• How do I programmatically set property of control in aspx file ?

  This may be a very dumb question but I can't seem to get it working. I use at many places the following syntax for dynamically binding a property of a control in aspx file to the resource entry, e.g. <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%$ Resources : ResClass, ResEntry %>" /> I want to do a similar thing with a class containing some constants, something like <SomeFunnyControl Text="<%= MyConstantsClass.MyStringConstant %>" /> But this doesn't seem to work, it simply sets the text to the exact expression without evaluating it. I am using ASP.NET 3.5 btw. I have tried the databinding approach but I get an HttpParseException saying Databinding expressions are only supported on objects that have a DataBinding event.

• Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question. • Problem with assembly loading in .NET

  Hi guys, I have got two projects in my solution: Silverlight and standard one. The standard one references System.Xml assembly (version 4.0.0.0), however the Silverlight one references System.Xml assembly (v. 2.0.5.0). I want to make an instance of XmlWriter in my Silverlight project. Here comes the problem - the exception is thrown (file not found for System.Xml assembly). I believe it is a matter of different assembly versions. Do you have any idea how to resolve this issue? Ive read something about the binding redirection - is it the key to the solution? If so, how to do this? Thank you in advance for the reply! Cheers.

• Problem showing selected value of combobox when it is bind to a List<T> using Linq to Entities

  I have a combobox which is has itemtemplate applied on it and is bind to a List of entity return using linq. i m using mvvm. It is bind to it successfully but when i set the selected value of it from code at runtime to show the selected value coming from db it doesn't select it. For reference here is my combobox xaml.   Hi, I have an issue trying to implement cascading comboboxes on Silverlight 3. I have two comboboxes: Product Type Sub Cathegory The user need to select the Product type, and based on his selection, the second combobox must load the sub cathegories. Binding the first combobox is a piece of cake: <ComboBox x:Name="cmbProductType" Margin="11,2,8,5" MaxDropDownHeight="100" Grid.Column="1 /> cmbProductType.ItemsSource = objFactory.ProductTypes; objFactory.Load(objFactory.GetProductTypesQuery()); My issue is trying to load the second combobox based on the first seleccion. • keypress event not being triggered only at start and end of text field in Firefox (JQuery)

  I'm listening for keypress events on an input field with delegation. For some reason, Firefox doesn't trigger the delegated event for cursor UP when at the start of the field, or cursor DOWN when at the end. LEFT and RIGHT work as expected all the time. Directly binding an event listener to the field works fine, so it has to be something to do with delegation.   Getting into Play 2.0, overall, blown away, great stuff. Anyway, wondering how one can achieve DRY forms in Play? If you look at the create & edit examples in the Computer Database Sample, you'll see that the form elements are repeated. With just 4 fields (in the sample form), no big deal, but when you're dealing with large, complex forms and/or handling many CRUD models, the duplication becomes a bigger maintenance issue. On the binding end ( form.bindFromRequest and form.fill(Foo) ), the implementation is so elegant for create/edit operations; is there a corresponding solution in the template layer?

• Is it possible to have a Shared/Static Dependency Property?

  [using VB.NET, but I can easily read C# code in responses] I have a class called QuestionClipboard with ALL shared methods/properties. I previously had a QuesitonClipboard.doesClipboardHaveContent function that returned true/false if there was a Object on my 'clipboard'. I'd prefer to implement a Dependency Property so I can allow this true/false value to participate in data binding. The "GetValue(dp as DependencyProperty)" method requires an object instance, which would mean that my Property CAN'T be shared! Here is what the code would look like in my perfect world... Of course, the word "Shared" before the property declaration renders this code useless. This maps perfectly on array of controller method parameters as described in Model Binding To A List article. I want to add label for checkboxes to title them, but I have to guess their ids in hmtl layout. Options[" + i + "].Selected turns into Options_0__Selected How can I avoid hardcoding Id generation in-built asp.net mvc rules? Thank you advance.

• Win CE 6.0 client using WCF Services - Reduce Bandwidth

  We have a Win CE 6.0 device that is required to consume services that will be provided using WCF. We are attempting to reduce bandwidth usage as much as possible and with a simple test we have found that using UDP instead of HTTP saved significant data usage. I understand there are limitations regarding WCF on .NET Compact Framework 3.5 devices and was curious what people thought would be the appropriate way forward. Would it make sense to develop a custom UDP binding, and would that work for both sides? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

• Style Data in a gridview which dynamically generates the columns

  I have built a dynamic gridview using the following code grdVariants.Columns.Clear(); int i = 0; foreach (DataColumn column in options.Columns) { grdVariants.Columns.Add(new GridViewColumn { Header = column.ColumnName, DisplayMemberBinding = new Binding(string.Format("[{0}]", i++)) }); } This will dynamically generate my columns at runtime, I then bind the data using lstVariantsGrid.DataContext = options; lstVariantsGrid.Items.Refresh(); This all works great and shows the data in the correct columns etc, the only issue i have is that I can't style the rows like I would in xaml as it is all an unknown quantity until runtime. Can anyone offer some advice on how I might go about doing this? One of the biggest problems I have is that one of the columns needs to display the image rather than just the path which it currently shows, as well as fiddling with fonts and colors etc. Thanks for your time.

