  I have extended a webapplication and set its zone to Intranet but now we decided to make that site anonymous I made all the settings in authentication provider and site collection settings but its still showing its zone as Intranet . I read that its best practice to keep Internet as the zone for anonymous access.. How can I change it now and does it affect leaving it as Intranet?

  The reason I want to do this is most of the time I have the computer plugged into a 52" LCD in another room displaying information. Occasionally I need to update the software and to do so I need to see what I am doing so I plug a monitor in locally. Problem is that it automatically adopts the device capabilities of the new monitor and thus changing the settings for the large screen. I then have to go to a networked administration panel for the software to update the resolution settings.

• SQL Server suddenly using only a small portion of CPU.

  We've got a Windows 2008 R2 server running SQL Server 2008. All of a sudden, the SQLServer process is refusing to go above 20% CPU usage. As of last week, when running a heavy query against the db it would rise to 100% usage as I would expect. We've had this server for a while and it seems strange that it would just suddenly have this limit. This limit is causing our queries to take a lot longer than they normally would. No one has (knowingly at least) made any changes to the server configuration. After a bit of investigation, I discovered the sys.dm_os_sys_memory view. This shows 'available physical memory is high' bu at the same time the available physical memory is 339552kb where as the total is 4193848kb. It is worth noting that this is a virtual server running on vmware. Is there a setting somewhere with in SQL Server that sets the maximum CPU usage? I've found the settings in resource governor, although this is currently off as it always has been. We have recently started using Spotlight for SQL Server by Quest Software. It's playback database was located on this server for a short time this morning, I first noticed the problem shortly afterwards, although I hadn't been doing any queries prior to this so I don't know if this is the point at which the problem began, however the database was working as expected on Friday afternoon.   We're running CI towards our WAS with wsadmin.bat The applications are updated with this command $AdminApp update ${projectName}EAR app {-operation update -update.ignore.new -contents {${artifactsDir}/${projectName}-${buildVersion}.ear}} This causes all the "Security role to user/group mapping"-settings to reset, even though all the other settings are preserved with the -update.ignore.new Anyone know how to fix this?

• Linux released memory

  If My process allocates some big memory and then deallocates, would top or gnome-system-monitor show that my memory usage of that process decreased ? or kernel will still reserve that memory for that process ? What I see is I am deallocating memory. But I still see gnome-system-monitor displaying growing memory for my program. I don't find memory leak in my end. I want to know whether its not displaying released memory ? or there is really a memory leak at my end ?

• Three monitor setup not working on Server 2012

  Using an ATI firepro 4800 card, with three monitors connected (1 dvi, 2 displayport) on Server 2008 R2 worked fine. Ive now moved to a new machine, although identical spec, with a fresh Server 2012 install, and cannot get a three display output - only two. When I try to extend the display on to the third monitor, I get the message "The display settings could not be saved. Please try a different combination of display settings" The machine is a Dell Precision T1600. Any help appreciated.

• PHPMyAdmin running very slow over internet but fine locally

  I connect to PHPMyAdmin remotely on a Centos server using my local PC via Firefox. Usually it's fine but today it's really slow (2 minutes to load a page), sometimes timing out. Other connections to the server are fine. The SSH command line is as fast as ever as is the GNOME dekstop over SSH. In fact on the GNOME desktop I can run PHPMyAdmin locally from its browser and it's as quick as ever (which is a solution to the problem of course). I've checked the various log files and seen nothing unusual, I've logged into the MySQL command line and the database is running fine without any slowing what so ever. So it just seems to be slow when I access PHPMyAdmin on the server from the browser on my remote PC (I've tried IE and Firefox, both are slow). Has anyone experienced this or have any ideas what the issue could be. Connecting via CLI through tunnel works OK - problem is in phpMyAdmin for sure. Cheers

  I have strange behavior with browsers on my PC (but it work well before yesteday) My Chrome, FF (ERROR: Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): Unknown Error ) write me that can't connect to Internet I need to check Proxy, Firewall etc. I did it and all settings are fine, on other PC in this area all working with the same settings. Its basically change audio to X with Y bitrate, change video to xvid. and do full processing on the video and audio.   I am running Snow Leopard OS X 10.6 and I have X11 installed. I also have ubuntu 10.04 LTS running on a remote machine. I have root privileges. So far I haven't really installed anything besides the operating system. This was done in an amazon aws type of way. I see people talking about getting gnome or a "remote desktop" type of thing working, but I'm not sure how to go about this. I connected and then typed in gnome-session but nothing happened. Maybe I don't have that thing installed yet? Can someone point me in the right direction? Also, is it possible to just start an X11 session with a single app, like notepad or a file and folder browser?

• Wifi network stopped being visible (and usable) (Linksys wag320n)

  Basically, my wifi network simply stopped working for no apparent reason. It doesn't appear in the list of the available networks anymore. I can see all my neighbors' networks, but not mine. It's as if it doesn't exist anymore. The internet connection (non-wifi), which goes through the same modem/router, is fine though. I already had a similar problem about one year ago (see here: Wifi network SSID not visible ), just after buying this very modem. I finally got it to work after performing two factory resets and getting rid of the Cisco "Magic" software; but this time it's not working. I use a linksys router-modem (WAG320N) which is directly connected (via network cable) to my desktop computer (Windows 7). I have (mainly) two devices that use the wifi network: my phone (Samsung Galaxy Nexus) and an Asus tablet (TF201, aka Transformer Prime). I also resurrected an old laptop computer (Dell, running Windows XP) to test that, and it doesn't see anything either (apart from the 20 other wifi networks, of course ^^). This wifi network was working just fine and has been for about a year. I haven't touched the modem settings so I have no idea what's causing the problem. I tried: making my phone "forget" about my network, hoping it would see it again after that: no luck. re-entering the network informations (SSID/password) manually on my phone: still no luck (says it's not in range) exporting the modem configuration, resetting the modem (factory reset, via modem admin), restarting it, importing the configuration: nope. factory reset, turning it off for 15 minutes, restarting, re-factory reset, and entering the configuration manually: still nothing. Has anybody experienced something similar before? Have you any suggestion to fix that? Thanks in advance. • Can a virus attack my BIOS to disable the DVD drive?

  A friend's laptop DVD drive is suddenly no longer detected. It's going to be difficult to walk him through going into the BIOS (he's not local). I wonder if it is even worthwhile i.e. whether the BIOS settings can be corrupted by a virus. Are BIOS settings formatted in a standard way such that a virus writer would know what to alter? FYI, he did reinstall the OS and the drive is still not detected.

This question was also posted Each time I do restart - Windows 8 resets my settings/registry to some state The "solution" was to create a new user - this is not an option as the user is defined by the domain server. Does anyone know what is causing the resetting and what a proper solution is?
