  • Workaround for Outlook 2007 for wrapping text around image with margin?

    As we all know, Outlook 2007 uses the Word 2007 rendering engine, causing endless grief when designing HTML email message. [Insert rant here] In particular, float, margin, and padding are - shall we say? - poorly supported. To simulate float so that text wraps around an image, apparently we can simply use: <img src="foo.png" align="right"> The issue is padding/margin. Without padding/margin, the wrapped text butts up against the image which looks goofy. One workaround is to edit the image and add transparent framing that simulates margin. Does anyone know any other workarounds?

  • Implementing a 'Send Feedback' feature in a Java desktop application

    I would like to implement a 'Send Feedback' option in a Java desktop application. One which will pop up a box for the user to enter a comment, then send it to us along with a screenshot of the application window. How would be the best way to communicate the data to us? Two obvious solutions spring to mind: Email - I'm thinking that the application would connect to an SMTP server set-up by us, with the username/password somehow hidden in the code. SMTP over SSL for security (not of the data being sent, but of the SMTP username/password). Web service - pretty self explanatory. Which of these would be best, or is there a better alternative?

  • mysql filtering result using left outer join

    my query: SELECT content.*, activity_log.content_id FROM content LEFT JOIN activity_log ON content.id = activity_log.content_id AND sess_id = '$sess_id' WHERE activity_log.content_id IS NULL AND visibility = $visibility AND content.reported < ".REPORTED_LIMIT." AND content.file_ready = 1 LIMIT 1 The purpose of that query is to get 1 row from the content table that has not been viewed by the user (identified by session_id), but it still returns contents that have been viewed. What is wrong? ( I have checked the table making sure that the content_ids are there) Note: I think this is more efficient than using subqueries, thoughts?

  • Detach subdirectory into separate Git repository

    I have a Git repository which contains a number of subdirectories. Now I have found that one of the subdirectories is unrelated to the other and should be detached to a separate repository. How can I do this while keeping the history of the files within the subdirectory? I guess I could make a clone and remove the unwanted parts of each clone, but I suppose this would give me the complete tree when checking out an older revision etc. This might be acceptable, but I would prefer to be able to pretend that the two repositories doesn't have a shared history. Just to make it clear, I have the following structure: XYZ/ .git/ XY1/ ABC/ XY2/ But I would like this instead: XYZ/ .git/ XY1/ XY2/ ABC/ .git/

  • Newlines not being interpreted when passed to php via the command line

    I have a PHP script that I'm invoking from another shell script that sends an automated email with a message generated from the shell script. Problem is, when I send the message all the newline characters are printed into the message. How do I get them to be interpreted? sendmail.sh: /path/to/phpscript/sendmail.php "Some Message With Newlines\nHello World.\n" sendmail.php: $message = $argv[1] . "\nNewline"; $smtp->send($to, $from, $message); The odd thing is the \n after the $argv variable is interpreted and actually prints Newline on a new line, but the newlines in the $argv variable don't, I have tried wrapping the variable in double quotes among other things but so far to no avail.

    One table in my MySQL database tracks game plays. It has the following structure: SCENARIO_VICTORIES [ID] [scenario_id] [game] [timestamp] [user_id] [winning_side] [play_date] ID is the autoincremented primary key. timestamp records the moment of submission for the record. winning_side has one of three possible values: 1, 2, or 0 (meaning a draw) One of the queries done on this table calculates the victory percentage for each scenario, when that scenario's page is viewed. The output is expressed as: Side 1 win % Side 2 win % Draw % and queried with: SELECT winning_side, COUNT(scenario_id) FROM scenario_victories WHERE scenario_id='$scenID' GROUP BY winning_side ORDER BY winning_side ASC and then processed into the percentages and such. Sorry for the long setup. My problem is this: several of my users play each other, and record their mutual results. So these battles are being doubly represented in the victory percentages and result counts. Though this happens infrequently, the userbase isn't large and the double entries do have a noticeable effect on the data. Given the table and query above - does anyone have any suggestions for how I can "collapse" records that have the same play_date & game & scenario_id & winning_side so that they're only counted once?

We're using auto-responders to deliver key information to people who complete a form asking for additional information. The goal is to reject forms that are submitted by competitors.     I'm trying to have an accurate Unix timestamp values for: today, this week, this month, this year There are a few snags however: - Today should be everything since last midnight - This week should start on the last/this monday - This month (should know if its 30/31 days or 28/29 days feb) - This should be the very beginning of the current year up til now I want to do this without mysql at all, purely in php as I need it as an accurate Unix timestamp to assign to a variable.   • Automatic User Authentication Framework for Controllers in ASP.NET MVC?

