• HSQLDB and in-memory files

  Is it possible to setup HSQLDB in a way, so that the files with the db information are written into memory instead of using actual files? I want to use hsqldb to export some data structures together with hibernate mappings. Is is, however, not possible to write temporary files, so that I need to generate the files in-memory and return a stream with their contents as a response. Setting hsqldb to use nio seems not to be a solution, because there is no way to get hold of those files before they get written onto the filesystem. What I'm thinking of is a protocol handler for hsqldb, but I didn't find a suitable solution yet. Just to describe in other words: A hack solution would be to pass hsqldb a stream or several streams. It would then during its operation write data into those streams. After all data is written, the user of the db could then use those streams to send it back over the network.

  hello, i have a mini app where users can login, view their profile, and follow each other. • Returning NSNull from actionForLayer:forKey

  If I implement the CALayer delegate method actionForLayer:forKey I can return [NSNull null] to force the CALayer to not animate any changes. Unfortunately, [NSNull null] doesn't implement the CAAction delegate and XCode kicks out the following warning: warning: class 'NSNull' does not implement the 'CAAction' protocol Here is the method code: - (id<CAAction>)actionForLayer:(CALayer *)theLayer forKey:(NSString *)theKey { //This disables the animations when moving things around //Also, don't animate the selection box. • Setting up a Git remote with a truncated history

  I am in the midst of doing some non-standard, probably doomed, experiments on a git repository. The goal is to create a remote repository with a truncated history which can still share commits with an internal repository which has a full history. I've had some success using a graft to connect the public history with the private history - when I push from my internal repository, only the post-graft contents are included. So my main question is: what is the simplest way of taking a commit, eliminating its parent and writing a graft in place of the parent? A more general question: is what I'm trying to do going to cause me pain in the long run, do you know if there's a better way?

• Gruber URL Regex tweak to capture "domain.com"

  I found an updated version of John Gruber's regex for url matching in this post by user GianPac, which states it's been adapted to recognize url without protocol or the www part: (?i)\b((?:[a-z][\w-]+:(?:/{1,3}|[a-z0-9%])|www\d{0,3}[.]|[a-z0-9.-]+[.][a-z]{2,4}/?)(?:[^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+)))))(?:(([^\s()<]+|(([^\s()<]+))))|[^\s`!()[]{};:'\".,<?«»“”‘’])) Whilst this works in most cases, I found it does not match "google.com". It does match "google.comm" and "google.co.uk", so this must be a small oversight. The trouble is, I literally hate regex. It's the bane of my life. I just want to try and tweak this one more time to allow for "google.com" - can anyone throw me a pointer? I (think) it's something to do with this part of the code: +[.][a-z]{2,4}/?) ?

• Max tcp/ip connections on Windows Server 2008

  I have .Net service that listens on single port over TCP protocol. Clients connect and then transmit data for some time (from few minutes to several hours). Is there any limit on number of connections on Windows 2008 server? I did not hit any, since now there is up to 50 users. Plan is to have thousands of users, so I'd like to know if there will be problems in future. Edit: As Cloud answered, it seems that there are some limits in some versions of Windows Server 2008. Is there any reference on those limits? I tried Google, but it returns articles on limit on half-bound tcp connections.

  My understanding is that SSL combines an encryption algorithm (like AES, DES, etc.) with akey exchange method (like Diffier-Hellman) to provide secure encryption and identification services between two endpoints on an un-secure network (like the Internet). My understanding is that SASL is an MD5/Kerberos protocol that pretty much does the same thing. So my question: what are the pros/cons to choosing both and what scenarios make both more preferable? Basically, I'm looking for a guidelines to follow when choosing SSL or to go with SASL instead. Thanks in advance!

• What guides or standards do you use for version control in your team ?

