  • SQL SERVER – Weekly Series – Memory Lane – #003

    - by pinaldave
Here is the list of curetted articles of SQLAuthority.com across all these years. Instead of just listing all the articles I have selected a few of my most favorite articles and have listed them here with additional notes below it. Let me know which one of the following is your favorite article from memory lane. 2006 This was the first year of my blogging and lots of new things I was learning as I go. I was indeed an infant in blogging a few years ago. However, as time passed by I have learned a lot. This year was year of experiments and new learning. 2007 Working as a full time DBA I often encoutered various errors and I started to learn how to avoid those error and document the same. ERROR Msg 5174 Each file size must be greater than or equal to 512 KB Whenever I see this error I wonder why someone is trying to attempt a database which is extremely small. Anyway, it does not matter what I think I keep on seeing this error often in industries. Anyway the solution of the error is equally interesting – just created larger database. Dilbert Humor This was very first encounter with database humor and I started to love it. It does not matter how many time we read this cartoon it does not get old. Generate Script with Data from Database – Database Publishing Wizard Generating schema script with data is one of the most frequently performed tasks among SQL Server Data Professionals. There are many ways to do the same. In the above article I demonstrated that how we can use the Database Publishing Wizard to accomplish the same. It was new to me at that time but I have not seen much of the adoption of the same still in the industry. Here is one of my videos where I demonstrate how we can generate data with schema. 2008 Delete Backup History – Cleanup Backup History Deleting backup history is important too but should be done carefully. If this is not carried out at regular interval there is good chance that MSDB will be filled up with all the old history. Every organization is different. Some would like to keep the history for 30 days and some for a year but there should be some limit. One should regularly archive the database backup history. South Asia MVP Open Days 2008 This was my very first year Microsoft MVP. I had Indeed big blast at the event and the fun was incredible. After this event I have attended many different MVP events but the fun and learning this particular event presented was amazing and just like me many others are not able to forget the same. Here are other links related to the event: South Asia MVP Open Day 2008 – Goa South Asia MVP Open Day 2008 – Goa – Day 1 South Asia MVP Open Day 2008 – Goa – Day 2 South Asia MVP Open Day 2008 – Goa – Day 3 2009 Enable or Disable Constraint  This is very simple script but I personally keep on forgetting it so I had blogged it. Till today, I keep on referencing this again and again as sometime a very little thing is hard to remember. Policy Based Management – Create, Evaluate and Fix Policies This article will cover the most spectacular feature of SQL 2008 – Policy-based management and how the configuration of SQL Server with policy-based management architecture can make a powerful difference. Policy based management is loaded with several advantages. It can help you implement various policies for reliable configuration of the system. It also provides additional administrative assistance to DBAs and helps them effortlessly manage various tasks of SQL Server across the enterprise. SQLPASS 2009 – My Very First SQPASS Experience Just Brilliant! I never had an experience such a thing in my life. SQL SQL and SQL – all around SQL! I am listing my own reasons here in order of importance to me. Networking with SQL fellows and experts Putting face to the name or avatar Learning and improving my SQL skills Understanding the structure of the largest SQL Server Professional Association Attending my favorite training sessions Since last time I have never missed a single time this event. This event is my favorite event and something keeps me going. Here are additional post related SQLPASS 2009. SQL PASS Summit, Seattle 2009 – Day 1 SQL PASS Summit, Seattle 2009 – Day 2 SQL PASS Summit, Seattle 2009 – Day 3 SQL PASS Summit, Seattle 2009 – Day 4 2010 Get All the Information of Database using sys.databases Even though we believe that we know everything about our database, we do not know a lot of things about our database. This little script enables us to know so many details about databases which we may not be familiar with. Run this on your server today and see how much you know your database. Reducing CXPACKET Wait Stats for High Transactional Database While engaging in a performance tuning consultation for a client, a situation occurred where they were facing a lot of CXPACKET Waits Stats. The client asked me if I could help them reduce this huge number of wait stats. I usually receive this kind of request from other client as well, but the important thing to understand is whether this question has any merits or benefits, or not. I discusses the same in this article – a bit long but insightful for sure. Error related to Database in Use There are so many database management operations in SQL Server which requires exclusive access to the database and it is not always possible to get it. When any database is online in SQL Server it either applications or system thread often accesses them. This means database can’t have exclusive access and the operations which required this access throws an error. There is very easy method to overcome this minor issue – a single line script can give you exclusive access to the database. Difference between DATETIME and DATETIME2 Developers have found the root reason of the problem when dealing with Date Functions – when data time values are converted (implicit or explicit) between different data types, which would lose some precision, so the result cannot match each other as expected. In this blog post I go over very interesting details and difference between DATETIME and DATETIME2 History of SQL Server Database Encryption I recently met Michael Coles and Rodeney Landrum the author of one of the kind book Expert SQL Server 2008 Encryption at SQLPASS in Seattle. During the conversation we ended up how Microsoft is evolving encryption technology. The same discussion lead to talking about history of encryption tools in SQL Server. Michale pointed me to page 18 of his book of encryption. He explicitly gave me permission to re-produce relevant part of history from his book. 2011 Functions FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE with OVER clause and ORDER BY Some time an interesting feature and smart audience make a total difference in places. From last two days, I have been writing on SQL Server 2012 feature FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE. I created a puzzle which was very interesting and got many people attempt to resolve it. It was based on following two articles: Introduction to FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE Introduction to FIRST_VALUE and LAST_VALUE with OVER clause I even provided the hint about how one can solve this problem. The best part was many people solved the problem without using hints! Try your luck!  A Real Story of Book Getting ‘Out of Stock’ to A 25% Discount Story Available This is a great problem and everybody would love to have it. We had it and we loved it. Our book got out of stock in 48 hours of releasing and stocks were empty. We faced many issues and learned many valuable lessons. Some we were able to avoid in the future and some we are still facing it as those problems have no solutions. However, since that day – our books never gone out of stock. This inspiring learning story for us and I am confident that you will love to read it as well. Introduction to LEAD and LAG – Analytic Functions Introduced in SQL Server 2012 SQL Server 2012 introduces new analytical function LEAD() and LAG(). This function accesses data from a subsequent row (for lead) and previous row (for lag) in the same result set without the use of a self-join . It will be very difficult to explain this in words so I will attempt small example to explain you this function. I had a fantastic time writing this blog post and I am very confident when you read it, you will like the same. • How to stop a QDialog from executing while still in the __init__ statement(or immediatly after)?