• Dashcode Web App: How to programmatically manipulate bound array in dataSource?

  Hi Everyone, I've started using Dashcode to write an interface for presenting the report data for some of our Cocoa tools. I am using a Dashcode data source and bindings to populate the elements in the WebView, and it all seems to be working well so far. One of the objects in my dataSource is an array of objects that I would like to manipulate programmatically. I can change the object values in the array just fine but if I want to replace the array, or any objects in the array, my bound table isn't able to observe the added objects. Here is the code that I thought would let me easily replace the bound array with new content: var dataSource = dashcode.getDataSource("reportData"); var newDetailArray = testArray(); dataSource.setValueForKeyPath(newDetailArray, "content.detailArray"); But this throws the exception: Exception while binding "content" to keypath "arrangedObjects " TypeError: Result of expression 'this.object.valueForKeyPath' [undefined] is not a function. Is there something I'm missing that will let me easily manipulate the array's contents programmatically?

  This is probably a dumb question, but I've hit a wall with this one at this current time. I have some data which is hierarchial in nature which is in an ADO.NEt dataset. The first field is the ID, the second is the Name, the third is the Parent ID. ID NAME Parent ID 1 Air Handling NULL 2 Compressor 1 3 Motor 4 4 Compressor 1 5 Motor 2 6 Controller 4 7 Controller 2 So the tree would look like the following: 1- Air Handling 4- Compressor 6 - Controller 3 - Motor 2- Compressor 7- Controller 5 - Motor What I'm trying to figure our is how to get the dataset in the same order that ths would be viewed in a treeview, which in this case is the levels at the appropriate levels for the nodes and then the children at the appropriate levels sorted by the name. It would be like binding this to a treeview and then simply working your way down the nodes to get the right order. Any links or direction would be greatly appreciated.

• What's the cross-browser way to capture all single clicks on a button?

  What's the best way to execute a function exactly once every time a button is clicked, regardless of click speed and browser? Simply binding a "click" handler works perfectly in all browsers except IE. In IE, when the user clicks too fast, only "dblclick" fires, so the "click" handler is never executed. Other browsers trigger both events so it's not a problem for them. The obvious solution/hack (to me at least) is to attach a dblclick handler in IE that triggers my click handler twice. Another idea is to track clicks myself with mousedown/mouseup, which seems pretty primitive and probably belongs in a framework rather than my application. So, what's the best/usual/right way of handling this? (pure javascript or jQuery preferred)

• How to unit test configs

  We're working with some very large config files which contain lots of Unity and WCF configuration. When we open some of these configs in the SVC config editor or even try to open a web application using these configs, we recieve errors showing any typos or errors. E.g. a WCF binding is invalid or does not exist etc, or a configuration section does not exist, two endding tags, etc. Is there some way to "valid" a config through a unit test? So there's one less thing which could go wrong when the application is moved into a new environment.

• WCF - call same service from client and server side

  I have a simple WCF service that I call server side from code behind via a service reference. It's used for validation and works and was automatically setup by Visual Studio and is using SOAP I think because the binding is wsHttpBinding. I want to use the same WCF service, but call it client side from jQuery using ajax(). I'm trying to implement it by way of these instructions. But if I make the changes to get the client side call working, I have to add the decoration below which I think will break what works on the server side and also change the system.serviceModel section in web.config. [WebInvoke(Method = "POST", BodyStyle = WebMessageBodyStyle.Wrapped, ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json, RequestFormat= WebMessageFormat.Json) ] How do I have a WCF service that can be called both from the server-side and client side (jQuery/ajax)?

• WCF SERVICE gives us faulted response

  My service is hosted on IIS7, windows 2008 server with sql server2008 express. I am getting following error when the process takes more than 2 minutes i got this response, i m unable to find out either it is due to sql server time out or wcf time out. my sql server process is also took long. An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://REMOTE/SynchronizationService_test/SyncService.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details.

Here is what I am trying to do, I changed the location of a source control, completely removed it from TFS source control.. but now it is showing up wanting to add it.. And the other issue I'm having is.. when I try to Map the new project, it is giving this error.. thing is, I've completely deleted the files off my local PC, and I'm wanting to map and get latest version from source control, but giving error trying to map, rather not change the location, how do I remove the old binding and the project, when it was already deleted using TfsDeleteProject.exe