  I'm starting to do a small amount of development within my company. I'm intending to use Git for version control, and I'm interested to see what guidelines or standards people are using around version in their groups, similar to coding standards are often written within the group for the group. I'm assuming there will be things like; Commit often (at least every day/week/meeting etc) Release builds are always made from the master branch Prior to release, a new branch will be created for Testing and tagged as such. only bug fixes from this point onwards. The final release of this will be tagged as such and the bug fixes merged back into the trunk Each developer will have a public repo New features should get their own branch Obviously a lot of this will depend on what cvs you're using and how you've structured it. • Finding an available network port on the machine

  I'm trying to implement a simple FTP server (a variation of the EFTP protocol) in linux. When a client connects and sends the PASV command, the server should respond with a port number, so the client can connect to that port to transmit the file. How can the server choose a port number? Do I need to iterate through all the ports from 1024 to 65535 until I find a port that the process can bind to? I know that calling bind() with 0 as the port automatically chooses the port to bind to, but then how can I know which port was chosen? Many thanks.

• irritating TortoiseSVN error - file or directory is corrupted and chkdsk at boot

  Can't move 'D:\Documents\Websites\blah.svn\tmp\entries' to 'D:\ ... .svn\entries': The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. Any thoughts on what would cause this? This usually happens when trying to commit a large number of new files. Sometimes an update fixes it but most of the time I have to delete the offending directory, re-download it, and attempt to add or update it again. EDIT: it seems my pc always wanting to chkdsk as boot is related.

  I'm adding a facebook comment widget to a website. I'm placing this widget in a file that is included on everypage. The navigation is relatively linked so it switches back and forth from http and https. But for some reason the comment widget only shows up if both the src linked file and webpage is secure or both the src linked file and webpage is NOT secure. The widget does not display of the src file is secure and the webpage is not secure. So... • Regex for Searching for Text Not Preceeded By a Specific String

  Hi, I am working on a web site with several other developers and we have had problems where people commit JavaScript code with AJAX calls that use URL's relative to the site root. An example would be /Home/Index which will not work if the site is hosted in a virtual directory. To get round the problem we use a $.url() method to convert it to a full path, e.g. $("#container").load($.url("/Home/Index")) I am trying to write a unit test that will search each JavaScript file and find places where the $.url method is not being used. The only problem is that I cannot seem to write a regex expression to do this. I have tried the following: (?!\$\.url\()"(/\w*)+" But this does not work. I cannot find a way to say that I don't want the $.url in front. Does anyone know if this is possible? Note that I need regular expressions that are compatible with .NET Thanks.

• Actionbar scherlock is not refreshed when the orientation is changed

  I use Sherlock action bar in my application. I used "ifRoom|withText" feature in my menu. If I test my code in portrait mode, I can see only icon and if I rotate orientation to landscape, still I see only icon. On the other hand, if I run with landscape, I can see text and icon on portrait and landscape. This means that When the screen is rotated, action bar is not refreshed. How can I fix? In menu, I have android:showAsAction="ifRoom|withText" Also I used this line in my manifest file to fixed android:configChanges="keyboardHidden|orientation|screenSize" but it didn't work.   I had a crazy thought about writing my own SQL Server driver to make it work something like non-blocking http client, so it won't be thread thirsty and could handle lots of db queries within one thread. I tried to look over google for some guidelines about implementing SQL Server client protocol, but found none really, where do those guys get information about it when they write own implementations for PHP or python? I need a really low level to be documented so I can implement all phases of working with a connection through sockets. And would be really nice to have a an example in c# language. :)

  I'm running Gitolite over the Git repository and I have post-receive hook there written in Python. I need to execute "git" command at git repository directory. There are few lines of code: proc = subprocess.Popen(['git', 'log', '-n1'], cwd='/home/git/repos/testing.git' stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) proc.communicate() After I make new commit and push to repository, scripts executes and says fatal: Not a git repository: '.' If I run proc = subprocess.Popen(['pwd'], cwd='/home/git/repos/testing.git' stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) it says, as expected, correct path to git repository (/home/git/repos/testing.git) If I run this script manually from bash, it works correct and show correct output of "git log". What I'm doing wrong?