    - by Jonathan
I am wondering how I can go about stopping a dialog from opening if certain conditions are met in its __init__ statement. The following code tries to call the 'self.close()' function and it does, but (I'm assuming) since the dialog has not yet started its event loop, that it doesn't trigger the close event? So is there another way to close and/or stop the dialog from opening without triggering an event? Example code: from PyQt4 import QtCore, QtGui class dlg_closeInit(QtGui.QDialog): ''' Close the dialog if a certain condition is met in the __init__ statement ''' def __init__(self): QtGui.QDialog.__init__(self) self.txt_mytext = QtGui.QLineEdit('some text') self.btn_accept = QtGui.QPushButton('Accept') self.myLayout = QtGui.QVBoxLayout(self) self.myLayout.addWidget(self.txt_mytext) self.myLayout.addWidget(self.btn_accept) self.setLayout(self.myLayout) # Connect the button self.connect(self.btn_accept,QtCore.SIGNAL('clicked()'), self.on_accept) self.close() def on_accept(self): # Get the data... self.mydata = self.txt_mytext.text() self.accept() def get_data(self): return self.mydata def closeEvent(self, event): print 'Closing...' if __name__ == '__main__': import sys app = QtGui.QApplication(sys.argv) dialog = dlg_closeInit() if dialog.exec_(): print dialog.get_data() else: print "Failed"

  • HPET for x86 BSP (how to build it for WCE8)

