  • Error calling webservice using JSONP + jquery with IE on remote domain

    I have a .Net webservice on my app server that returns data formatted as JSONP. I have an HTML test client on that server which works fine using IE, Firefox, & Chrome. If I copy the same HTML to my workstation or deploy to my webserver it works with Firefox & Chrome but in IE I'm getting two javascript errors. Message: Object doesn't support this property or method Line: 1 Char: 1 Code: 0 URI: http://mydomain/WebServices/LyrisProxy/Services/Lyris/JSONP/Lyris.asmx/AddUser?lyrisInstance="1"&email="[email protected]"&fullName="My Name"&lyrisList="listname"&format=json&callback=jsonp1274109819864&_=1274109829665 Message: Member not found.   • How to call a JavaScript function from one frame to another in Chrome/Webkit with file protocol

    I have developed an application that has a list of items in one frame; when one clicks on an item it does something in another frame (loads an image). This used to work fine in all browsers, including Chrome 3; now it still works fine in Firefox but in recent versions of Chrome (I believe since 4) it throws this error: Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL (...) from frame with URL (...). Domains, protocols and ports must match. This is obviously a security "feature" but is it possible to get around it? Here is a simple test: index.html: <html> <frameset cols="50%,50%"> <frame src="left.html" name="left"/> <frame src="right.html" name="right"/> </frameset> </html> left.html: <html> <body> <a href="javascript:parent.right.test('hello');">click me</a> </body> </html> right.html: <html> <body> <script> function test(msg) { alert(msg); } </script> </body> </html> The above works in Firefox 3.6 and Chrome 3 but in Chrome 5 it throws the above error... Edit: added the @cols attribute to the frameset element in fact it works in Chrome if and only if the pages are served with the http protocol (and from the same domain) but my problem is when pages are local and served from a file:// protocol. Then it works in Firefox (all versions) and Chrome 3 but not Chrome 5 (I don't have Chrome 4 so I'm not shure about that specific version (and don't know if it's even possible to download a specific Chrome version?) -- but for Chrome 5 I'm very sure it doesn't work).

I want tooltips to be displayed as i scroll down the list in the dropdown, and the tooltips should be the text that the focus is currently on.     More often than I like when designers edit some of our sites' pages, they include javascript or an external image our SSL pages that are not encrypted. For example if we have a page like this: https://www.example.com/cart/EnterCreditCard And the designer includes some non-encrypted image like this: <img src='http://www.cardprocessor.com/logo.gif' /> Of course, this creates errors in all browsers: IE: Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely? Firefox: Connection Partially Encrypted Chrome: (I forget this message) What I'm looking for is a tool or plugin that lets me easily see what objects are not encrypted. A firefox extension or something along those lines would be great.

I want to run scripts from the Linux or Mac OS X command line, much like we run any other scripting language (ruby, php, perl, python...) $ javascript my_javascript_code.js I looked into spider monkey (Mozilla) and v8 (Google), but both of these appear to be embedded. Is anyone using Javascript as a scripting language to be executed from the command line? If anyone is curious why I am looking into this, I've been poking around node.js

If I do it like this, though this isn't the default browser Dim trgt1 As String = "http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?t=612471" pi.Arguments = trgt1 pi.FileName = "iexplore.exe" 'or firefox.exe System.Diagnostics.Process.Start(pi) it opens immediately. Is this a bug or a feature? I have tried this with both IE and FireFox set to be the default browser.

    I want to use multiple backgrounds in css, which are currently supported by Firefox 3.61, Chrome/Safari, supposedly Opera10.5 (doesn't run on gnu/linux). It is working fine, however i would like to use linear-gradients as a background. it works ok for Firefox, doesn't work at all with Chrome, yet i can't figure out how to make it work for both at the same time. any clues? http://snook.ca/archives/html_and_css/multiple-bg-css-gradients came the closest to match what i need, but i couldn't get it to work with chrome yet.

  • Java: Reading a pdf file from URL into Byte array/ByteBuffer in an applet.

    I'm trying to figure out why this particular snippet of code isn't working for me. I've got an applet which is supposed to read a .pdf and display it with a pdf-renderer library, but for some reason when I read in the .pdf files which sit on my server, they end up as being corrupt. I've tested it by writing the files back out again. I've tried viewing the applet in both IE and Firefox and the corrupt files occur. Funny thing is, when I trying viewing the applet in Safari (for Windows), the file is actually fine! I understand the JVM might be different, but I am still lost. I've compiled in Java 1.5. JVMs are 1.6. Edit: To further clarify my situation, the difference in the file before I read then with the snippet and after, is that the ones I output after reading are significantly smaller than they originally are. When opening them, they are not recognized as .pdf files. There are no exceptions being thrown that I ignore, and I have tried flushing to no avail. This snippet works in Safari, meaning the files are read in it's entirety, with no difference in size, and can be opened with any .pdf reader. In IE and Firefox, the files always end up being corrupted, consistently the same smaller size. I monitored the len variable (when reading a 59kb file), hoping to see how many bytes get read in at each loop. In IE and Firefox, at 18kb, the in.read(buf) returns a -1 as if the file has ended. Safari does not do this. I'll keep at it, and I appreciate all the suggestions so far.

