• One bigger Virtual Machine distributed across many OpenStack nodes [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: Can a virtualized machine have the CPU and RAM resources of multiple underlying physical machines? 2 answers I just setup virtual machines on one hardware with Vagrant. I want to use a Puppet to configure them and next try to setup OpenStack. I am not sure If I am understanding how this should look at the end. • What desktop chipsets support AMD's Rapid Virtualization Indexing?

  Rapid Virtualization Indexing (RVI) is a hardware virtualization feature that can potentially give significant performance improvement. Intel's equivalent is Extended Page Tables. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapid_Virtualization_Indexing for more details. My question is: Does RVI require motherboard or chipset support? If yes, what desktop chipsets support it? I've ordered a Phenom II CPU (which supports RVI) but I haven't bought the motherboard. I'll install XenServer or VMware ESXi (which both support RVI) on the new computer.

• Qmail/Plesk email help

  Hay Guys. I'm using plesk with Qmail as an outgoing server. I've never used my plesk setup before to send emails. I usually use my ISP. I'm having a little trouble settng this up. I've created a simple email account, [email protected]. All is well, i setup my POP account in my mail client (apple mail) and i can receive mail. However i can't send any. These are the details im using smtp.mycrazydomain.com standard auth (i've tried SSL and non SSL) username: [email protected] password: mypassword However nothing has happened. Anyone got any ideas?

• Upgrade the Graphics Card for a Dell Dimension 3100

  Hi, I have a Dell Dimension 3100 Desktop with a 128MB Graphics Card Integrated into the Mother Board. I need to upgrade this 128MB to at least 256MB or 512MB if the system will support same. I am told by Dell that all I have is a PCIx1 slot and that they do not stock a Graphics Card for this. I was told to shop around at Amazon and ebay etc and I would find one there. I have shopped around for some time now and do not know exactly what I am looking for. There are several PCI Graphics Card out there but which one would be the correct one for a Dell Dimension 3100.   I'm looking for a good performance monitoring service for websites. I know about some of the available general monitoring services that check for uptime and notify you about unavailable services. But I'm specifically looking for a service with an emphasis on performance. I.e., I would like to see reports with detailed performance statistics from multiple locations world-wide, with a break-down on how long it took to fetch the different website resources, including third-party scripts such as Google Analytics and so on (the report should contain similar details such as the FireBug Net tab). Are there any such services and if so, which one is the best?

• "custom" routers for VPN - useful or waste of money?

  I use VPN in China and my current service contract expires soon so I was checking what sort of plans are out there now. I found that Witopia offers a "Cloak Box", what appears to be a Linksys wireless router with allegedly hacked/custom firmware to support VPN. Aside from allowing multiple computers to share one VPN connection, is there anything else at work here to justify that price when most new routers are $100 or less these days? Or is this something targeted towards the cd-rom cupholder crowd? And yes, I've contacted them, but haven't heard back yet... EDIT I've heard back from the company - here are the details if anyone else is interested: the router is a Linksys WRT54GL running TomatoVPN custom firmware the hardware waranty is one (1) year, from Linksys/Cisco the VPN is hard-set, so any device connected to the router MUST use the VPN (Witopia blocks torrents) I've decided it's not for me, but hopefully this information will prove useful to others.

  I am getting the next error while trying to commit a new directory addition. svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: Server sent unexpected return value (405 Method Not Allowed) in response to MKCOL request for '.... I have never seen this error before. Can someone help me? Solution I managed to solve the problem: Delete the parent's directory of the folder giving the problem. Did SVN Update A folder with the same name as the new one already existed in repository. Delete this folder SVN Commit Copy the new folder, Schedule for addition and SVN Commit

• How do I setup a sip account with pennytel in empathy or ekiga in ubuntu 10.04?

  Hi, I am trying to get my PennyTel VOIP account working in ubuntu 10.04. I know ubuntu use to use ekiga for sip calls. I also know that ubuntu now uses empathy for sip calls. However I can't get either program to work with my VOIP provider. In empathy I have no idea what details to enter. How does it know I want to use pennytel? What is my user name? I tired [email protected] but it did not work. In Ekiga I can't figure out how to use a sip provider. It looks like I can only use the Ekiga sip provider, which I don't want to use because I already have a PennyTel account. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Glen.

