• Custom layout in Android: scrollable graphic with selectable elements over top

  Hi, I'm fairly new to the Android platform and was wondering if I could get some advice for my current head scratcher: I'm making an app which in one view will need an image, which can be scrolled on one axis, with a load of selectable points over the top of it. Each point needs to be positionable on the x and y (unlikely to change once the app is running, but I'll need to fine tune the positions whilst I'm developing it). I'd like to be able to let the user select each point and have a graphic drawn on the point the user has selected or just draw a graphic on one/more points without user intervention. I though for the selectable points I could extend the checkbox with a custom image for the selected state - does that sounds right, or is there a better way of doing this? Is there any thing I can read up on doing this, I can't seem to find anything on the net about replacing the default images? I was going to use the absolute layout, but see that it's been depreciated and I can't find anything to replace it. Can anyone give me some code or advice on where to read up on what I need to do? • How to make a resolution independent camera preview on android?

  Hi all, I'm making an android 1.6 app that uses phone's camera. In order to do this app resolution independent, I need to set a compatible aspect ratio for previewing camera on a SurfaceLayout. In 1.6 sdk there is no way to get supported sizes for the camera preview. It is possible to use a 4:3 or 3:2 aspect ratio and get no errors whith that? On the other hand, I need a way to make a xml layout that represents this Surfacelayout in this (unknown) aspect ratio in every resolution. I assume that is not possible to change the SurfaceLayout size in runtime. Can I do it with "dp" units? The other way is making this layout programmatically? There are some apps like Vignette or android camera application with some tricks to make something like that, like black bars (vignette) or fixed buttons bar, but I don't know how to do it in any kind of resolution. Any ideas? Thanks!

  Hi, I have a drawing that looks more or less like the attached image. image The orange square is the currently selected selected sprite. What I want to do is the following. If I'm currently on the orange square and I use my keyboard direction buttons (up/down/left/right). I want to deselect the current sprite and select the next sprite in the appropriate direction. The problem I'm having is that I cannot get the x and y coordinates of the drawn sprites. If I look in the array, the x and y coordinates of the sprites are all 0. If I can retrieve that I can write an algorithm to determine the next sprite to select. Any help would be appreciated.

• Moving from dedicated to shared cpanel - any scripts to do all / some of the install tasks ?

  Hi, I have a few hundred phpld sites to move - each has its own cpanel, ( & the target may have shared cpanel) & I can do a full cpanel backup on the original server, but I don't have whm on the current host - the backups are fairly easy to organize but the installs so far means picking through files & setting up db's & mail etc by hand - I am thinking there ought to be an easier ie scripted way to do the installs or at least some parts - can anyone please suggest something ? I would like to migrate the stats at the same time Thanks M

• WPF: how to make normal listbox left-drag-select behavior use middle mouse instead?

  I'm building a special listbox control that our designers want customized in some tweaky ways. One thing they want to see is that the middle button-drag does what the left button-drag normally does (we are repurposing left-drag to other things). So it needs the two key features that left-drag does in a ListBox default implementation: While holding down the button and dragging, the selection starts where I click down and extends to where I drag. While dragging outside the listbox region, it scrolls if there is scrollable space in that direction. Before I go an duplicate this functionality by hand, is there any easy way to fool ListBox into thinking it's getting left-mouse drag events but instead is getting middle-mouse?

  Hi, Sorry if this question has already been answered, and sorry if it's too subjective to make sense, or for StackOverflow. I'm delivering a site to a client and I want to send them high-quality HTML/CSS/JS, fully validated, accessible etc. So I'm compiling a list of things to check, and useful tools for doing so, before I hand the code over. Here's a partial list, but what am I missing? Link checking for any broken links I might have missed - W3C link checker HTML validation for accessibility and broken-ness - W3C HTML validator CSS validation - W3C CSS validator Check for slow-loading page elements - Firebug and YSlow plugin What's missing - if you were a client, what else would you want to be sure has been checked? I'm wondering about the etiquette of things like comments, indentation, and minification; is it good practice to sort out all these? And what else have I missed? Thanks :)

But when you want to pass a function as a parameter you have to know all of its parameters before hand.   Hi, Html entities must be encoded in alt attribute of an image in HTML page. So <img id="formula" alt="A &rarr; B" src="formula.png" /> will work well. On the other hand, the same JavaScript code will not work document.getElementById('formula').alt = 'A &rarr; B'; and will produce A &rarr; B instead of A → B. How to do it through JavaScript, when it is not possible to put the special (unencoded) characters in the source code?