    Hello everyone, I have a webcrawler application. It successfully crawled most common and simple sites. Now i ran into some types of websites wherein HTML documents are dynamically generated through FORMS or javascripts. I believe they can be crawled and I just don't know how. Now, these websites do not show the actual HTML page. I mean if I browse that page in IE or firefox, the HTML code does not match what's actually in the IE or firefox. These sites contain textboxes, checkboxes, etc... so I believe they are what they call "Web Forms". Actually I am not much familiar with web development so correct me if I'm wrong. My question is, does anyone in similar situation as I am now and have successfully solved these types of "challenges"? Does anyone know of a certain book or article regarding web crawling? Those that pertains to these advanced type of websites? Thanks.

    Hello, I have a web page that has a DIV and an IFRAME. When a user clicks a button in my DIV, I need to submit the web form that is hosted in my IFRAME. Both pages are hosted on the same server in the same directory. My code that attempts to submit the web form looks like this: $("#myIFrame").contents().find("form").submit(); When this code is called, I receive an error in IE that says: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" In FireFox when I execute the code, I receive an error that says: "The connection was reset" In FireFox when I look at the error console I see: "Error: Permission denied for http://localhost:2995 to get property HTMLDocument.nodeType from ." What am I doing wrong?

  • CSShover.htc file fixes problems on IE and creates them in Chrome

    Hi, I have attached a CSShover.htc file on my site to rectify the inherent problems in IE when creating a horizontal SPRYmenu in dreamweaver. The file has worked tremendously and displays fine on mozilla and IE. However on Chrome (my default browser) the menu skips accross the page by about 20px. The menu is quite wide in total at 975px. The menu still works on chrome but i would just like that the page displays the same on all browsers. Please help with your suggestions; Andy

    I have to add either an embed tag for Firefox or an object tag for Internet Explorer with JavaScript to address the appropriate ActiveX / Plugin depending on the browser. The plugin could be missing and needs to get downloaded in this case. The dynamically added embed tag for Firefox works as expected. The dynamically added object tag for Internet Explorer seems to do nothing at all. The object tag needs the following attributes to function properly. id ="SomeId" classid = "CLSID:{GUID}" codebase = "http://www.MyActicexSource.com/MyCuteActivex.CAB#Version=2,0,0,1" Even a general working idea or method would be nice. This is the code I'm using: if ($('#chkjq_1').attr('checked') == true) It works fine on Firefox or Chrome, but on Internet Explorer 7, the condition is always false because the browser sets the property this way: <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" CHECKED/> IE7 And the right way is the following: (Firefox, Chrome): <input id="chkjq_1" type="checkbox" checked="checked"/> FF, Chrome, etc What should I do to avoid this issue on Internet Explorer 7; is there a generic way in jquery to solve this?     Yes, I know the following code does not work in IE. I know IE expects me to use XDomainRequest() instead. I don't care about that. This is firefox only. I'm trying to do a cross-domain web request in firefox javascript. I keep getting a status of 0.   • When should I observe javascript events on window vs. document vs. document.body?

    I'm using prototype.js for my web app, and I have everything running on chrome, safari, and firefox. I am now working on IE8 compatibility. As I've been debugging in IE, I've noticed that there are javascript events for which I have previously set an observer on the window, e.g. Event.observe(window, eventType, function () {...}); (where eventType might be "dom:loaded", "keypress", etc.) and it works just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox. However, in IE the observer never fires. In at least some cases I could get this to work on IE by instead placing the observer on something other than window, e.g. document (in the case of "dom:loaded") or document.body (in the case of "keypress"). However, this is all trial-and-error. Is there some more systematic way to determine where to place these observers such that the results will be cross-browser compatible? Thanks!

  • Keyboard focus being stolen by Flash

    Performing a search, I noticed several questions dedicated to how to steal/trap the keyboard focus of the visitor. Considering this site is dedicated to programming that's not suprising. I was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to prevent this type of behavior. Losing keyboard focus to flash basically removes my browser's functionality until I use the mouse to click elsewhere (I use Mozilla Firefox). Anyone know of some kind of plugin or greasemonkey script that will prevent my keyboard focus from being stolen? Normal browser "shortcuts" are rendered useless by having to use the mouse to return keyboard focus to the browser. Edit: Reply to the post below, I do have flashblock / noscript and some other things. My issue is flash that I want to see/interact with stealing my focus. Basically looking for something I can toggle that will prevent flash from getting keyboard focus or a way to force my firefox keyboard commands to the browser