    - by Werner Willemsens
Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/WernerWillemsens/archive/2014/08/02/157895.aspx"I needed a timer". That is how we started a few blogs ago our series about APIC and ACPI. Well, here it is. HPET (High Precision Event Timer) was introduced by Intel in early 2000 to: Replace old style Intel 8253 (1981!) and 8254 timers Support more accurate timers that could be used for multimedia purposes. Hence Microsoft and Intel sometimes refers to HPET as Multimedia timers. An HPET chip consists of a 64-bit up-counter (main counter) counting at a frequency of at least 10 MHz, and a set of (at least three, up to 256) comparators. These comparators are 32- or 64-bit wide. The HPET is discoverable via ACPI. The HPET circuit in recent Intel platforms is integrated into the SouthBridge chip (e.g. 82801) All HPET timers should support one-shot interrupt programming, while optionally they can support periodic interrupts. In most Intel SouthBridges I worked with, there are three HPET timers. TIMER0 supports both one-shot and periodic mode, while TIMER1 and TIMER2 are one-shot only. Each HPET timer can generate interrupts, both in old-style PIC mode and in APIC mode. However in PIC mode, interrupts cannot freely be chosen. Typically IRQ11 is available and cannot be shared with any other interrupt! Which makes the HPET in PIC mode virtually unusable. In APIC mode however more IRQs are available and can be shared with other interrupt generating devices. (Check the datasheet of your SouthBridge) Because of this higher level of freedom, I created the APIC BSP (see previous posts). The HPET driver code that I present you here uses this APIC mode. Hpet.reg [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Hpet] "Dll"="Hpet.dll" "Prefix"="HPT" "Order"=dword:10 "IsrDll"="giisr.dll" "IsrHandler"="ISRHandler" "Priority256"=dword:50 Because HPET does not reside on the PCI bus, but can be found through ACPI as a memory mapped device, you don't need to specify the "Class", "SubClass", "ProgIF" and other PCI related registry keys that you typically find for PCI devices. If a driver needs to run its internal thread(s) at a certain priority level, by convention in Windows CE you add the "Priority256" registry key. Through this key you can easily play with the driver's thread priority for better response and timer accuracy. See later. Hpet.cpp (Hpet.dll) This cpp file contains the complete HPET driver code. The file is part of a folder that you typically integrate in your BSP (\src\drivers\Hpet). It is written as sample (example) code, you most likely want to change this code to your specific needs. There are two sets of #define's that I use to control how the driver works. _TRIGGER_EVENT or _TRIGGER_SEMAPHORE: _TRIGGER_EVENT will let your driver trigger a Windows CE Event when the timer expires, _TRIGGER_SEMAPHORE will trigger a Windows CE counting Semaphore. The latter guarantees that no events get lost in case your application cannot always process the triggers fast enough. _TIMER0 or _TIMER2: both timers will trigger an event or semaphore periodically. _TIMER0 will use a periodic HPET timer interrupt, while _TIMER2 will reprogram a one-shot HPET timer after each interrupt. The one-shot approach is interesting if the frequency you wish to generate is not an even multiple of the HPET main counter frequency. The sample code uses an algorithm to generate a more correct frequency over a longer period (by reducing rounding errors). _TIMER1 is not used in the sample source code. HPT_Init() will locate the HPET I/O memory space, setup the HPET counter (_TIMER0 or _TIMER2) and install the Interrupt Service Thread (IST). Upon timer expiration, the IST will run and on its turn will generate a Windows CE Event or Semaphore. In case of _TIMER2 a new one-shot comparator value is calculated and set for the timer. The IRQ of the HPET timers are programmed to IRQ22, but you can choose typically from 20-23. The TIMERn_INT_ROUT_CAP bits in the TIMn_CONF register will tell you what IRQs you can choose from. HPT_IOControl() can be used to set a new HPET counter frequency (actually you configure the counter timeout value in microseconds), start and stop the timer, and request the