• What is the role of asserts in C++ programs that have unit tests?

  Greetings, I've been adding unit tests to some legacy C++ code, and I've run into many scenarios where an assert inside a function will get tripped during a unit test run. A common idiom that I've run across is functions that take pointer arguments and immediately assert if the argument is NULL. I could easily get around this by disabling asserts when I'm unit testing. But I'm starting to wonder if unit tests are supposed to alleviate the need for runtime asserts. Is this a correct assessment? Are unit tests supposed to replace runtime asserts by happening sooner in the pipeline (ie: the error is caught in a failing test instead of when the program is running). On the other hand, I don't like adding soft fails to code (eg: if(param == NULL) return false;). A runtime assert at least makes it easier to debug a problem in case a unit test missed a bug. I tried using functions to call another page like request dispatcher(), redirect() calling myhtml.js page directly after myservlet process the query results. But i get the result like this google.visualization.Query.setResponse......... /Tiger'},{v:80.0}, {v:false}]}]}}); and the entire myhtml.js code page below it on the browsers that to without the chart been draw. • What should I do or learn to better prepare myself for a co-op position?

  I'm currently taking computer systems in a technical institute and I will start looking for a coop job by next September. Since summer vacation is only a few weeks away, I was wondering what I should learn or do to help me land a job and do well in it. I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of most of my classmates since I got around 1.5 years "head start." For now, I'm planning to learn how to use source control (git - for no reason really) and was actually thinking of learning Scheme through SICP and maybe build something nice with it at the end. On the other hand, I'm wondering if it's better to expand on what I know right now and I'm thinking of C++ since I enjoy it a lot more than others like Java. Can I get advice on this? thanks!

The while(c =* ++argv[0]) part being where the warning persists. The code works fine, but what does this warning mean opposed to what is used? I think the code is c = *++argv[0], using the pointer. So why does the single = work and what is really recommended to be used?

  Just diving into pylons here, and am trying to get my head around the basics of SQLALchemy. I have figured out how to load a record by id: user_q = session.query(model.User) user = user_q.get(user_id) But how do I query by a specific field (i.e. username)? I assume there is a quick way to do it with the model rather than hand-building the query. I think it has something with the add_column() function on the query object, but I can't quite figure out how to use it. • Combining XSLT transforms

  Is there a way to combine two XSLT documents into a single XSLT document that does the same as transforming using the original two in sequence? i.e. Combining XSLTA and XSLTB into XSLTC such that XSLTB( XSLTA( xml )) == XSLTC( xml )? There's three reasons I'd like to be able to do this: Simplifies development; some operations need sequential transforms, and although I can generate a combined one by hand, it's a lot more difficult to maintain that two much simpler, separate transforms. Speed; one transform is in most cases hopefully faster than two. I'm currently working on a program that literally just transforms a data file in XML into an XHTML page capable of editing it using one XSLT, and a second XSLT that transforms the XHTML page back into the data file when it's saved. One test I hope to be able to do is to combine the two, and easily confirm that the 'combined' XSLT should leave the data unchanged.

• OS X Terminal: Meta key + alt functionality at the same time

  Is there a way to use "alt/option" key as a meta key but still be able to use the key to make some characters which need it? For example in my local keyboard layout: @ is alt-2 \ is alt-shift-7 | is alt-7 etc. So if I set alt as meta key, I can't make those characters. On the other hand using "press esc, release esc, press a key" to make meta key sequences makes my hands hurt. Any emacs users with international keyboards who have solved this, please give any tips you might have! :) edit: It appears that I can set alt as meta key and then add these kind of settings in inputrc: "\e2": "@" This works in bash shell but it still won't work with emacs though, so no good.

