I was hoping to get lots of hardcore architecture detail from the Intel website, so I could see for myself, but I can't find it! So: will a D525 be fast enough to run a MythTV backend/frontend combined box?

• Cannot run setups from a vboxsvr mapped network drive on Windows 7 within VirtualBox

  I'm trying to run an application setup by double-clicking the setup.exe from within Windows Explorer. The file is located on a mapped network drive, and I'm using Windows 7. This results in the following error message: The specified path does not exist. Check the path, and then try again. The workaround I found is to copy the installer to the main hard drive (c:) and run it from there; however, this is rather inconvenient. The same action did work on Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista. I have the impression that the problem only occurs with installers, as everything seemed to work fine with regular exe's. Is there anyone who can explain this odd behavior? Update: After some extended tests I noticed that the problem only occurs with a mapped drive of VirtualBox's "shared folders" (cf. vboxsvr). Mapping an SMB drive works fine.

• Get exact size in bytes of a disk & partitions in windows

  Hi, I'm using dd (under cygwin) to copy a shadow image of a disk in windows. Shadow copy will only give me a partion, so what I am doing is: 1) using dd to grab the disk header (32k on Win2003) 2) using dd to copy the shadow partition 3) using dd to copy the end of of the disk (8 meg reserved on Win2003) 4) stitch them all together and boot on KVM I need the exact size of all the partitions and non partitioned space on this windows drive. Unfortunately most windows disk tools seem to fudge the numbers a bit, or at least give me a different size than Linux does. I could guess like this 32k + partition size + 8M, but I want to double check. If I make a mistake I could lose data. This is on a remote & live Windows 2003 server so no offline solutions will be helpful. Latest cygwin is installed.

• Install Mouse Driver on Windows 7 Professional 64 bit

  I have a mouse that I absolutely love (been using them for years), A4Tech WOP-35. It has dual scrollers and 5 buttons, 3 of the buttons are programmable. I use them at work and at home. At work I am using Windows 7 Enterprise (32 bit), at home I am using Windows 7 Professional (64 bit). The drivers installed easily on my machine at work. Unfortunately, they will not install on my computer at home. When I double click on the Setup.exe, it asks me if I want to install it, and of course I click on "Yes", but nothing happens. When I say nothing happens, I mean nothing happens; it appears that it doesn't even try to install. The same thing happens when I right click on the setup.exe and select run as administrator. How can I get around this? I am guessing it is because I am running the 64 bit version of Windows.

  I downloaded a CHM file. When I double click it it prompts me to open / save / cancel. Whether I open or save a new copy, the 'new' version will prompt the same open / save / cancel popup ad infinitum. Searching google it seems that Microsoft have deemed it right for security reason to block these files by default. The solution is to right click the file, and click the 'unblock' button at the bottom: The problem is that I don't have that button on my system: BTW, the button is also missing for .exe files.I'm using Win7 64bit. Any ideas?

• Toshiba monitor not displaying anything

  Alright, so I agreed to fix a friends computer, thinking it was a software problem, not hardware. I was going to use an XP disc and valid code to swap her from Vista to XP, as apparently Vista had some driver issues. I found out, however, that the real problem was her heat sink was completely clogged, causing the computer to overheat and shut down. So, I took the computer apart and cleaned the heat sink. However, after putting it all back together, and turning it on, nothing at all shows up. I plugged in an external monitor, and nothing shows up on that either. I have double, triple, decuply checked all the connections and everything appears to be plugged in, attached, and in the right place. I am out of ideas. So, my question is, does anyone have any clue what is going on, and have suggestions I could try?

  I just spent a lot of time populating Phone Numbers and Fax Numbers in our GAL/Active Directory. The goal of which was to replace our static *.xlsx file that we use as a corporate phone directory. I know I can see the GAL by clicking on the To... button, and I can see more specific info for a particular user, by adding them as a recipient and double-clicking their name in the To: field. Is there any way (inside Outlook) to have a laundry-list view of all users and phone/fax/mobile/address similar to the phone list view for contacts? Are there any other tools that might provide this functionality. I've used a GAL web interface before, but that cost $ and as I recall was challenging to manage.

• How to extend selection in gnome-terminal?

  In a terminal I can select a single line, double clicking with the Left Mouse Button. With xterm, I can extend that selection clicking with the Right Mouse Button in the place I want to extend it. Then can I paste the whole selection with the Middle Mouse Button or paste it in other application. In gnome-terminal, it seems I can extend the selection clicking with the Left Mouse Button, but holding at the same time the Shift key. Visually, it seems the selection is done, but when clicking with the Middle Mouse button or pasting in other application, I only get the primary single line selection. How can I get the whole selection under gnome-terminal? Is it possible to use selections in gnome-terminal as xterm does? Cheers, Tomas.