current HPET counter value. The latter is interesting because the Windows CE QueryPerformanceCounter() and QueryPerformanceFrequency() APIs implement the same functionality, albeit based on other counter implementations. HpetDrvIst() contains the IST code. DWORD WINAPI HpetDrvIst(LPVOID lpArg) { psHpetDeviceContext pHwContext = (psHpetDeviceContext)lpArg; DWORD mainCount = READDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, GenCapIDReg + 4); // Main Counter Tick period (fempto sec 10E-15) DWORD i = 0; while (1) { WaitForSingleObject(pHwContext->g_isrEvent, INFINITE); #if defined(_TRIGGER_SEMAPHORE) LONG p = 0; BOOL b = ReleaseSemaphore(pHwContext->g_triggerEvent, 1, &p); #elif defined(_TRIGGER_EVENT) BOOL b = SetEvent(pHwContext->g_triggerEvent); #else #pragma error("Unknown TRIGGER") #endif #if defined(_TIMER0) DWORD currentCount = READDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, MainCounterReg); DWORD comparator = READDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, Tim0_ComparatorReg + 0); SETBIT(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, GenIntStaReg, 0); // clear interrupt on HPET level InterruptDone(pHwContext->g_sysIntr); // clear interrupt on OS level _LOGMSG(ZONE_INTERRUPT, (L"%s: HpetDrvIst 0 %06d %08X %08X", pHwContext->g_id, i++, currentCount, comparator)); #elif defined(_TIMER2) DWORD currentCount = READDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, MainCounterReg); DWORD previousComparator = READDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, Tim2_ComparatorReg + 0); pHwContext->g_counter2.QuadPart += pHwContext->g_comparator.QuadPart; // increment virtual counter (higher accuracy) DWORD comparator = (DWORD)(pHwContext->g_counter2.QuadPart >> 8); // "round" to real value WRITEDWORD(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, Tim2_ComparatorReg + 0, comparator); SETBIT(pHwContext->g_hpet_va, GenIntStaReg, 2); // clear interrupt on HPET level InterruptDone(pHwContext->g_sysIntr); // clear interrupt on OS level _LOGMSG(ZONE_INTERRUPT, (L"%s: HpetDrvIst 2 %06d %08X %08X (%08X)", pHwContext->g_id, i++, currentCount, comparator, comparator - previousComparator)); #else #pragma error("Unknown TIMER") #endif } return 1; } The following figure shows how the HPET hardware interrupt via ISR -> IST is translated in a Windows CE Event or Semaphore by the HPET driver. The Event or Semaphore can be used to trigger a Windows CE application. HpetTest.cpp (HpetTest.exe)This cpp file contains sample source how to use the HPET driver from an application. The file is part of a separate (smart device) VS2013 solution. It contains code to measure the generated Event/Semaphore times by means of GetSystemTime() and QueryPerformanceCounter() and QueryPerformanceFrequency() APIs. HPET evaluation If you scan the internet about HPET, you'll find many remarks about buggy HPET implementations and bad performance. Unfortunately that is true. I tested the HPET driver on an Intel ICH7M SBC (release date 2008). When a HPET timer expires on the ICH7M, an interrupt indeed is generated, but right after you clear the interrupt, a few more unwanted interrupts (too soon!) occur as well. I tested and debugged it for a loooong time, but I couldn't get it to work. I concluded ICH7M's HPET is buggy Intel hardware. I tested the HPET driver successfully on a more recent NM10 SBC (release date 2013). With the NM10 chipset however, I am not fully convinced about the timer's frequency accuracy. In the long run - on average - all is fine, but occasionally I experienced upto 20 microseconds delays (which were immediately compensated on the next interrupt). Of course, this was all measured by software, but I still experienced the occasional delay when both the HPET driver IST thread as the application thread ran at CeSetThreadPriority(1). If it is not the hardware, only the kernel can cause this delay. But Windows CE is an RTOS and I have never experienced such long delays with previous versions of Windows CE. I tested and developed this on WCE8, I am not heavily experienced with it yet. Internet forum threads however mention inaccurate HPET timer implementations as well. At this moment I haven't figured out what is going on here. • Django Managers