• Testing HTTPS files with MAMP

  I am running MAMP locally on my laptop, and I like to test as much as I can locally. Unfortunately, since I work on e-commerce stuff (PHP), I normally force ssl in most of the checkout forms and it just fails on my laptop. Is there any easy configuration that I might be missing to allow "https" to run under MAMP? Please note, I know that I could configure Apache by hand, re-compile PHP, etc. but I'm just wondering if there's an easier way for a lazy programmer. Thanks

I'm looking for something that will pull a daily entry from a list/database of my creation. I apologize if my question is not detailed enough. Still a newbie with WordPress. PART 2: Thanks for your prompt and on-point responses. With your responses and some additional research, I'm able to fine-tune my question. What I wish to accomplish is something similar to Amazon's Deal of the Day widget. Except, in my case, it will simply be a title and a corresponding link. My presumption is that I will set up a database and (using php or something similar) have the information drawn from the database and displayed in my WP sidebar. • Drop into read-eval-print loop from PHP code?

  Is there a way to drop into a read-eval-print loop from inside PHP code during execution, in a script that was run from the command line? That is, like php -a or phpsh? Or do I have to re-implement a REPL from scratch? I can't find any way to do it. To clarify: the reason why I need to do this is that I want to automatically include all the files in my project once the REPL starts, instead of having to manually include everything by hand.

• How to prevent an automerge using git?

  I am trying to merge a local branch into the master branch without having Git to do an automerge. I would like to “hand pick” what I would like to be merged into master. When I use Git’s difftool command, I am able to diff and select what I want to be added into the master branch. But then when I do a merge, I will lose what I selected prior because Git will do an automerge. I can commit the changes into master prior to the merge, but doing so seems unnatural. And Git’s mergetool is only available when there are conflicts from a merge. But if Git does an automerge then usually there aren’t conflicts, so I am unable to run the mergetool command.

• asp.net drop down list viewstate issue after client side Ajax update

  In my aspx page I have drop down list that initialy in page load event loads up with list of values which is shown to client(drop down list "A") and in client side, depending on client selecion of another drop down list(drop down list "B") I have written a javascript to update drop down list "A" with corresponding values with Ajax behaviour(without full page postback). But when we post page to the server, in server side page load event shows initialy sent list of values for drop down list "A" but not the values that were loaded by Ajax calls due to ViewState not being updated correctly due to Ajax call. I could fix this easily with update panel but it increased Ajax request size to 44KB which is much higher than what currently is for hand made Ajax script I have written( 0.5KB) Is there special way of fixing this rather than using update panel?

• Nuget and Source Control Files to Exclude?

  I know I should be using nuget more but at this point I don't completely understand the nuances so I still tend to either get source and build the project, then reference the project, or I create my own "dlls" folder and hand copy the dll's in. As part of my learning process, I'm trying to understand what is critical and what is not when using nuget. For example, I've done install-package restsharp and now when I check into source control, I get files like "packages/RestSharp.103.4/lib/net4/RestSharp.xml". I'm assuming that nuget will help me with upgrading and such and it needs to have certain meta data type files. My question is: Should I be ignoring any or all files in the "packages" directory? If so, what and why. Thanks

• Malware on a client's website - Ideas?

  We recently got a call from one of our clients, complaining that their site has some "strange looking code" at the bottom of the page. We checked out the source code, and discovered that about 800 bytes of malicious javascript code had been appended to the templates/master file, after the </html> tag. I won't post said code because it looked particularly nasty. As far as I can tell, there would be no way for this file to be edited in any way, unless someone had direct access to the server and/or FTP login details. The actual file itself has been modified, so that rules out any kind of SQL attack. Besides a person physically gaining credentials and hand-modifying this file, would there be any other logical explaination for what happened? Has anyone else had experience with something like this happening?