  I have a strange error in Windows 7 when I want to execute/open a file inside ZIP archive. I have two files: File1.dwg File2.dwg The archive is not corrupted ( I checked with 7zip utility ) When I double click on the any file inside ZIP (I opened ZIP with Windows Explorer), the error occured: Ok. If I open zip file with 7-zip or WinRAR every file could be opened(executed) without error and the AutoCAD is opened to see the dwg content. Why in Windows ZIP ? • IIS7.5 Windows Authentication missing providers menu item (ntlm)

  I'm trying to enable NTLM authentication on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine with IIS 7.5 for a specific file in my web root. I've been following these instructions http://docs.moodle.org/en/NTLM_authentication#IIS_Configuration In the IIS Manager I open the Authentication module, disable anonymous authentication and enable Windows Authentication however according to every post I can find on the matter I should have a 'providers' option appear but I don't. I've double checked in Server Manager that the 'Windows Authentication' security feature is enabled for IIS. Any help anyone can offer would be great, Thank you!

• Which linear programming package should I use for high numbers of constraints and "warm starts"

  I have a "continuous" linear programming problem that involves maximizing a linear function over a curved convex space. In typical LP problems, the convex space is a polytope, but in this case the convex space is piecewise curved -- that is, it has faces, edges, and vertices, but the edges aren't straight and the faces aren't flat. Instead of being specified by a finite number of linear inequalities, I have a continuously infinite number. I'm currently dealing with this by approximating the surface by a polytope, which means discretizing the continuously infinite constraints into a very large finite number of constraints. I'm also in the situation where I'd like to know how the answer changes under small perturbations to the underlying problem. Thus, I'd like to be able to supply an initial condition to the solver based on a nearby solution. I believe this capability is called a "warm start." Can someone help me distinguish between the various LP packages out there? I'm not so concerned with user-friendliness as speed (for large numbers of constraints), high-precision arithmetic, and warm starts. Thanks!

• Regexp that matches user-agents of end-user browsers but NOT crawlers with >90 % accuracy

  I'm trying to construct a regexp that will evaluate to true for User-Agent:s of "browsers navigated by humans", but false for bots. Needless to say the matching will not be exact, but if it gets things right in say 90 % of cases that is more than good enough. My approach so far is to target the User-Agent string of the the five major desktop browsers (MSIE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Opera). Specifically I want the regexp NOT to match if the user-agent is a bot (Googlebot, msnbot, etc.). Currently I'm using the following regexp which appears to achieve the desired precision: ^(Mozilla.*(Gecko|KHTML|MSIE|Presto|Trident)|Opera).*$ I've observed small number of false negatives which are mostly mobile browsers. The exceptions all match: (BlackBerry|HTC|LG|MOT|Nokia|NOKIAN|PLAYSTATION|PSP|SAMSUNG|SonyEricsson) My question is: Given the desired accuracy level, how would you improve the regexp? Can you think of any major false positives or false negatives to the given regexp? Please note that the question is specifically about regexp-based User-Agent matching. There are a bunch of other approaches to solving this problem, but those are out of the scope of this question.

  I am trying to install flash player silently, using a powershell script. I do not think it is being installed. I looked under "control panel-uninstall programs" I don't see flash player listed there. Also, I am printing the exit code for the process and it prints 1603 exit code, which is "fatal error during installation" As an experiment, I double click on the flash player .msi file, and it gave me 1722 error " Error 1722.There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. "

• Nicely representing a floating-point number in python

  I want to represent a floating-point number as a string rounded to some number of significant digits, and never using the exponential format. Essentially, I want to display any floating-point number and make sure it “looks nice”. There are several parts to this problem: I need to be able to specify the number of significant digits. The number of significant digits needs to be variable, which can't be done with with the string formatting operator. I need it to be rounded the way a person would expect, not something like 1.999999999999 I've figured out one way of doing this, though it looks like a work-round and it's not quite perfect. (The maximum precision is 15 significant digits.) >>> def f(number, sigfig): return ("%.15f" % (round(number, int(-1 * floor(log10(number)) + (sigfig - 1))))).rstrip("0").rstrip(".") >>> print f(0.1, 1) 0.1 >>> print f(0.0000000000368568, 2) 0.000000000037 >>> print f(756867, 3) 757000 Is there a better way to do this? Why doesn't Python have a built-in function for this?

• How to convert a MKV video to a less CPU intensive video format?

  I have a couple of videos at 1920x800 that use the MKV format (4.7 GB). A friend of mine has an old PC that has some problems playing them; the CPU is working at nearly 100%. Is it possible to convert these videos to a less CPU intensive video format? The final size is not a problem, it can also double or more. Into which format should I convert it and which software for Windows should I use (better if free)? Thank you in advance.