    - by owca
I have the following models code : from django.db import models from categories.models import Category class MusicManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(MusicManager, self).get_query_set().filter(category='Music') def count_music(self): return self.all().count() class SportManager(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return super(MusicManager, self).get_query_set().filter(category='Sport') class Event(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=120) category = models.ForeignKey(Category) objects = models.Manager() music = MusicManager() sport = SportManager() Now by registering MusicManager() and SportManager() I am able to call Event.music.all() and Event.sport.all() queries. But how can I create Event.music.count() ? Should I call self.all() in count_music() function of MusicManager to query only on elements with 'Music' category or do I still need to filter through them in search for category first ?

  • jQuery sequence and function call problem

    - by Jonas
Hi everyone, I'm very new to jquery and programming in general but I'm still trying to achieve something here. I use Fullcalendar to allow the users of my web application to insert an event in the database. The click on a day, view changes to agendaDay, then on a time of the day, and a dialog popup opens with a form. I am trying to combine validate (pre-jquery.1.4), jquery.form to post the form without page refresh The script calendar.php, included in several pages, defines the fullcalendar object and displays it in a div: $(document).ready(function() { function EventLoad() { $("#addEvent").validate({ rules: { calendar_title: "required", calendar_url: { required: false, maxlength: 100, url: true } }, messages: { calendar_title: "Title required", calendar_url: "Invalid URL format" }, success: function() { $('#addEvent').submit(function() { var options = { success: function() { $('#eventDialog').dialog('close'); $('#calendar').fullCalendar( 'refetchEvents' ); } }; // submit the form $(this).ajaxSubmit(options); // return false to prevent normal browser submit and page navigation return false; }); } }); } $('#calendar').fullCalendar({ header: { left: 'prev, next today', center: 'title', right: 'month, agendaWeek, agendaDay' }, theme: true, firstDay: 1, editable: false, events: "json-events.php?list=1&<?php echo $events_list; ?>", <?php if($_GET['page'] == 'home') echo "defaultView: 'agendaWeek',"; ?> eventClick: function(event) { if (event.url) { window.open(event.url); return false; } }, dayClick: function(date, allDay, jsEvent, view) { if (view.name == 'month') { $('#calendar').fullCalendar( 'changeView', 'agendaDay').fullCalendar( 'gotoDate', date ); }else{ if(allDay) { var timeStamp = $.fullCalendar.formatDate( date, 'dddd+dd+MMMM_u'); var $eventDialog = $('<div/>').load("json-events.php?<?php echo $events_list; ?>&new=1&all_day=1&timestamp=" + timeStamp, null, EventLoad).dialog({autoOpen:false, draggable: false, width: 675, modal:true, position:['center',202], resizable: false, title:'Add an Event'}); $eventDialog.dialog('open').attr('id','eventDialog'); } else { var timeStamp = $.fullCalendar.formatDate( date, 'dddd+dd+MMMM_u'); var $eventDialog = $('<div/>').load("json-events.php?<?php echo $events_list; ?>&new=1&all_day=0&timestamp=" + timeStamp, null, EventLoad).dialog({autoOpen:false, draggable: false, width: 675, modal:true, position:['center',202], resizable: false, title:'Add an Event'}); $eventDialog.dialog('open').attr('id','eventDialog');; } } } }); }); The script json-events.php contains the form and also the code to process the data from the submitted form. What happens when I test the whole thing: - first user click on a day, then time of day. Popup opens with time and date indicated on the form. When user submits the form, dialog closes and calendar refreshes its events.... and the event added by the user appears several times (from 4 to up to 11 times!). The form has been processed several times by the receiving php script?! - second user click, the popup opens, user submit empty form. Form is submitted (validate function not triggered) and user redirected to empty page json-events.php (ajaxForm not triggered either) Obviously, my code is wrong (and dirty as well, sorry). Why is the submitted form, submitted several time to receiving script and why is the javascript function EventLoad triggered only once ? Thank you very much for you help. This problem is killing me !

  • How to prevent MDI main form closing from MDI Child.

    - by Rekreativc
Hello! I have a MDI main form. On it I host a form, and I want it to show a message box before it closes (asking the user whether to save changes). So far so good, however I have discovered that closing the MDI main form does not raise a MDI child FormClosing event. I figured I will just call MdiChild.Close() in the MDI main's FormClosing event (which does get raised). This seams to work, however it does causes a problem... In the messagebox that I show, I offer the user to save changes, not to save changes and cancel closing. Normally this works fine, however I can't seem to find a way to cancel MDI main's FormClosing event. Is there a elegant way of doing this? EDIT: I solved this by throwing an exception (when user decides to cancel the closing procedure) which is caught in MDI main's FormClosing event. In this way I know when I have to cancel the MDI main's FormClosing event and this seams to work fine ... However I just can't believe that this "hax" is the only way of doing this. Surely there is a better way?

  • jquery click on anchor element forces scroll to top?

    - by Dan.StackOverflow
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/720970/jquery-hyperlinks-href-value[link text][1] I am running in to a problem using jquery and a click event attached to an anchor element. [1]: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/720970/jquery-hyperlinks-href-value "This" SO question seems to be a duplicate, and the accepted answer doesn't seem to solve the problem. Sorry if this is bad SO etiquette. In my .ready() function I have: jQuery("#id_of_anchor").click(function(event) { //start function when any update link is clicked Function_that_does_ajax(); }); and my anchor looks like this: <a href="#" id="id_of_anchor"> link text </a> but when the link is clicked, the ajax function is performed as desired, but the browser scrolls to the top of the page. not good. I've tried adding: event.preventDefault(); before calling my function that does the ajax, but that doesn't help. What am I missing? Clarification I've used every combination of return false; event.preventDefault(); event.stopPropagation(); before and after my call to my js ajax function. It still scrolls to the top.

  • Porting Windows socket program to Unix: Alternative for winsock32 APIs in unix

    - by Amita
In Socket Programming, how will a Unix thread receive a Socket CLOSE event from a client if connection is closed? Are there any API's which will notify the unix thread about the CLOSE event received? As in Windows we have WSAEnumNetworkEvents API which gets the event notification for a specified socket descriptor. What will be the equivalent API used in the Unix socket programing? Please provide the help for the query.