    In rails I could do something like this to make sure a user is authenticated before accessing an action in the controller: before_filter :checked_logged_in, :only => [:edit, :update] I was wondering if ASP.NET MVC had something similar or if there was a framework out there that could essentially do something like the following: For certain methods with actions that take a certain parameter, I want to point the action to a method, check to see if the user owns that object, and if so, proceed to the controller action. If not, I want to redirect him to another action where I can show him he has invalid credentials. So basically I am looking for a sort of "before_filter." Anyone know of anything out there that can do this? Thanks!

I have two different webistes both with their own dedicted ip address. sitea.com = xx.xx.xx.43 siteb.com = xx.xx.xx.44 Im using hmailserver to host our emails and have the smtp bound to the ip address of xx.xx.xx.42 im aware that i can set up a spf record to state that the what servers emails can be sent from v=spf1 mx ip4:xx.xx.xx.43 mx:mail.sitea.com ip4:xx.xx.xx.42 -all Would the fact that email are not sent from the sites ip's be causing them to be flagged as junk.   • finding links that are hyper-links in jQuery

    Im trying to take a link either when clicked or hover over be able to grab the attribute href and tell if its a hyper-link or not. Also i want it to be able to tell me if its a hyper-link to my own site. Plus various other filters. The main purpose for this is so that when a internal link is clicked it will tell ajax to grab the content, alot of my links are generated (via wordpress)so I can't modify them too much. Another purpose for this is so i can also make all external links open on a new window. I have a solution that works on a simple test page but when i put into a working page it breaks. I know i am probably making this harder then it should be.   • A couple problems re: CodeIgniter emailer

    I have some problems with the email system for CodeIgniter: First, the emails I send out (registration, confirmations) are getting caught in standard spam filters in gmail and other mail clients. How do I get around this? How do companies like Facebook get their emails through consistently? Second, the mailer is working locally but once we deploy it it no longer runs (doesn't send emails) but all the other forms run just fine. Anyone ever run into a problem like this?   • Postfix Bounced Emails With Google Apps

    So our company uses Google Apps to handle our accounts for our employees. Meaning something like [email protected] would go to Google Apps. We also use postfix on our server to send out our news letter emails to our users. We've setup our emails to have a unique return-path which is basically [email protected] problem is that when postfix gets a bounce during the SMTP connection, it actually sends out the email to Google Apps. Is there anyway that we can setup Postfix to not send to [email protected] and instead pipe that message to a script which we can grab the original message and log the bounced address? I realize this only partially works as some emails may send correctly from postfix and then bounce down the road somewhere, but this should help us out with a good portion of our bounces. For a start, in main.cf we have recipient_delimiter = + and in master.cf we have bouncehandler unix - n n - - pipe user=nobody argv=/path/to/bounce_handler.php ${recipient} Not really sure where to go from here though.

    Hi, I am having trouble implementing mipmapping in OpenGL. I am using OpenFrameworks and have modified the ofTexture class to support the creation and rendering of mipmaps. However, I do not see any difference. The scene I render consists of "flat, square tiles" at z=0. It's basically a 2D scene. I zoom in and out by using "glScale()" before drawing the tiles. When I zoom out, the pixels of the tile textures start to "dance", indicating (as far as I can tell) unfiltered texture look-up. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_As2Np3m8A at 25s. My question is: since I do not move the camera position, but only use scaling of the whole scene, does this mean OpenGL can not decide on the appropriate mipmap level and uses the full texture size (level 0)?   • Library for Dataflow in C

    How can I do dataflow (pipes and filters, stream processing, flow based) in C? And not with UNIX pipes. I recently came across stream.py. Streams are iterables with a pipelining mechanism to enable data-flow programming and easy parallelization. The idea is to take the output of a function that turns an iterable into another iterable and plug that as the input of another such function. While you can already do this using function composition, this package provides an elegant notation for it by overloading the operator. I would like to duplicate a simple version of this kind of functionality in C. I particularly like the overloading of the operator to avoid function composition mess. Wikipedia points to this hint from a Usenet post in 1990. Why C? Because I would like to be able to do this on microcontrollers and in C extensions for other high level languages (Max, Pd*, Python). * (ironic given that Max and Pd were written, in C, specifically for this purpose – I'm looking for something barebones)