• How do I force git to use LF instead of CR+LF under windows?

  I want to force git to checkout files under Windows using just LF not CR+LF. I checked the two configuration options but I was not able to find the right combination of settings. I want it to convert all files to LF and keep the LF on the files. Remark: I used autocrlf = input but this just repairs the files when you commit them. I want to force it to get them using LF. Probably I wasn't so clear: the repository is already using LF but the files checked out using msysgit are using CR+LF and I want to forge msysgit to get them with LF: forcing Unix line endings.

  I have a data base with Price_old like: Date --- Hour --- Price _____________________________ Jan 1 --- 1 --- $3.0 Jan 1 --- 2 --- $3.1 Jan 1 --- 3 --- $3.3 Jan 1 --- 4 --- $3.15 Jan 2 --- 1 --- $2.95 Jan 2 --- 2 --- $3.2 Jan 2 --- 3 --- $3.05 What I then have is a spreadsheet, with the same structure, that I will be reading into a datatable, I'll call the new datatable Price_New, note that price new may not have all the same date/hours as Price_Old So, I end up with 2 datatables, Price_Old, and Price_New, and what I need to do is update Price_old with the new prices in Price_New, and then commit those new prices to the Database. I am kinda new to LINQ (about 30 mins of experience) and would really appreciate if someone could give me a pointer or two on whether or not this is doing in LINQ and what the best method would be.   Somehow, my global git (msysgit) settings for user.name and user.email (and god knows what else) are set to a recent ex-colleague's details. When I try and change them i get could not commit to u://.gitconfig If I try and create u://.gitconfig through git bash then i get permission denied. C:\Users\<My Username>\ contains no references to git. I've tried uninstalling, searching the registry and my file system for all references to git and I can't find any (windows file search is crap though). What the hell is going on? Why even after reinstalling are this guys details still the global settings??? Thanks

• Cannot save model due to bad transaction? Django

  Trying to save a model in Django admin and I keep getting the error: Transaction managed block ended with pending COMMIT/ROLLBACK I tried restarting both the Django (1.2) and PostgreSQL (8.4) processes but nothing changed. I added "autocommit": True to my database settings but that didn't change anything either. Everything that Google has turned up has either not been answered or the answer involved not having records in the users table, which I definitely have. The model does not have a custom save method and there are no pre/post save signals tied to it. Any ideas or anything else I can provide to make answering this easier?

  New to git here... I want to commit my personal file share to a git repo (text, docs, images etc). As I make modifications to various files over time, telling git about them along the way, how do go about things so I can: Get out of the business of traditional fulls/incrementals. Be able to do a point-in-time file or full clone restore. Basically, I want something granular, such that, if I make an edit to a file 5 times on a particular day. I will have 5 versions of that file that I can refer back to- forever. Or even just derive the a full copy of everything the way it looked on that particular day. I am currently using rsync for remote incremental syncs (no file versioning).

• Multithreaded FTP upload. Is it possible?

  I need to upload multiple files from directory to the server via FTP and SFTP. I've solved this task for SFTP with python, paramiko and threading. But I have problem with doing it for FTP. I tried to use ftplib for python, but it seems that it doesn't support threading and I upload all files one by one, which is very slow. I'm wondering is it even possible to do multithreading uploads with FTP protocol without creating separate connections/authorizations (it takes too long)? Solution can be on Python or PHP. Maybe CURL? Would be grateful for any ideas.

This should work like this: The company would use 2-3 jabber accounts like Google Talk for providing support Online chat form that would connect to one of currently online jabber accounts Optionally give one proxy jabber account to the customers. This proxy would contact any of the currently online company accounts. Using this customers will see only one chat contact but they will speak with different people based on who is online at the moment. Currently I found only some expensive solutions like J-livesupport, Akeni. I would really appreciate if you will recommend something you successfully implemented.