  • Switch-Case for strings in Javascript not working as expected

    - by Coltin
So I have this problem with strings and switch-case, and I'll try to keep it as simple as possible. Here event.keyCode has the value "65", and is the result of a keydown event of 'a' (using JQuery). if (event.keyCode == "65") { alert("hmmmm"); } That works, but: switch (event.keyCode) { case '65': alert("Yay!"); break; } That doesn't. However this will work: switch ('65') { case '65': alert("Yay!"); break; } And if I do this: var t = '65'; switch (t) { case '65': alert("Yay!"); break; } It works. And then I tried this: var t = event.keyCode; switch (t) { case '65': alert("Yay!"); break; } But it fails! So why does it match in the if-block at the beginning, but not for the switch-case?

  • MySQL select using datetime, group by date only

    - by Matt
Is is possible to select a datetime field from a MySQL table and group by the date only? I'm trying to output a list of events that happen at multiple times, grouped by the date it happened on. My table/data looks like this: (the timestamp is a datetime field) 1. 2010-03-21 18:00:00 Event1 2. 2010-03-21 18:30:00 Event2 3. 2010-03-30 13:00:00 Event3 4. 2010-03-30 14:00:00 Event4 I want to output something like this: March 21st 1800 - Event 1 1830 - Event 2 March 30th 1300 - Event 3 1400 - Event 4 Thanks!

  • Base class -> Derived class and vice-versa conversions in C++

    - by Ivan Nikolaev
Hi! I have the following example code: #include <iostream> #include <string> using namespace std; class Event { public: string type; string source; }; class KeyEvent : public Event { public: string key; string modifier; }; class MouseEvent : public Event { public: string button; int x; int y; }; void handleEvent(KeyEvent e) { if(e.key == "ENTER") cout << "Hello world! The Enter key was pressed ;)" << endl; } Event generateEvent() { KeyEvent e; e.type = "KEYBOARD_EVENT"; e.source = "Keyboard0"; e.key = "SPACEBAR"; e.modifier = "none"; return e; } int main() { KeyEvent e = generateEvent(); return 0; } I can't compile it, G++ throws an error of kind: main.cpp: In function 'int main()': main.cpp:47:29: error: conversion from 'Event' to non-scalar type 'KeyEvent' requested I know that the error is obvious for C++ guru's, but I can't understand why I can't do the conversion from base class object to derived one. Can someone suggest me the solution of the problem that I have? Thx in advice

Good day everyone. I am currently working with a hierarchical tree structure in AS3/Flex, and want to enable drag and drop capabilities under certain conditions: Only parent/top level nodes can be moved Parent/top level nodes must remain at this level; they can not be moved to child nodes of other parent nodes Using the dragEnter event of the tree, I am able to handle condition 1 easily. private function onDragEnter(event:DragEvent):void { // only parent nodes (map layers) are moveable event.preventDefault(); if(toc.selectedItem.hasOwnProperty("layer")) DragManager.acceptDragDrop(event.target as UIComponent); else DragManager.showFeedback(DragManager.NONE); } Handling the second condition is proving to be a bit more difficult. I am pretty sure the dragOver event is the place for logic. I have been experimenting with calculateDropIndex, but that always gives me the index of the parent node, which doesn't help check if the potential drop location is acceptable or not. Below is some pseudo code of what I am looking to accomplish. private function onDragOver(e:DragEvent):void { // if potential drop location has parents // dont allow drop // else // allow drop } Can anyone provide advice how to implement this?

  • .NET EventHandlers - Generic or no?

    - by Chris Marasti-Georg
Every time I start in deep in a C# project, I end up with lots of events that really just need to pass a single item. I stick with the EventHandler/EventArgs practice, but what I like to do is have something like: public delegate void EventHandler<T>(object src, EventArgs<T> args); public class EventArgs<T>: EventArgs { private T item; public EventArgs(T item) { this.item = item; } public T Item { get { return item; } } } Later, I can have my public event EventHandler<Foo> FooChanged; public event EventHandler<Bar> BarChanged; However, it seems that the standard for .NET is to create a new delegate and EventArgs subclass for each type of event. Is there something wrong with my generic approach? EDIT: The reason for this post is that I just re-created this in a new project, and wanted to make sure it was ok. Actually, I was re-creating it as I posted. I found that there is a generic EventHandler<TEventArgs, so you don't need to create the generic delegate, but you still need the generic EventArgs<T class, because TEventArgs: EventArgs. Another EDIT: One downside (to me) of the built-in solution is the extra verbosity: public event EventHandler<EventArgs<Foo>> FooChanged; vs. public event EventHandler<Foo> FooChanged; It can be a pain for clients to register for your events though, because the System namespace is imported by default, so they have to manually seek out your namespace, even with a fancy tool like Resharper... Anyone have any ideas pertaining to that?