• Shopping for Fast USB Flash Drives

  I would like to pick up some really fast USB flash drives in the 16 - 64 GB range. When looking at drives they just list their size, their form factor (key chain hook, slider, etc.) and the fact that they are all Hi-Speed USB 2.0. It seems like I have heard that different drives have different performance and life expectancy. The sales guy tells me that they are all the same performance any more, but it wouldn't be the first time a sales guy had the wrong technical details. Our objective is to run Virtual PC images off of them, so good speed and resilience to rewrites it important.

• OSX Time Machine: deletion of backup folders

  I saw this question and was hoping that someone could expand upon the chosen answer (which I understood): Can you sudo mv Time Machine backup files as sudo from the trash to their original locations? I have tried doing this as root to no avail (operation not permitted). If not, can you successfully rm them via the trash via the terminal, faster than what the endless 'preparing to empty the trash' dialog suggests, and If you get the files back out of the trash can you tell if they are intact via disk utility (and how) Can you force indexing on a Time Machine drive in the same way that you would a normal drive to rebuild the TM index? I realize that a single answer could clarify all of the above, but I wanted to include details to be clear on what I am asking. Thanks for any help.

• Office for Mac 2008 suspicious behaviour

  Office for Mac 2008 just asked me whether I wanted to update. However, on continuing with the update, a Window popped up saying that I needed to close Chrome before the update could continue. I find this rather suspicious, since Office should not need to go anywhere near Chrome. Any idea why there might be a legitimate reason for this, or alternatively, just what is Microsoft trying to sneak on to my computer? EDIT: I did look at the download details on Microsoft's website, but aside from the general guff about closing all open applications, it doesn't mention anything about Chrome or any browser plugins.

  I doubt that anyone even remembers Site Server 3 - most of those that had any contact with it will have spent the last decade trying to forget. But, on the off-chance that someone out there does remember it, perhaps you also remember what can be done to un-blacklist a user who has been blacklisted as a result of supplying incorrect login details 3 times? I have a user that's been blacklisted that I really really need to recover, and yet I can find no way to do this. (I'm not even able to figure out where the blacklist is stored - I'd be quite prepared to nuke it if that's what it takes).

• Server 2003 - Default installation of SharePoint throws javascript error 'undefined' is null or not an object

  I have been handed a server that has a fresh installation of small business server 2003. SharePoint has been installed, and it is a completely fresh copy (no changes made) I know for a fact that everything was paid for so this isn't some dodgy copy. When I try to click any option in any of the floating menu's in IE 8, the browser asks me if I want to debug .. Error: 'undefined' is null or not an object for example, I got to Projects - and click on the sample project, then click delete on the floating menu that pops up and the error appears. This is brand new, I cannot believe I am having this problem! Has anyone come across this, is it an old problem with easy fix? All windows updates installed - see no updates for sharepoint? • Notepad Automatically Launches Upon Boot Up of my Windows 7 64-Bit Desktop PC

  Around 12 months ago, When my Windows 7 PC boots up, Notepad started to appear automatically on the desktop (as a duplicate ie one on top of the other), both displaying the same writing inside, and the name of the Notepad was: desktop-Notepad. [.ShellClassInfo] LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21787 I cant remember the exact details as its been so long now but a friend told me, this was due to a "hidden attribute" belonging to notepad becoming "unhidden"and therefore showing itself on the desktop at startup. He showed me a series of steps to either hide the attribute again or to delete it ( telling me that upon restart of my computer it would be recreated/regenerated.) I did indeed follow his guidance however after trying to hide it or delete it (it was never recreated after restart which supposedly it should have done) One notepad still is autolaunched with the text as shown above everytime I startup my PC. As I found this forum I thought I might try again for a solution to prevent notepad from launching. Thankyou

• Adding FK Index to existing table in Merge Replication Topology

  I have a table that has grown quite large that we are replicating to about 120 subscribers.   Received a message from Google Webmaster Tools: Over the last 24 hours, Googlebot encountered 2 errors while attempting to retrieve DNS information for your site. The overall error rate for DNS queries for your site is 40.0%. You can see more details about these errors in Webmaster Tools. Recommended action Contacted HostPapa and they deny that there is any issue with the site / server!!! Support in terms of what I can do to actually resolve this issue is non-existent!!!! The site is currently online. And I don't know much about DNS... so any advice about what I can do to resolve this problem would be much appreciated.