  • Checking to see if a generic class is inherited from an interface

    - by SnOrfus
I've got a class that inherits from an interface. That interface defines an event that I'd like to subscribe to in the calling code. I've tried a couple of things, but they all resolve to false (where I know it's true). How can I check to see if a class implements a specific interface. Here's what I've tried (note, the object in question is a usercontrol that implements MyInterface, stored in an array of controls, only some of which implement MyInterface - it is not null): if (this.controls[index].GetType().IsSubclassOf(typeof(MyInterface))) ((MyInterface)this.controls[index]).Event += this.Handler; if (this.controls[index].GetType().IsAssignableFrom(typeof(MyInterface))) ((MyInterface)this.controls[index]).Event += this.Handler; if (this.controls[index].GetType() == typeof(MyInterface)) ((MyInterface)this.controls[index]).Event += this.Handler; All to no avail.

  • Using jQuery, setting Draggable on an element prevents blur from firing when you click the draggable

    - by Danno
    Using jQuery, when you set a blur event on a text box and set another element as draggable, when you click the draggable element, the blur event does not fire in FireFox. IE is a little better, you get the blur event but you don't get the click event on the draggable element. If you don't specify the cancel: "" in the draggable constructor, you will get the blur event to fire, but then the element you want to drag is not draggable. jQuery v1.3.2 jQuery UI v1.7.2 The console.log lines are for FireFox's FireBug plugin. <HTML> <HEAD> <TITLE>Blur/Click Workbench</TITLE> <script src="js/jquery.js" type="text/javascript" ></script> <script src="js/ui/ui.core.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="js/ui/ui.draggable.js" type="text/javascript"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> function blurring() { console.log('1 - blurring - ' + $( this ).attr('id')); } function clicking() { console.log('2 - clicking - ' + $( this ).attr('id')); } $(document).ready(function() { $( ".draggableTool" ).draggable( { cancel: "" } ); $( '.property' ).blur( blurring ); $( '#labelContainer' ).click( clicking ); }); </script> </HEAD> <BODY> <input type='text' class='property' id='tb1' /> <br /> <input type='text' class='property' id='tb2' /> <br /> <label class='draggableTool' id='labelContainer' style='height:20px;position:absolute;'> <textarea id='taLabel' style='height:100%;background-color:white;border:1px solid grey;'>Label</textarea> </label> </BODY> </HTML>

  • What are alternatives to Win32 PulseEvent() function?

    - by Bill
The documentation for the Win32 API PulseEvent() function (kernel32.dll) states that this function is “… unreliable and should not be used by new applications. Instead, use condition variables”. However, condition variables cannot be used across process boundaries like (named) events can. I have a scenario that is cross-process, cross-runtime (native and managed code) in which a single producer occasionally has something interesting to make known to zero or more consumers. Right now, a well-known named event is used (and set to signaled state) by the producer using this PulseEvent function when it needs to make something known. Zero or more consumers wait on that event (WaitForSingleObject()) and perform an action in response. There is no need for two-way communication in my scenario, and the producer does not need to know if the event has any listeners, nor does it need to know if the event was successfully acted upon. On the other hand, I do not want any consumers to ever miss any events. In other words, the system needs to be perfectly reliable – but the producer does not need to know if that is the case or not. The scenario can be thought of as a “clock ticker” – i.e., the producer provides a semi-regular signal for zero or more consumers to count. And all consumers must have the correct count over any given period of time. No polling by consumers is allowed (performance reasons). The ticker is just a few milliseconds (20 or so, but not perfectly regular). Raymen Chen (The Old New Thing) has a blog post pointing out the “fundamentally flawed” nature of the PulseEvent() function, but I do not see an alternative for my scenario from Chen or the posted comments. Can anyone please suggest one? Please keep in mind that the IPC signal must cross process boundries on the machine, not simply threads. And the solution needs to have high performance in that consumers must be able to act within 10ms of each event.

  • how to reference drageventArgs in xaml as command parameter with silverlight

    - by Shaggy
Hi, on my silverlight 4 app I am trying to link up the drop event on a list box to my viewmodel. I am using expression blend 4's event trigger and invokecommandaction to hook up the drop event. Setting break points on my viewmodel, I can see the relevant function is fired when I drag a file onto the list box, however I cant seem to get access to the drageventArgs. I tried sending the entire listbox as a command parameter, and that doesn't work. Any ideas? Thanks

  • Jquery Tools: Scrollable - onBeforeSeek & onSeek toggle child div

    - by Rick
I'm scrolling some panels which contain some youtube clips using Jquery Tools Scrollable. I'd like to hide them during the transition to avoid a jerky animation. Markup: <div id="panel_items"> <div id="wrap"> <div class="event"> <div class="header">Event 1</div><!-- Header is always displayed --> <div class="youtube">youtube clips</div><!-- hide during transition, then show --> </div> <div class="event"> <div class="header">Event 2</div> <div class="youtube" style="display: none">More youtube clips</div> </div> </div> </div> Current JS: $("#panel_items").scrollable({ onBeforeSeek: function() { console.log("hide .child .youtube"); }, onSeek: function() { console.log("Show child .youtube"); } }); Bonus question: How can I automatically set the height of #panel_items to match the current panel height (.event)? Thank you.

  • How to handle custom Java exception in Flex app.

    - by mico
Hello, we are using BlazeDS as a proxy between Flex and Java. The approach is the same as in (http://www.flexpasta.com/index.php/2008/05/16/exception-handling-with-blazeds-and-flex/) Java exception declaration: public class FlexException extends RuntimeException { private String name = 'John'; public FlexException(String message) { super(message); } public String getName() { return name; } } Then, we are throwing it: public void testMethod(String str) throws Exception { throw new FlexException("Custom exception"); } Flex part: private function faultHandler(event:FaultEvent):void { var errorMessage:ErrorMessage = event.message as ErrorMessage; trace("error++"); } and remote object is instantiated here: <mx:RemoteObject id="mySample" destination="mySample" channelSet="{cs1}" fault="faultHandler(event)" /> But in event.fault I get "Server.Processing" and event.faultString equals "There was an unhandled failure on the server. Custom exception" How can I receive the data is specified in exception props ? BlazeDS log is similar to the log that was mentioned in the comment [BlazeDS] 11:28:13.906 [DEBUG] Serializing AMF/HTTP response Version: 3 (Message #0 targetURI=/2/onStatus, responseUR|-) (Typed Object #0 ‘flex.messaging.messages.ErrorMessage’) headers = (Object #1) rootCause = null body = null correlationId = “2F1126D7-5658-BE40-E27C-7B43F3C5DCDD” faultDetail = null faultString = “Login required before authorization can proceed.” clientId = “C4F0E77C-3208-ECDD-1497-B8D070884830? timeToLive = 0.0 destination = “books” timestamp = 1.204658893906E12 extendedData = null faultCode = “Client.Authentication” messageId = “C4F0E77C-321E-6FCE-E17D-D9F1C16600A8? So the quesion is why rootClause is null? How can I get that Exception object not just a string 'Custom exception'?

  • Catching MediaPlayer Exceptions from WPF MediaElement Control

    - by ScottCate
I'm playing video in a MediaElement in WPF. It's working 1000's of times, over and over again. Once in a blue moon (like once a week), I get a windows exception (you know the dialog Dr. Watson Crash??) that happens. The MediaElment doesn't expose an error, it just crashes and sits there with an ugly Crash report on the screen. If you "view this report" you can see it is in fact MediaPlayer that has crashed. I know I can disable the crash reports from popping up - but I'm more interested in finding out what's going wrong. I'm not sure how to capture the results of the Dr. Watson capture, but I have the dialog open now if someone has advice on a better way to capture. Here is the opening line of data, that points to my application, then to wmvdecod.dll AppName: ScottApp.exe AppVer: 2.2009.2291.805 AppStamp:4a36c812 ModName: wmvdecod.dll ModVer: 11.0.5721.5145 ModStamp:453711a3 fDebug: 0 Offset: 000cbc88 And from the Win Event Log. • detachEvent not working with named inline functions

    - by Polshgiant
I ran into a problem in IE8 today (Note that I only need to support IE) that I can't seem to explain: detachEvent wouldn't work when using a named anonymous function handler. document.getElementById('iframeid').attachEvent("onreadystatechange", function onIframeReadyStateChange() { if (event.srcElement.readyState != "complete") { return; } event.srcElement.detachEvent("onreadystatechange", onIframeReadyStateChange); // code here was running every time my iframe's readyState // changed to "complete" instead of only the first time }); I eventually figured out that changing onIframeReadyStateChange to use arguments.callee (which I normally avoid) instead solved the issue: document.getElementById('iframeid').attachEvent("onreadystatechange", function () { if (event.srcElement.readyState != "complete") { return; } event.srcElement.detachEvent("onreadystatechange", arguments.callee); // code here now runs only once no matter how many times the // iframe's readyState changes to "complete" }); What gives?! Shouldn't the first snippet work fine?