• Installing VMware ESXi 4.0 on Dell 1950: Cannot open vmkboot.gz

  I am trying to install VMware ESXi 4.0.0 U1 on a Dell 1950 server via a bootable CD-ROM. I keep getting this error right at the start: Cannot open vmkboot.gz I checked that the CD-ROM drive is not to blame by installing Debian Etch using that drive. I tried several different versions of ESXi (3.5, 3.5 Dell edition, 4.0 Dell edition) and they all give me an error at the same place. I also tried installing from a USB "thumb" drive but got the same error. I checked with the VMware HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) and the Dell 1950 is listed as being compatible. Here are some server details: Two 1.6 GHz Xeon 5110 CPUs (ID: 06-0F-B) BIOS version 2.2.6 Any ideas on what might be the issue?

• How to convert eps file to a large jpeg image

  Hello, I am using Linux. I want to convert an eps file to jpeg file. I find that I can use "convert" command. However, the resulting image looks very small. I want to enlarge the jpeg file by -resize option. It seems not to work. The resulting image is a pure black one. Do anyone has the same problem? Here are more details: 1: if I use convert -scale 1000x1000 your.eps your.jpg the resulting image looks like a low quality image. The eps vector image is not scaled properly. 2: if I use convert -geometry 300% your.eps your.jpg I get a pure black image.   I'm looking for a backup media manager that will keep me up-to-date on where my backups are, how they're stored and what's stored on them. I want it to be able to do and keep track of the following: my used backup media (e.g. DVD1, DVD2) my backed-up assets in high-level (such as "family-photos from 2003", "laptop drivers") details of the assets ("Ninas Birthday 2003") where the backup media is currently stored when the media has been burned (to re-burn in case of media degeneration). It should be possible to navigate back and forth between media and assets. I also thought about marking assets as "deprecated". If all assets on a media are deprecated, the program should tell me so I don't have to keep it any more. Does anyone know of a program with this feature-set? Or will I have to start my own reference in something like Access?

• Jenkins shows same information for all projects

  I've been using Jenkins for the last month or so and what started out as a small issue has gotten worse and worse. I have 10 projects in Jenkins, all polling from different Git repos and building to different environments but they all show the same details on the dashboard. • Recommended RAM and disc space for Oracle 11g on Windows

  I need to provide the recommended amount of RAM and disc space (divided in two partitions) so the customer can create an appropriate virtual machine to run Oracle. All I could find in the documentation was a brief listing with minimum RAM and typical/advanced install types. The virtual machine will run latest Oracle Standard Edition One (11g release 2 so far) under Windows Server 2008 x64 and will host a reasonably low traffic web application. How much RAM and disc must I ask for in order to be safe? (Feel free to ask for further details if I've omitted something relevant.) Update: Rough estimations: Database size: 10 MB after installation Growth rate: +3MB per day on average Size of database 'active' data: (not sure of what this means, there's not actual archive so I guess all data is current) Amount of data written per second in peak hours: a few KB Number of client sessions: 3 or 4 at most Frequency and response size of most heavy requests: some reports make heavy table JOINS that need up to 20 seconds to complete but they won't return more than a few thousand rows with plain text. The app also handles BLOBs (typical size from 50KB to 200KB)

• IIS- defining a website as a dev site

  I am new to IIS. Is there a way during the setup of IIS to have a variable of some sort set that I can use to tell my site that this is the development copy? I am using PHP via IIS 7.5 and would like to have a file with a few lines that define which databases etc is used by my application. Is this the purpose of web.config? I would love there to be a place in the setup of the website where I can set a few variables that are accessibly by my application. That way, when I migrate files to live, I don't need to worry about access details to databases etc.

• How do I get my server to recognise a change in users?

  I'm new in post running a small charity. As a result I've inherited a system from the previous manager that was poorly run. In my enthusiasm to change login details etc. I appear to have killed my microsoft outlook account. When trying to access outlook it prompts me for my user name, domain name and password - which I'm obviously not filling in correctly because it's not accepting my answers. Is there a way to determine that information from the server side? I have access to the server and the staff computers.
